Spring has sprung; the clocks have changed and Easter is just around the corner.

As the days get longer, let's spring clean our diets and blitz away the extra pounds.

Don't let the chocolate bunnies tempt you too much!

April thread here :)

AutumnNymph · 01/04/2019 11:58

I was far from golden over the weekend - with the glorious weather on Saturday, we had the barbecue out and were out again yesterday for Mothers day.

Not surprisingly I weighed in at 57.7 kgs today.

My aim for April is to maintain and stay in the 57s.

@AutumnNymph - thank you for the new thread and warm welcome.

12st 1 this morning and I will be in Cyprus 4 weeks today so the challenge is obvious. I want to be as close to 11st 10 (or even 9) as possible...Hmm

Small bowl of fruit and fibre for breakfast, cup a soup ramen noodle thing with a banana, babybel and yogurt for lunch. The soup is only 86cal so hopefully a good start. No sandwich or crisps which i have been having every day recently. I have badminton tonight and usually have toast with peanut butter and marmalade after wards. Any suggestions for better eating late in the evening most welcome....

Fingers crossed I can start to lose some of these bad habits...

PearlandRubies194 · 01/04/2019 12:47

@TvHubbyClaire night time is my weakness too - I’m not hungry; it’s just a horrible habit. A good programme starts so I have to have a drink and snack. Then another...and another

TVHubbyClaire · 01/04/2019 12:59

pearl - its a hot drink after food in the evening, either tea or coffee and I just dive for the dark chocolate bar or sweet cake. This can also be after a dessert. I think its worse because I have been on my own for last year and there is nobody to stop me in the house... I actually bought the dark chocolate to try an limit myself to 3 or 4 squares a night in place of dessert and anything else. Now I am having that on top....Blush

QuimReaper · 01/04/2019 13:31

Hi Autumn, thanks for the new thread!

My last weigh-in of March was exactly the same as my first, so my aim for this month is to achieve something Hmm

Welcome back TV, good to see you again!

TVHubbyClaire · 01/04/2019 14:01

thanks quim...unfortunately there is more to see...

never mind, a bit of focus and confessing on this thread should turn that around

Dashel · 01/04/2019 16:32

Ooo fab new thread thank you 😊

I have been a bit of a too much food weekend but I also did Parkrun and got a pb and a hilly 9 mile cycle ride and got lots of steps in over the weekend but not feeling confident enough to go on the scales till Maybe tomorrow or Wednesday morning.

We definitely need to focus as Summer Is Coming 😳

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 01/04/2019 20:37

Thanks autumn for the lovely new thread.

Tvhubby welcome back to the thread. I'm sure you'll do it with such a great incentive.

Quim I just checked and I also started and ended March at exactly the same weight (11 0.2). Not bad news really because I put on 3lb on a weekend away mid-month so at least that's gone.

Target for April is 10 10 by the time I go away on the 26th. My plan is to get off the sugar and get back into fasting.

Smokeahontas · 01/04/2019 22:13

Can I join in? I started myself two weeks ago. Even though I do circuits / weights 5x a week, my diet was shocking. My actual meals were ok, it was the grazing, especially in the evening. Have cut it out entirely and lost half a stone so far. Still some to go.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 01/04/2019 22:37

Well done smoke Grin and yes you are very welcome.

I do a lot of exercise (2 or 3 club runs a week) but it gives me a massive appetite afterwards. I find it much easier to lose weight when I don't run for a week or two but as soon as I start again I get a crazy appetite and need 5 meals a day Blush.

QuimReaper · 02/04/2019 10:49

Welcome smokeahontas - love the name Grin Half a stone in two weeks is incredible, what a great start. With all that exercise it isn't surprising, and we're a wealth of wisdom and moral support on kicking evening snacking! I agree with Kick that balancing the exercise and ravenous response is a tricky one.

Kick I can't really figure out why I made no headway last month; I only had one unplanned feast day, but I did have a fair few unplanned lattes at the beginning of the month, which I guess stymied my progress a bit. I'm still annoyed that last week yielded nothing for me, I thought I'd been amazingly golden. I just need to keep plugging away at it I guess.

