Following on from previous themread and on the lovely @VivaFridas behalf I welcome you all to half a stone off for June!

Welcome to all and good luck for the month ahead. I hereby promise to inject a little enthusiasm into each morning and stay away from the Greggs Vegan rolls.

Old and new joiners welcome, whatever diet or exercise plan you are following. All I ask for is positivity towards others even if we are feeling a bit meh about ourselves.

Who's in and ready for day 1 tomorrow!

I find daily weighing helps howlong.
looking forpizza Flowers one of the post menopausal benefits is that those sorts of days tend to fly away.

It's just so slow. Feel I am resigning myself to losing 2lb a month when it feels like it should be 2lb a week. Started 15.4 and total loss 12.5lb.

cricketmum84 · 18/06/2019 06:35

Good morning all and hello to

❤️ Day 18 ❤️

Had a good day yesterday until 9pm when I accidentally ate 12 points of hazelnut heart cookies. Today will be better!!! Hopped on the new scales this morning and they said a gain of 1lb. I'm blaming the bloody cookies.
Today is:
B - coconut yoghurt with homemade banana chips (4pts)
L - leftover stir fry from last night (2pts)
D - quorn chilli with cauliflower rice (0pts)

Not weighing again until Friday!

@waveygravy well done :) you are almost at the 3kg goal already!!

@Saladforsantorini 5 weeks until holiday here too, I really need to get my bum in gear.

@Wellthatwastricky glad you are doing better!

@DeadButDelicious I read that as you were off to stimulate your new scales. I thought maybe that's where I was going wrong 😂 have they weighed you much different?

@Lookingforpizza Thanks we can do this

Yesterday :760 calories
Weight today 61.7 Grin

Another 800 day today.

Vebrithien · 18/06/2019 06:46

Yesterday here had the first, almost nice weather for ages, so managed to stick to my food plan. I find I eat so much better when it is sunny!
Got weather warnings for thunderstorms and rain for the next two days, so going to have to be careful.
Antibiotics are done, still coughing and snotty, but on the mend I hope.

Plan for today...
Banana and high protein yoghurt
Courgette frittata with left over Greek salad
BBQ style Quorn fillet wrap, with green salad and Korean style sweet potatoes.

Weigh in tomorrow!

cricketmum84 · 18/06/2019 06:54

@Vebrithien would you mind sharing your recipe for the Korean sweet potatoes please? I've got a big bag of them in the garage and stuck in a rut of just baking them! Korean style sounds lovely!

Glad to hear you are feeling better x

@Howlongtillbedtime yes the fast800 explains why you eat crap. It's basically a) like crack cocaine in that once you start eating crap - sweet stuff mainly - your body gets a high and the pancreas produces more insulin to cope. Your body then demands more sugar as your blood glucose level steeply drops. You eat more and it starts all over. Eventually the pancreas can't keep up and you get type 2 diabetes. B) habit. If you have it in the house you'll eat it. Mosley suggests getting rid of all crap out the house before you start fast diet and if the rest of the household 'needs' it they lock it away (he explains how you'll go foraging like an addict looking for a hit otherwise Shock)
It's quite interesting.
And also like addiction there is a withdrawal.
I only started reading the book yesterday. It's a fast (hahah!) read and really motivating me.
Fast800 by dr Michael Mosely.

Oh and it's also about being healthy not just losing weight - lots of research now showing f the benefits of intermittent fasting on cancer rates and dementia.

