Happy New Year! Here we are! Not just a brand new year but a brand new decade. New decades always feel that bit more significant and life enhancing.

I, like many others, would love to embrace the Twenty Twenties feeling more svelte, toned, healthier & happier. A massive part of that is underpinned by what we eat, when we eat it and why? In turn, how we feel mentally underpins our eating habits. Eating feelings, celebratory meals out, food rewards etc. By being balanced and mindful around food will help us all stay on track.

I know that if I don’t keep on it by setting goals, logging, calorie counting, utilising time restricted eating, and eating a mostly Mediterranean style diet I would gain month on month. Diet and weight loss isn’t a one size fits all. There are so many enjoyable options. Personally If I eat a carb heavy diet I hold not only extra weight but also carry water. My whole silhouette blobs out. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by walking & swimming.

I’m petite in statue, have an under active thyroid (medicated) and every bit of extra weight shows. Previously I allowed myself to get obese but since dropping 20+ lbs I’m no longer in that category. I’m still working on getting my BMI into the ‘normal’ category and this is one of my goals for 2020.

The previous threads have proved wonderfully supportive and inspiring The ladies on these threads have been awesome and shared some great achievements!

fallfallfall that looks beautiful. Today has been OK, skipped breakfast and had a late lunch (pizza and some leftover lentil soup) and am about to have a latish dinner made by my teenagers (home-made potato wedges and beans). Can't be bothered to count calories, but surely with only two meals it should be fine.

However, I braved the gym today. It was truly dreadful. For one, they have rearranged the running machines so that you face a mirror - why, just why? Do people really want to watch themselves on the running machines? And all the weight apparatus thingeys were different and I am sure they have added several kilos to even the lowest setting - on one of them I could not lift even the lowest weight. Not sure the gym is for me.

SunshineCake · 04/01/2020 21:49

I'm definitely going to try that drink, @fallfallfall and see if it stops me wanting chocolate as even though I'm doing well in that regard, fluid is always better than solid, I think.

I haven't used MFP this time @FrazzledCareerWoman but when I used the Lose it! app I enjoyed the down dips but I can't face weighing everything I eat so I'm just writing the weights down. I am glad I have as didn't realise I was down.

I am doing so much better re not eating stuff I'm intolerant to, @MrsJonesAndMe but if I am going to I take a digestive tablet first. I feel though the weigh loss is because I'm eating just the two meals and more mindfully as a 70/30 split with cutting out intolerance triggers.

I had two ladles of my soup today and still don't know why I finished it all when 1.5 was enough. I suppose trying to make sure I lasted until dinner.

cherrytree63 · 05/01/2020 01:18

@SheepSocks my sugar cravings rocket when I have a carb heavy meal or a ready meal.
I had the cravings Friday night, this evening I had two eggs on toast (I'm trying to avoid bread but I wasn't prepared and wanted something quick) I find eggs quite filling and no after cravings.
The other thing I do is put loads of fruit on the coffee table and pick at that.
Really bugs me that a 6 pack of crisps and two small chocolate bars costs £1.98 and a small punnet of fruit is £2 in my local Co-op though.

Weekday28 · 05/01/2020 05:54

Had a bit of a rubbish day yesterday. Meal wise was fine but I snacked on the last of the xmas chocolate laying around. I'm always a bit rubbish at the weekend though. Will try better today not too snack.

MrsJonesAndMe · 05/01/2020 07:32

Good plan @SunshineCake and @SheepSocks I'm sure the toddler won't mind.

Oh yes, the cravings are absolutely linked - the more I eat, the more I want...but I don't want to cut completely as I don't think that's manageable in the long run either.

I wasn't hungry last night till I got into bed, so getting used to it (fasting) again after less than a week.

