Link to previous thread here: Half a stone (or 3kg) off for August!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3652424-half-a-stone-or-3kg-off-for-august

Morning all! Welcome to the half a stone loss challenge for September. All are welcome whatever plan or method you are following. I'm mainly following ww online with some intermittent fasting thrown in for good measure!

All I ask is that we continue the uplifting positivity and support seen on previous threads! We cheerlead each other, celebrate success and support through the harder times.

We had a great month in August with lots of losses. I don't know about you lot but the longer this goes on the more it feels like a way of life for me now rather than "being on a diet"?

Stats for me are:
Starting weight: 19st 13
Loss for August: 14lbs
Loss for 2019: 5 st 3lbs
Target for September: 10lbs off

Ready for September??

❤️❤️

Also - I watch 'my 600lb life' some evenings, especially when I want to binge.

WoollyFoolly · 06/09/2019 13:33

Aurea you seem to be making things too hard for yourself. If you fast from 7pm to 3pm the next day, that's 20 hours not 16. If you finish eating at 7pm, you should be next eating at 11am.

I do 16:8 and drink tea with milk all morning - you'd have to have a lot of milk to get up to 100 calories!
The idea of the long stretch without food is that it helps your metabolism because of the flipping between feast and famine. I'll see if I can find the article I read about how it works.
I eat pretty normally for my meals, I have a salad most days for lunch (but a substantial one, with olive oil, avocado, seeds, cheese etc) and a 'normal' family dinner. Eg last night I had chicken pie with a baked sweet potato and mushy peas.
Make sure you get lots of protein and good fats - don't eat diet or low-fat foods as they generally replace fat with sugar and one of the aims of fasting is to balance your blood sugar levels

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 06/09/2019 14:05

first week of 16:8 properly observed and I’m 80kg.

For fucks sake.

Ihatesundays · 06/09/2019 14:33

I drink milky tea doing 18:6 as I can’t cope otherwise. It might have slowed it up but it is working and more realistic.

I eat usually between 11-7 or 11.30 to 7.30.
I didn’t have lunch until after 12 and I was desperate though

Aurea · 06/09/2019 14:59

Thanks all for your tips and suggestions.

I've done quite well so far today. Crackers and pate and salad. A small bowl of sugar free granola and yoghurt. And fruit. Still feel hungry though which is not helped by the packet of digestives and a home made courgette cake left out on the counter by my son.

I need to squeeze my eating window simply because I'm greedy and my portion size is out of control. At least then, I'll have less room for error.

I'd love to hear about others' 16:8 success stories as motivation. 😊

WhoKnewBeefStew · 06/09/2019 15:04

Just been out for my pub lunch (weatherspoons) and had a jacket potato and veggie chilli. All under 500 calories. I did however have 2 glasses of wine = 300

Notopel · 06/09/2019 15:25

I’m experimenting with a later breakfast Huel so that I can skip lunch and use the calories for a nice dinner.

I’ve made pork Bolognese today which I’m having with spaghetti for dinner. 741 calories which is more than I’d usually eat at dinner time. So looking forward to this 😋

After Huel and dinner, I’ll have 154 calories left for movie night popcorn 🍿

Continuing with not adjusting for exercise calories. 75 minute Peleton endurance ride this morning which burned approx 400 cal

redchocolatebutton · 06/09/2019 18:02

how does huel taste? is it gritty like other powders (or am I doing it wrong?)

cricketmum84 · 06/09/2019 18:05

Hello my lovelies. Sorry I've been MIA today. Busy busy day and I feel like utter rubbish. DS refused to go to school so had the stress of trying to get him up and on and then had to speak to pastoral officer and child protection officer... finally home and in need of a big gin.

Haven't had time to eat since my rubbish tea last night that I just picked over.

Just me and DS tonight so we are ordering Chinese. I've found a new one that does vegan dishes and quorn instead of chicken so it shouldn't be too bad. Will probably go for some sort of dry noodle dish, eat half and save half and share a portion of tofu with him. Will be good to get some 121 time with him to try get him talking again.

Oh the joys of parenting teens.

@redchocolatebutton The chocolate is quite nice. Not keen on the Vanilla. There’s a new banana flavour which I’ve ordered for next month.

I’ve got the best results from blending with a hand blender and leaving overnight in the fridge.

Aurea · 06/09/2019 19:31

First day of 16:8 done. At a guess I have eaten around 1700- 1800 calories which isn't brilliant but my BMR is around 2300 (tall and active) Feeling quite full now but this won't last long....

Thanks for everyone's encouragement and advice.

HollyTheHarrier · 06/09/2019 20:13

@heroicalien crochet is a good idea, I knit and it really takes my mind off eating! Someone else (sorry can’t remember who) asked about avoiding eating in the evening. For me it’s all about distraction - knitting, bath, whatever I can think of. Usually I eat fairly late so that helps. I have just finished my dinner and i’m going to have a bath first then maybe some yoga. I’m not sure if this is helping or not but i’m also enjoying watching Bake Off 😂

HollyTheHarrier · 06/09/2019 20:37

@Aurea I don’t do 16:8 so feel free to ignore as I don’t know much about it, but a four hour eating window seems very short. I would be concerned that it will encourage you to eat even if not hungry rather than listening to your body?

