Link to previous thread here: Half a stone (or 3kg) off for August!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3652424-half-a-stone-or-3kg-off-for-august

Morning all! Welcome to the half a stone loss challenge for September. All are welcome whatever plan or method you are following. I'm mainly following ww online with some intermittent fasting thrown in for good measure!

All I ask is that we continue the uplifting positivity and support seen on previous threads! We cheerlead each other, celebrate success and support through the harder times.

We had a great month in August with lots of losses. I don't know about you lot but the longer this goes on the more it feels like a way of life for me now rather than "being on a diet"?

Stats for me are:
Starting weight: 19st 13
Loss for August: 14lbs
Loss for 2019: 5 st 3lbs
Target for September: 10lbs off

Ready for September??

❤️❤️

I've thrown a full on diet strip this morning. Puta pound on even though all I ate yesterday was a salmon fish cake and some salad.

So I made a quorn bacon sandwich in white bread with butter and brown sauce. And I don't regret a thing.

Sensible salad for lunch if I get hungry. Dinner is jackfruit chilli with babygem lettuce leaves in place of tacos.

Hopefully I'll stop grumping soon!

Diet strip Grin

I've had an alright weekend. I ate fairly well but I did have quite a bit to drink, probably 2 bottles of wine over 3 days.

I've switched to oat milk this week and I'm really liking it, lovely on my muesli this morning and quite filling even in drinks. Been able to keep up being veggie as well and not finding that hard.

Today's food:
B: No added sugar muesli with oat milk
L: Tomato and bean soup
D: Roast veggies, sweet potato, rice and nandos sauce
Snacks: Mars bar, banana.

Should finish the day on around 1400. I want to go for a walk at lunch time but it's bloody freezing today and still have no warm coat Sad

TheBatsHaveLeftTheBellTower · 09/09/2019 11:00

Bit of an 'argh' day.

Got my period last week and had dreadful carb loading cravings. I always feel so lethargic and in pain so it's difficult to do anything - eating properly takes back seat.

However, I didn't gain any weight; I just didn't lose any. So not too bad really.

Back on it today.

Very motivating to see so many fantastic losses!❤

Jeds55 · 09/09/2019 11:06

Good luck today @bluebeck - job sounds very interesting.
4lbs loss today, very happy with that but think my starting weight was a bit off as weighed later in day last Mon and this morning was first first thing. Will see what this week brings.
Up at 5 with daughter, feels like it should be lunchtime already.
Hope everyone has a good day

Ihatesundays · 09/09/2019 11:48

Heavier today but that’s normal for me to go up after going down....

I’m starting to see a difference in my thighs at last, which is where I carry a lot of my weight. Determined to be happy to wear shorts next year.

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 09/09/2019 12:44

Lurker here but 10 stone 5 today and my period has now finished so I can assume that's correct. Aiming for a stone but more toning and strength than weight loss.

Doing 14:10 fasting also until noon each day. Just had a chicken salad for lunch. Will attempt a healthy dinner tonight! Might even hit the spin bike I currently use a clothes horse Grin

Also using MFP.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 09/09/2019 13:36

Made myself a delicious salad for lunch and managed an hour you tube Zumba workout while my child napped. Feeling like a winner!

WoollyFoolly · 09/09/2019 13:53

That looks great @Millie2017 I've just had my usual lunch salad as well. May be switching that over to a lunch soup soon!

BeetrootBasil · 09/09/2019 13:58

Great to see the threads still going. @cricketmum thank you and well done on your amazing losses. I had a break over August (I say break like it was planned, it wasn't) but am pleased to say I only put two pounds on and only ate total rubbish over the last two weeks (and what a difference those last two weeks made, my energy plummeted). I'm back with a goal of losing just over a stone, in however long it takes. I've done the store cupboard shop and will be batch cooking some soups and making energy balls for the freezer as those helped last time, plus keeping sugar down to a couple of pieces of fruit a day. I've done a balanced weekly meal plan with a few freestyle meals and will put portions etc into a nutrition app as that worked last time to calorie count and watch nutrition. I loved the clean eating element of it before, felt great. A new thing I've introduced is a habit tracker, my fitness coach suggested writing down what I've done rather than always following a to do list so I've gone the full hog and written a list of daily habits and I get a star each time I do one. My five year old self loves it. Good luck everyone in reaching your goals.

