Link to previous thread here: Half a stone (or 3kg) off for August!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3652424-half-a-stone-or-3kg-off-for-august

Morning all! Welcome to the half a stone loss challenge for September. All are welcome whatever plan or method you are following. I'm mainly following ww online with some intermittent fasting thrown in for good measure!

All I ask is that we continue the uplifting positivity and support seen on previous threads! We cheerlead each other, celebrate success and support through the harder times.

We had a great month in August with lots of losses. I don't know about you lot but the longer this goes on the more it feels like a way of life for me now rather than "being on a diet"?

Stats for me are:
Starting weight: 19st 13
Loss for August: 14lbs
Loss for 2019: 5 st 3lbs
Target for September: 10lbs off

Ready for September??

❤️❤️

Managed a walk of over an hour tonight. Fitbit says that was worth 600 calories.

Went out for lunch and had a toastie and a small bit of cheesecake. But nothing else until dinner (pasta).
Had weight loss 3 days in a row - hope I can go to 4...

And today the most important thing is I am wearing size 12 jeans!

Wanderlusting99 · 05/09/2019 19:26

Does anyone have any fiction or tv shows they find help motivate them? I loved reading The Amazing Adventures of Dietgirl but there is only so many times I can read the one book!

Tanaqui · 05/09/2019 19:27

Awesome @Ihatesunday!

I've been okay today- eaten "normally" so won't have helped me lose but fingers crossed will stop the gain- think I need a few stable days before I cut down again. Thanks for all the tips and support.

Millie2017 · 05/09/2019 21:16

Closing the kitchen. Not a bad day, kept to meal plans but have eaten a lot of fruit in between. Bananas, satsumas and an apple. Might weigh in again in the morning just to see how I’m doing.

WoollyFoolly · 05/09/2019 22:51

Fantastic ilovesundays!
Ok, so I dug out some very very old clothes earlier, I had a couple of size 14(!) dresses which I tried on. One fit, one didn't. No good for the family photo anyway so instead I had a good browse online and I've ordered a few from JL to try on.
I also found 2 pairs of size 14 trousers. And...I can get them on! Ok, bit of a muffin top over the top but they do up fine and I'd be able to actually wear them! Amazing, ill Have to start considering myself a size 14/16 instead of an 18. I think it's probably nearly 10 years since I've been a size 14!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 05/09/2019 22:54

@Wanderlusting99 sort of. It’s the impeccable French women of “Call My Agent” that are a motivator.

HollyTheHarrier · 05/09/2019 22:57

Not a brilliant day. Got tempted at work again and ate three mini rolls 😳😳😳 honestly I don’t know why I have no self control whatsoever, especially once I start.

Still within calorie allowance so not all bad. I just wish I could stop fixating on food so much.

Tomorrow is my rest day from running which makes it harder to stay on plan as I can’t earn myself an extra 500 calories or so! Will have to be v careful.

HeroicAlien · 05/09/2019 23:36

Argh! I succumbed to the wine. Fortunately DH got back before I was too far down the bottle, so we shared it and I'm still under 1200 calories for the day. But I really have to stop the food/wine as a treat mentality - it's the main reason I'm overweight.

Blondebakingmumma · 06/09/2019 01:01

@woollyfoolly it’s great when you can fit into smaller jeans 👏👏👏 I have a fair few gathering dust waiting to be worn again 😂

@Heroicalien wine is my bane. During fasting missing out on an evening wine is the hardest part for me 😢

Tanaqui · 06/09/2019 05:11

I think it's hard to find another comparable "treat" @HeroicAlien- something cheap, easily available for and instant. A lot of other good ideas - bubble bath, magasine, new make up- take time or money. I sometimes find fancy teas can do a bit, and sometimes I can do the "one good chocolate" thing!

10.0.7 today so I am.going to try to keep at that all weekend and then try and drop a little again from Monday. Hopefully that will curb the binge type eating!

