Happy New Year! Here we are! Not just a brand new year but a brand new decade. New decades always feel that bit more significant and life enhancing.

I, like many others, would love to embrace the Twenty Twenties feeling more svelte, toned, healthier & happier. A massive part of that is underpinned by what we eat, when we eat it and why? In turn, how we feel mentally underpins our eating habits. Eating feelings, celebratory meals out, food rewards etc. By being balanced and mindful around food will help us all stay on track.

I know that if I don’t keep on it by setting goals, logging, calorie counting, utilising time restricted eating, and eating a mostly Mediterranean style diet I would gain month on month. Diet and weight loss isn’t a one size fits all. There are so many enjoyable options. Personally If I eat a carb heavy diet I hold not only extra weight but also carry water. My whole silhouette blobs out. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by walking & swimming.

I’m petite in statue, have an under active thyroid (medicated) and every bit of extra weight shows. Previously I allowed myself to get obese but since dropping 20+ lbs I’m no longer in that category. I’m still working on getting my BMI into the ‘normal’ category and this is one of my goals for 2020.

The previous threads have proved wonderfully supportive and inspiring The ladies on these threads have been awesome and shared some great achievements!

Good Morning

@fallfallfall congrats on your weighin! Great result! 🏅👏🌟. Jason Fung’s ideas are very interesting and I have a book somewhere that he wrote. Previously I did subscribe to Diet Doctor when I flirted with a keto diet. There were some great recipes. I found out I can’t do keto long term. My body physiologically changed as in my cholesterol went up and my digestion just didn’t thrive on it. I need the pre biotics you only get with some carbs, brown rice for example, to feed the probiotics. I do ok with lower carb and nothing is banned Grin

@SunshineCake how are you today? Hope you’re feeling calmer and the inhaler is working. I can understanding feeling panicked if your breathing gets affected.

@MrsJonesAndMe chicken satay sounds delish. Working 50hours a week (I have myself previously but I think it must be like child birth and you forget the affects of it) sounds dreadfully hard work. It’s a miracle you for household jobs in and family life in! Well done for not ordering a takeaway!

Menu today is undecided. I have a few options available but can’t decide. I will be good and it won’t involve alcohol, sugar or wheat Grin

wipes sweat of brow I’ve just returned to iPad after hanging washing out, yes really (stunningly sunny & mild with a light breeze) to find I hadn’t click ‘post message’ so here’s hoping it posts.

@Foreverlexicon that’s a great loss, well done! If you lost ‘just’ 1.2lbs week on week for a year that would see a loss of 4.4stone! Slow and steady is good. How are you with you OH being away? Hope you enjoy your ride!

Morning all. Good to see some losses coming through, it's so motivating. I have been cycling 10k every day this week and am feeling much better for it. Off for a pamper this afternoon including a haircut so I should at least lose some weight there!😂 Have a great weekend everyone.

MrsJonesAndMe · 18/01/2020 13:16

Enjoy the horse ride @Foreverlexicon Honestly that's a great result. Like Busted says, it all adds up!

Wow, that's a lot @WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa. Enjoy the pampering.

I WFH @BustedDreamsso can fit everything in, but I normally don't do 5 days, so it's been a bit gruelling! Off next Friday and the one after so should be OK.

Still 13.1kg/28.8lbs down so holding steady. Had some nuts and pineapple this morning...chicken and mushroom wild rice soup for lunch and tea will be an omelette. I have got a Double Decker in the cupboard for this PM.

How are you bearing up @Galvantula and @SunshineCake?

SunshineCake · 18/01/2020 15:52

Hello everyone Smile. Thank you for the name check messagesFlowers

I didn't sleep very well as I had to get up at six to take DD TO THE TRAIN STATION. HAD A LOVELY LONG WALK WITH my dog and then dh started making bacon sandwiches. I was going to come on and ask if when doing IF it was okay to have a day off but I stuck to it. Until I made fresh bread... I had some an hour early but never mind.

Not feeling 100% but better than yesterday by quite a bit and a bit better than this morning.

Galvantula · 18/01/2020 18:33

Thanks @BustedDreams. Yesterday was a bit awful as we found out what had happened to our colleague and everyone v upset. :(

Trying to stay distracted with kids over the weekend.

Been maintaining at 58.7 this week, so still down from 59.1 at the start of the year.

