Link to previous thread here: Half a stone (or 3kg) off for August!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3652424-half-a-stone-or-3kg-off-for-august

Morning all! Welcome to the half a stone loss challenge for September. All are welcome whatever plan or method you are following. I'm mainly following ww online with some intermittent fasting thrown in for good measure!

All I ask is that we continue the uplifting positivity and support seen on previous threads! We cheerlead each other, celebrate success and support through the harder times.

We had a great month in August with lots of losses. I don't know about you lot but the longer this goes on the more it feels like a way of life for me now rather than "being on a diet"?

Stats for me are:
Starting weight: 19st 13
Loss for August: 14lbs
Loss for 2019: 5 st 3lbs
Target for September: 10lbs off

Ready for September??

❤️❤️

RARRRR back up to 67.8kg this morning - exactly the same as 1st September! I can't believe after 18 days all I have done is maintain. It's not like I've been dieting madly and plateaued, my problem is entirely 100% not sticking to eating well. Every day I start with new resolve, then I end up being tempted by birthday treats or a friend offering me cake, or just binging in my kitchen.

Trying desperately to be positive, I did gain about 4.5kg between late July and end of August, so I suppose at least I halted that rapid weight gain. But I desperately want to see some of it come off.

I'm going to keep up with MFP, and focus heavily on protein. I also want to get stricter about 16:8 - I know how much better I feel when I do it, but getting through the DCs' breakfast without giving in is proving more than I can manage most days at the minute.

I have my friend's birthday tomorrow and have lost nothing for it, and feel really unhappy about that - I so wanted to feel confident and slender, and I just feel very average.

I'm on emergency measures to at least try to be non-bloated for tomorrow, so my meal plan for today is:

  • Actually fast until 1pm, not give in at 8am.
  • Roast veg and tofu salad for lunch
  • Vegetable soup with cheese on top for dinner (no bread)
  • loads and loads of water

Just about to do my yoga practice, and going to try for a decent length practice too, because that always sets me up for a healthier day.

@Millie2016 that sounds awful with your ex! Fortunately I don't think we're going to end up in that territory (although it's early days), but it's just so hard to try to work out a solution that's fair to everyone.

@cricketmum84 what a total wanker that bloke was. I hope you're feeling better about it today. I am always astonished at how many people can't reverse. And as a general rule, the nicer the car the more unwilling they are to do anything so undignified as reversing down a lane to help someone else. Drives me bonkers.

@Tanaqui that does sound weird. Maybe some hidden caffeine in something you ate? Or just a random weird hormonal/exercise combo that's made your body go haywire for a few hours. Hopefully you'll get through today then sleep solidly tonight.

lightlypoached · 18/09/2019 06:40

@Hopefully if you are struggling with breakfast why don't you change the eating window so you have brekkie - eggs for example and then have final meal at 4pm? Spend the evening drinking herbal tea.

Worth thinking about?

cricketmum84 · 18/09/2019 07:18

Thanks everyone. It's probably still going to bother me for a bit tbh. But all your threats of violence have really cheered me up 😚

Down another 2lbs this morning! These fast losses will start to slow down soon though. Only 2lbs away from 6 stone loss now!! And 4lbs away from being on the 18s!!

Plan for today is:
Lots of water and green tea
L (12.30) the leftover stir fry that I didn't eat yesterday
D (7.30) lentil Dahl

No snacks or wine, maybe a gin and diet tonic depending on how stressful my day is 😂

Back down to 12.10 today which I was before my weekend away so quite happy with that, 3lb loss for September so far.
Still struggling with the clothes side of things, my size 16s are generally starting to fall down but apart from one pair of jeans, I can't quite bring myself to buy anything new in a 14. I don't really believe I will fit in it. I think I need to get down another half a stone then I will have to reward myself with some new clothes.

Ihatesundays · 18/09/2019 07:36

After complaining I have dropped 0.4kg overnight. Now 73.8, under 70 still looks a long way.