Hope you all have a good Sunday. We're off out later this morning and I'm planning a roast with nice veggies for tea.

annabell22 · 05/01/2020 09:56

I am pleased to report that after 5 days the scales finally moved - but they freaking went up!! Maybe it was the 5.30am weigh in, haven't had one of those in a few weeks. It certainly wasn't due to overeating.

NorthernPowermouse · 05/01/2020 11:40

@fallfallfall that looks stunning.

The chocolate tea looks lovely. Said it was all sold out when I tried to buy some - can you get it anywhere else?

I made it to junior parkrun this morning, nearly killed me. Had bacon and eggs afterwards, now nothing til my shepherd’s pie for tea (at least that’s the plan...) Strawberries for dessert.

Will also try to get out with the kids later. Have a good day everyone!

SunshineCake · 05/01/2020 11:59

Morning all. I am delighted to report a pound down this morning so I'm inspired to keep going. This year will be the year I go into 11 stone.

This morning I woke up hungry and with a lie in and walk with the dog I am able to wait until lunch at 1 but I'm wondering with the IF if fruit would have been okay this morning ?

RunningNinja79 · 05/01/2020 12:15

Morning everyone.

Not doing too well ATM, had some crisps late last night and DH suggested going out for breakfast so we had an all you can eat, though I probably wont eat much now till tea which is roast. It will be fine. Will probably get out later, not sure if Im running or walking just yet though. Can't really be bothered, but I'll be bored if I dont do something. So I may as well. It will hopefully burn off some of that breakfast I had.

Back to IF tonight though.

ilovetrees30 · 05/01/2020 12:38

Well done all for the losses. I haven't lost this week but starting tomorrow properly with food diary and meal plans. Why is it that cooking from scratch is so much more expensive than junk food!!

2020newme · 05/01/2020 15:02

Sunshine

No - you can't have fruit when you should be fasting. To be honest I don't eat fruit at all when I am dieting as it's full of sugar.

I sometimes cheat by having a splash of milk in my tea but that is it Sad

SunshineCake · 05/01/2020 15:15

Thank you @2020newme I thought that. It would have been grapes I had.

We had duck roulade at lunchtime with lots of veg and then Christmas pudding and baileys cream. I'm not worried about calories. For me today is about a nice lunch before DS1 goes back to uni tomorrow and sticking to two meals.

dottydolly72 · 05/01/2020 15:55

Didn't weigh in this morning but to be fair I'm not really back on it until Tuesday once the children are back at school. I have however been alcohol free since 1st Jan so all is not lost lol. I feel so sluggish and cannot wait to get back into the gym!! The two go hand in hand for me, feeling positive for Tuesday 👊

MrsJonesAndMe · 05/01/2020 16:04

Well done @SunshineCake and sorry to hear that @annabell22 the timing certainly could be causing an issue.

Keep at it all of you!

Bit of a strange one due to timings, so I've had a small piece of quiche, a large piece of flapjack, a chunk of Tolberone and now just waiting for our roast to finish cooking. I was exactly at my target weight this morning, but not my lowest of last year. Another lb to get back there... Hopefully getting back into routine will be the kick I need.

Did yoga last night which hurts today Blush thighs, stomach and shoulders all sore!

Hope you survived your weekend @BustedDreams despite the food sounding awful!

NorthernPowermouse · 05/01/2020 16:29

MFP question - how does it calculate the calories lost by the number of steps you do? Because a few days ago I did about 4,000 and lost 57....today it’s more than 9,000 and I’ve lost 51...

Yesterday it said no calories despite 5,000 steps. Wtf?

fallfallfall · 05/01/2020 17:13

northern I’m not sure how it does that but my elliptical calories burned is based solely on weight and my Apple watch takes heart rate into consideration. So a faster pace with incline for cardio burns more than a stroll.
I’m sadly showing a slight gain, my graphs seem to think muscle mass is down, fat up and hydration down. I’m being so friggin good and it’s not shifted :(.