800 calls is also pretty easy - yesterday I had a huge omelette with tomatoes and fresh herbs in it with half a plate of lettuce and carrot sticks. Struggled to finish it.
For dinner a full plate of pasta with chicken breast cooked in passata , garlic , olive oil and herbs. With a sprinkling of paremesan and a whole bowl of sugar snap/cucumber/apple and yoghurt mint dressing salad (homemade). I was stuffed.
Highly recommend this approach. Grin

lightlypoached · 18/06/2019 06:58

@Vebrithien with sweet potatoes I chop them up and toss with a small amount of olive oil (allowed fast800) with whole garlic cloves and a good sprinkling of fresh rosemary and sea salt. Roast for 40-30 mins. Absolutely divine and just as lovely cold the day after (if you manage any leftovers 😳

Startoftheyear2019 · 18/06/2019 07:09

💐 to everyone who is struggling. This is a long haul and if you wobble a bit then there's always tomorrow. I'm losing weight horribly slowly, but I'm proud when I remember how I used to eat anything and everything and now I'm (more) conscious of what I eat.
And when I'm going off track, I think about this thread and it helps! KOKO!

Howlongtillbedtime · 18/06/2019 07:14

lightlypoached thank you
How many fast days do you do ? I have to admit that having only 800 cals sounds scary. I am set at 1250 at the minute and some days I struggle with that.
I did watch the programme he did and it seemed he got fab results.

Fluffiest · 18/06/2019 08:23

Morning everyone! That's a great thought for the day, cricket.

I'm really pleased today. 9st14! First time I have dipped under the 10st mark. That's now half a stone lighter than my weight from mid-May.

Got a breakfast date with friends this morning so will choose the lighter option, skip lunch and will try and make a veg heavy tea.

Not going to have much time for exercise today but will try and be active with housework and playing with DD this afternoon.

Good luck to everyone today. May the sugaruy snacks be unappealing and the salads delicious!

lightlypoached · 18/06/2019 08:35

@Howlongtillbedtime I am currently doing 1 week at 800 to give me a kick start then will revert to 2 days at 800 and 5 days at normal calories.

On 800 days for me the tricks are

  1. drink lots.
  2. eat lots of raw veg and salads - at least half the plate full of them fills me up
  3. chew and swallow before loading the next forkful. I got into the habit of shovelling Grin
  4. be ready for hunger pangs and accept them. You aren't going to expire from them and they will pass. Drink water and distract yourself
Crazzzycat · 18/06/2019 09:29

lookingforpizza well done for resisting the temptation to comfort eat! There really is nothing to be gained from it, apart from excess weight Smile

Howlongtillbedtime, not a book suggestion but what worked for me, especially when I was just getting started, was to focus on my health rather than weight.

Weightloss can be so slow and it’s easy to get demoralised. The effects on overall health were noticeable much quicker for me.

Whenever I’ve felt like giving up, I remind myself of how much harder it used to be to go for a walk, how much my knees and feet would hurt etc. I find it a lot easier to get motivated by that than by a 0.5 kg drop on the scales.

LeukaeLucky · 18/06/2019 09:40

59.9
(starting point was 61.9) I can't even celebrate because I keep going up and down despite being really good. It's a bit disheartening but we keep on keeping...
No exercise today as its a fasting day and will try to stick to 500 cal even if I find it challenging (I normally end up around 600)

Lookingforpizza · 18/06/2019 10:32

Morning all! Feeling a bit brighter today but suffering intense boredom at work atm, I thrive on stress Grin thanks everyone for all your support, I’m so glad we have this thread.

Some of the weekend bloat dropped off so I’m back at 79, would be fab to reach 78kg by the weekend. Loss has been slower this month but overall my exercise and eating habits have been improved so I’ll take it!

Today’s food:
B: Banana and skinny latte
L: Tomato and lentil soup
D: Salmon and chilli with egg fried rice
Snacks: Maltesers and a hot chocolate

Brings me at about 1200 cals - gonna try and keep to 1200 this week and next to get a good loss going. I’ve got a birthday coming up and have about 5 events going on for it, so think diet will go out the window for that weekend Grin

Well done @Fluffiest that’s such an awesome achievement!

Hope you are feeling better @Vebrithien - sounds like you had a really awful time of it!

