Link to previous month here: Half a stone (or 3kg) for July http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3624800-half-a-stone-or-3kg-for-july

Hello everyone! Old timers, newbies, lurkers and anyone I've missed and welcome to the Half a stone challenge for August!

Everyone welcome regardless of what diet or exercise plan you are following.

All I ask is positivity and support for all of us (and someone to follow me around and steer me away from the Greggs vegan rolls please).

I'm currently on holiday until Saturday so will weigh in then and let you all know the damage as my starting weight for August.

Much love x

Cool you sound like you're doing great!
I got back from holiday and have put on 1.5kg but it could have been worse and I know I had some treats.
Being careful with calories and planning to go running tomorrow so hopefully Monday's weigh-in will be heading back in the right direction!

3dogs2cats · 10/08/2019 13:18

I got back from holiday also with a 1.5 kg gain. Also horsefly bites and a stinking cold. Don’t know why we bothered.

Ionacat · 10/08/2019 14:39

Oh no horse fly bites are horrible.

I caved to the chocolate last night. However back on it today and just dragged my backside out for a run. Furthest for a long time - 7.75k and will try and resist the chocolate later.

cricketmum84 · 10/08/2019 15:05

@CoolLikeOvie extra special well done on the smoking. That is so much harder to crack than dieting. And doing both at the same time is so so hard!

CoolLikeOvie · 10/08/2019 15:32

Thanks everyone! I am vaping, but am slowly and surely lowering the nicotine and hopefully will be able to pack that in by the end of the year too.

@Ionacat 7.75k is amazing! Is it something you've started recently or have you always been a runner? I'm still struggling to run for 10 mins straight at the gym Blush but last month I couldn't even run for a minute so hoping I'll get there one day.

Daisychainsgetbroken · 10/08/2019 19:23

Feeling really proud today and just wanted to share. I struggle with binge eating at times. Have badly wanted to binge eat all day. I have managed to stave it off. I just cooked a baked potato and some falafel and while it was cooking had cucumber and peas in pods. I ate the baked pot with butter on. And 2 mini falafel bites. And am going to put the rest in the fridge. IN THE FRIDGE. I haven't scoffed them all. I am full and have listened to my body.

(You migh think baked pot and butter and falafel is very heavy meal but it's a tiny drop in the ocean compared to what I would have eaten on a binge and has 100x better nutrients)

Can't believe i have managed not to binge. Once I get that urge I usually give in. Now off for an evening walk in the sun. So pleased.

LooseAtTheSeams · 10/08/2019 20:27

Daisychains brilliant willpower! You must be very proud of yourself!
I think I'm back on track after the holiday - 2 alcohol-free beers, no wine!Halo

Seashell80 · 10/08/2019 20:51

Oh dear not had a good day ☹️ham and cheese toastie for lunch followed by scone with jam and clotted cream, tea was ok-Korean pork and rice but have given in to the emergency Picnic! Oh well back to being good tomorrow

Tanaqui · 10/08/2019 20:53

Well done Daisy!

I struggled a bit today but the "kitchen is closed" mantra did help this evening so thank you! I did my hike but went round in a circle at one point! Extra steps I suppose, but then it rained in thr end and I ate a bit of an old peanut bar i found in my rucksack and I was cold when I got in and smacked with my tea- mainly seeds and fruit but also half a chocolate cookie. But only half! Spoilt my no-refined-sugar thing though, but oh well (actually thinking about it the peanut bar had already! It wasn't a date sweetened one). Hope everyone had a good Saturday.

Tanaqui · 11/08/2019 07:33

10st3.2 this morning but I do feel a bit thinner (imagination and wishful thinking probably!). Wish I had enjoyed the years I could lose 4lb in a week! Have a lovely day planned so hope to stay firm. 🍀 all.

Fluffiest · 11/08/2019 08:06

Aaand I'm babk to my August start weight this morning. I feel like this month has been a month of excuses and slacking for me.

