Happy New Year! Here we are! Not just a brand new year but a brand new decade. New decades always feel that bit more significant and life enhancing.

I, like many others, would love to embrace the Twenty Twenties feeling more svelte, toned, healthier & happier. A massive part of that is underpinned by what we eat, when we eat it and why? In turn, how we feel mentally underpins our eating habits. Eating feelings, celebratory meals out, food rewards etc. By being balanced and mindful around food will help us all stay on track.

I know that if I don’t keep on it by setting goals, logging, calorie counting, utilising time restricted eating, and eating a mostly Mediterranean style diet I would gain month on month. Diet and weight loss isn’t a one size fits all. There are so many enjoyable options. Personally If I eat a carb heavy diet I hold not only extra weight but also carry water. My whole silhouette blobs out. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by walking & swimming.

I’m petite in statue, have an under active thyroid (medicated) and every bit of extra weight shows. Previously I allowed myself to get obese but since dropping 20+ lbs I’m no longer in that category. I’m still working on getting my BMI into the ‘normal’ category and this is one of my goals for 2020.

The previous threads have proved wonderfully supportive and inspiring The ladies on these threads have been awesome and shared some great achievements!

Anyone like to join me in 2020?

Add your name, personal goals, eating/exercise plan etc.

Together we can do it!

Forgot to ask, what do I need to do to stop the headaches? Horrible hospital doc said migraines but they are new and GP is re-referring me for a brain scan Just in case.

Mammawilson · 01/01/2020 17:05

Im in. I gave up smoking 2 years ago and have slowly crept up to obese, i have an underactive thyroid, am an emotional eater and work shifts. I need to lose 3 stone and am planning on actully exercising regularly this time alongside 16/8 fasting

ilovetrees30 · 01/01/2020 17:14

Well today has been an epic fail. Oops! Went to see family and had a dominos pizza. Ate far too many slices of pizza and I have just mindlessly ate the rest of one of my chocolate Christmas presents 😞. Going to take the dog for a walk in a bit and then go do a YouTube workout I think. I am struggling mentally at the moment with the new year and my period being an absolute nightmare this month which isn't helping the eating. Never thought I would say I could do with going back to work that way I an limited what I can eat as I only have what I take with me, there isn't a canteen or vending machines or anything.

MotherOfLittlePeople · 01/01/2020 17:46

How's every one getting on today?

I had a day off SW yesterday and was meant to have today of as well but thought I better start the year as I mean to go on. So I've managed so far back on plan. Must say though, I'd rather be on plan than off it.

2020newme · 01/01/2020 17:56

I walked for an hour on the beach which was really lovely.

I had a pack of Belvita cereal biscuits for lunch ( I know!)

I just had a four egg mushroom omelette with salad which was yummy.

Drinks have been tea, one coffee and a can of pepsi max, so a good day all round. No snacks. MFP won't let me close on that few calories but I feel full and happy.

@SunshineCake could you be peri menopausal? When I was I used to get hideous migraines. Never had them before or since.

ilovetrees I am also looking forward to getting back to work as I am going to make it my mission to walk in the park nearby every lunchtime unless it is raining - I absolutely do not do rain, not with my crazy curly hair. I may have to ask someone to hide the biscuit tiub though Grin

RunningNinja79 · 01/01/2020 18:01

Not had a too bad a day today considering Im not at work.

Didn't stick to my fast until 11AM, but I was out running so had a couple of cereal bars and a couple of fruit pastilles to keep me going. I did run 13.2 miles so I did need it for fuel.

Then came home and just as I was getting in the bath to warm up (Im always really cold after running) DH suggested going out for something to eat. This is very likely to be the only meal I will have today so back to the fast now.

Tomorrow I'm back at work so again back on it. Fasting till 11 and then mindful eating the best I can until 7PM

MaryBoBary · 01/01/2020 18:06

I'm joining! I'm 5ft 3, 12stone 1 and I'm turning 30 in March. I quit smoking last year, did the c25k and lost a stone and a half by June but then got lazy, and when I went back to work full time the diet went out of the window. I've put the stone and a half back on and am feeling quite rubbish about myself and my lack of self restraint! I've decided to get back on the diet, start running again and hopefully be feeling better about myself by my birthday. I'm glad I've found a thread to help keep me on track!

