Happy New Year! Here we are! Not just a brand new year but a brand new decade. New decades always feel that bit more significant and life enhancing.

I, like many others, would love to embrace the Twenty Twenties feeling more svelte, toned, healthier & happier. A massive part of that is underpinned by what we eat, when we eat it and why? In turn, how we feel mentally underpins our eating habits. Eating feelings, celebratory meals out, food rewards etc. By being balanced and mindful around food will help us all stay on track.

I know that if I don’t keep on it by setting goals, logging, calorie counting, utilising time restricted eating, and eating a mostly Mediterranean style diet I would gain month on month. Diet and weight loss isn’t a one size fits all. There are so many enjoyable options. Personally If I eat a carb heavy diet I hold not only extra weight but also carry water. My whole silhouette blobs out. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by walking & swimming.

I’m petite in statue, have an under active thyroid (medicated) and every bit of extra weight shows. Previously I allowed myself to get obese but since dropping 20+ lbs I’m no longer in that category. I’m still working on getting my BMI into the ‘normal’ category and this is one of my goals for 2020.

The previous threads have proved wonderfully supportive and inspiring The ladies on these threads have been awesome and shared some great achievements!

Thanks @BustedDreams, however my gym regime is a long-standing one so I can't blame it for recent disappointments! I think the TRE has helped my waistline but I have no idea why the fat is so determined to stay with me. There will be a whoosh, I would quite like it soon!

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 08/01/2020 07:32

Good Morning!

Today's weigh in has revealed a loss of 4lbs in the first week of Jan. Given I am managing about 100 steps a day post-op at the minute I'm very pleased. I absolutely do not expect to see similar results each week but as I said in an earlier post I am simply trying not to get any bigger whilst in recovery and would have been happy just to maintain.

Loved the losing 20 in 2020 from an earlier poster, it has a great motivational feel to it.

Have a great day everyone!

BustedDreams · 08/01/2020 08:14

So far this year I have lost 1.6lbs. I’m pleased with that.

@BustedDreams well done!
I'm mad 😡 I put on 2lbs
Must be a fluke , maybe it's a lag effect and I just need to keep going
Even more determined to stick to 1200 calories now
I did CrossFit this morning which is good

BustedDreams · 08/01/2020 09:48

Crumbs @FrazzledCareerWoman that must be disappointing for you. I’ve been there! Last year I was gaining when only having 1000 cals or less. I watched & waited for 3 months then went to GP. It was my thyroid! Not saying this is happening for you. Fingers crossed for the next WW (Weighing Wednesday).

@BustedDreams well done. Still just over 3 weeks to go before the end of the month. I'm hoping for a an 8lb loss in total this month. Lost 2.5lbs already so only 5.5lbs to go

cherrytree63 · 08/01/2020 10:14

Morning everyone!
I'm following a lowish carb and 16:8 pattern and being a lot more mindful of when and what I'm eating. (Never mind that up until a couple of weeks ago I was eating 1 or 2 packets of crisps and 2 small bars of chocolate every night Blush).
I try to leave 4 - 6 hours at least in between eating, and some examples of being more aware are;
I prep my salad or fruit and yoghurt about 20/30 mins before eating so it's not fridge temp but I have to watch that I'm not doing "one in my mouth, one on the plate" , not for calorie/ overall amount purposes but to keep any insulin/ sugar spikes more contained to a window.
But what do I do with that chunk of avocado that always sticks to the stone lol!
Also last night I got home at 7pm conscious of my eating window, I was hungry and thirsty, knew if I had a drink I'd then delay eating, so I ate (home made soup) and then didn't have a drink until late.
So I will be more consistent about drinking before I go home (but as my bladder is reminds me whenever there isn't a nearby loo of how old I am that will bring different problems Grin ).
Lastly I'm becoming more aware of the relation between sleep/ cortisol/ appetite.
I'm a chronic insomniac and from time to time I resort to medication (currently Zenstra LemonAid ) .
I've had 2 really bad, worse than normal, nights sleep and woken up ravenous craving carbs, had a banana at about 10 but still feeling sick with hunger I've succumbed to beans on toast and a carb heavy dinner, using all my will power to avoid snacking.
Last night I took my LemonAid (it's main ingredient is lemon balm) mainly because my OH had been a bit of a dick and I do have a habit of stewing over unresolved issues, which affects my sleep, and I've woken up with no hunger whatever after a really good deep sleep.

Sekhmetthecat · 08/01/2020 10:33

Sounds like we have some success stories here, good to hear. And I am sure that something will shift in due course for the others - I am not sure the scales are always the best test anyway. How you feel about yourself and how comfortably clothes fit seem pretty good indicators to me too.
and uneven and I experimented a bit with the scales and found out that depending on where I put them in the room I have either lost or gained a pound. Maybe I should weigh myself once a week at Boots? Or bring the scales downstairs into the kitchen? But then I risk the neighbours catching me in my full glory weighing myself Grin. Ignoring the actual figures, what is good is that I feel so much better about myself - so much of this is psychological it seems. I even bothered to do my nails last night which is a rare thing for me, but made me happy.

I have been keeping to the 16:8 but not eating massively healthily or calorie counting within that window, so that could be something to improve on in due course. But I do not really snack much, so I sort of think that surely it must be OK. Today I am on late shift at work so I will have to see how that maps out with the fasting, but hopefully it will be fine.

Hope everybody has a good day and do not feel too bad if there is no loss today - it will come!

Sekhmetthecat · 08/01/2020 10:54

DrDiva you have my sympathies - my DD was a bedwetter and I felt sleep deprived for years, it is tough! She was just a really deep sleeper and did not wake up. I know not everybody approves of them, but we tried an alarm when she was about 10 or so, and that actually really helped. But I suspect she would have grown out of it at about that age.