Went to the food festival yesterday and spent ages walking around and only bought one small treat for DD. But we got absolutely soaked in the rain - even DD's spare clothes in the backpack were sodden. So came home and comfort ate all evening. Big helping of pasta and garlic bread. Rice crispie treat and a cookie. Then I sat on the sofa and watched TV all evening.

At least I know from this thread that others have got stuck in losing and gaining the same couple of pounds and have eventually got through it. So I'm not giving up yet.

LooseAtTheSeams · 11/08/2019 08:23

Fluffiest - it's weird how it goes for me - in the past I used to get down to a particular weight then give up! Now I'm finding that I have broken below that level permanently (after quite a struggle!) but the weight can seesaw by about 3 pounds before I manage to settle on a new low. I'm battling on because it works eventually and I keep reminding myself of how much I've lost since January but within a month it can be very frustrating!

Ihatesundays · 11/08/2019 08:35

Nothing again for me today - hoping I get on one day and have a big loss!

Ionacat · 11/08/2019 08:36

@CoolLikeOvie I did couch to 5k two years ago and then started on 5 to 10K but gave it up. Kept running 5ks but decided that I should be able to go for 10K and currently working though an app - I have three more weeks to go. Running seems to keep everything on an even keel - stops me binging and also keeps my hormones under control.

I remember the days when I used to be able to lose 4lbs in a week. Wish I’d stuck to healthy eating and exercise back then!

I’ve lost a lb this week, but more importantly my shape seems to be changing - clothes are looser and I managed to do up my size 12 jeans for the first time in a long time. (Way to go before I’m in a size 12 everywhere but it’s a step in the right direction.)

OhTheRoses · 11/08/2019 08:51

I completely agre with that looseattheseams.

Despite a bit of a feast last night scales were 12st 8-1/4 this morning. Have had mostly ww blue dots this week so hoping for a 2lb loss tomorrow.

I feel as though weight is settling at a new "low". This seems to happen in three to four week spurts and little blocks of about 3lb. So it's slow progress.

Sudddenly I feel thinner and clothes are no longer tight - even my underwear is more comfy and a size 14 nightie I had stopped wearing is loose over the bust/back again.

Something I have noticed is that my ankles aren't swelling this summer as they have for the last several although I think that may be due to cutting down on wine.

cricketmum84 · 11/08/2019 09:25

I've got up to a weight of 20st 3 this morning. That's another 3lbs since yesterday and 10lbs since we got back from holiday a week ago.

What the hell is going on?? I had really hoped that coming off mirtazapine would help with weight loss but I wasn't expecting this!

@Fluffiest I was the same in July, just constantly losing and gaining the same 2lbs. Don't give up hope! It's just a temporary plateau.

I'll be cooking a roast chicken for DH and DD today with rice and crusty bread. I've got a quorn crispy fillet to try with side salad. Must stay away from warm crusty bread and butter!!

Have a lovely relaxing Sunday everyone!

Good going cricketmum!
I'm inching down slowly, 13st 2 today, so 2 lbs so far in August. Would really love to break down into the 12s by the end of the month!

OhTheRoses · 11/08/2019 11:41

Well am in my steamy Sunday bubbles and this weigh is usually the lowest of the week! Just sweating out a bit more with a little more hot water. Contemplating swim and sauna later.

OhTheRoses · 11/08/2019 13:40

12st7-1/4lb. Lightest so far this diet round. Oh that 7 is a sight for sore eyes. I am now 1/4lb less than the last time I started weight watchers in 2012 Shock. And just a 1/4lb more than the night before dd was born (21 years ago) Blush.

bluebeck · 11/08/2019 14:31

Am I too late to join? Hopefully not.

Serial dieter. My downfall is alcohol. As well as the excess calories, it makes me snack so it's a nightmare for me.

I am 12.1.8 and would like to lose at least half a stone by the end of August. Ultimately would like to get down to 10 and a half stone - I am 5 ft 5 and in my 50s.