BustedDreams · 01/01/2020 18:33

@WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa cross posted. Nice to see you! Sounds like you’re doing great!

@SunshineCake I don’t know how to prevent the headaches. I’ve had them several years now. I’ve noticed when my diet is less carby/sugary they don’t feature as much. Plenty of water. Hope you ok.

@Mammawilson Welcome. I was you. I’ve lost 2 stones and just 1 stone to go (the hardest). Still trying to get meds right for my thyroid problem. Thyroid really does mess with metabolism. I’m hoping 2020 will see off the last stone. I did it, you can too!

@ilovetrees30 don’t be hard on yourself. It is difficult when seeing family and friends as those times are when we cave and eat what every one is. Add hormonal fluctuations into the mix, it’s not surprising your resolve was low. Don’t worry to much about it, dust yourself down and carry on. You’ll find a rhythm soon enough. Try to keep hydrated and each protein at each meal. Helps with satiety and balancing blood sugars.

@MotherOfLittlePeople Pleased to hear you’ve had a good day I’ve had a good day too. Ate to plan and the kitchen is clean & closed. Off for a bath in a mo, then an early night Grin. I’m visualising feeling great in the morning Knowing I ate well today.

@2020newme MFP limit is 1,000 calories. If I have a day lower than that mfp won’t conclude for the day. I’m envious of your beach walk. I had a wet road and muddy field walk .... doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. Pass me your biscuit tub, I’ll put it in my cupboard Grin

@RunningNinja79 you really are a Ninja ... 13 miles 😯. Well bloody done 🌟🏅

Some light reading for you How To Stick To Your Diet HTH Grin

Enjoy your evenings!

I’ve had a pretty good day; egg and asparagus for brunch and the turkey curry I made this morning for tea. Did have a (small) slice of Christmas cake for afters though which I hadn’t intended on doing... Still, came in under the calorie allowance on mfp. What do you mean when you say it won’t allow you to close the day?

SunshineCake · 01/01/2020 19:12

@2020newme I think I am as I've had hot flushes, erratic periods and anxiety but blood tests haven't 100% confirmed it. I also had two periods in December as well as two very late ones earlier in the year so I think so.

Thank you @BustedDreams. I will have to cut down on carbs and sugar. I need to look for alternatives for my intolerances. I've also thought it would be a good idea if we could start a swap list. If we really want something we know isn't the best then what would be the alternative that isn't going to cause any issues but sort the cravings. Terrible example but salted peanuts swapped for anchovies. All I could think of that is salty!

MotherOfLittlePeople · 01/01/2020 19:41

@BustedDreams yes I was thinking the same, already in my pjs ready to go up once the kids have gone to bed lol. I'm hoping I haven't ruined my weigh day with the cheese last night but time will tell x

cheninblanc · 01/01/2020 19:46

I've had a good day, did my 10,000 steps and ate well.
Sorry I don't know names yet.
Tmrw will be tough it's back to work and I've nothing in for lunch... That means a walk to greggs!

ilovetrees30 · 01/01/2020 20:15

@cheninblanc could you have the soup that greggs do? Its probably one of their better options.

@BustedDreams you are right. I took the dog for a walk this evening and I have just finished Joe Wicks' New Years Day workout from this morning and my head feels clearer already. Tomorrow is a new day 😊

MrsJonesAndMe · 01/01/2020 20:21

I closed the kitchen at 6. 8 1/2 hours of eating lots of the wrong thing, but at least not the whole day Blush Yoga done, lots of water consumed, vitamins taken and delicious & healthy tea.

I am hungry though! Blush Blush

Roll on tomorrow!

SunshineCake · 01/01/2020 20:27

I was hungry too, MrsJones and I waited twenty minutes was still hungry so I ate. Not beating myself up.

Karcheer · 01/01/2020 21:23

Evening all, I jogged for 40 mins this morning, had a smoothie for breakfast and green tea, had a pret Greek salad and a yoga bunny for lunch, one chocolate rice cake as a snack, tonight wasn’t great we were out shopping all day (so also did 9766 steps) so was a bit of a store cupboard thing, fresh pasta, tinned tuna, baby tomatoes and creme fraiche.

