Happy New Year! Here we are! Not just a brand new year but a brand new decade. New decades always feel that bit more significant and life enhancing.

I, like many others, would love to embrace the Twenty Twenties feeling more svelte, toned, healthier & happier. A massive part of that is underpinned by what we eat, when we eat it and why? In turn, how we feel mentally underpins our eating habits. Eating feelings, celebratory meals out, food rewards etc. By being balanced and mindful around food will help us all stay on track.

I know that if I don’t keep on it by setting goals, logging, calorie counting, utilising time restricted eating, and eating a mostly Mediterranean style diet I would gain month on month. Diet and weight loss isn’t a one size fits all. There are so many enjoyable options. Personally If I eat a carb heavy diet I hold not only extra weight but also carry water. My whole silhouette blobs out. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by walking & swimming.

I’m petite in statue, have an under active thyroid (medicated) and every bit of extra weight shows. Previously I allowed myself to get obese but since dropping 20+ lbs I’m no longer in that category. I’m still working on getting my BMI into the ‘normal’ category and this is one of my goals for 2020.

Well my official one week weigh-in this morning was 6lbs. Yeah I will take that! I'm sure most of that was water weight though. With very low carbs I seem to be peeing way more than normal. Blush

Week 2 for me of the Blood Sugar Diet starting today, lets see how it goes. So far I have been pretty good willpower wise. Getting a bit fed up of eating eggs so often though. Eggs are my go to when I'm tired or low on time.

fallfallfall · 08/01/2020 17:13

Yes, I always put bacon in my potato salad. Pretty much expected in these parts sunshine.

SunshineCake · 08/01/2020 17:16

The veggie chilli recipe sounds lovely @SheepSocks are you happy to share the recipe please ? I have two slow cooker recipe books but haven't seen a recipe for a veggie chilli.

SheepSocks · 08/01/2020 17:32

@SunshineCake https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/slow-cookedvegannchilli44057

It's a popular one in our house! I hope you like it.

SunshineCake · 08/01/2020 19:17

Thank you very much @SheepSocks.

2020newme · 08/01/2020 19:26

Starting Weight 12:9
Week 1 12:4 Loss 5lbs Grin

Very happy with this. Had a tuna roll at lunch today and jacket potato with ham salad for dinner so I am under my 1200 MFP target.

Well done losers and keep battling on everyone.

SunshineCake · 08/01/2020 20:47

Very fortuitous that you posted about the chilli recipe, @SheepSocks as my oven has died. Slow cooker tea tomorrow and Friday then new oven is coming.

MrsJonesAndMe · 08/01/2020 21:08

Well done @Lionso and @2020newme

I had 3 meals today and no snacks. Window closed after 7 1/2 hours.

@BustedDreams skin feels smooth, but as I followed the lymph method I saw online, I didn't do bits like elbows and knees which probably needs it most from a exfoliating point Hmm Grin Will work on the regime.

What a pain in the bum @sunshinecake. Our oven died with my nuggets in them at 38 weeks pregnant. I might have cried Nearly a decade on and the trauma is still alive and well Grin

RunningNinja79 · 08/01/2020 21:41

Not a bad day today. Even managed to get myself out swimming. Only spent half an hour in the pool. It was far too busy for my liking. I do enjoy swimming, but I'm not a fan of trying to find space to swim. I shouldn't complain really, everyone else had just as much right to be there as me. Also Im just a new years resolutioner.

Tomorrow night its back to the running club for the first time this year. I've not long had a new job and the hours have been a 5 o'clock finish which has made getting to running club a bit of a rush so I've only gone if I'm down to coach. Next week my hours are changing so I can finish at 4 (I will be starting at half 7 though) so I can go to club both Tuesdays and Thursdays. I'm excited by this.

cherrytree63 · 08/01/2020 23:15

@BustedDreams yes the Lemon Aid is available in the UK,it's mail order and they advertise on Facebook a lot, the company is Zenstra.
After my lovely. sleep I didn't eat until 3pm, and I wasn't very hungry but I knew I'd be eating dinner late and didn't want to get to the shovelling anything down my throat!

annabell22 · 09/01/2020 05:44

Well done @lionso and @2020newme on your fantastic losses!

Down 100g this morning for me, so that's 200g loss in 2020 now, double what it was yesterday!

FrazzledCareerWoman · 09/01/2020 07:18

65.2 this morning from a 65.7 start and a freak 66.6 yesterday! So pleased it's starting to go in the right direction. Stuck to calories yesterday and am getting used to this amount of food. Feeling really good and not bloated at all.
Aiming for half a kilo a week off.

BustedDreams · 09/01/2020 07:19

Good Morning

Yesterday I cleaned & closed the kitchen at 19:00. Cals were over at 1100. I fancied some Greek yoghurt so had some :)

Today’s menu is home made soup for lunch, haggis & veg with mushroom gravy for evening meal.

@Lionso wow. Fab start! 👍

@2020newme. Great loss! 👏

@SunshineCake let us know how the slow cooker chilli goes.

@MrsJonesAndMe

years ago I used to body brush daily. Can’t identify when I got out of the habit. My skin was always soft & smooth. Considering starting up again. I still moisturise daily.

@RunningNinja79 sounds like there are going to be some changes for the better. I always preferred starting my working day earlier in order to finish earlier. I always fitted more in that way.

Thank you @cherrytree63 I’ll look it up.

@annabell22 it'll come off.

There are some really good successes being reported. You ladies are working so conscientiously on your plans for healthy sustainable eating, it’s inspiring!