MrsJonesAndMe · 08/01/2020 11:20

Hi all

@annabell22 it will come and that's great total for the month anyway! And keep going @FrazzledCareerWoman it will come away eventually.

@BustedDreams not sure if it was that great, but they were some quite extreme examples of people following different things. I think the outcome was to moderate bad things in order to increase health - exactly what I'm aiming for.

Well, I moved my scales a bit and suddenly I was 3Kg lighter this morning Grin Blush Moved it back to the usual spot and I'm at 1.5lbs of the Christmas weight gone. Means I'm happy as that's at my target and aiming to stay around there for the winter. If I did lose another 1lb or 2 I won't complain though!

Will stay on here though to keep me on track! I've walked a couple of miles this morning with the double buggy and still doing yoga every night.

How are you after the batch cooking? Don't do too much @WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa

Sekhmetthecat · 08/01/2020 11:38

MrsJones Grin that is some variance. Why not leave the scales in the new place and delude yourself for a while? A three kg loss is great! We have very dodgy old floorboards in the bathroom (and most of upstairs) and I have been further experimenting this morning and the range the scales give is enormous! But it means that I have no idea now whether my initial weight was accurate. So I will never know whether I lost any weight these past days.

Karcheer · 08/01/2020 12:21

-0.7kg.

However I’d put on +0.7kg in December so back to my end November weight...

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 08/01/2020 12:37

@MrsJonesAndMe, I'm ok, thank you. Luckily I have very long arms and can reach everything from my chair. Today I've made a beautiful chilli that I had for lunch with three portions to be bagged up. I'm making some pork breakfast patties later and my tea will leave leftovers too. Plan and prepare! 😂

Galvantula · 08/01/2020 12:48

Started the year at 59.1 and I'm 59.5kg today.

I've not really been hitting much of a calorie deficit the last few weeks, so I think maintaining-ish is about the best I can expect!

I did well the few weeks before Christmas, just need to get organised again... And try harder to balance out the sweet stuff.

You've reminded me that my scales need new batteries... Must sort that and hope I don't get odd results afterwards Grin

SunshineCake · 08/01/2020 13:02

Hello everyone

I'm tucking into leftovers for lunch while I catch up. While walking the dog I was thinking my jeans felt like they were almost falling down and immediately I thought of everyone on here.

I weighed in at a 1.4 lbs loss for January. Happy with that as off slower is more inclined to stay off. I am feeling hungry in the morning but I am taking that as a positive as I had lost the ability to know when I was genuinely hungry. I acknowledge it, drink water, remind myself to keep busy and my window opens once I have fed my dog Grin.

I was going to walk down a long hill and back up again to do errands but DH has pointed out it is a very busy road and not great for my asthma with all the fumes so I will drive and then go on the exercise bike later while I watch tv.

As I ate all the leftovers I will make a potato salad for dinner but not use mayonnaise. I prefer or with the olive oil, white wine vinegar and mustard dressing with added chives.

SunshineCake · 08/01/2020 13:09

I prefer dressing...

MrsJonesAndMe · 08/01/2020 13:43

@Sekhmetthecat it was indeed a saggy floorboard. I will keep it where it is as I've been going on that since coming back from holiday in July - and lost 12kg. Just keep at it with the scales in the same place.

I've just ordered size 12 jeans @sunshinecake, so lets see what happens! That potato salad sounds delish. I've done a warm one with bacon and a mustardey dressing before.

Time to knuckle down @Galvantula though I'd kill to be as low as you. Guessing you're a bit shorter or petite than me! Mind you in my early twenties I was 58-62kg and very slim.

Good to hear @WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa

Right, off to face the afternoon slog! See you all tonight once I've closed my eating window, done my yoga and tried my dry brushing regime for the first time!

SunshineCake · 08/01/2020 14:49

Bacon! That counts as protein doesn't it? I have some so will do a salad with bacon. Shame I've used all the mushrooms but then they go better with pasta bacon salad than potato salad I would think.

BustedDreams · 08/01/2020 14:56

@MotherOfLittlePeople great loss!

@cherrytree63 I’m a fellow insomniac. Sadly I feel the link between lack of sleep and increased carb cravings gets worse as we get older. Chuck in the leptin & ghrelin hormones and no wonder weight loss becomes increasingly difficult. That sleep aid sounds useful ... is it available in the UK?

@Sekhmetthecat yes I agree. Even digital scales give varying results depending on where they are placed. I changed my digital scale last year as it was giving such inaccurate readings. New scale I was about 10lbs heavier 😯

@MrsJonesAndMe I’m with you on moderating the bad stuff to improve health markets 👍. Magic scales are everywhere! Grin This has all got to become a way of life ... for life. How does your skin feel after the brushing?

@SunshineCake great loss for the 1st week! 🌟

I’ve posted a recipe for Beauty Bars, not that you lovely lot need them ;) . It’s out of Amelia Freer’s book, Simply Good For You. It doesn’t state cals/fat etc but I am going to work it out later and post. They are great as a healthy snack!

Well done @SunshineCake and @BustedDreams on your losses. Send some downward vibes my way, please!

fallfallfall · 08/01/2020 16:33

Well more/ongoing flat lines here when it comes to actual weight. Scale says .2 GAIN.
However my scale also says increased muscle mass and decreased fat...
I do feel great and have improved my stamina. Surely with my logged intake of 1000-1300 max calories AT some point I’ll drop weight.

SheepSocks · 08/01/2020 16:40

I'm also an insomniac, annoying it's got worse since I decided to diet and exercise. I thought it was supposed to get better?!

I'm having veggie chilli later, the slow cooker has living prepared it for me. I'm exhausted today!

SunshineCake · 08/01/2020 17:12

I forgot to cook the bacon. Will it go in a potato salad??