I am using MFP set at 1200 calories but am going to try the 16.8 on top of that. It should be easy today as I got up late!! However, on a normal work day I get up at 5.30 for my long commute, so fasting until 11 is going to be tough and I am prone to fainting. I don't get home until around 18.30 so can't really have dinner before 7.

I will give it a go though and see how I get on. Like some PP, I sometimes find if I have an early breakfast, that seems to send a signal that the cafe is open and I am hungry all morning. Am hoping that if I can last out until 11, that will cut out a lot of calories and I won't feel too hungry/faint.

In early Sept I have to attend an event where XP will be and I haven't seen him for 7 years. I was 3 stone lighter then so I have quite an incentive (but have probably left it quite late to get started!)

cricketmum84 · 11/08/2019 14:55

@bluebeck welcome, it's never too late :)

My downfall is definitely wine! I try and stick to gin and diet tonic now.

I'm sure there will be someone with better knowledge than me along soon but is fasting a good idea if you are prone to fainting?

OP posts:
bluebeck · 11/08/2019 15:01

Thanks Smile

I faint due to low blood pressure so I always carry snacks with me (low cal cereal bars) so if I feel really faint I will have one. If that doesn't work out I can try doing 16:8 on the days I am not working - I work part time, but long days. So next week it's 3 long days/four days off.

Can anyone advise re apple cider vinegar? I bought some ages ago but not sure what to do with it. Am assuming I don't pour it over my food so it's inedible Grin

CoolLikeOvie · 11/08/2019 16:11

Me too re looking back wistfully to the days of losing 4 pounds a week Sad I'm only 26, I'm tall and I'm overweight, I'm exercising regularly which I've never done and I'm being v good food wise and it's still coming off way slower than it ever has before! Think I might have to stop weighing every day.

I can definitely see that I look like I've lost weight though, though nobody has commented. Just wish my humungous belly wasn't the last to go! Will KOKO.

Good day today.

L: cocktail sausages, cheese, a few nuts and green salad
D: chicken stuffed with cheese wrapped in bacon with roasted veg
S: Tea and milk, handful of blueberries, and a sugarfree lollipop

OhTheRoses · 11/08/2019 17:04

Bluebec, I find avoiding cereal and bread first thing helps with the munchies. Total yoghurt with a bit of fruit gets me to about 12, might have a satsuma mid morning. I have breakfast 5.30/6 too.

I have a lunch of leaves, tomato, cu, pepper, cottage cheese and or chicken, tuna, often with some beetroot, cornichons or olives thrown on. That gets me to supper and I like a good evening meal. Have found if I work late, can go straight to bed with a gin and slim and it really helps shift a pound.

So far today I have had melon. Just having a glass of pink. The DC and I are having roast lamb, roasties and veg in about an hour. DH is away all week so evening meals should be kinder this week. We all drift to France to join him at different times this year but all back together in early September. Desperate to break 12st 7 before I leave and hope to hold it when there. Oh but I do need a rest - work has been gruelling for 12 months and our week in Greece was just enough to get me through until now.

bluebeck · 11/08/2019 17:15

Sounds like we have a similar lifestyle and size Roses

I just got back from a couple of weeks in France. Managed to "only" put on 3lbs largely due to loads of walking, plus being on holiday with "Booze Police" DD Grin

I am not going to weigh myself until Thursday morning, at which point I will hope to have cracked the sub 12 stone barrier for the first time in years. I just checked my BMI and it says my minimum weight for my height and age should be 10:10 at which point I would be a size 10. It says I could go down to 7:13 which is shocking when you consider that at 8:4 I was so ill my periods stopped for over a year Confused

I need to keep a check on my face at my age, so if I think at size 12, my face has reached the point where further loss will push me over to haggard, I will stop. Just got to take it one day at a time I guess.

Have a lovely holiday and thanks for the advice.
