Happy New Year! Here we are! Not just a brand new year but a brand new decade. New decades always feel that bit more significant and life enhancing.

I, like many others, would love to embrace the Twenty Twenties feeling more svelte, toned, healthier & happier. A massive part of that is underpinned by what we eat, when we eat it and why? In turn, how we feel mentally underpins our eating habits. Eating feelings, celebratory meals out, food rewards etc. By being balanced and mindful around food will help us all stay on track.

I know that if I don’t keep on it by setting goals, logging, calorie counting, utilising time restricted eating, and eating a mostly Mediterranean style diet I would gain month on month. Diet and weight loss isn’t a one size fits all. There are so many enjoyable options. Personally If I eat a carb heavy diet I hold not only extra weight but also carry water. My whole silhouette blobs out. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by walking & swimming.

I’m petite in statue, have an under active thyroid (medicated) and every bit of extra weight shows. Previously I allowed myself to get obese but since dropping 20+ lbs I’m no longer in that category. I’m still working on getting my BMI into the ‘normal’ category and this is one of my goals for 2020.

The previous threads have proved wonderfully supportive and inspiring The ladies on these threads have been awesome and shared some great achievements!

I've just come home from the gym after giving myself an hour workout. I decided to weigh myself a day earlier as I can't get to the gym tomorrow. I've lost the grand total of one pound.

I used the fancy pants evil scales which measured me. Somehow I have grown a inch taller since last week. Should I trust these scales?

BustedDreams · 12/01/2020 20:52

Oh my goodness @fallfallfall that knitting is awesome. Very nice! Lucky recipient 😮

sheep weighing in midday is not useful imho. Too much fluid imbalance.

This is the turmeric drink I have access too, either with the warm vanilla almond milk (sweet stuff) or banana and vanilla almond milk it’s rather yummy. I also have organic protein powder. The protein powder is calorie rich and I LOVE LOVE LOVE sweet almond vanilla drink again the calories add up.

SheepSocks · 12/01/2020 22:27

@fallfallfall where do you buy your turmeric golden mix from? I have something completely different that I bought from a vegan fair.

Thank you for the kind words about the weight loss. I may budget to buy myself some scales for use at home.

I want to try and change my breakfast, at the moment I have two weetabix that I have in warm water. I know it's not everyone's taste! I want to try and make museli, I've looked at the net but can't find anything that doesn't confuse me and blow my mind. Have any of you ladies experimented with making your own?

fallfallfall · 12/01/2020 23:18

i'm in canada and get it at the local vegan/organic/health food market.
so probably not much help.
cookieandkate.com/healthy-granola-recipe/
this recipe looks great, lots of variations, what part of museli or granola confuses you? the oat varieties? or the size quantities (tend to be rather large batches)?

Sekhmetthecat · 12/01/2020 23:38

Busted thanks for the quotes! I could need them next week. Not much seems to be shifting here, but maybe I need to be more patient! Had a great weekend, but diet-wise not that great - saw some old friends and then went to a 40th birthday party, where they had piles and piles of amazingly tasty food which was calling out to me to be eaten. Today was OK though, so hopefully the damage was not too bad.

MrsJones that is impressive, well done!

cherrytree being able to fit into clothes that were too small is great, that feels like a great motivator to me! I have some lovely clothes that are a bit small for me at the moment that I would love to be able to wear. I think if I lost one stone then they would just about fit, but to feel really comfortable I would have to lose two.

Hope everybody has a good week!

BustedDreams · 13/01/2020 06:26

Good Morning All

@fallfallfall I didn’t realise you could get an actual Golden Turmeric drink! When I’ve posted about it, it was a recipe I made:-

Teaspoon ground turmeric
Pinch pepper
Pinch salt
Pinch ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon of coconut oil
Nut milk of choice ... currently almond.

@cherrytree63 well done on your progress! Yes, tmi, transit through the bowel can really slow down. Fibre (Plenty of veg, raspberries, strawberries, apples, water & fat (butter, oil) can help!

Have a good one!

I had a good day yesterday;
B - cereal bar, yoghurt, banana
L - lentil and bacon soup
S - Apple
D - roast chicken, veg and cheesy mash
Bit of chocolate and a tiny nibble of cake for pud

No exercise as went to the gf’s after work. Bit sad, not going to see her for 3 weeks because of my shifts and she’s going to visit family for 2 weeks but I’m going to use that time to really focus on getting into some healthy habits.

Planning to ride the horse this AM then working a late shift.

SunshineCake · 13/01/2020 10:00

I went up slightly but I'm okay with ur as still a loss and it's not a huge amount. Shopping now. Hormonal and child issues but I'll be fine as got lots to do and keeping me busy is a good thing.

Galvantula · 13/01/2020 10:26

I had a good weekend. Still had done nice treats including wine and beer, but I'd bought some salad so I had lighter lunches. Average calories for the week looking a lot better and I'm sitting at 59.0kg, having bounced up to 59.6.