Hopefully · 06/09/2019 06:26

After yesterday's food diary trauma I'm feeling ready to get going properly today. I'm a ridiculous 0.4kg up on my 'bloated' weight at the start of the month (now weighing in at 68.2kg), so I've got some serious work to do to get things back on track, but I know I can do it. Going to keep up the food diary, which has definitely been my revelation of the month (no point having a lovely plan if the diary doesn't reflect the plan in any way!).

I've meal planned for today, but included the weak spots that I know will hit, and I'm focusing on protein and veg in an effort to avoid the hunger pangs that I know will be my downfall.

  • 10am turmeric latte (began my fast early yesterday)
  • 11am Mexican scrambled eggs with garlic, paprika, spinach, avocado and tomatoes on a thin slice of sourdough
  • 1pm 2tsp cashew nut butter and a piece of fruit, probably a banana to keep me full
  • 3pm inevitably some bread and butter, because I'm baking sourdough today. One good slice, guilt free though, not half a loaf scoffed while standing in the kitchen.
  • 7pm steak or chicken with salad.

My period hasn't yet arrived, but what's interesting is realising that I've been 'blaming' my recent weight/appetite on PMT, but actually it's just because I knew my period was due and therefore allowing myself to comfort eat and not feel bad about weight gain, rather than actual PMT. Yesterday I really felt PMT-ish, rather than just persuading myself that I was allowed to pig out because my period was due in a couple of days so I must have PMT.

Anyway, fresh start today, with food diary and optimism.

Hopefully · 06/09/2019 06:33

Also, total TMI, but my gut is all over the shop at the moment - days without going then a dodgy tummy for a day, on loop. Maybe the food diary will enlighten me about that too. I'm sure those late night meals when I stay with my friend are to blame (also staying in someone else's house always makes my gut shut down and I won't 'go' until I'm home unless I'm away for days on end, which is a weird insanity that I share with my DM).

heroicalien and tanaqui I'm not much of a drinker, but food as a treat is such an issue for me. It's quick, easy and affordable (so many other treat are expensive or take time, and I am incredibly time-poor as well as money-poor), and I have a lifetime of messages that food is a reward for doing something/treat to improve a crap day. DH is the same (worse than me really) and I've noticed since spending evenings and nights with my friend that he isn't the same at all - he eats when he's hungry, and if he isn't, he just doesn't. And he eats a shit-ton of protein just by making food choices in that direction without really thinking about it (he'll start with the meat/eggs/cheese then figure out the rest of the meal around that), hence my recent protein revelation.

Wanderlusting I'm going to look up the amazing adventures of diet girl!

Blondebakingmumma thanks for the fasting book recommendations, I've decided to download one today as I'll have some time alone over the weekend (first time in a long time!) and I'll be able to read for a bit.

Wehttam · 06/09/2019 07:10

Hopefully if you’re having gut issues I highly recommend Celery Juice for a few weeks. Whole bunch of celery juiced, drank first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, waiting 20-30 mins before breakfast and I guarantee your gut will be sorted within a week or two. It literally cleans you out and has a whole load of other benefits. Trust me it works!

Vebrithien · 06/09/2019 07:15

Good morning all,
Sorry to have been AWOL for the week, it's been super busy getting back into the term!
Couldn't help thinking about what we were doing this time last week!

Have also decided to change my weight-in day to a Friday, as my day off has changed this year.
So, today's weigh-in is.....92.4kg.
That's 1.1kg down since the start of the month, and I returned to normal eating habits after our AI adventure!
Very happy with this. Had 2 glasses of low cal wine this week, and will probably stop with alcohol for a while. Only other unusual thing I've been having is a little bit of a chocolate Easter egg that I'd managed to save!

Today looks like this :
Wheatabix protein + milk + dried cranberries
Tomato and basil soup with a slice of beetroot and apple bread.
Jacket potato with egg mayonnaise and salad.

May have a orange, or some grapes as a snack. Got a swimming lesson today with DD, and am just off out on a 20 min walk round the block to post some letters.

Hope you all have a good day!

crivit · 06/09/2019 07:21

Blimey! 71.7 this morning and that was after a hot chocolate last night! I'm waiting for the bounce back up but enjoying the direction at the moment 😀

TheBatsHaveLeftTheBellTower · 06/09/2019 07:22

Does anyone have any fiction or tv shows they find help motivate them?

