Well done Yorkiegirl, I so want to get into those "normal size" clothes. Think you're doing brilliantly.

Blimey, been away for nearly 2 days but feels like a lot longer with all the posts. Welcome all you other LTS newbies and well done to all who have lost weight, especially Bran cos you give us all a good kicking enough times, and Yorkiegirl - I too am .

Miam - it's all about being in it for the long haul really I think - that and the fact we are going to be the slinkiest posters come next year of course - well my aim is to be a lot fitter and enjoy clothes shopping.

And it's interesting to hear that other people have that lovely 'apron tummy' as well - I can fashion my into lovely shapes like one of those balloon artists, but that's tmi now isn't it! Has anyone ever got rid of theirs totally through diet and exercise?

I made some Halloween biscuits with dd1 today and only had a half one to test if they were done - and I refused a choccy treat - I'm on a roll! I know I've lost weight but may post it on a Monday/Tuesday if that's what others are doing??

champs · 29/10/2004 00:31

welcome miam and yorkie!!
bran-- well done you have had such a good weight loss record these past weeks keep it up.

monkeygirl-- apron tummy?? mine's more like tummies

got a huge box of chocs yesturday as a gift, and it is soooo weird not eating choc anymore. It really is amazing. I used to be hooked on the stuff, ate loads of it. I can t comprehend the fact that I dont eat it, it is almost make me tearful as i think back to the way I ate it and that I dont even crave it any more, it makes me feel that i can one day be the slim person I want to be. (will stop now as I seem to have got a bit soppy--again!!)

miam · 29/10/2004 08:44

I've lost half a stone this week!!!!!!! All thanks to Atkins - he is my hero. I could kiss him. Oh, he is dead I think, so possibly I wont kiss him. But if I could, I would!! (Posted this on one of the other threads by mistake, so have just pasted it again - lazy I know, but so pleased)

LunarSea · 29/10/2004 11:36

Well if everyone else from BigMamas is joining in here, I guess I'd better do it too as I'm likely to be doing this for a while yet. 67lbs down so far (in just under 6 months), 33 still to go, which will proably take as long again.

I'm (fairly loosely) doing South Beach, but have also discovered that wheat is a big trigger for me, so I'm trying to avoid that totally. I can't resist the occasional nice cheese though, which isn't really on the South Beach allowed list. Puff - South Beach uses GI as it's basis, and also looks at "good" fats (e.g. Olive Oil, fish oils) rahter than bad ones, so it sounds fairly similar to what you're doing.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 29/10/2004 11:39

ooh, well done miam.

I'm not expecting to lose weight this week - am going out tonight and Sunday for meals - ( suddenly seem to have a social life}.

However, I still want to be sensible when I'm out - some tips please for having a nice time but not eating/drinking the equivalent of your own body weight cos you are overexcited and throwing caution to the wind cos you are ON A NIGHT OUT.

I've thought of one already - I will drive so no drinking (I'm not a big drinker these days anyway) so that saved the 600 or so calories in a bottle of wine!

PuffTheMagicDragon · 29/10/2004 11:40

Crikey, is there ANOTHER thread I can join?

Didn't know about Big Mamas - going to introduce myself.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 29/10/2004 11:45

LunarSea - wow - you have done SO well in 6 months. I've lost approx 30lbs so far and have 70lbs to go to get to my pre children weight. Was hoping to crack this by next May when I'll be 40. Your success gives me hope .

LunarSea · 29/10/2004 11:53

Hey Puff - I'll be (uh hum) 40 next year too, and am hoping to get this cracked before then (am determined that at 40 I'm going to be lighter than I have been at any time in the previous 1/4 century!). I've got 4 or 5 months longer to get there than you though - good luck!

monkeygirl · 29/10/2004 11:56

Blimey LunarSea - that is brilliant - well done. I didn't know there was so many pounds being shed by mn'ers so I'd better pull my socks up or I'll be left even more behind. Think I'll also work out how many pounds I've got to lose as it just looks so much more impressive!

Puff - not drinking really does help I guess - but are you worried more about breaking your diet rules (ie will you eat the bread etc if it's there) or just not eating portions that are too big? What kind of restaurant is it?

PuffTheMagicDragon · 29/10/2004 12:11

Both meals are in poshish restaurants that do pretty but not too substantial stuff on plates, so I was hoping to choose wisely, steer clear of creamy sauces (and the lovely bread ).

Its not having a pudding that I will find really hard. I miss chocolate sooo much.

