Happy New Year! Here we are! Not just a brand new year but a brand new decade. New decades always feel that bit more significant and life enhancing.

I, like many others, would love to embrace the Twenty Twenties feeling more svelte, toned, healthier & happier. A massive part of that is underpinned by what we eat, when we eat it and why? In turn, how we feel mentally underpins our eating habits. Eating feelings, celebratory meals out, food rewards etc. By being balanced and mindful around food will help us all stay on track.

I know that if I don’t keep on it by setting goals, logging, calorie counting, utilising time restricted eating, and eating a mostly Mediterranean style diet I would gain month on month. Diet and weight loss isn’t a one size fits all. There are so many enjoyable options. Personally If I eat a carb heavy diet I hold not only extra weight but also carry water. My whole silhouette blobs out. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by walking & swimming.

I’m petite in statue, have an under active thyroid (medicated) and every bit of extra weight shows. Previously I allowed myself to get obese but since dropping 20+ lbs I’m no longer in that category. I’m still working on getting my BMI into the ‘normal’ category and this is one of my goals for 2020.

The previous threads have proved wonderfully supportive and inspiring The ladies on these threads have been awesome and shared some great achievements!

Thanks for your advice re logging everything in MFP @BustedDreams, I think that has kept me on track much more effectively than generally trying to eat more healthily.

I weighed this morning and was 2 pounds down which I'm really pleased with. I'm telling myself if I kept this up I'd have lost all the weight I want to lose by March which is nothing. I just need to keep myself motivated. My clothes are already feeling a little looser which helps the motivation.

SheepSocks · 13/01/2020 22:47

I have sinned, against better judgement I are two dairy milks today, only 2 small multi pack ones. I'm due on and have just been given another course of antibiotics for an ear infection that won't go away.

I have hearing loss anyway, and my hearing has been at an all time low for 2 months. The doctor broke the news to me today that I'm on a waiting list that is 5 months long to see a consultant!

fallfallfall · 13/01/2020 23:14

mrsjones thanks for the video link to watch and enjoy
the knitting isn't going well and i have to meet up with an expert to sort out the v neck.
dh and i will go to the track after supper.
-21C today arctic outflow warning, thankfully no wind.

BustedDreams · 13/01/2020 23:24

Evening All

Late one for me. Kitchen was cleaned & closed 18:30. Today ended up being OMAD. I made chilli salmon fish cakes. Had with peas and a large salad. Tasty it was. Followed by Greek yoghurt, pecans & honey.

@Foreverlexicon how was the horse ride? Keeping busy if gf is away.

Proud of you @SunshineCake, keeping on it when turmoil abounds. Good advice from @2020newme.

@Galvantula 👍 good weight.

@MrsJonesAndMe no worries. Thank you for the you tube links, will view tomorrow.

@Juliecloud welcome. Have you decided how you’re doing this? Plenty of info up thread. It might help you decide. Let us know.

@RunningNinja79 sending Gin ... I totally empathise!

@NorthernPowermouse well done for sticking with it!

Off to bed now, night night.

sunshine mine are well into their 30's. and my approach made no sense 30 years ago so certainly any advice i have would be batshit.
but i had real challenges with my dd. the boys were difficult in different ways so i understand.

SunshineCake · 14/01/2020 06:54

Yes! @fallfallfall my boys are very straight forward and easy. Sometimes they are cheeky and rude but never really hurtful. I've been hurt a couple of times by my eldest but partly because it was such a shock and probably because he had a point. He told off his sister a couple of times at Christmas which I appreciated.

That's not a sin @SheepSocks that's foodSmile. I hope you don't Jane to wait too long for help.

I was scared last night as the winds were very loud. We live in top of a hill and have a lot of trees. I'm yet to fully check if there is any damage.

Off to weigh now and hopefully avoid the school run..

SunshineCake · 14/01/2020 07:19

I'm a pound down! Really surprised and happy.

SunshineCake · 14/01/2020 07:25

Have not Jane @SheepSocks. Oops.

BustedDreams · 14/01/2020 07:53

Good Morning All

Great news @SunshnCake, sounds positive. We had appalling weather last night too. Sounds calmer now. 👏👍 for the loss. You are doing fantastic!