Foreverlexicon · 13/01/2020 10:26

@MrsJonesAndMe I have to admit riding has taken a back seat the last few months with one thing or another but the competition season starts in 6 weeks so it’s all hands on deck now to prepare!

Luckily I’m happiest when I’m busy so I make it work!

SunshineCake · 13/01/2020 12:37

Claiming a win. DD has upset me to a serious degree but I didn't take to chocolate and waited until eating time. Now having homemade soup and sour dough bread.

MrsJonesAndMe · 13/01/2020 13:03

Hi all

Scales stay the same and I've manged to put on size 12 Skinny jeans, so I'm feeling very good smug Wink Keeping at it though! Had a walk this morning. Now looking like rain.

Well done @sunshinecake. Teenagers Hmm Mine was scrabbling around getting loads of stuff ready this morning which I'd asked her to do last night Hmm

Don't think anyone would blame you for not having time @Foreverlexicon. Shifts are the pits!

Great stuff @Galvantula

Oh that doesn't sound nice to me (sorry) @BustedDreams but I'm a bit of a whimp when it comes to spices in sweet things. Like Cinnamon rolls or ginger biscuits Grin

Keep at it @Sekhmetthecat. If the good is in the majority, it will show results. I aim for an 80/20 approach so I can still live my life.

I think early morning in the same spot is key @SheepSocks. I got mine from Dyas and you can set your height and age so it can work out your BMI, but I just jump on it for the reading.

Have a good day!

SunshineCake · 13/01/2020 14:02

Any advice, @MrsJones as she may be acting like a normal 16 year old but I'm not handling it very well. She's rude, ungrateful, goes too far and takes the proverbial

MrsJonesAndMe · 13/01/2020 14:18

You're closer to the end than me then! And no real advice. Can you take something away? phone/money? I occasionally confiscate a phone or screen time generally.

SunshineCake · 13/01/2020 14:31

Could cut the WiFi off but then I suffer too. She wouldn't give me her phone and has little money. Currently I am not giving her a lift tonight and that will really hurt her.

Juliecloud · 13/01/2020 14:45

Can I join in please? I lost loads of weight 2 years ago with Cambridge but I’ve put at least a stone back on. I’m so disappointed in myself. I can’t decide what’s the best way to lose weight now. I’ve done WW in the past and always had success when I’ve stuck to it. I am considering plain old calorie counting. I need something I can stick to.

SunshineCake · 13/01/2020 17:24

Welcome @Juliecloud. I'm doing IF at the minute and having success but I think half the battle is my head is back in the right space. Today I had a very upsetting conversation with DD after she had already upset me last night, I hadn't slept well and was cold. Normally I'd have eaten everything in the house. It wasn't in my eating window so I just waited and then had soup and soda bread. Huge win for me.

blubberball · 13/01/2020 17:43

Well done everyone for sticking with it. I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow to see if I have lost anything since new year. 😬

2020newme · 13/01/2020 17:50

@SunshineCake Honestly teenage girls are hell Grin

Mine is 22 now and she recently said "How did you stand me when I was a teenager? I was such a little bitch!"

They do come back to you, but it takes years time.

My advice is to emotionally detach a bit for your own self preservation. Firm boundaries but don't get caught up in long debates about things. Treat her like an annoying lodger Smile

MrsJonesAndMe · 13/01/2020 18:11

I'm just on episode 1 of 6 about obesity by Jason Fung

Interesting stuff.

Ah well, there you go @SunshineCake. How has the rest of the day's food played out? I've done well (I think) Tomorrow and Wednesday will be my high stress days though.

Hi @Juliecloud also doing 16:8 IF.

Thanks @2020newme It's hard though....but boy yes, I feel sorry for what I put my mum through!

MrsJonesAndMe · 13/01/2020 18:14

Good luck @blubberball

RunningNinja79 · 13/01/2020 19:18

Put on weight this morning. Not impressed, but it is what it is. Hopefully it will come down again tomorrow.

Found this afternoon difficult at one point. Wasn't hungry, I knew I wasn't hungry, but I wanted food. I was tired and doing a really mindless dull task at work. I realised this so managed to resist.

Now DD1 (12 YO) is being really cheeky and horrible. According to MN though this stage will pass eventually. It can't come soon enough. Then will have DD2 (currently 8) going through the nasty hormonal stage Sad

NorthernPowermouse · 13/01/2020 20:00

Well done for resisting @SunshineCake. I’m not sure I’d have been able to do the same. My dd is still a toddler, not looking forward to the teenage years...

I’ve stuck to my window today, apart from a cup of tea (which I think is allowed? I barely have any milk...) Still hungry but hoping a mint tea or two will help.

SunshineCake · 13/01/2020 20:39

DD came to me and asked if we could make up as she didn't like it. She apologised. Throughout the rest of the day there was the odd example of rudeness etc but I pulled her up on it each time and she seems to be getting it.

How do I detach? I have thought about that before but I last about three seconds. My childhood was abusive and neglectful and without parents so I find parenting hard. Thank you @2020newme.

@MrsJonesAndMe I think I did well food wise but think I may have had a mini white Twix mid afternoon but that is fine with me.
