I'm starting CD on Tues. My main worry is how my body will adapt after being on a vlcd? Anyone due to start soon or have any experience of maintaining their weight loss on CD

hmm. If you prepare then the tiredness and headacheyness should be mild. By prepare I mean cut down on carbs and general food intake in the week before you start. Also increase your water. Most symptoms can be taken away with a good drink of water.
As for the other stuff, its 2 1/2 months to xmas. You could feasibly lose at least 1 1/2 stone between now and then, possibly more. You could be working through the plans from say mid november to enjoy your festive foods. Esp if I was your CDC Then you caould go back to the serious weight loss after xmas depending on how much you have to lose.
YOU have to want to lose the weight. The decision and the determination has to come from you and you alone. Good luck. If you want any more info then feel free to CAT me or add me to your MSN sewing mad [email protected] (keep lines remove spaces)

Thanks SMM. I think I'm expecting it to be hard next week. In some ways SS is simple as there's no option to eat but with aam the temptation is there to eat a little bit more. I really don't want to ruin it after sticking to it for the past 4 weeks.
Whoops imo you have to be in the right place mentally to stick to this diet. There'll always be reasons not to do it (or any other diet for that matter). I speak from experience being a serial diet starter! My counsellor told me that people react very differently to the first few days. Some have virtually no side effects while others feel headachey etc. It wasn't as bad for me as I expected tbh and it soon passes and you feel great. You've got nothing to lose by trying it except the pounds of course! Good luck whatever you decide

Hattie, see it for what it is, a lesson in self control and portion control! You can get through it!

hattiejacques · 01/10/2007 18:38

I'll try my best. Thanks and good luck with becoming a cdc - you'll make a great one.

hi all

i just got back from my weigh in and i lost 12 lbs! really chuffed and my cdc said because i went into ketosis early on (lunchtime on day 2) that i could try a bar. so tonight i had a chocolate bar and i loved it! never thought i could get so excited about 127 kcal of malty chocolateyness...stocked up on all the essentials and looking forward to see what week 2 brings.

spooky - i was really worried about the passage into ketosis would be for me. in reality it was fine. i steered clear of carbs in the run up to starting the diet, had a slight headache on the morning of day 2 (although I did have a nightmare day at work which can't have helped) and by the end of the day i was in the pink (meaning i was in ketosis). i do slightly miss the social aspect of eating but losing 12 lbs in the first week is the best kick start to a diet I have ever had.

has anyone else weighed in today?

2littlins · 02/10/2007 12:21

WEll done MM you must be thrilled, thats a big loss for week one imagine what you could loss by the end of week 4!!

I finally meet with my councillor today who was really nice and didn't make me go on her waiting list since I had already started.

I tried a bar today and I'm not that fussed but love having soup now its turned cold and tried a chocolate tetra YUM!!!
So getting on well here this week.

Have been told about the weight gain of fluid should you eat carbs not on the plan and has put me off doing any nibbling thats for sure.

Also mentioned that the vanilla shakes with a teaspoon of coffee in are yummy if you are a coffee lover...theres a tip for you all.

Well looking forward to a tetra ice cream tonight and will be back soon, keep up the good work!
x

hattiejacques · 02/10/2007 14:21

Well done MM!! 12 lbs is fantastic!! I like the chocolate bars and also the malt toffee ones. Yum! I weighed in today and have lost another 4 lbs bringing my total to 21 lbs in 4 weeks. And I've got a meal(or should I say a nibble) to look forward to tonight. I'm going to have tuna and cottage cheese mixed with salad. Am determined to stick to it because my cdc told me that some people remain the same on aam week so definitely don't want to blow it and risk a gain.

whoops · 03/10/2007 11:09

Well done Spooky
Shame you aren't near me you could have been my counsellor! I had another chat with dh this morning and he is worried that I'll lose the weight and then put it straight back on again! I have tried telling him once I've shifted it I Will be trying my hardest not to put it back on!