I’d love to loose off my boobs, but my stomach looks pregnant which is making me a bit sad as I’d like to be pregnant, so I want that gone first.

PT session at 8am tomorrow - wish me luck!

wherehavealltheflowersgone · 01/01/2020 21:54

Hello everyone can I join? I've just read the whole thread and feel inspired! I'm 42, peri menopausal, under active thyroid. I'm 5' 6" and weigh 14 stone Shock

I've tried SW (hated the anti - good - fats thing), 5:2 (too hungry to cope with my hectic life on fast days) LCHF / keto (messed my hormones up royally), and Team RH (didn't lose a thing).

So today I'be started a low G.I. / low sugar / low carb / low bad fats Mediterranean style diet. I'll log it all on MFP for the first few weeks to check I'm on the right track.

So today:
B: low fat Greek yoghurt with blueberries, almonds and linseed

L: Lidl low G.I. roll with bacon medallion, avocado, rocket, tomato and a drop of low fat mayo

Snack: clementine

Dinner: 1 tbsp wholewheat pasta with homemade bolognese made with extra lean mince and lots of veggies (courgette/ pepper / mushrooms), 1 tsp low fat cheese

Apparently that comes in at 1080 calories and I'm feeling full so hoping this will work

SheepSocks · 01/01/2020 22:01

@MaryBoBary you could be my long lost twin. Same height and weight!

Today I've managed 2 walks and managed to stay away from the chocolate. I know that I will hit sugar withdrawals in the next few days, but I'm determined to get through this.

MrsJonesAndMe · 01/01/2020 22:11

@SunshineCake I find that it's all the carbs/sugar and calms down after a few days. I have pushed through - off to bed shortly.

cheninblanc · 01/01/2020 22:17

I've closed my eating window. Roll on 12 noon!!

Patchworksack · 01/01/2020 22:44

Hi can I join? Starting the New Year feeling flabby - 10lb would put me back on track. I am doing dry January which should help - I think my meals are ok really, I just need to avoid the rubbish.
Today I had one slice of toast for breakfast, a big salad with chicken and falafel for lunch, sausage and mash for tea (not great but I had small serving of mash and double veggies) and I ran 5km.

FiveShelties · 02/01/2020 01:22

Well I managed 1 day without cheese, chocolates, dips, crackers or crisps - I had forgotten that was possible. Really hot here (NZ) 29C so chicken on the BBQ tonight with Couscous, very easy. I do have some plants to put in the garden but will wait until it cools down a little first. Have a lovely day everyone.

Foreverlexicon · 02/01/2020 05:41

I got a bit anxious and bingey around Christmas (stems back from previous ED) but now it’s over I feel much more relaxed about food.

I won’t be eating at weight loss calories for a few more days as I have tonnes left from NYE which isn’t particularly diet friendly (SO much cheese and crackers and an entire toffee roulade - I live alone!) I could throw it out, but I don’t want to 😁 plus I’m away at the weekend for my girlfriend’s birthday. But I’m going to eat it as meals rather than binge/graze on it. I won’t be getting much exercise either until Monday as super busy so it’s damage limitation until then really.

Meals for today
B - cereal bar and banana
L - leftover pasta and veg
D - cheese and crackers
Snacks will be grapes and toffee roulade!
So could be worse, could be better!

fallfallfall · 02/01/2020 06:27

Late as usual. Cold and busy day. Track is closed but squeaked in my 10,000 steps and 30 minutes of exercise.
I’m pleased with my food choices. No sugar today.
Made rice paper wraps for lunch, straight up matchstick veggies with mint and basil.

Weekday28 · 02/01/2020 07:18

Ok so my official start weight is exactly 11 stone. Which is 11lbs less than the start of last year however I have gained 4lbs over Christmas. Back on it today hopefully I'll drop a couple of lbs quickly.

B- fage yoghurt and blueberries and honey
L- egg salad
D- not sure yet
No snacks just coffee and water
