Happy New Year! Here we are! Not just a brand new year but a brand new decade. New decades always feel that bit more significant and life enhancing.

I, like many others, would love to embrace the Twenty Twenties feeling more svelte, toned, healthier & happier. A massive part of that is underpinned by what we eat, when we eat it and why? In turn, how we feel mentally underpins our eating habits. Eating feelings, celebratory meals out, food rewards etc. By being balanced and mindful around food will help us all stay on track.

I know that if I don’t keep on it by setting goals, logging, calorie counting, utilising time restricted eating, and eating a mostly Mediterranean style diet I would gain month on month. Diet and weight loss isn’t a one size fits all. There are so many enjoyable options. Personally If I eat a carb heavy diet I hold not only extra weight but also carry water. My whole silhouette blobs out. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by walking & swimming.

I’m petite in statue, have an under active thyroid (medicated) and every bit of extra weight shows. Previously I allowed myself to get obese but since dropping 20+ lbs I’m no longer in that category. I’m still working on getting my BMI into the ‘normal’ category and this is one of my goals for 2020.

The previous threads have proved wonderfully supportive and inspiring The ladies on these threads have been awesome and shared some great achievements!

Anyone like to join me in 2020?

Morning all Smile.

I used to be your weight/height twin @wherehavealltheflowersgone then I lost 1.5 stone when I had an intolerance test done and stopped eating the foods that didn't agree with me.

I have a pile of stuff that I want eaten but it is as much for the fact I'm not allowed as per intolerances as sugar and then I can properly start. Though it has dawned on me I can bag it up and stick it in the cupboard so it's not there looking at me. We still have two panettone, two Christmas puddings and a small cake.

I weighed this morning and felt lighter but last time I felt that and was convinced I'd be down I was up Sad. I am down . 1.2lbs down. Hurray!

Have a good day everyone. I'm hoping to find the time to read what IF is as I'm still confused as to whether it is the eat only in eight hours plan or something else.

Dinner will be jacket potato and Mediterranean vegetables.

NorthernPowermouse · 02/01/2020 07:59

Morning all. I set my alarm early to do an exercise video this morning...but then failed to get up and do it. Part of the problem was that my toddler was in with me and she’d have woken up too and I’d have had to have sorted her out...but I was also just knackered and lazy tbh. Will try to go for a walk at lunchtime to make up for it, but it won’t be the same.

I’m doing cheese salad for lunch and chilli for tea today, hopefully without the rice (never been fussed on rice) and with avocado instead. Yum.

2020newme · 02/01/2020 08:09

Morning!!

Weighed in at 12:8:0 today so that's a great start, with over a pound lost.

I am on a training course next two days and have no idea if lunch is provided or not (probably is) so I will have to be quite careful.

My tummy is rumbling but I think once I get going I will forget about it until lunchtime or at least until elevenses Smile

cherrytree63 · 02/01/2020 08:25

Good morning everyone and thanks for the warm welcome @BustedDreams.
Yesterday I had a banana at 1pm.
OH and I had some chores/errands to do but he fell asleep which meant we didn't get started until late.
We needed to get tea bags and I was getting hangry Grin with all the food smells and getting anxious as it's this sort of situation where I make bad food choices.
But luckily I had half a bowl of my soup left so scoffed that as soon as I got in.
Followed by a mozzarella, tomato, beetroot and olive salad.
Then the last slice of the banana loaf that I'd made, then some Greek yoghurt and raspberries.
It's the most food I've had in one sitting for years!
Today will be boiled egg salad for brunch and salmon with veg for dinner.
Interested in seeing posts from people using MFP. That didn't work for me, IE if at the end of the day I had day 200 cals left I'd eat more even if I wasn't hungry.
Also there was too much variation in the nutritional values, IE 2 X beans on toast was different to toast + toast + beans if that makes sense?
The mindset around eating and body image is so powerful. No matter what size/ fitness level I'm at I still feel like the obese ginger child that I was with everyone taking the piss out of.
Sweet stuff was like the holy Grail (my parents grew up with rationing) and were the carrot on the stick to make us eat all our dinner.
It was years before I could allow myself a sweet without something savoury first, even if it was 2 bags of crisps Blush

DrDiva · 02/01/2020 08:31

Morning everyone! I wondered where you had all gone - busy looking at the last thread and thinking it was terribly quiet, then realised I had missed the link to a new thread! Doh. And here you all are, a day in and 117 posts already! 😊

I am kind of waiting until Monday to get really back on track. Still at home with DS until then (and he will have to come to work with me then). It’s been a holiday full of tummy bugs, horrible weather and of course the broken arm. Not the most restful! (Though I didn’t get the bug, which is fortunate)

I would like to lose 17lbs, though a round stone would suffice. 😁

dottydolly72 · 02/01/2020 08:48

Morning all, back on the scales this morning.. 9.13 so 2lb off already. I'm also doing dry January (god knows I need it). Feeling very motivated by it all. IF was tough yesterday.. out all day surrounded by street food stalls!! I caved and had a hot dog then felt terrible for doing so. Today I'm having fruit and fiber for breakfast to help fill me up the fasting until dinner time 7/8pm ish. See if that helps.

