Happy New Year! Here we are! Not just a brand new year but a brand new decade. New decades always feel that bit more significant and life enhancing.

I, like many others, would love to embrace the Twenty Twenties feeling more svelte, toned, healthier & happier. A massive part of that is underpinned by what we eat, when we eat it and why? In turn, how we feel mentally underpins our eating habits. Eating feelings, celebratory meals out, food rewards etc. By being balanced and mindful around food will help us all stay on track.

I know that if I don’t keep on it by setting goals, logging, calorie counting, utilising time restricted eating, and eating a mostly Mediterranean style diet I would gain month on month. Diet and weight loss isn’t a one size fits all. There are so many enjoyable options. Personally If I eat a carb heavy diet I hold not only extra weight but also carry water. My whole silhouette blobs out. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by walking & swimming.

I’m petite in statue, have an under active thyroid (medicated) and every bit of extra weight shows. Previously I allowed myself to get obese but since dropping 20+ lbs I’m no longer in that category. I’m still working on getting my BMI into the ‘normal’ category and this is one of my goals for 2020.

The previous threads have proved wonderfully supportive and inspiring The ladies on these threads have been awesome and shared some great achievements!

Well done Minnie! And everyone else who’s lost. Sorry I can’t remember names, need a notebook to write everything down before I post!

I weighed again this morning and was 11st 4 which is more believable and means I’ve lost 10lb in two weeks. Very happy with that. Just need to keep it up now, two stone to go!

ilovetrees30 · 16/01/2020 08:35

well done for resisting @MinnieLatte. The office treats are my downfall!!

Weighed myself this morning and I am back down to my weight at the end of November so all the christmas weight has gone yay!!

Sinus infections are horrid @riotlady hope you feel better soon!!

BustedDreams · 16/01/2020 09:19

Good Morning You Lovely Lot

I’m still in my bedroom drinking tea and through the open window I can hear the birds chirping and singing ... sounds beautiful. It’s a nice distraction from the back pain I’ve got that has been somewhat worse recently. Seeing a physio so hopefully I can find some relief soon!

@WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa That’s a great wow result!

@SheepSocks hope you’re feeling better.

@FearlessSwiftie you can do it! Plan plan plan then stick to it Grin

@Galvantula Sending a hug, sorry to hear that. Bereavements, especially sudden ones can really affects us. Years ago in one of my first jobs, my manager who had also become my mentor died suddenly one Monday morning. I remember feeling totally floored by it. He was relatively young too :(

@Skyejuly me you are the same! I got under 10 stone towards the end of last year but now I seem to yo-yo between 141lbs and 145lbs. I reassure myself if I don’t continue to eat mindfully I would be much heavier. I am also struggling with under active thyroid which I think affects weight and the ability to lose it.

@MrsJonesAndMe passes hot lemon, ginger and honey infusion. Get well soon!

@fallfallfall you totally deserve to see a new low! Everything crossed for you.

@2020newme what a WOW result 👍👏🌟 Well done!

@Foreverlexicon I know what you mean. I feel like I need a feed after several days of angelic eating. So I’ll switch up to more carby but within cals. My body loves carbs so much it then hangs onto them plus a load of water to boot! I can’t go too low carb, my digestion doesn’t like it.

@riotlady sorry to hear that lovie. Be kind to yourself. When you feel up to it come back and join us.

@MinnieLatte well done on harnessing your will power and swerving the doughnuts! Good luck for your WOT.

@NorthernPowermouse great news! That’s an incredible loss. Well done 🌟👏🏅 ... ps ... can I borrow your scales?

@ilovetrees30 great news! That’s not taken you long.

Today’s menu is chicken salad for lunch and sea bass, salad & veg for evening meal. White tea, turmeric latte with nut milk, water. Apple, 2 satsumas.

Have a good one! Apologies if I cross post ...

Thanks @BustedDreams. We are all just very confused and sad as it's not even clear what happened yet. It's hard not to 'what if' about when you last spoke to them etc.

SunshineCake · 16/01/2020 11:34

Morning all. I'm shattered! Lovely long walk with my dog then her best friend arrived and itching thirty seconds both dogs and I were filthy Grin. Then I had to take my cat to the vet for a check up so he's avoiding me now Sad. He is okay though and doing well.

Weight wise I was the same this morning as yesterday and was a bit disheartened then I reminded myself usually 1.5 lbs a week is averagely good and I can't keep losing big amounts. I'm still down. I'm doing well. Plus I am on my period and I have never knowingly lost weight while in before Confused.

Not sure what I'll eat today as I've lost to use up but I just had a change of plan and will have the salad with dinner tonight with dh.

Happy day everyone.

MrsJonesAndMe · 16/01/2020 13:25

Hi all

Thanks @BustedDreams feeling better again today.