Santa Clarita Diet.

Not motivational as such, but certainly puts you off eating and makes you a bit more mindful... Grin

Sadie789 · 06/09/2019 07:26

Am I too late to get started?

I’m 6 weeks PP with a new baby and a toddler and not really sure how to proceed!

I managed to lose a stone while pregnant and after having the baby my weight has settled at 12st 7 (I’m 5ft 2) but this is where I will start to go the other way and put weight on so I need to get started.

My motivation, apart from being fed up being so fat, is that I want a tummy tuck and I need to be a stable and decent weight before they will go ahead with that.

I want to lose at lease 2 stones. 2 and a half would be amazing.

Any tips on how to do this with a demanding bf baby and a toddler, zero cooking skills and constant rain preventing walking for exercise!!!

Starting weight: 12st 7
September target: 7lbs off
Goal weight: 10 st

Wehttam · 06/09/2019 07:28

Vebrithien looks good to me, which Milk are you using? Is the egg mayo homemade, if so what mayo? What drinks will you be having throughout the day?

HollyTheHarrier · 06/09/2019 07:32

Finally a whoosh this morning! 0.7kg down compared to 1 September. No doubt I will bounce around a bit but gives me hope that something is happening!

@hopefully your meal plan looks lovely! I totally understand the food as treat issue, I am the same. My alternative treats are much more expensive (eg a massage, facial etc). I try to think of it that by not buying chocolate for £1 every day I can spend £10 every other weekend. That doesn’t fund the massage though 😆

Happy Friday everyone! Stay strong today 💪

BoBBIe09 · 06/09/2019 07:33

Morning all sorry this is not diet related but can someone answer my question i am thinking about changing energy supplies but do i keep all my credit that I have on my key meter I have over a hundred pounds on my gas thanks x

Vebrithien · 06/09/2019 07:42

Wehttam Morning Grin
Milk is semi-skimmed cows milk, it's the only one DD will drink and I can't deal with trying to keep on top of different bottles of milk!
Yes, the egg mayo is homemade, large boiled eggs, the Hellman's lighter than light mayo + pepper, and some sumac.
Just had 2 cups of black coffee, and will have about 2 bottles of tap water, and one of cold infusion. May have a decaff black tea or coffee while DD naps.
My evening treat is a big glass of Perrier water with a hint of apple in it. I love sparkling water in the evenings.

redchocolatebutton · 06/09/2019 07:45

But I really have to stop the food/wine as a treat mentality - it's the main reason I'm overweight.

that's a really good insight.
mine is stress.
had a lot of that for the last 3 years (brexit...) and it will stay si at least until the new year.
sometimes only comfort food will do.

Wehttam · 06/09/2019 08:02

Vebrithien morning back! How do you get on with the lighter than light lightest ever light mayo? Just curious as my DP says to just use less of the normal mayo, do you end up using more of the lighter than light to get the taste?

Good to see the water on there, it shocks me how many people start eating healthy but don’t drink water. It contributes massively towards that feeling of wellness and yet people look at me like I’ve cursed their lives whenever I question their water intake and suggest increasing it.

Wehttam · 06/09/2019 08:09

Food as treat mentality often stems from childhood learned behaviours. We are taught to treat ourselves with the stuff that tastes good but is mostly bad for us (McD’s, Chcolate, fizzy pop, sweets, takeaway night)

Once you reach adulthood and are able to make decisions yourself, some people lose the self control aspect and subconsciously treat themselves to the bad stuff because now they have no limitations. This is why so many people struggle with day to day eating, we are literally bombarded with temptation of treats. It takes a very strong mindset and A lot of willpower to resist the urge to ‘treat’ oneself.

Ihatesundays · 06/09/2019 08:12

I watch fat a year to save my life or sometimes it called obese a year...

So 4th day in a row of weight loss! Another 0.3kg so I am 74.3kg. Looking forward to seeing that 73kg.
