Best way to lose 3 st

So, I've obviously buried my head in the sand. This morning I realised my go to comfy clothes are in the wash. I've basically been wearing leggings and baggy tops for the last year or so. I tried on a top I haven't worn for a while and my oh my it looks terrible! I thought enough is enough and braved the scales- I'm 13st 4, the heaviest I've ever been! I'm 5ft 9.

4 years ago I was just over 9 stone and a small size 8.

My ideal weight is around the 10st mark.

I've never eaten breakfast or lunch but have a large dinner. This can be something extremely healthy or the polar opposite 😬 I don't really snack on anything. I drink just Tea without sugar and occasional sugar free soft drinks. I assume my downfall is my love of Prosecco.

I'm fairly active as my job is physical.

Where am I going wrong? I know I should cut out the wine. I've tried eating breakfast, lunch and dinner but gain weight.

What diet would be best?

TIA

Thanks @agirlhasnonameX, my diet is protein rich and I've reduced my carbs but still have some. I'm a sports coach by trade and this involves resistance training already.

I've never eaten breakfast or lunch but have a large dinner.

This is where you are going wrong. You are going 24 hours without a meal, your body will think it's starving and will hang onto the energy from the evening meal, which you will not burn off as you eat it before a large period of inactivity (sleep), so will turn to fat.

Use MyFitnessPal app to calculate your maintenance calories and take 200 or 400 from the total (to lose approx. 1lb or 2lb a week respectively). And you must consume 3 meals a day! Especially breakfast!

DottieLottie1 · 24/05/2019 08:53

@SpeedyBojangles , thanks I have never eaten breakfast or dinner in the past but since going low cal I've introduced a high protein/ zero fat & sugar shake first thing and then fruit at lunch. This is more than I have ever eaten at these meal times. I appreciate it might not be perfect but it's a first step at trying to change a habit I got into in my teens.

@DottieLottie1 You still need carbs though! Especially as you have an active job. Have you looked at huel or something like that? Meal replacement shakes do they are balanced and you are getting the nutrients you need.

DottieLottie1 · 24/05/2019 09:43

@SpeedyBojangles, my main evening meal is generally carb based. Love pasta! X

Oops apologies for the random X!

OP posts:
DottieLottie1 · 25/05/2019 21:16

Though I haven't over-eaten but struggled

I'm gonna go to bed to avoid excessive munchies! I've done ok but yes I've felt hungry today. Managed to keep it at bay. Not sure where this has come from seeing i e has no hunger pangs til now?

OP posts:
DottieLottie1 · 25/05/2019 22:39

I'm ok now and the hunger has passed! What was that? Yes I've reduced calorific intake but I'm still rating well...

Foo2 · 25/05/2019 22:46

Hang in there Dottie! I started cutting back just over a week ago and have 3 stone to lose too.

DottieLottie1 · 26/05/2019 04:08

Thanks @Foo2. That was the hardest day so far! I wasn't particularly busy yesterday which is unusual so that may have played a part?

Good luck Smile

I'm wide awake but nothing to do with hunger I promise Grin

Fine again today but was ravenous yesterday. I was good though!

Week 2 lost 1lb though I feel really disappointed. I was hoping for 2lb and aware I'm being silly. Sad

Total weight loss-5lb in 2 weeks.

Foo2 · 28/05/2019 17:12

5lb is great! The steadier it comes off, the more likelihood of it staying off. Well done. I have my weigh in tomorrow.

DottieLottie1 · 28/05/2019 18:33

Hi @Foo2 , I'm aware it's a good loss but to see 4lb slow to 1lb when your dieting quite hard seems a little disappointing 😔

Need to get beach ready for my hols next spring so hopefully will keep motivated 😃

DottieLottie1 · 28/05/2019 18:35

Let me know how your getting on @Foo2. How have you found it? I've only had one tough day which was Saturday just gone but I've been fine.

OP posts:
DottieLottie1 · 31/05/2019 16:28

How are you getting on @Foo2 ?
I've had a good week. I felt like I'd shed some weight the first week but didn't feel the same last week! Not sure I've lost anything this week (weigh in Monday) but I've religiously kept to 1200 calories daily. I'll make sure I eat well tonight as I really suffered last Saturday with hunger pangs.

Foo2 · 01/06/2019 01:01

Doing ok thanks - had lost 3.5 at Wednesday's weigh in. Only my second week, so 8.5lb in total. The past couple of days have been a struggle though, and have been over my calories for one reason and another. Hoping for a good day tomorrow, to claw back some of the slippage!

DottieLottie1 · 01/06/2019 19:47

@Foo2 , 8.5lb in two weeks??? That's great!

OP posts:
Foo2 · 01/06/2019 22:03

@DottieLottie1 thank you 😊. I actually have about 5 stone to lose (3 was wishful thinking!), so have a long way to go. I started Diet Chef a couple of weeks ago, to kickstart my progress and hopefully keep me going.
How are you getting on?

DottieLottie1 · 02/06/2019 07:06

@Foo2, still a good start!

The motivation is still here. I'm being strict through the week but have I do treat myself a bit at the weekend but within reason. I've cut down on the alcohol and I wouldn't say I've felt particularly hungry.

I felt like I'd lost weight in week 1 but last week although consumed only 1050-1100 calories per day I didn't feel a difference. The scales confirmed this, so a little disappointed. I'm weighing and recording everything so I know my intake (I'm actually over estimating).

Weighing in tomorrow 😬 Not 'feeling' much different this week either. I'm going to persevere whatever as I've got 8 months to get beach ready.

We can do this @Foo2 Smile

DottieLottie1 · 02/06/2019 07:07

Sorry for the boldness of the last post!

OP posts:
DottieLottie1 · 03/06/2019 08:53

Just weighed myself and my (digital) scales are fluctuating between 12.9 and 12.10 so I'm going to record the heavier reading.

So

Week 1- 4lb

Week 2- 1lb

Week 3- 3lb

Loss to date 8lb.

Goal weight 10st

That's 38lb to go.....

I know it's a good start and I'm eating well but still a long road ahead!

I think I can keep the motivation up as my mindset seems right.

How's everyone else doing?