Really "enjoying" the series on YouTube. Lots of factors to play in obesity as far as I've got! You're a bit ahead of me @fallfallfall. Well done on your low weight, you deserve it!

Hope your back feels better soon @busteddreams. Not good!

Glad the cat is OK @SunshineCake He'll come round Wink How is DD behaving?

Foreverlexicon · 16/01/2020 20:00

Not looking like the best day.
I don’t sleep well between nights and woke up a couple of times hungry and ended up snacking on rubbish. I can’t go back to sleep when I’m hungry and sleep always wins as I can’t work on the 4 hours of sleep I’d of had otherwise! But I never fancy fruit/veg snacks, I want something comforting.
Any ideas of what to replace it with next set? Thinking maybe peanut butter and ryvitta, it’s better than chocolate?!

About to have a not low calorie dinner of pie, mash and veg before work but I forgot to defrost anything for lunch and this means I won’t be hungry so I’ll probably just have a couple of bits of fruit and coffee during work.

2020newme · 16/01/2020 20:40

OMAD today as I had an 11am meeting in London and had no breakfast as per IF regime. I wanted to get away asap after the meeting at 1pm and by the time I got home and then went to the supermarket and got home, it was 15.30 and I was past the hunger stage.

Digestive system has recovered so hopefully I will have a good weight tomorrow.

MinnieLatte · 16/01/2020 21:22

Weigh in for me today- I lost 0.5lb. I didn't expect to lose much as I'd lost 5lb last week but if I'm being honest, I was a bit gutted. Then suddenly, when I felt a bit down, I could hear myself thinking ' so what's the point? You've eaten all the right things & only lost half a pound'

That's the voice that's made me give up before! So, today has been hard but I haven't given in & im so pleased about that.
Ive also been to the gym tonight & that's another positive thing.
Small steps....

SunshineCake · 16/01/2020 22:00

Hi @MrsJonesAndMe, pusscat has forgiven me. Chicken and dinner can do that.

DD is a changed child but having said that I am wondering whether I have changed too and/or we are responding better to each other.

Houmous and carrot sticks or apple pieces, *@Foreverlexicon

SunshineCake · 16/01/2020 22:02

Previous post but one had terrible Ipad responsible typos.

@MinnieLatte that's 5.5lbs in two weeks. Above average. Keep going.

SunshineCake · 17/01/2020 07:51

Morning all

I'm shocked to be down again. I'm 1.4 lbs off my previous lowest iirc since I started in this lovely group. I'm doing eat 12.45 - 8.30pm (not continuallyGrin but not calorie counting. I don't feel deprived. I enjoy a mince pie at lunch but I am feeling shocked.

Hope everyone else has a good day. I'm about to walk the dog then going for my asthma review before doing a food shop.

MrsJonesAndMe · 17/01/2020 08:15

@MinnieLatte it is a great loss: 5.5lbs! Gradual weight loss is best, so you're doing well to keep going through the disappointment.

I'm down to my lowest in a looooong time too 28.8lbs down in total, so my blip earlier in the week didn't ruin it all. Plan for today is a 16:7 arrangement to compensate for eating later than normal last night. Yoga later and will watch episode 4 of the Obesity thing on YouTube.

@Foreverlexicon don't beat yourself up. Would PB on apple work? But Ryvita and cheese or PB may also do the trick.

@sunshinecake. Glad to hear things are calm. Same here touch wood

Happy Friday all, check back later x

BustedDreams · 17/01/2020 09:01

Good Morning All.

@MinnieLatte well done on not listening to your own inner critic. You have to turn the thought around in that if you didn’t follow your plan you would see gains rather than a stall or small losses. Weight loss isn’t linear and there are natural fluctuations depending not only related to food but also hormones and any meds you might have taken. Keep on it, because if you do this time next month you’ll definitely weigh less ... the alternative would be you’d be heavier.

Wow @SunshineCake that’s great! 👍

@Foreverlexicon nights suck! Totally messes your internal clock up and cause hormonal fluctuations. All things considered you’re doing great! Keep on it.

Sounds good @2020newme. OMAD can give you a boost. I always feel lighter and more energised the following day.

@Galvantula hope you’re ok.

Today’s menu is omelette & salad for lunch, fish tray bake later.
I’m back down to 143.2lbs, so a drop of 1.7lbs since WOW. Hoping it sticks!

Have a good one!

I need a hug.

My review did not go well. I have to have new inhalers. Stronger ones Sad. I have also been referred for a ECG as the nurse is worried and needs to rule out cardiac issues. I wasn't feeling too good as I did the food shop so it took longer than normal. Having lunch now and will just sit with my dog and watch some tv for a bit. I haven't really taken my asthma seriously so it a big wake up call. Seems I have it due to living with a heavy smoking relative as an older teenager Sad.

I also got told intermittent fasting was not the way to lose weight but he means well and I carry on while I am managing okay.

