Three day egg fast starting 23rd April

Easter will be over and I'm heading to Miami in ten days, so planning to reset my low carb eating with a quick egg fast.

I know it's not healthy or sustainable long-term, but it's worked well for me in the past. The first time I lost 7lb.

I'm following Stuntnun's thread from 2014 and this blog from I breathe I'm hungry.

The basic rules are :
At least 6 eggs a day, but loads more if you want. 1 tbsp of butter/mayo/coconut oil per egg and an optional 1oz of cheese per egg and bucketloads of water. I often add a little celery to make the egg mayo go down more easily- though it's not strictly allowed.

I did a big walking challenge and relaxed on the carbs ( then celebrated with wine and curry), so 4lb up from my highest comfortable weight. Hoping to woosh that away.

Anyone welcome to join in < now for butt covering bit> but I'm not medically recommending it!

I'm not ready yet for another egg fast (finished my very first 5 day egg fast 2 weeks ago!) but good luck! I was amazed at the results and thankfully am still able to eat eggs 😁

Are you going to try some inventive recipes or just go with repetitive things like egg mayo, scrambled eggs and omelettes? I did the latter as I can't cook and I'm not very inventive!

cathyandclare · 22/04/2019 19:47

Thanks for posting and well done to you! Are you still low carb? Has the weight stayed off?

I may do oopsie rolls and a cheese soufflé - but I must admit I love cheese omelettes and egg mayo, so for three days I could probably stick to that!

I am, have been low carb since 1st January and did the egg fast for a bit of a boost. Lost 5lbs, then the next weekly weigh in was up 4lbs but it was time of the month and I always gain then.

Next weekly weigh in had lost the 4lbs gain and another 2lbs.

I really enjoy the low carb way of eating and having control over my hunger (ex-binge eating sugar addict here) but sometimes I can find the unpredictable weight gains and losses a bit of a pain - - I put myself down every time I don't get a good result on the scale but I'm 33lbs down so I do know it's working.

Is this the second time you've done the egg fast?

cathyandclare · 23/04/2019 09:38

I've done a few actually, I think they're a great way of getting back on track.

Day one started, just dull old fried eggs for breakfast- but no need for inventiveness at this early stage.

Feeling a bit sluggish, but less bloated. 1.5 pounds down after day one. Stuck to omelettes and fried eggs yesterday.

Today planning oopsie rolls with butter and marmite, fried egg and halloumi and then a cheese soufflé.

Not feeling hungry at all, but not sick of the sight of eggs yet.

Day 3 and another 1.5lb down, so 3lb so far, which is great. I'm going to just do three days this week. Then a low carb weekend, then another few days before my holiday.

@MrsScamander I totally agree with you about low-carbing helping with binge-eating, it's really made a difference for me. I have to stay away from sugary stuff totally or I'm like a carb fiend!

Is it just eggs?

PenelopeFlintstone · 25/04/2019 09:52

This is very interesting to me because I'm fat but love eggs, mayo and cheese....

dancemom · 25/04/2019 09:53

I might try this but id miss fruit, I eat a tonne of it.

I love eggs though could easily eat scrambled eggs for breakfast, boiled eggs for lunch and a big cheese omlette for dinner for three days ....

Theclearing · 25/04/2019 09:54

Also interesting to me! Didn’t Charles saatchi (nigella ex) do this for months?? (Random fact I always remember)

cathyandclare · 25/04/2019 09:56

@TheGrey1houndSpeaks. It's pretty much just eggs, with some butter and cheese and seasoning.

The rules are at least 6 eggs a day, but loads more if you want. 1 tbsp of butter/mayo/coconut oil per egg and an optional 1oz of cheese per egg and bucketloads of water.

I allow myself coffee with a dash of double cream ( and just have a little less fat/cheese to compensate) lots of water and a diet coke a day too.

Ooh... I might give it a go. Will report back next week if I make it that far!

PenelopeFlintstone · 25/04/2019 10:08

It would be cheap to do, too.

cathyandclare · 26/04/2019 08:10

Final day done and 4lb lost in total, which takes me to a weight at which I feel comfortable.

It was pretty easy this time and I'd continue if I wasn't having a dinner party tonight! I just stuck to cheese omelettes and fried eggs this time, with the odd slice of fried halloumi.

I'll stay low carb over the weekend then do another three days on Monday, aiming for a couple more pounds off before my holiday.

Cathy it’s been great following your experience! 4 pounds off is amazing in 3 days!
What happens when you resume normal eating, does the weight come back?
Do you space out the eggs for 3 meals or save them for two meals only?
Sorry for all the questions, interested to give it a go as well! I seem to remember you did this before a few months ago before you went on holiday? Could have been a ski holiday I vaguely recall. I enjoyed reading yours and the other poster experience at that time too.

cathyandclare · 26/04/2019 08:50

The weight has stayed off with me before- but I have stayed low carb. Maybe a pound back on.

I tend to have meals but I may have a baby bel as a snack if I haven't had cheese with my eggs.

Join in on Monday if you've nothing on!

OP posts:
cathyandclare · 26/04/2019 08:52

Sorry I have three meals and six eggs is the minimum, lots of people have 12 and that's fine. The first time I had nine or ten on the first day, you eat not to get hungry.

OP posts:
Prinlllu · 26/04/2019 08:57

Oh thanks for getting back Cathy! Interesting that when you started you ate more eggs and now have levelled off. A pound back isn’t bad.
I have eggs, cheese, baby gel, olive oil at home so might just join you on Monday! Are you planning to do another 3 days?

cathyandclare · 26/04/2019 09:05

After a day or so you are not hungry AT ALL, it's a struggle to eat 6!

OP posts:
applesarerroundandshiny · 26/04/2019 09:24

Personal question but do you not stink? As in farting all the time? Sorry but that was my first thought reading this.

I do agree that omelette is one food I find super filling.

cathyandclare · 26/04/2019 09:53

No it totally gets rid of wind and bloating in me!

OP posts:
OogieMcBoogie · 26/04/2019 10:05

Oh can I join? Have a stone to lose and need a kick start.

Prinlllu · 26/04/2019 10:46

I love a cheese omelette so think will def join you on Monday! Not a huge fan of breakfast, so will aim for 2 eggs omelette with cheese for lunch and another 4 for dinner with some baby gel to snack on after kids go to bed. I will be delighted if I lose at least 5 pounds!

tobee · 26/04/2019 15:10

I could do this but was wondering about tea/coffee. Does it have to just be water, please? @cathyandclare

cathyandclare · 26/04/2019 16:05

I am a caffeine addict, I have coffee, tea and Diet Coke! I think they say no milk though I have a splash of cream in my coffee and almond milk in tea