Mumski45 · 05/01/2020 17:23

Another good morning on the scales today with a further 0.8lb down. Surely this water loss will stop soon and I am fully expecting to go up again for a few days. I'm on my 5th day and that's 3.6lb of 'something' down. I'm feeling better emotionally but am tired through trying to carry on with exercise whilst restricting calories.

Had a good bike ride this morning and did about 5m more than expected so having a small portion of Camembert as a treat tonight.

Good luck to all who are hoping to get going again when kids are back at school. I find it hard when we are all at home as it's so easy to access snacks and leftovers.

SunshineCake · 05/01/2020 17:46

I'm in shock that I have had another day where I haven't eaten between lunch and yet to have dinner and even more in shock that when dh asked what I wanted for dinner then came in with food for him and not me I didn't stress. I had said if I was to eat now I would want....and assumed he'd feed me.

I have had years of food issues that I'm sure you don't need to hear but this is big for me.

This afternoon I got a bit jumpy about not going out so took ddog out for a 45-50 minute walk including some uphill then did 20 minutes on the exercise bike. Dh did 10km in the same time that I did 7.4 but I did catch up as was way behind at 17 minutes. I'm quite competitive with him so this could be an issue. I decided to stop once I started to feel sick.

riotlady · 05/01/2020 19:11

Evening :)
I’ve been rather lax so far as struck with a horrible head cold so haven’t been exercising or eating great. Today hasn’t been too bad though, veggie pasta bake for lunch and bean burgers for tea.

To everyone that’s weighing daily, i would totally recommend the Happy Scale app. It calculates a moving ten day average so that random increases don’t look so scary, and it predicts when you’ll hit certain weights based on your weight loss rate so far. I love it!

NorthernPowermouse · 05/01/2020 19:14

@fallfallfall I don’t have an apple watch or Fitbit...I think it’s just going off how far the phone moves. And while I can see it could be clever enough to do gradients etc the number I’m getting appear completely random. I think this is why I gave up on it last time. But if I just use it to keep me on track with calories rather than logging exercise that might be better.

Don’t you lose heart though; if you’re gaining muscle that’s good. I’m sure the scales will fall into line soon...

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 05/01/2020 19:26

Evening all, hope the weekend has been kind to you.

I've had a bit of a setback in my recovery and I'm back to being unable to put any weight on my leg. 😩 In view of that I've made a real concerted effort with my diet. I had some slimming world meals delivered yesterday for ease and I have a big big healthy shop coming tomorrow and I plan on batch cooking this week with my mums help.

My first weigh in is on Weds and I would be happy just to be maintaining whilst I'm so bloody stationary. 🙄

All the best everyone.

SunshineCake · 05/01/2020 19:35

@riotlady funnily enough I googled and got Scale happy as a suggestion so have downloaded that just now.

DrDiva · 05/01/2020 19:42

Hello all, I’m enjoying the chat but not much to add at the moment. However, tomorrow I plan to be back in things as am back at work - DS back at school on Tuesday. So back to routine which will help a lot. Am planning OMAD. So much easier at work where I am too busy to eat anyway!! Grin

JBCG · 05/01/2020 19:49

Evening everyone. I've been a bit radio silent the last few days as I've been enjoying my last week of maternity leave! I enjoyed it a bit too much in terms of junk food so it definitely shows I can't be left unattended (away from this group!)

I start work tomorrow and the meal prep has commenced! I've got overnight oats for breakfast and a salmon&feta salad for lunch. Dinner is chicken with roasted veg so I'm hoping that my week starts off well. I'm also back to the gym tomorrow night after taking the Christmas period off so I'm really hoping I can stick to this to get to my 4st loss!!

Hope you are all well and I will try to be more present in the thread because I know the support we all can give is invaluable!

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 05/01/2020 19:55

Oh, and I've been re-watching Secret Eaters, that was on a few years ago - I've found it really useful and recognised some bad habits. It's on Amazon Prime if anyone's interested. 😊