@Winecheesesleep you’re welcome, good to hear it helps keep you on track. I always do better if I plan, track & log via apps.

@SheepSocks sorry to hear about your earring loss. Don’t sweat the small stuff of 2 little chocolates.

Today planning on home made soup then a spicy chilli with cauli rice later. Water, white tea, turmeric drink.

Have a good one! Don’t forget it WW tomorrow Grin

Foreverlexicon · 14/01/2020 08:37

I had a fairly good day yesterday. Feel like I ate too much as basically had 4 meals but I was awake and on the go 7.30-00:30 so I’m not sure how to avoid it to be honest!

B - cappuccino and cereal bar
L - omelette with mushrooms, cheese and chorizo, salad and cheese straws
D - leftover chicken and roast veg
S - melon

Then had some cheese and crackers and a bit of chocolate when I got home.

Today;
B - fruit and fibre cereal
L - omelette, roast veg and ryvitta
S - melon
D - spaghetti and meatballs with extra veg
Probs some chocolate when I get in.

I feel much better in myself but I’m not sure this is enough to lose weight. I’ll weigh on Saturday when I’m off and if I’m not losing I will make some changes.

Had a lovely if slightly lively ride yesterday and will do the same today.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 14/01/2020 09:42

Morning all, apologies for being AWOL, I've been really tired this last week, and a bit fed up of looking at the same view from my living room windows. Had physio yesterday though and she okayed my weight bearing/walking/ gentle exercising and I've woken up feeling much better - 10k cycle on the bike done this morning. Need to get a wiggle on with that as signed up for the 25mile Jan challenge with Race At Your Pace, thinking I'd be up and about much sooner - I want my medal! 😂

I've managed to keep on track with food (possibly only because I had no junk in and physically couldn't leave the house to buy some) and am looking forward to weigh in tomorrow to see what happens.

Will go back and read the past few days properly over lunch. Have a great day everyone.

SunshineCake · 14/01/2020 12:03

Thank you @BustedDreams. I feel like mummy approves. Don't take that the wrong way as we are similar ages I think but I never had a mum and always wish I had one so you being proud is lovely Flowers.

My best idea is to pre prepare food as I can't eat as soon as it is time without panic eating because I am starving.

MrsJonesAndMe · 14/01/2020 12:44

Hi all

Lots of posts and a rubbish brain today! @BustedDreams and @fallfallfall he's a bit uhm dry in presentation and I'm only on episode 2, but it's interesting science he's talking about.

Well done @sunshinecake and wow @fallfallfall to get out in those temps is real dedication!

Sounds like you're doing a bit better then @WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa and @Foreverlexicon I wouldn't worry about the but of extra food. Bet you've walked miles!

I didn't weigh today. Will do dry brushing and yoga again tonight. Have a good day all!

wapphighwood · 14/01/2020 13:27

Can I join?
I'm 166cm about 67kg and aiming for 60kg and then maybe more from there. Aiming to do body measurements once a month and also track body fat percentage.

I'm using a food delivery service 4 days a week that calorie counts for me (1200 cals, plus 2/3 cups of tea and maybe a small treat). On the other 3 days trying to keep calories low myself, mostly just protein veg and small amount of fruit, trying to keep carbs down. Wine allowed in moderation.

Exercise wise I'm time limited with 2 young dc and Dh working long hours, I'm usually too tired on a weekday evening, but try to get out to walk at lunch break at work (only get 30mins) and squeeze a walk or a cycle in at the weekend if I can. I used to do CrossFit but not possible post dc2 due to a prolapse that ongoing with consultant at hospital, so no heavy lifting or aerobics unfortunately.

2020newme · 14/01/2020 16:15

I had some turmeric tea today and now have a banging headache Angry but of course it might not be linked.

Looking forward to weigh in tomorrow.

@SunshineCake I understand. I also had an abusive "childhood". Mostly absent alcoholic father and abusive narc mother. She has never told me she loves me, delighted in any failures or sadness I experienced and was just vile really. It's harder to know where to draw the line when you haven't had good role models.