Well done everyone who’s lost! I had a pretty good day yesterday but out of the office at meetings all day today, with lunch provided, so much more difficult to plan for. Will do my best to make healthy choices though. Have a good day everyone.

SunshineCake · 09/01/2020 11:24

Morning all!

Discovered the chilli takes 8-10 hours on low as I think that will be better than 4-5 iirc on high so I left the house at 6.50am to go get the supplies. Also bought food for two other slow cooker meals. Smelt lovely coming back in after the trip to the vet to the smell. I will not be telling anyone it is vegetarian until someone asks what the meat is. This will be DD before she even tries it.

My oven broke a couple of days before Christmas one year.. from then on we always had a spare element in but this time it isn't the element, wasn't plan b so new oven it is. It is almost 18 years old.

I was up 0.2 lb this morning but I'm still on a loss if I had only weights in the first then toda6 so I'm keeping going. I am assuming then when I feel hungry then fat is getting burnt off?

Lunch will be homemade veg soup with a small amount of homemade potato salad without the mayonnaise.

Sekhmetthecat · 09/01/2020 11:45

Some delicious sounding recipes on here, especially the veggie chilli. Sunshine do you find the slow cooker useful? I have thought about getting one for ages as they sound good. Would you leave it on all day while you are out? I am a bit OCD about switching things off when I go out, but I think other people do leave them on, no?

Busted I MUCH prefer working early hours (my ideal is starting at 7.00 and then finishing early). But alas that is not possible at the moment as I am working shifts. Ah well, has its pros and cons!

SunshineCake · 09/01/2020 12:48

@Sekhmetthecat I have gone out with it in, and did twice this morning, but I don't worry unduly as they are made to be left on a long time, alone. Having said that I would choose to cook longer on a lower heat but that is more because I think it will be a better end result. I have nothing to back that up Grin. I go through stages of using it a lot then don't use it for a month as I forget about it at time. My son used it last week to make rice pudding.

SunshineCake · 09/01/2020 18:54

DH, DS2 and I enjoyed the veggie chilli, especially the sweet potatoes but DD didn't. Not relevant as she likes very little.

MrsJonesAndMe · 09/01/2020 20:40

Hi all 16 1/2hr fast, 9 hours eating - oops!

Hope you've all had a good day.

@BustedDreams maybe you should start up again. I'm going to aim for every other day.

RunningNinja79 · 09/01/2020 21:05

@Sekhmetthecat In my last job I started at 7 and finished at 3. I loved those hours. The best thing was a lie in at the weekend meant getting up at half 7. Im not getting a lie in ATM as Im used to getting up at 7 for a half 8 start.

I had my last 5 o'clock finish today. Looking forward to the earlier hours. No rushing about to get to running club, but not too long that I find it difficult to get back up again.

Back to running club tonight. First time this year. I kept up the rear of the steady run group tonight. I really enjoyed it.

Trying to decide between overnight oats or smoothies for next week's breakfasts. Now Ive at my job for 6 weeks or so I feel like I can be a bit more adventurous with my food.

Weighed myself everyday since the weekend and the scales haven't budged at all. Could be worse. At least its not going up.

BustedDreams · 09/01/2020 21:16

Evening All

Cleaned and closed kitchen19:00. Change of menu as oh wanted beans on toast rather than haggis & veg. I had a Heck sausage cut into small pieces (stir fry quicker) with a nob of butter, kale, s&p and 20 ml cream, rather tasty for a quick meal. Had 4 pieces of no added sugar hazelnut chocolate. First choc of the year but within cal count.

I think I will @MrsJonesAndMe ... do you do it in the shower wet or before when dry?

Hope you’re all keeping warm, it’s turned bitterly cold here. See y’all tomorrow.

nose to the grindstone over here; i'll meet my exercise goals for sure. i'm logging my meals and staying within 11-1300.
my scale/watch/health app continue to show little if any weight change but increased muscle and decreased fat levels.
the quilt is for my 35 year old son who's birthday is coming up, but now i'm onto an adorable little knitting project as i'm off to the uk next month and my grandson loves little v neck vests :) obviously an old soul.
as much as i love my projects they are very sedentary activities. good thing i push myself at the track or on the trails...
yesterdays hike in fresh snow was especially challenging (a good 1.5 hours).

Foreverlexicon · 10/01/2020 05:51

Well all the celebrations are over and done with and I got on the scales to face the music.

All things considered, it’s not terrible but not great either. I’m up about 3lb since before Christmas but overall gained half a stone since August.

I’m going to aim to lose a stone by my birthday towards the end of March. Then I’d finally be back to my ‘normal’ weight and after that I would like to lose another stone to get back to the weight I was when I actually felt good about myself!

Meals today
B - Banana and cereal bar
L - chilli salad
D - omelette and salad
Snacks - grapes and probably some chocolate

I’ve got personal safety training at work today which will involve several hours of kickboxing so that will do for exercise!

fallfallfall · 10/01/2020 06:02

Sounds like a great way to burn off some calories forever
The chili salad sounds great.

MrsJonesAndMe · 10/01/2020 06:20

Morning all

Good stuff @fallfallfall - it is improving your health which is so important.

Good luck @Foreverlexicon that sounds like a good time had and an interesting day Smile

@BustedDreams yes, I am standing in the shower to catch all the dead skin in there Envy and doing it dry before I shower.

This is the video I watched:

(sound quite low, so turn it up) and this one too for anyone else interested.

Tonight will be my 2nd go, so not expecting miracles just yet Wink

Happy Friday all. Walking to school, meeting a friend for coffee and then knuckling down with some paperwork/admin that needs doing. Aiming to have left over cottage pie for lunch and stir fry for tea.