BustedDreams · 02/01/2020 08:50

Good Morning

@NorthernPowermouse I think I used the wrong term ‘close the day’ for mfp. But when you’ve finished logging for the day if you scroll down to the bottom of screen it calculates/estimates if you ate the same calories every day you’d weigh xxxx in 5 weeks. For example, If I’ve entered 1,000 calories it always states I’ll weigh 9st 13lbs in 5 weeks time. This is not proving accurate. Don’t forget your walk later. Grin

@SunshineCake have you tried kale chips. You can do them yourself. Kale, olive oil, salt in a hot oven for literally minutes. Heard they are nice & tasty. Congrats on your loss! 🌟🏅 In regards you IF you eat with in a certain time frame. So I for example usually eats between 12:30 - 18:00 In the am I have hot drinks/water only. For me it’s still important to stick within a calorie allowance. Does this explain what your asking or have I misunderstood.

@Karcheer let us know how your PT sesh goes.

@wherehavealltheflowersgone welcome. 1tbsp of pasta 😮 Did I read that right. Sounds a small amount. Your bolognaise sounds yummy. When I have brown rice I only have about 2 tbsp, heaped. They are carb/calorie heavy.

@Patchworksack welcome. Your plan sounds ok and well done on your 5k 🏅🌟

@FiveShelties bloody well done on swerving the choc etc 🏅 Once you get past several days without those foods it becomes much much easier and the cravings disappear. Enjoy your barbie.

@Foreverlexicon your days food sounded appetising. I admire your realism and pragmatic approach.

@fallfallfall well done on your step count!

@Weekday28 You're ahead already in relation to your weight last year/this year. Long term you’re making progress! That must feel like an achievement.

It inspiring to read so many of you are making positive change, following plans and beginning to feel better/lighter etc. It’s important to remember the road ahead will be bumpy and at times plans don’t go to plan. That’s life in general. There’s a saying that life isn’t about what happens to us, it’s about how we react.

Today’s menu is home made soup. Frittata and veg later. Apple, cheese, celery. White tea/water. Walk before lunch.

For those returning to work here’s hoping it goes smoothly for you.

Have a great day whatever you’re doing. (Apologies if I’ve missed anyone. It’s taken me a while to write this so will probably cross post)

Oh yes I forgot, @SunshineCake I love the idea of swapping ideas for substitutes - DS is slowly losing his dairy allergy but it’s still a matter of restricting how much he has, so I am always looking for good swap-outs.

I LOVE kale chips! Sadly they don’t love me - I get terrible trapped wind Blush

BustedDreams · 02/01/2020 09:07

@2020newme I find being prepared helps with munchies. Especially if out and about. I usually have nuts or small pieces of cheese and chopped veg (in little snack bags) in the fridge so I can grab and go. Failing that KIND bars are all natural and gluten free and very filling (200 cals ish) and can survive being in your handbag to grab instead of a Greggs Grin.

@cherrytree63 i understand what you’re saying about MFP. I only use the verified entries or input my own. I find that by pre inputting my meal plans in it keeps me on track. I’m a bit of a geek as well and love my logging/progress apps. Nothing like a downward trend to make you feel accomplished Grin Sorry to hear about your upbringing. I agree things like that stay with us and shape how we see ourselves and react to situations. BTW I adore red hair. It’s bloody gorgeous.

@DrDiva hello my friend I’m pleased you found your crew Grin. Hope your ds arm mends quickly!

@dottydolly72 well done you! 🌟. Inspiring and will motivate you into carrying on.

cherrytree63 · 02/01/2020 09:27

I wish I had red hair these days @Busted dreams.
Once I started going grey I found it impossible to keep up with my roots so these days I'm a bottle blonde.
I've.got a hospital appointment this morning followed by loads of errands while I'm in town so will need to find my willpower not to grab something from a cafe while I'm out and about.
My OH is driving me (my car's off the road and parking at the hospital in his truck would be impossible) and I know he'll get "hangry" while we're out.
I'm happy to announce that I've had my "swoosh" and I've lost 4lbs since Friday which is great for my motivation. It's the most I've ever lost in a week and I'm hoping for a steady loss of 1 or 2 lbs every week from now on.

NorthernPowermouse · 02/01/2020 09:59

@BustedDreams I see...I was able to do it yesterday even though I was about 150 cals short. Apparently I’ll be 11st 6 by early Feb...we’ll see! Won’t forget my walk, and will try to do it daily. I’m terrible for never taking a lunch break, hangover from a role I used to do where it was much more difficult to take one, but I’ll try to do better this year.