BustedDreams · 17/01/2020 13:39

(((Hug))) I’m so sorry to hear that! Hope you’re ok. Try not to worry, easier said than done I know.

annabell22 · 17/01/2020 13:52

@MinnieLatte focus on the process, not the outcome. Keep doing the right thing the majority of the time and you will get the outcome you want.

I have run 5km and walked 6km today so my Fitbit is very happy.

On the treadmill this morning I was thinking about times when others have commented on my weight. Two incidents stood out, one was in the family planning clinic many years ago. I was in my 20s and on the pill and the staff always weighed you before providing the next supply. I remember the nurse saying, 'Ooh, you've put a lot of weight on' and feeling embarrassed and my cheeks flaming. Afterwards, as I walked home, I thought what a ridiculous thing it was to say as I was still only around 8.5 stone!

The most recent one was in early December when DH went to the rugby with a friend that I hadn't seen for a couple of years. While they were out for the day, the friend commented to DH that I had put weight on and DH, who is usually loyal and reliable, agreed that I had!! Well, I have lost 7lbs since then and sometimes you need to hear it from someone else, don't you? I knew I had gained, but this comment really spurred me into action.

annabell22 · 17/01/2020 13:56

Oh dear @SunshineCake , I hope the inhalers do the trick and you are soon feeling better.

SheepSocks · 17/01/2020 15:11

@SunshineCake sorry that you have had bad news. Take some time to be kind to yourself.

I've been to the gym today for a body balance class, I sweated liked pig - thought it would be a gentle exercise.

I've found a treat that I've enjoyed from Joe Wicks' lean in 15 book. It's a delicious chunky monkey smoothie. I can see these becoming a regular treat!

BustedDreams · 17/01/2020 16:07

@annabell22 I share your feeling of being mortified at receiving comments about your weight. A few years ago I went into an independent clothes shop ... just browsing ... the lady declared ‘madam, you’ll find our sizes don’t go up to you size’ (or something very similar). I was a 10/12 bottom, 12/14 top. I never crossed their threshold again Grin

OP posts:
SunshineCake · 17/01/2020 17:07

Didn't get the rest I planned but dd has been lovely and dh will be home by six and then I won't have to do anything else. Have used my reliever inhaler but that has helped. Had a short sharp pain in my right shoulder which scared me a bit but I know I'm being over dramatic and panicky.

Having paella for dinner and have made a new pudding which is strawberry cheesecake milkshake but with healthy dairy bits so I will enjoy that later.

fallfallfall · 17/01/2020 17:19

sunshine do be good to yourself, think those positive healing thoughts that you will feel in better control of your asthma soon.
with regards to IF...well DH has listened to all the jason fung video's, downloaded his book in kindle, and purchased for both of us the app...
a bit over zealous.
as much as he mentions several times that calorie counting isn't helpful one of the first things that pops up on the app...is that i'm to eat 1000-1300 calories per day in my window...well you can only figure that out if you count calories...the app doesn't link to MFP or the apple watch for exercise (i've emailed and asked to withdraw my subscription to the app).
DH promises to make a one page summery of the book and no doubt i'll be hearing about his theory chapter by chapter...
meanwhile on the track: i'm getting in my steps, exercise minutes and staying focused.
149.4 this morning

SunshineCake · 17/01/2020 17:32

When I've had trouble breathing it hasn't usually lasted this long before.

Right now calorie counting isn't something I can do easily but I am losing weight and eating much better so I will carry on.

MrsJonesAndMe · 17/01/2020 20:13

Gosh, is he a bit bored or does he become obsessed with other stuff @fallfallfall? I'm finding it interesting and can definitely see that wheat and sugar is not going to be great things in the long term...which is what I think I know anyway.

I made chicken satay with a lovely salad with vinegar dressing and a huge pitta Hmm Should have done rice, but life is a bit of compromise and reality worked 50 hours this week

Oh my goodness @SunshineCake Sending you some Flowers and a restful weekend. Please take care of yourself.

@annabell22 My worst memory of weight, was being asked by everyone if I was pregnant when DD was about 2...no, I was just fat. Working FT, unsupportive (ex) husband, young child etc etc Angry

That sounds like hard work @SheepSocks

Well done @BustedDreams Hope it sticks!

Foreverlexicon · 18/01/2020 09:19

@SunshineCake glad they’re looking after you at least!

Weigh day for me - lost 1.2lb. Mixed feelings. Glad as I’ve had a fair bit of naughty snacking the last few days but bit disappointed as it’s my first week so was hoping a bit more!

I’ll weigh every 10 days from now as that works better with my shifts. Planning to be a bit stricter this set!

I’m waking up slowly with lots of coffee then going for a run. Will take the horse for a long ride too.

Food will probably be brunch of beans, eggs and homemade hash browns then thinking pita pizza with salad for dinner. Going to a friends tonight so will have some drinks but no snacks!