LooseAtTheSeams · 18/09/2019 07:39

Cricketmum I'm so sorry to hear about what happened - you must have been shaking afterwards. 💐 don't let him make you think you're anything other than wonderful xxx
On the health and fitness front I should have drunk more water at work yesterday - very thirsty by the time I got home! Today's plan:
B: oats, blueberries, yoghurt.
L: leftover cottage pie (sweet potato/potato mash on top - yum!)
D: hopefully something with not too many carbs!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 18/09/2019 08:46

I’m in the same twilight hinterland too @WoollyFoolly

Bought lovely jeans from Markies and they are a 16 - a size I never thought I’d be but come to terms with because you know... body positivity and all that.

They are skinnies and fit lovely, but my size 16 mum jeans are all over the place and they too are M&S.

Try lots of different stuff on and believe you deserve it, and if you drop to an 8 overnight, sell it on eBay nearly new 👍

AndTheyLivedHappilyEverAfter · 18/09/2019 10:01

After 2 days of only having between 700-900 calories (as I've been I'll) and doing 16:8 I've gone down to 10.10/67.45 this morning!! That's 6lb gone so far!! My clothes felt so much bigger this morning Grin

WoollyFoolly · 18/09/2019 14:36

I think if I woke up as a size 8 someone would have had to chop me in half. 😂

The next sale is coming up, I'm going to see if I can order a couple of pairs of jeans and work trousers in a 14 and see how I get on

2018SoFarSoGreat · 18/09/2019 16:57

well finally a bit of movement in the right direction. This month I went UP instead of down, despite doing nothing different, and no snacking or sweets or anything new. Today I am down to 182.2. That's .2 off of my 'normal' overweight weight, which is was goal #1. Get rid of all the excess I've gained over the last couple of years. I think 182 is the weight my body prefers, if there is such a thing. It goes to that, and usually stays there for long periods.

Another .1 and I shall be in a number of stones starting with a 12. Not a 13. Not a 14. That is really exciting. It is inspiring me. Come on 12!

Am amazed at how much weight some of you are losing this month. Wow. Great work.

HollyTheHarrier · 18/09/2019 18:23

@cricketmum84 so sorry to hear what happened. What a twat

@Tanaqui that sounds weird. Could be adrenaline from exercise I guess? From what I can judge based on height and frame my optimum weight is about 58kgs so I’m going to see if I can get there. I am definitely still carrying some excess fat! I started at 66kgs in July and I don’t think I can continue to lose weight at the same rate but my running has improved so much through losing that 6kgs and eating better that I am hoping I can stay on the thread to keep myself on track. I am awful for eating a tonne of biscuits after running and thinking I can get away with it!

Sigh81 · 18/09/2019 21:16

That sucks giant donkey balls, OP. Agree with PP that if you were anything larger than a 10/12 he would still have shouted it. You are doing fantastically well on the weight loss - and in keeping us all motivated and feeling welcome on this thread!

Food diary today:
B: 2 slices wholemeal toast, small bunch of grapes
L: chicken stir fry, sweet potato fries
D: salmon yuzu poké with mango and raw slaw. Grapes.

Snacks: small portion lemon drizzle cake, 2 mini rice krispies.

Drinks: black coffee and water.

Millie2016 · 18/09/2019 21:28

Closing the kitchen. I weighed in again this morning, still going in the wrong direction. Sigh.
Skipped swimming tonight as DH had a work do. Will do an exercise class tomorrow though. I’m wondering whether I should try the 16:8 as so many on here seem to be having success with it. Might also help me curb the evening munchies. Going to read up on it before bed.

cricketmum84 · 18/09/2019 21:52

Meal plan went a tiny bit awry. I forgot to take my lunch with me, ended up in looooooong arse meetings and all of a sudden it was 3pm and I hadn't eaten since Tuesday lunchtime! I was pretty much at fainting point.

Managed to nip out and grab a pasta salad but could only manage half.