Take heart from the fact that your DC will never have to experience what you did and you do not have to be perfect, nobody is. Try not to sweat the small stuff. It's a bit like having a toddler. Ignore the bad behaviour (up to a point) and reward the good. It's hard. Flowers

Lionso · 14/01/2020 16:22

I seem to have stalled this week, lost a pound overall only. Official weekly weigh-in is tomorrow but I am not expecting much movement. No idea why the loss is so low, been sticking to less than 900 cals every day, hardly a carb has passed my lips either.

Weirdly also not feeling hungry today either. Anyway fingers crossed it picks up again soon!

ilovetrees30 · 14/01/2020 17:20

@lionso could you be eating too few calories?? 900 really doesnt seem like enough.

Bad day today dog refused to walk in the storm so no lunchtime exercise and Ive just scoffed three chocolate digestives 😫 after last weeks 3lb loss i dont think the scales will be as kind tomorrow but we will see.

SunshineCake · 14/01/2020 17:57

@2020newme your post has made me quite emotional. I find it hard when strangers appear to care more about me than my parents ever did.

All okay with interactions with Dd today. She rang to ask if she could go out and was patient when I couldn't hear her and appreciative when I said she could go out. I'm taking it as a win while acknowledging others may laugh at my easily pleased attitude.

I struggled with ignore the bad reward the good when they were little as they were terrors so few good bits to reward it felt at times. I also couldn't square how they knew they'd done the wrong thing if they were never told.

Lionso · 14/01/2020 18:47

@ilovetrees30 yes as I am following the Blood Sugar Diet (Michael Mosley's books) for 8 weeks. You are meant to eat 800 cals a day. Although I tend to be closer to 850 most days. Apparently a stall in weeks 2 and 3 are fairly normal. Doesn't help my frustration at the scales though!

I have defo lost inches though, my trousers are looser :)

RunningNinja79 · 14/01/2020 19:51

My weight was still up. Was really hoping for it to go back down. Last week I was 12st 9.8 most days, today and yesterday I was 12st 10.6. Was thinking about changing my breakfast from a cereal bar to overnight oats. Right now I have just been concentrating on the times of eating. I'm worried though that it will be more calories. How will I lose weight then?

Well I suppose I can give it a go. Id say I've got nothing to lose by trying, but I'm trying to lose.

BustedDreams · 14/01/2020 20:01

Sorry to hear that @2020newme ... how much did you use. A quick Google search says it’s unlikely to be the Turmeric but then again everything affects different people in different ways. Hope it’s soon better!

@Lionso sorry if you’ve already shared but how tall/what weight are you (don’t feel obliged to share) Have you worked out your TDEE You might have gone too low. But then again, in my case, I’m petite, 10st ish give or take and I have around 1000 with the odd day OMAD and a fewer number of cals. If I eat more I gain. I understand your frustration as we all know those that weight loss comes easy. Keep at it without depriving yourself.

@wapphighwood welcome. What are the food delivery meals like. Are they value for money? I imagine they make the whole process easier.

@SunshineCake you have done very well though! You’ve tackled the emotional side as well as the food side. And you’ve kept it up when the going gets tough. You have identified your triggers and found alternate ways of dealing with them! You are inspiring!

@WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa ‘waves’ Nice to see you. We are all right here :). Great to hear you’re feeling better!

Cleaned and closed the kitchen at 19:00. Stuck totally to plan. I’ll be surprised if I don’t see a loss tomorrow but realistic enough not to be too disappointed if I don’t.

I can feel a cupboard feckle coming on ... see you tomorrow for WW.

OP posts:
wapphighwood · 14/01/2020 20:14

@BustedDreams the food delivery is an extravagance, it's about 20 pounds a day, for three meals, snack (trail bar type things), bag of nuts or seeds and a piece of fruit. The meals are freshly made and varied, better than I would cook for myself/think to cook.

My justification has been weight loss is apparently mostly diet not exercise so I'm not paying for a gym membership/pt sessions but paying for the food convenience. I've tried multiple times to track calories myself, I don't have the time and it becomes a faff.

BustedDreams · 14/01/2020 20:32

@wapphighwood it’s a great idea if budget allows. Let us know how you go on.

OP posts:
BustedDreams · 14/01/2020 20:34

Do you like eggs @RunningNinja79 ... they make a great breakfast, keep you satiated and don’t encourage water weight from the carbs.

Quick check in to say I lost 2lbs this week.
