Happy New Year! Here we are! Not just a brand new year but a brand new decade. New decades always feel that bit more significant and life enhancing.

I, like many others, would love to embrace the Twenty Twenties feeling more svelte, toned, healthier & happier. A massive part of that is underpinned by what we eat, when we eat it and why? In turn, how we feel mentally underpins our eating habits. Eating feelings, celebratory meals out, food rewards etc. By being balanced and mindful around food will help us all stay on track.

I know that if I don’t keep on it by setting goals, logging, calorie counting, utilising time restricted eating, and eating a mostly Mediterranean style diet I would gain month on month. Diet and weight loss isn’t a one size fits all. There are so many enjoyable options. Personally If I eat a carb heavy diet I hold not only extra weight but also carry water. My whole silhouette blobs out. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by walking & swimming.

I’m petite in statue, have an under active thyroid (medicated) and every bit of extra weight shows. Previously I allowed myself to get obese but since dropping 20+ lbs I’m no longer in that category. I’m still working on getting my BMI into the ‘normal’ category and this is one of my goals for 2020.

The previous threads have proved wonderfully supportive and inspiring The ladies on these threads have been awesome and shared some great achievements!

Hi chaps
Back to work today which was thoroughly depressing! Managed to stick to my lazy IF / MFP plan though which is essentially eating no breakfast, and roughly the same sort of thing again and again so I don't need to keep looking it up

Breakfast
1 scoop Protein powder (vegan) with water
Coffee with oat milk

Lunch
Chicken with brown rice, roast cauliflower, and kale and avocado salad

Dinner
Varies - tonight I'm having a 1 slice of bread bacon sandwich with 3 rashers and ketchup (carefully portioned due to trying to stick to calories!! Dinner is where I get hungry and fail)
Otherwise it's a wrap with veggies or eggs and avo on toast

Total 1200 calories.

SunshineCake · 06/01/2020 18:41

I can't face the bike but I know it is good for me. Barely had any dinner as the soup wasn't nice. Was lovely the day I made it and the day after but I think now it has been too many days. Can't think what to eat now. I will go on the bike, might give me an appetite.

JBCG · 06/01/2020 19:07

I managed my first day back at work with no snacking and sticking to my prepped meals! Walked the 20 minutes to work (downhill) and the 30 minutes from work (uphill) and about to head off to the gym although I feel my legs are already not as sturdy as they should be due to my walk (I'm so unfit 🤦🏻‍♀️).

A quick question though, if I'm working out in the evenings, is it better to eat before or after? By the time I get home tonight and cook, it'll be about 9pm! But if I eat before, I'd have to eat at like 430pm (take it to work) as I leave work at 5 and them am on baby duty. I've always read that it's bad to eat too late but just think I'd be starving if I ate dinner at 430! Any advice or suggestions very welcome!

FrazzledCareerWoman · 06/01/2020 19:13

@JBCG it doesn't make any difference what time you eat as long as you are in an overall calorie deficit. Follow James smith PT on insta for straight talking myth debunking fitness (he is quite hot as well)

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 06/01/2020 19:15

Evening all,

I've had my first physio today, it's left me in a bit more pain than usual but the side effect is that I've had minimal appetite. 👍🏻

I've started my batch cooking today though and have a meal plan for the week, although this may change as it's my Mums birthday and she may want to go out.

Really tired today after several restless nights so am thinking an early night and no chance of snacking then.

Have a great evening all. 😊

ilovetrees30 · 06/01/2020 19:27

Well I have ended the day on a few more calories than I wanted at 1511 but I have banked 801 with my exercise today so not the best day but not bad by any stretch!

BustedDreams · 06/01/2020 19:41

Trees & trimmings are down and packed away. Big clean on the cards tomorrow... can’t start today as back is now killing me. Kitchen cleaned and closed at 18:45pm. Ate around 1150 cals which is over but have done a lot of activity today. Absolutely shattered so early night for me.

@ilovetrees30 great cal burn on exercise!

@WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa hope you’re not in too much pain. What did you batch cook.

@FrazzledCareerWoman looked up James Smith PT on insta but couldn’t find him.

@Lionso well done on your loss.

Off to bath, then bed. See you all tomorrow Grin

Ive had a day today. MIL was taken into hospital this morning. I find out on the way to work so queue me spending half my journey parked up making random phone calls while DH found out what was going on. She's out now with some medication.

Then while I was flicking through her facebook to try to contact another family member I saw a profile of DD1. Looking at the profile I know it's not DD1. She would never chose that picture and facebook is for old people apparently. Plus the friends are not people she'd be friends with. Queue me getting really worked up because Facebook are refusing to believe me (and my friends) when we reported the page so the profile is still there. I have found other routes to report so fingers crossed.