SpookyMadMummy · 03/10/2007 13:09

Keep trying Whoops! You can grind him down!

whoops · 03/10/2007 13:24

I have done! I am still going to see the counsellor next week! and prob start it on the Sunday or Monday of the following week!

hattiejacques · 03/10/2007 14:30

I empathise with you whoops. My hubby was equally and understandbly (can't spell sorry) sceptical about my latest weight loss attempts after my numerous failures and daily resolutions to lose weight. Can't blame him really. Since starting CD however he's been really supportive and sweet about it all.

OP posts:
hattiejacques · 03/10/2007 14:31

Good luck with it btw!!

whoops · 03/10/2007 14:32

Thanks!
I'm sure you'll be hearing more from me
dh is supportive I think he is worried about me a wasting money and b) getting upset about putting weight back on after losing it

MatildasMummy · 03/10/2007 15:00

well done smm on becoming a CDC. you must be so pleased, having the chance to help other people who need help to lose weight this way.
my family are starting to get very interested in my weight loss - think it has become an element of fascination. i feel like i'm in the royal family with that bit when cheryl comes in and says she's lost half a stone. they are all really supportive(my family not the royales!), especially my Mum who says she's really proud of me. That's only 12 lbs in - still a long way to go.

peanut bar today - quite tasty!

2littlins · 03/10/2007 15:59

Hi Whoops, my hubby didn't say a thing about it other than how much does it cost.He then turned around on day 10 and said I can't believe you haven't eaten for over a week.I think when the weight starts coming off its really exciting and makes you naturally feel happier.Hubby is now enjoying a happier me and is actually commenting on what a good way it is to shift unwanted weight and recommending it to his dad..
It definately highlights for me how much food I ate just because I wanted to.
Good luck and come back here often.I find it such a great support having people to chat to doing the same thing.Even if its just for reassurance to hang in there when its a tough day.Its like our very own support group! Plus I look forward to everyones weigh ins to see how they are getting on!!

MatildasMummy · 03/10/2007 16:45

when i said "like in the royal family" - i actually meant royale family.... long day today!

SpookyMadMummy · 03/10/2007 17:18

MatildasMummy I love that episode where she says shes lost half a stone.... and put 7 pounds back on!!

hattiejacques · 04/10/2007 20:55

Hi everyone just thought I'd post to say that I'm still with you all and somehow managing to stick to my aam menu. It's been quite strange for me because I really thought I'd be tempted to eat bigger portions and was worried if I started eating I'd be really hungry but I haven't been at all. The amounts are so small it's like a little snack or taste really. I have to confess to having a walkers crisp yesterday courtesy of ds2 and it was heaven!! I'm really enjoying all the compliments I've been getting on my weightloss and have bought some new tops this week to replace the smocky ones I've been hiding in. Hope you're all doing well. Keep it up and keep posting!!

Hi Hattie,
Great to hear you are doing well.I have started getting regular comments now but its more exciting how happy I feel getting into my nice clothes again.I have had a hard week this week, womens time and I usually scoff my face with chocolate so settled yesterday for an extra tetra figuring the calories in that are better than the calories in chocolate.Back to normal today, I think I have lost more this week than last week but saturdays weigh in will reveal all.Keep enjoying those nibbles, haven't decided if I am going to have the aam week yet.
x

2littlins · 06/10/2007 13:55

Hows everyone doing??
I weighed in thismorning and have lost another 7lbs. Obviously wasn't just me being greedy wanting to have something extra...thank goodness. That takes my grand total at the end of week 3 to 19.8lbs.

It has actually got a bit easier for me in the last couple of days.Happy to report that with the bio oil there doesn't seem to be anything yet that is going to fall where it shouldn't....not counting the obvious of ample chest from breastfeeding, not expecting miralces there .

Looking forward to hearing how you are all doing.
Have a great weekend!

hattiejacques · 06/10/2007 18:38

2littlins that's another great loss. Well done! You sound like you're really into it now. I'm so into it I can't imagine eating proper meals again although I'm sure it won't take me long to remember! Aam is going well. Just a bit bored with it and don't really feel hungry for it but have been doing what I should have been all the same. I'll be interested to see if I've lost anything this week. According to my scales I've stayed the same so far which feels a bit of a letdown even though I was told to expect it. Oh well at least it's boosting my metabolism. Good luck for the rest of the weekend