@Howlongtillbedtime I don’t have any book recommendations but know a lot of people swear by fast 800 as previous posters have mentioned. I do think it takes trial and error to figure out what works for you, and you just need to remind yourself that it feels better when you take care of yourself, rather than going sod it and then feeling annoyed that you’ve sodded it. It takes time but you will get there! I might even start fast 800 myself if my weight loss progression is still going slow in a few weeks time!

DeadButDelicious · 18/06/2019 10:45

They've not arrived yet @cricketmum84 should be here tomorrow! Hopefully they aren't too far out!

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 18/06/2019 10:59

Hi everyone, mind if I join you?

I am utterly rubbish at committing to threads, but I've lurked on here a bit, and you seem
like a nice, forgiving bunch Smile

I have an event in October that I'd really like to be thinner for. I put on lots of weight very fast last year, because of chemo & steroids. Unfortunately, this also pushed menopause right forward, so losing weight has become even more of a pita than it was before.

So I'm now 12st3.

I'd like to be 9st7, but would be very happy with 10st7 by October.

Today I've had a bowl of home-made yoghurt with nuts, seeds and cranberries.

I'll have a big plate of beef chilli with rice at about 2pm, then that'll be it for the day. (Trying out 16:8).

I liked the 5:2 diet, but that's proving too difficult atm. Trying to be nice to myself.

Vebrithien · 18/06/2019 11:50

Korean style baked potatoes (sound really plain, but taste amazing!)

For one serving

Preheat oven to Gas Mark 7 (200°C)

  1. Cube 100g of raw sweet potato
  2. Rinse and then dry the cubes.
  3. In a bowl, combine 1.5 teaspoons of veg oil, with a pinch of salt and 2.5 teaspoons of sesame seeds
  4. Add the sweet potato cubes and mix until coated.
  5. Place it all on a baking sheet and bake for about 20-25 mins until golden brown (depends on the size of the cubes!)

1 serving has 188 calories, 22g carbs, 11g fat and 3g of protein.

Vebrithien · 18/06/2019 11:58

Thank you lookingforpizza, hopefully I'm coming through the otherwise of all of this.

Lightlypoached that sweet potato recipe sounds lovely. I'll try it next week, with Mediterranean veg and Quorn bake

Jeds55 · 18/06/2019 12:18

Weighed in yesterday- 10st 8.4 so 3lbs off. V surprised after weekend but will take it.
Struggling to stick with diet today as convinced I'm going to have second very very early mc in a row. Don't want to throw towel in though as would feel extra crap then. Soup lined up for lunch so have plan in place

Lookingforpizza · 18/06/2019 13:11

Oh @Jeds55 can’t imagine how anxious you must be feeling Flowers

LeukaeLucky · 18/06/2019 13:12

@MilesJuppIsMyBitch welcome
I'm on the same boat*(chemo, +menopause age 34)
We can do this x

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 18/06/2019 13:31

LeukaeLucky sorry to hear you're in the same shit boat, but it's nice to know there's someone in similar circumstances on here. Thanks for the welcome Smile.

Jeds55 fingers crossed it's not what you think it is.

About to go down & make my last meal of the day.

Millie2018 · 18/06/2019 13:40

Welcome @MilesJuppIsMyBitch
@Jeds55 really hope you are ok.
So this morning at play group I’m asked “have you lost weight?”. Finally!
Had my usual wheatabix and fruit for breakfast, had an egg salad for lunch and having pizza and veggies for dinner. My evening walk will depend on the weather.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 18/06/2019 16:57

Thanks Millie2018.

Had food as planned, but found chocolate in the fridge & ate some.

Forcing myself to be cool about this. We're only monkeys after all! 🐵

So I think I've probably had about 1000 calories today over two meals, plus lots of walking and Pilates.

Not bad.

Skinnywish1 · 18/06/2019 18:19

Well I have spent most of the day in hospital due to suffering from a very strong consistent headache for last fortnight. Sent home starving and thirsty with antibiotics as scanner wasn't working and I got four kids to look after. Dread to think what the tabs will do to my weight loss now