Had my lovely curried green lentils for dinner, would have had a few poppadoms with it but they had been opened and have gone soft :(.

2 gins for the mega stressful day and I'm 600 calories under target. Oops!! DH keeps offering me biscuits. He's such a bad influence.

Sorry to hear about asswipe behaviour @cricketmum84 - some people just have absolutely no manners. Particularly making you reverse so far.

I've cracked and had a vodka or two this evening. It's been one of those weeks. Yesterday was dragged in to a meeting where boss said "you're all getting letters today to say unpaid leave for three weeks"; so I approached boss a little later and said "what do you want me to focus on today, being my last day for three weeks?", and the response was "oh no YOU aren't going."

Confused

Not ideal when no carbs and no booze has passed my lips for 18 days + divorce + poorly DC. All too much today. Didn't eat much either. Need some motivation!

Tanaqui · 19/09/2019 06:19

@ScoobyCan, that sounds tough, hope you have a better day today.

@HollyTheHarrier, I hadn't thought about adrenaline, that sounds likely. I'm feeling down today and that would make sense. Also have a sore throat so maybe coming down with something! 10.1.1 again today, pretty gutted tbh as have been pretty good! Hope you are all feeling happier than me today!

Tanaqui · 19/09/2019 06:19

(Sorry, that sounded self pitying and I meant it lighthearted - I have a lovely life really!)

lightlypoached · 19/09/2019 07:13

Morning!

After 2 days of 16:8 /800 I'm on
61.7 /32%

Not bad !

TheBatsHaveLeftTheBellTower · 19/09/2019 07:22

Quick question about 16:8.

I'm thinking of introducing it into my woe this week. Can you still drink water or does that count as breaking your fast?

Struggling to see how I'd drink 2+litres kf water in 8 hours!

cricketmum84 · 19/09/2019 07:26

@TheBatsHaveLeftTheBellTower you can have water, unsweetened drinks and black tea and coffee. I know some of us have a dash of milk in coffee which, if you are being strict, is against the rules but I'm not sure it makes a huge difference.

I have green tea and water with those twinings cold infusion bags in.

OP posts:
TheBatsHaveLeftTheBellTower · 19/09/2019 07:35

Thank you!

I only drink water, beer and coffee with cream. So water it is 😜

FashionFoodLaughs · 19/09/2019 07:35

Long time lurker. Love the support on this thread and would like to join if that’s ok?
I’m coming off Amitriptyline after being on it for 2 years. Didn’t realise how much it had contributed to my weight gain. Not huge but have a massive tummy that no amount of exercise gets rid of (and I do a lot) plus intense sugar cravings and huge appetite. I’ve been off it for 2 weeks and already 2lbs down (11.3) and my happy weight is about 10.10 so we’ll see how it goes!

ScoobyCan · 19/09/2019 07:51

@TheBatsHaveLeftTheBellTower - you drink cream in beer?!!

Thanks @Tanaqui - it wasn't ideal but then I guess he is a dreadful manager. I shouldn't expect anything else but it was very unsettling. One of my colleagues came in yesterday and handed in his notice as he's had enough of being pushed around like this. I quite envy his ability / the fact he is in a position to do that - effectively I'm a single parent with DC to feed so I can't. Your post wasn't self pitying!! Mine was!!

Onesmallstep67 · 19/09/2019 07:53

Morning, following the progress, hints and tips everyday and trying to apply some of them here. I'm 6lbs down so far for September so hopefully on track to hit the half stone, everything crossed.
@cricketmum84, just wanted to say that you sound like an incredible woman, juggling lots of stuff and you have done brilliantly with your weight loss so far. X
Struggling personally I think with the days where it feels a bit relentless, constantly thinking about how to consume enough food containing the least calories to satisfy my appetite. And then not give in to too much temptation. Food has clearly always been a reward and comfort for me. Too much time on my hands to fill and not enough people around to help me fill it. But I guess I am the only person that can address that !
Have a great day everyone xx