LunarSea · 29/10/2004 12:15

Puff - on SouthBeach you are allowed chocolate! Only dark chocolate, and only in moderation but you ARE allowed it! Try making strawberies or grapes dipped in dark chocolate. Yummy and not too naughty even in calorie terms.

monkeygirl · 29/10/2004 12:19

Yes bread is a problem isn't it. Ask them to take it away or get whoever is with you to put it next to them far from your reach? Yes no creamy sauces (we will know you know ) and perhaps you could ask them not to put butter on the veg. Could you compromise and share a naughty pudding? I know it doesn't always cut it but there's that old dieter's friend the sorbet or just one scoop of ice-cream with a fruit salad? I would probably try and just have very little in the day and go for an extra long walk or gym session Saturday/Sunday morning in order to be able to eat a little extra tbh. Good luck, you've done so well anyway so far that I'm sure you won't sabotage all your good work anyway.

bran · 29/10/2004 18:23

Puff, I should have been asking that very question yesterday. I went to the most fabulous italian restaurant last night and had a really good time, but when I added up my points I'd eaten 43 in the whole day (I'm allowed 26). It was delicious though, in Limehouse if anyone's based in East London. The actual food wasn't all that bad (calorie-wise, it was wonderful taste-wise), I had figs and parma ham to start and then grilled calamari and one profiterole from someone else's dessert. It was the drink points that really stacked up, I reckon I drank about 12 points, but it's hard to tell because the wine glasses were very big and the waiters kept topping it up so I couldn't count exactly how much I was having.

So get your whips out, and if you see me on Mumsnet tonight tell me to go and do an exercise video, and keep whipping and kicking until I do.

(I really don't regret it though, I had so much fun and flirted like I was a teenager again )

PuffTheMagicDragon · 29/10/2004 18:35

Bran - that meal sounds yum. I ADORE parma ham and figs.

I've just had a small bowl of porridge today, plus a banana and two peaches, so hopefully there's room for manoeuvre!

Sorbet for pud sounds good. Actually, its also the cheeseboard that's my downfall, and of course the glass or two of port to wash it down. However, as I'm driving I can resist the cheese as I can't have the port!

monkeygirl · 29/10/2004 21:18

Bran - save the exercise for tomorrow but you must get up half an hour early at least and move your butt, ok! Oh just a few ruler slaps then, cos you feel alright about it, and that is the most important thing. And flirting, eh? Are you single and available or just being very very naughty?? (Sadly I meet very few nice men to flirt with now, but do have my eye on the yummy postman).

Feeling virtuous tonight - don't know why as I'm on my third glass of wine already - but we talked about and did not have a chinese! God, but Friday nights are tough as I've been 'marking the start of the weekend' since I can remember. I've got so many of you to keep up with now though!

jnbsmum · 29/10/2004 21:35

Can i say hello and join you on here. I posted a couple of months back but didn't really do anything about loosing weight. (Had quite a few problems). I'm now out of hospital and i'm on my second week at ww. I lost 5 1/2 lbs in the first week and i'm really posotive about this at the moment. Would like to join you guys cause i think if io fall back one or two of you will start cracking those whips and knock me back into line.

monkeygirl · 29/10/2004 21:38

Hello and welcome! This is turning out to be the Very Successful Thread so we can't fail! You've got off to an excellent start, which is always key, so good luck with carrying it on (and pass on some of those positive vibes!)

jnbsmum · 29/10/2004 21:46

I think i must be feeling posotive and good still. Tonight my dh has gone out (quite rare as he always stays home with me awwww) And i've got a box of choccys in the fridge. I was so tempted to eat them all but i just thought nooooooooo. Ive still got at least 5 stone to lose. A box of chocs is not good.
How did i mange to resist them?????????

monkeygirl · 29/10/2004 21:55

Especially cold chocs - dribble dribble. Oh yes resist - if it was me I couldn't even have one cos it would never be enough. I've got at least 6 stone to lose but luckily no choc in the house. What diet are you doing?

jnbsmum · 29/10/2004 22:00

weight watchers. I did slimming world a couple of years ago and i really couldnt get into. I cook all the meals in my house and dh is one of those skinny guys who don't put weight on. With sw i was cooking veggie meals all the time and he moaned. With ww i'm eating like a pig myself and so far the weights dropping off. And he's happy that hes getting real meals.
What are you doing?

monkeygirl · 29/10/2004 22:07

Hopefully it won't be my downfall but I'm kind of making it up as I go along, trying to cut back on carbs and pretty much go cold turkey on sweet things now (I've been thinking about it constantly but only finally managed to start cutting back properly this Monday). I'm also trying to exercise more because basically I've got to expect that I love my food!

I think there's a few people doing WW on here and also lots of good butt kickers. Hope they're not all out in those fancy restaurants that were mentioned earlier eating creamy sauces and death by choc puddings.

monkeygirl · 29/10/2004 22:08

i mean except!