Due to all this I didn't manage to get to the shop for different green tea today. Hopefully tomorrow. Not had a too bad a day foodwise, but have had much better though. Need to get more serious about it. I have found it difficult today though. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day.

2020newme · 06/01/2020 20:08

First day back at work today. Didn't eat any of the free biscuits and also spent my whole lunch break (30 minutes) walking around the local park.

IF still going well.

What day are we all doing like a group weekly weigh in? Is it Wednesday?

Sekhmetthecat · 06/01/2020 20:28

Being back at work today was not as bad as anticipated. I spent the first ten minutes or so at work hidden away in a remote kitchen enjoying a quiet cup of tea, and then work just took over and the day passed quickly. I kept to the 16:8 so all is well. I have not weighed myself since starting, but after four or five days of fasting I actually feel really good - less bloated than over the holidays and I have not had any cravings.

I guess it is OK to have the odd cup of tea/coffee with milk outside hours in the 16:8 fasting pattern? Not sure I can face giving up my morning tea...

MrsJonesAndMe · 06/01/2020 21:04

Hi all, so many posts that I am struggling to keep up with combined with a bad memory for names Blush Sorry, I do read them all.

How are you doing @SunshineCake now? Enjoy your bath and bed @BustedDreams

I'm sticking to 16:8 but ate quite badly today as a bad night's sleep. I'm hungry now, but there you go...

SheepSocks · 06/01/2020 21:14

Thank you @BustedDreams I will have a read of that.

@RunningNinja sorry you have had such a stressful day! I hate social media, a young cousin of mine posted an ill advised photo of herself to Instagram and despite several family members reporting it, the powers that be wouldn't take it down despite the fact she was a minor because she had lied about her age at sign up Hmm

I could cry, I got in the fancy pants scales at the gym, it made me even heavier than I thought I was. I've eaten good healthy food today, walked 10k steps and did a 45min work out at the gym.

Fingers crossed that if I keep it up the weight will disperse soon.

Karcheer · 06/01/2020 21:23

do we do an official weigh in day?

NorthernPowermouse · 06/01/2020 21:33

It will Sheep.

I’m hungry tonight. Been prepping tomorrow’s food and the temptation to eat huge chunks of cheese with the onion I was chopping was hard to resist. Stuck to my eating window though and making do with a herbal tea.

Cath2907 · 06/01/2020 21:50

I’m back on a very old bandwagon. Did my first diet at age 25, again at 30, then at 35. Now 42! It takes me 6 - 12 months to lose the weight (always the same 20kg

Cath2907 · 06/01/2020 21:55

Oops, pressed too soon! Started on 28th Dec at 78.5kg. My target is 60. I do the same diet each time. More protein, eggs, lean meat and veg. No processed food, low carb, low alcohol, very few indulgences. Lots of low impact walking, some dancercise, basic sit ups and home toning. Replace lots of my beloved coffee with herbal tea.

First few weeks is always rough, by 4 to 6 weeks in I will feel better, the last half stone will be shit hard to shift.

Currently feeling a bit crap and hungry and grumpy but already down to 76.5kg so I know it will be worth it.

I’d really like a bag of chips though :(

KurriKawari · 06/01/2020 22:12

Hi I want to join in!
Last time I weighed myself a few months ago I was 66kg, will see if I can weight myself again soon. Whilst I seem slim I have a sticking out stomach that makes me look a few months pregnant. I am turning 40 this month and am finding myself get tired more easily so want to work on my fitness levels.

I used to go to a gym next to DD school but now she's at a different school and with working full time and being a single parent its hard to find the time. I've signed up to the free version of the 30 day challenge app and am actually enjoying it. Going to stick with it as its quick exercise but gets steadily harder and seeing the days ticked off the calendar really motivates me! Hoping to have a flatter stomach.

I have also meal planned for the week, did my online grocery shop which will be here tomorow. Not following any specific diet as I get overwhelmed by syns and colours and counting stuff- I have really bad anxiety. Am drinking more. Snacks are fruit, cucumber sticks, plain yoghurt. Breakfast in weetabix, overnight oats or a smoothie.
Lunch is salad, soup or leftovers. Meals this week (taken from Pinch of Nom) are:
Baked spaghetti with chicken
Fish fingers and veg
Chicken shawarma wrap with salad
Lasagne
Salmon and asparagus pasta

Will batch cook the chicken and lasagna. Some days I do 12 hour shifts so I can come home and not have to cook. Ordered some reusable boxes from ebay which should arrive Thursday.

I need to find something on the days I go to head office twice a week. Am not a fan of sandwiches and end up buying overpriced salads. Needs to be something that transports well, 2.5 hours journey.

Looking forward to sharing and hearing about other people's experiences.

Weekday28 · 07/01/2020 06:10

I have weighed in at 10.12 this morning which is a 1lb loss this week. I'm happy with that as I font usually lose when I'm on my period.