BustedDreams · 02/01/2020 10:17

@NorthernPowermouse do you mean you’ve logged 150 under your own allowance or 150 under 1000. If my logged cals are under 1000 it won’t predict.

@cherrytree63 a 4lb loss is fabulous! 🌟🏅.

Good Morning everyone, 😊

Anybody doing this years 30 days of yoga with Adrienne? It's called Home and starts properly today.

I'm planning on doing as much as my 9inch scar will allow each evening, I love how I feel after yoga and it's a good time to get back in the habit.

While having a look on YouTube last night I also found a walking workout (Lesley something) which I'm going to attempt to do each day and looks like it would be great for those with young kids to do together on a rainy day) and some videos by a group called we love dance which looks pretty Zumba-y. In a former life I was a fitness/Zumba instructor so I would love to get back into that.

I'm thinking of drawing up a timetable to include the above and some kettlebell stuff. Don't think I'm quite ready for the Insanity DVD's yet. 😂

Have a great day everyone.

BustedDreams · 02/01/2020 10:40

Good morning @WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa Thank you for inspiring me! I try to get on the mat every day even ifs it’s just a few poses. Going to look at this after lunch. Is it a paid subscription or free? I’d forgotten about your scar ... remind me again, was it your leg or tummy. I have a terrible memory.

Attached the Frittata recipe. Cals all worked out. It’s from Pinch of Nom recipe book.

@BustedDreams It's my leg, my calf to be specific, where they grafted the bone back together.

It's free! You can subscribe and get the calendar of workouts, otherwise just check in on you tube daily. 😊

SunshineCake · 02/01/2020 12:48

Yes, @BustedDreamsBusted that is what I mean. I'm having first meal of the day now so how many hours is the best time to eat in please ?

SunshineCake · 02/01/2020 12:49

Posted too soon.

I haven't made kale crisps but will definitely try making them, thank you.

Galvantula · 02/01/2020 13:26

Oops, I lost you all. Forgot it was a new month. Blush

Happy New Year to you all. 🎊

Starting 2020 at 59.1 kg/9st4 ish. Happy with that as I managed to moderate my festive excess a little but still enjoy it so didn't gain too much.

Just need to spread out the Christmas chocolate and treats over the next few weeks/months.

Away to read the thread now!

Galvantula · 02/01/2020 13:48

I'm sticking to MFP to keep me honest.

I was 82.1kg a few weeks after DC3 was born in 2015 and got down to 60kg within about a year (combination of MFP and bf!).

Since then I've gained and lost bouncing between 58 and 62kg. 🙈

After joining this happy thread I've been on a downward trend, enjoying the accountability and motivation and feeling healthier. 👍

My arbitrary target is the middle of the 'healthy BMI' band for my (short) height, so around 56kg.

SheepSocks · 02/01/2020 16:33

I'm blooming proud of myself, I went go the gym today and actually worked up a sweat. I did half an hour of exercise whilst I was there. I'm going back tonight for some yoga.

MaryBoBary · 02/01/2020 18:19

I managed to do the 30 day squat challenge, 30 day arm challenge and kept my calories to 1180. I won't be eating anything else today, just drinking plenty of water and maybe have a cup of tea. I'm feeling positive as it's not been too much of a struggle! According to MFP I've overeaten on csrbs but I'm just too hungry if I don't get the carbs in!

Can anyone help me with some meal ideas or point me to some websites? Ideally I'd like something that me, DP and DS4 can all eat as I don't want to be cooking separate meals in the evening.

Weekday28 · 02/01/2020 18:21

So my day was quite good. Missed breakfast as I was busy but had lunch and dinner was homemade curry. I've been having a glass of water inbetween each coffee I have and have done 11,000 steps.

Just need to keep busy and I find it easy! Sound like you have all had great days too

MrsJonesAndMe · 02/01/2020 18:30

@SunshineCake IF tends to be 16 hours fasting and 8 hours eating, but people can adapt to suit. I've managed 15 1/2 hours and then stopped eating after 8... hoping to get back on track with that now.

I feel relatively positive. Lots of water, my vits and about to do my yoga. I do Adrienne but not done a whole series. Will weigh over the weekend.

fallfallfall · 02/01/2020 18:37

Disappointed with my am weigh in.
I hate logging food with YAZIO, I need to change that up ASAP.
Need to add in a touch of cardio.

Karcheer · 02/01/2020 19:00

Up and down day so far.

Didn’t get to the PT but did jog for 41mins.
Skipped breakfast, had a massive salad with goats cheese and a matzo for lunch.
Have eaten 5 quality street :( might celotape up the tin :/
Going to have soup for dinner.