Will be having some wine shortly once kids in bed!

SunshineCake · 18/01/2020 18:49

Flowers @Galvantula.

MrsJonesAndMe · 18/01/2020 20:51

I do have the odd days off @SunshineCake. One night a week I take DD somewhere and I have to wait in a coffee shop, so it means I eat outside my window. It really doesn't seem to affect it as long as I don't make a habit of it - like going completely off the rails at Christmas.

Glad to hear you feel a bit better today.

Hope the wine helps a bit @Galvantula

Was hungry earlier this afternoon after the chocolate, so had GF crackers and cheese rather than getting anything else I could have stuffed my face with. Feeling nicely satiated after my omelette. Window closed, body brushed and yoga done too! Abs hurt already Blush

Night night losers Wink Check in with you all tomorrow!

Today has ended up being OMAD. I did a roast today rather than tomorrow as we’ll be out. Cleaned and closed kitchen at 18:00 and had sparkling water all evening. Night All.

I stepped on the scales at home which suggest be put on 2lb which means I'm heavier then when I started. DH said my tummy looks smaller. I'm feeling a bit fed up now, but ploughing on.

fallfallfall · 18/01/2020 23:55

busted it was mrs jones i believe who posted the link a few days back.
now the video's on youtube, you find out much later are to a target audience. and i wonder if the lectures are tailored to that particular group (diabetics). i enjoyed learning some of the concepts although with my nursing background some was shady. in the end he leaves you hanging with no definitive answer to how to combat obesity. although my husband seems to have taken away a very different message...
in the end, i'm doing well with simple portion control (some calorie counting) lots of added veggies to ensure i'm full. no snacks etc.
today i hid cabbage (as i have lots) in my yellow split pea soup, it does not seem to have adversely affected the flavor (my big concern).
chili in the slow cooker with all sorts of veggies pureed in, possibly some dna as i sliced my finger on my mandolin (just kidding about the dna) but blood was a tad bit everywhere for a while.

BustedDreams · 19/01/2020 09:12

Good Morning All

@SheepSocks is it possible to just weigh on the same scale each time? Please don’t be despondent, weight naturally fluctuates from day to day as well as increasing throughout the day. I find it better to weigh in a morning after having been to the loo but before any fluids/food.

@fallfallfall I agree with your summary. My view is there just isn’t a one size fits all way of losing. What makes one person overweight won’t necessarily make another over weight. Same with methods of losing. There are so many variables to consider. I’m with you about cc and plenty of veggies. My toes are curling and my eyes wincing at your dalliance with the mandolin. Hope it heals ok.

Had planned to go out, now oh wants to stay home as one of his friends might pop in. Plenty of healthy stuff in so will have a peruse in the fridge and put something together.

@SunshineCake yesterday I missed when you said you’d swerved the bacon butty ... well done! The feeling later after having swerved is fabulous. How are you feeling? Is the inhaler helping?

NorthernPowermouse · 19/01/2020 09:54

Morning all. Well yesterday was a write off. Went out with friends so lots of (carb-heavy) food was consumed and wine drunk. BUT it was all within my 8 hour window so perhaps not as bad as it might have been. Will stay off the scales for a while though I think! Back to it today though. Been to park run and about to have a brunch of smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and avocado. Nut roast and veg for tea.

Did catch up last night but after wine so will have to go back and re-read when I get a minute from the kids. Happy Sunday everyone!

Foreverlexicon · 19/01/2020 13:47

My day yesterday wasn’t what I planned at all.
Ended up having a chocolate and caramel hot cross bun with Dutch chocolate sprinkles For breakfast (this is actually considered an acceptable breakfast food in Holland 🤔), jacket potato with beans and broccoli for lunch, couple of biscuits as a snack then a roast beef and cheese roll at my friends for dinner plus a fair bit of booze 😳 did go for a 1.5 hour walk and rode the horse.

Today friend made sausage baps for breakfast so I had that, just had a light lunch of boiled eggs, cheese string, tomatoes and olives. Going to ride now then go for a run. Dinner is Asian glazed chicken with rice and stir fry veg. Melon or mango for pud.

I lost my head a little getting carried away with wanting to do this fast and I already felt my head starting to frazzle. I need to go slow, focus on eating healthy meals and if I have treats with friends then yolo.