I have a new exercise class tonight, so nervous!

Have a good day all x

Galvantula · 07/01/2020 07:16

Morning all.

Had a bit of an upwards blip, I guess TOTM and more treats than usual last week or so.

Back down today to 59.3kg and first full week at work means I'm not at home looking at the cupboard full of chocolate Grin

I'm still on MFP just ticking along. Trying to be more in control by making sure I pack my lunch before bed, something I've always been awful at.

BustedDreams · 07/01/2020 08:36

Morning Ladies ... a week into 2020 already 😯

Loss to date for 2020 is 1.5lbs. I’m hoping that sticks rather than yoyoing!

For the people who have been asking about IF and what to have outside the eating window I’ve posted a pic. Just remember you still need to be mindful of quantity/quality of food and be creating a deficit.

Today’s menu is roast parsnip soup with a hint of horseradish. Chicken, salad & veg later. Perhaps celery, apple, nuts if cals too low. White tea and 1 coffee. Water.

@RunningNinja79 hope mil is ok and you sort fb out.

@FrazzledCareerWoman thank you, got him now.

@2020newme you can post your weight/progress any day/every day. I posted yesterday (I posted yesterday as for months Monday has been my main posting weight day and because I’d been away a couple of days but still lost). I’ll post tomorrow too as that’s a true week from 1st. Long winded answer but yes Wednesday would make sense Grin

@Sekhmetthecat there are debates around what you can have outside the eating window. I do have milk in my tea. Can’t drink tea without it. My coffee with cream usually falls in the window anyway. I’d say do what works for you if it keeps everything else on track.

@MrsJonesAndMe me you both. My memory is poor in relation to what it was. Yes my bath was lovely but didn’t get much sleep as oh has residual breathing issues from his bout of flu so sounds like a train! So much so he triggered Alexa who I had to switch of at wall.

@SheepSocks don’t panic or become despondent. The scales might be calibrated different to yours. I find it best to weight first thing in the morning (naked, which you can’t do at gym Grin, after I’ve been to the loo but before anything to eat or drink. Only weight on one set of scales so you get a consistent measure. Well done on your exercise !

@Cath2907 a warm welcome. Good plan! Great support to be had on this thread. You’ll soon lose the cravings with the clean eating that you've planned.

Warm welcome @KurriKawari. You sound like a very busy lady! I second Pinch of Nom recipes. All worked out and rather tasty. Keep reading and posting, you’ll soon make some progress with the support on this thread.

@Weekday28 well done and hope the class goes well.

Morning @Galvantula prepping lunch is a good idea! Will save money too.

The general consensus is for a Wednesday Weigh in. Has a certain ring to it. Our very own WW day. Don’t feel pressured to post if you don’t want to.

Right I’m off to do the house clean of the decade. Have a good one ad what ever you are doing, do it with gusto!

@RunningNinja79 how is your MIL now?

(@2020newme* well done on your ignoring the biscuits and walking.

Will read more later because
I'm two minutes from needing to leave for an appointment so just a quick hello.

Not feeling great today @MrsJonesAndMe but that's partly to do with my appointment. I'll be better in a few hours once it's over and I'm home with my dog.

Same weight today as yesterday which was a bit of a kick in the guts but then I reminded myself that things don't change in 24 hours so the low calorie intake yesterday will show up on Thursday (it better!!) and at least I didn't go up.

Since 31st December if I hadn't weighed this morning I'd be claiming a 1.2lb loss.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 07/01/2020 09:38

Ohh a Wednesday Weigh-In suits me. 👍🏻

@Busted - yesterday I made a massive vat of veg sauce. Butternut squash, sundried tomatoes, carrots, peppers, cauliflower, onions etc. I use it as a base - it started as a way of getting veg into a pasta bake for my youngest but now I use it in all sorts - today it has gone in my slow cooker curry and will go in my chilli. Anything I don't plan to use I freeze. It makes a nice soup too!

BustedDreams · 07/01/2020 10:31

@WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa that sounds delicious 😋 Excellent way to get it into the children too.

SunshineCake · 07/01/2020 12:47

@KurriKawari hello. I'm interested in the app but there is a few, could you link to a photo of the app you are using please ? Last year I was unexpectedly out for 12 hours but I had packed leftovers. This happened three days running with me coming home to sleep and what travelled well was potato salad and a pasta dish with tomatoes, corn, cheese, mushrooms and courgettes. Both fine cold and I made them last so not great for the 18:6 way of eating but suited me then. Also, could you be intolerant to some foods? I looked eight months pregnant for a long time and that has gone since I gave up the food I discovered I was intolerant to.

Well done on your loss @Weekday28.

That pic is very helpful, @BustedDreams thank you.