AndTheyLivedHappilyEverAfter · 06/09/2019 20:54

Hey, checking in for the day!

I've actually managed a whole 5 days of sticking to my diet-woohoooo!! I meant to weight myself this morning but forgot so looking forward to do doing it tomorrow. Going out for a meal with DH tomorrow evening so going to eat and drink what I want but try to fast all day until then. I'm already torn about what to have!

Today I've had...

lunch at 1:45- Ham sandwich and low cal crisps
Tea at 6:15- (tiny amount of) chorizo and cheese omelette
Snack any time now- Hagen Daaz chocolate drizzle gelato. They're GORGEOUS and only 150 calories.

Finishing the day on 1167 calories.

Millie2016 · 06/09/2019 21:38

Closing the kitchen. My low cal bolognese was delish. Didn’t have a pudding, but did share some pringles with DH on the sofa.
If I don’t exercise in the evenings I really struggle not to eat. Will double my efforts next week re. The evenings.
Have my fingers crossed for the weigh in tomorrow morning.

WoollyFoolly · 06/09/2019 22:48

I've finally managed to find the article again that explained how and why intermittent fasting works. It's quite long but made so much sense to me. At its most basic, you are trying to reduce your insulin levels in order to access energy stored as fat. Insulin levels drop the longer you are without food, allowing you to start breaking down fat

idmprogram.com/fix-broken-metabolism/

Wanderlusting99 · 06/09/2019 22:56

Checking in for the day, missed breakfast as had a meeting straight after the school run that ran until 11.45.
lunch: 2 thin protein bagels with bacon medallions
dinner: Soup and a punnet of grapes (aware this is a lot of sugar!)
drinks: 2 litres of water, 3 pints diet coke (a habit I wish I could kick without ending up needing a nap every day)

Do most people weigh in once a week or just at the end of the month?

Ihatesundays · 06/09/2019 23:10

I weigh every day but I only note the weight when it’s a loss.

Anyway screw 18:6 because I am drinking gin and had a packet of crisps, which were amazing!

Aurea · 07/09/2019 00:03

Thank you for the article woollyfollly. It makes very interesting reading and is encouraging.

I'm hungry and not able to sleep and I have a while to go til I can eat tomorrow. Confused.
Night everyone.

Tanaqui · 07/09/2019 07:02

I had great results eating 11am till 7 pm Aurora - I would either have brunch around half 11 and then a normal dinner, or banana/apple at 11, lunch around one, normal dinner. Unfortunately I have multiple even g commitments at the moment and often can't eat till 8,8:30, and starting to eat at 1230 doesn't work for me- I am too hungry and overeat. So play about with it and see what works for you.

I'm away this weekend so no weigh in, and had weird meals yesterday due to delayed flights! But aiming for around 2000 cal each day to stay stable and will reassess Monday. Have a good w/e all!

Blondebakingmumma · 07/09/2019 07:13

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut how disappointing!

Thanks for the link @WoollyFoolly, I’ll check it out too ☺️

AdventureTravelDreamer · 07/09/2019 07:30

Hi, I haven't posted during the week but I have been staying on track food wise and trying to keep up with the thread for motivation.

Can't remember who it was but someone asked if anyone is veggie / vegan. Reading through people's food diaries there is a lot of veggie meals being posted so I think there must be quite a few of us. I have been veggie since my early teens so a long time now!!

I am another one who had a starting bmi of healthy (think it was @Sigh81 who mentioned that) but my weight was right at the top of the range at just under 25. So you are not the only one!

I am a daily weigher and have lost 3lbs this week which I am really chuffed with. Just need to keep it up over the weekend now!!

Blondebakingmumma · 07/09/2019 07:48

I had a few too many red wines last night.... which then lead me to eat leftover curry 🤦‍♀️. I’d like to say I’m making up for it today, but we are headed to a friend’s house for dinner and drinks. I may have to extend my fast Monday

WhoKnewBeefStew · 07/09/2019 08:42

4lb off this week, but I did my first weigh in the day after I got back from two weeks all inclusive holiday, so all I've really lost is my holiday weight (better than nothing), going to try and not be a twat this weekend and carry on being good. I'll be happy with a lb a week for the rest of the month

cricketmum84 · 07/09/2019 09:55

Morning all, it's day 7 today so we are officially a week in. And I have lost...... nothing!! Nada! Not a single bloody lb.

Something seriously needs to change next week! I just haven't worked out what yet...

Welcome to all the new joiners from the last few days. Hope you have all had a good first week!

Well done to all the losers :)

For the pp who asked about veggies - I've been veggie since April but have recently been having the occasional bit of fish. I do keep trying to go vegan - I don't use milk at all, discovered avocado spread in place of butter, but I do have a small amount of cheese once or twice a week.

Strict weekend for me. No wine, just a couple of gin and slims tonight. Lots of veggies, no treats! Taking DD (10) to her friends birthday party tonight, friends family are Indian and have text parents to say grandma has done loads of homemade samosas for the parents.... must resist amazing samosas!