MrsJonesAndMe · 19/01/2020 16:31

That dinner sounds lovely @Foreverlexicon

Same scales and rough time of day a must @SheepSocks where do you normally weigh? Don't get despondent.

I agree that there's more than one thing and I still have to finish the videos - no chance for that at the weekend - but I agree that it sounded like it was aimed at type 2 diabetics or possibly obese with risk of developing type 2. Will return with a verdict once I've finished watching them.

Hope the finger is OK @fallfallfall that sounds painful!

Hope you've had a good day @BustedDreams. Roast nearly done here. My kids moan if I serve a roast and it's not Sunday Hmm Doesn't stop me doing a Wednesday roast Grin

Sounds good @NorthernPowermouse, sometimes that's just what you need.

Catch up with you all tomorrow.

SunshineCake · 19/01/2020 19:09

Hello all

Such a busy day but I have been thinking of you all and wishing you well.

I was out with the dog for two hours this morning. Was lovely. I figure the more I'm out with her the less damage I will do if I eat something I should have reconsidered.

I didn't eat until after two today. Wasn't hungry. Normally I'm looking at the clock from about 11, 12pm ish.

Emotionally I'm feeling scared. Have had a good day. Coped well with dh being gone all day. The fear comes from the unusual happy feeling and/or I've done well for the day with whatever I've done.

SheepSocks · 19/01/2020 20:08

I've been weighing at the same time of day, about 6pm. This morning I hopped on the scales as soon as I woke up, they implied that I'm heavier than before!

I'm not going to give up though. It's made me sad but I am determined to end this year 3 stone lighter.

MrsJonesAndMe · 19/01/2020 20:41

Just popped back 'cause i didn't want to leave you on your own...

don't sabotage yourself @SunshineCake You are doing brilliantly and settled in really well with the IF. Missed that DH is away. Can DD keep you company with a bit of telly and a cuddle from the dog or cat? Tomorrow is a new day.

Hmm...no idea then @SheepSocks do you normally weigh somewhere else like the gym? Scales vary enormously.

SheepSocks · 19/01/2020 20:50

@MrsJonesAndMe yes, I do normally weigh myself at that gym. But I have my doubts about their scales as they proclaimed I had grown an inch in the last week.

I think I might just exercise and eat well and weigh myself in the middle of Feb. My body may have started to behave then?

BustedDreams · 19/01/2020 21:30

Evening All

@SunshineCake I also missed that your dh is away. Sending a reassuring (((hug))). Hope you get a good nights sleep and wake refreshed.

@NorthernPowermouse hope you had a better day today. Your brunch sounds delish!

@Foreverlexicon I agree with your eating healthily and going slow. It’s got to be doable and sustainable. Shift work doesn’t help with keeping a routine so you are up against it.

@MrsJonesAndMe we are Roast Twins ... I often do a Wednesday roast! Backs a little easier today thank you.

@SheepSocks its important to do what works for you. Weighing less often might be the way to go.

Kitchen cleaned and closed by 18:00. Stayed within my cal allowance. Drinking sparkling water this evening. Earlier I was chatting to oh and he commented how dedicated I’m being. I said I really wanted to bust the 10 stone barrier and for it to stick. He said I had a lovely figure and we could do it by illusion... he’d eat more and get bigger and by default I’d look smaller. He then asked me to fetch him another bar of chocolate from the kitchen ...

Anyway ladies I say night and chat tomorrow.

OP posts:
Galvantula · 19/01/2020 21:45

I've had a good day today. I can't decide if I'm actually hungry right now or just want to comfort eat. Blush

I'm definitely one for eating my feelings>guilt>eat those feelings>guilt etc.

Managing to get out of that cycle has helped, but I'm sure it'd be easy to fall back in.

NorthernPowermouse · 19/01/2020 22:32

@BustedDreams your DH sounds lovely 😊

@SunshineCake hope you’re ok. Well done for a good day.

I’ve had a much better day, haven’t strayed from my menu (apart for a tiny bit of leftover cake - literally two mouthfuls) and stayed within my 8 hour window again. Peppermint tea tonight. And nearly made my 10,000 steps! Chasing round after frisbees in the park must have been good for me after all...

fallfallfall · 20/01/2020 00:24

I like using the mandolin but honestly have nipped my fingers so many times I’ve lost count. This should help.
I had a decent workout at the track, but my supper burger will affect the scales for a few days to come...seasoning salt.