Kanga83 · 09/09/2019 14:01

Lost 5lbs in 9 days due to doing the 'whole 30' however I'm sure most is water weight. Still happy with that though. Spending the morning making healthy dinners for next couple of days

Alaimo · 09/09/2019 14:13

I took a break the last two weeks of August as I was on holiday. Actually came back from holiday weighing slightly less than before I left despite not dieting, although it was a very active break.

Struggling to get back into the dieting zone though. I am managing to exercise most days, but really struggling to eat healthier & smaller portions.

cricketmum84 · 09/09/2019 15:05

What's everyone's feelings on ww vs mfp?

I think I need a change in diet and method as I've been stalled for ages. And at my weight I should be losing as long as I'm within ww points? But I don't want to lose my progress from the ww app!

I also put my days food into MFP just to see the comparison and I am so so low in protein intake! 17g today and I'm not planning on having any in my evening meal.

OP posts:
WoollyFoolly · 09/09/2019 15:10

I've used Ww in the past a couple of times and always thought it'd be easier than calorie counting but actually having used MFP, it's so straightforward. Plus I think WW (and slimming world) are still quite focussed on low-fat foods whereas it seems the thinking is shifting now to sugar being the major problem rather than (good) fat. This is the only time I've 'dieted' and felt like it's a really sustainable long-term eating change.
Did you read the article about intermittent fasting? That also might be worth considering because you seem to either eat very little or skip breakfast completely so might just suit you.

Millie2016 · 09/09/2019 17:25

@cricketmum84 also worth remembering you had a big loss in August and your body may be adjusting/stabilising x

Millie2016 · 09/09/2019 17:28

I didn’t have the dedication to log everything on mfp, but found the breakdown useful when I did.
I’m not a fan of ww as the last time I did it I remember there were unlimited foods (zero points) and I don’t get on with that from an eating too much position. You seem to do quite well with your meals though.

No harm in doing a week switch to see how you get on.

HollyTheHarrier · 09/09/2019 17:45

@cricketmum84 it’s just worth being aware that when you create a food in MFP, the only thing you have to add is calories. So if you are logging things which were user added they might not have data on protein/vitamins etc. That has caught me out before.

If that’s not it, I find Fage 0% yoghurt a good source of protein. I know not everyone is into fat free yoghurt but it is very low sugar and in my opinion tastes delicious!

Crazzzycat · 09/09/2019 17:55

I’m probably in a minority here, but I absolutely hate MFP, or My Fitness Hell as I prefer to call it. May be I’m a bit of an idiot, but I find it really difficult to use 😒

I use the Chronometer app, which is so much easier to use, plus it actually does more. And the interface doesn’t make me want to pull out my hair, which is a nice bonus.

I’m not having a great day today. I’m super stressed about a work event on Thursday, to the point that I’m not sure there’s any point in trying to be sensible for the next few days. I think it’s just going to result in over the top comfort eating. I’m going to see if I can manage better by cutting myself some slack. Fingers crossed🤞

bluebeck · 09/09/2019 19:33

Still laughing at "Diet Strip" Grin

Down to 11:5:6 today which is a sudden jump from 11:7 but very welcome.
And I got the job!!! So excited! Won't start for a couple of months but it is hopefully a positive move for me.

Crazzy you deffo need to cut yourself some slack. What's the worst thing that could happen on Thursday? I am sure it will all be fine.

I am another MFP fan. I find it really easy to use.

CalmConfident · 09/09/2019 19:35

Really proud I managed to survive an overnight work thing where there was food provided everywhere without eating the entire world!!!

Things I did NOT eat includes white chocolate magnums, crisps, sandwiches bacon butties and chocolate bars. I did have Indian food, a cheese & spinach crossiant, gallons of tea and shortbread but it could have been a lot worse!!!

CalmConfident · 09/09/2019 19:37

@bluebeck congratulations Star

WhoKnewBeefStew · 09/09/2019 19:40

I really struggled with Ww and find MFP much easier. I'm not sure why as essentially they are the same

HollyTheHarrier · 09/09/2019 19:48

Congratulations @bluebeck

Tanaqui · 09/09/2019 19:56

Congratulations @bluebeck.

@cricketmum84, I wonder if it would help if you ate a bit more? I think "starvation mode" a is myth, but one fishcake and salad sounds tiny, and mfp might be right about protein.

@Hopefully, we should really similar! About the same weight (how tall are you?), aiming for 16:8 but struggling with late evening meals and possibly leading to binging. Would love to hear any tips you have!