Dashel you are absolutely on fire, amazing work! Star

TVHubbyClaire · 02/04/2019 13:09

I'd forgotten how hungry I feel on early days of calorie reduction...

11st 13 1/2 today so at least I am back in right bracket

a small(ish) cereal this morning, Soup, and apple , a banana and a100 cal choc mousse for lunch.

No doubt a 2 finger kit kat in afternoon.

Does the above sound awful, remember I am sitting down all day so burning no calories Blush

lastqueenofscotland · 02/04/2019 13:58

Hovering around 10 8 /10 7 still. Fell off wagon a bit as my relationship is going down the tubes Sad
So happy enough to have maintained

Hopefully won’t be as derailing as the great breakup of 2017 which saw me put on TWO STONE of comfort eating.

lastqueenofscotland · 02/04/2019 13:59

Claire id chew my arm off but I am hugely active so can eat more than most and still lose at a decent rate. I’d be an awful person if I wasn’t

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 02/04/2019 15:07

Last sorry to hear that. It's a tough thing to go through. I'm a bit of a comfort eater too. Look after yourself Flowers.

Tvhubby that's similar to what I've had today but I'm hungry now. Normal for me at this time though.

Back to 10 13 for me this morning. I can see I'm going to hover around 11 stone unless I take positive action. I think a couple of weeks off the sugar might be needed.

QuimReaper · 02/04/2019 15:24

TV not awful but very sugary, and I remember you seeing great results when you cut back on the sweet stuff. Can you remind me if you ever tried a protein-based breakfast, or oats or anything? Simple carbs for breakfast give me the most awful energy crashes later in the day, and my brain is wired to crave more of them (i.e. kitkats!) when that's how I've woken up my metabolism - I think that's very common.

lasty you poor thing, I'm so sorry Flowers You've done amazingly to maintain under those circumstances. A bit of food therapy is always necessary at times like this, and having been there before with a big gain, I'm sure you'll manage to keep it within manageable margins.

TVHubbyClaire · 02/04/2019 16:29

quim sugary is a good word to describe it, I actually feel like I have overdosed on sweet tasting stuff today albeit not in huge quantities. Last time I think I just stopped breakfasts all together Mon - Fri and did porridge often at Pret at the weekends. will walk a bit tonight to make for a later dinner and hopefully control sweet cravings better

lasty sorry to hear things aren't going well, its been a year since my separation and I'm keeping potential relationships at arms length because I'm not sure I can be bothered with the downsides and hastle...perhaps not the most positive way to look at things. Hopefully you will get back on an even keel again soon

Smokeahontas · 02/04/2019 21:31

Thanks all! The loss by just cutting out the shit has really spurred me on. Planning to keep going and have a small break over the Easter weekend and then back on it.

I swapped out my porridge for egg muffins - whatever veg you fancy baked in egg for 20 mins, along with a banana for breakfast.

Lunch is salad - quinoa with plenty of veg, an egg plus tuna / turkey / chicken.

Afternoon snack is yogurt with a spoon of berries

Dinner is the same again / stir fry / home made curry / lean meat, veg and rice

Then one more evening snack. I’ve found the M&S range to be good, or another yogurt / protein shake.

Still tweaking the menu a bit and looking out for new snacks to keep it fresh

TVHubbyClaire · 03/04/2019 08:55

half a stone is a big milestone and in my experience is when you really start to notice a difference..well done smoke

I STS at 11st 13 1/2 after what I thought was a good day yesterday followed by an hours walking at night, but I know I need to plateau before losing. Similar food intake planned for today and another walk at night. Hoping for 11st 12 or better by weekend which I will doubtless ruin by going to pub and eating badly....

QuimReaper · 03/04/2019 17:36

I agree with TV smoke, half a stone is definitely a lovely milestone and I bet you can really feel it in your clothes! An amazing achievement to have kicked it just by cutting out the crap, goes to show it doesn't need to be all doom and gloom Smile

I didn't end up having dinner last night due to boring reasons, making for a mega-Golden start. Already over 50K steps, too. If I don't see any movement this week I'm going to scream!

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 03/04/2019 18:31

A very ungolden week for me. Work stress, an unexpected Indian take away (paid for by exmil so would have been rude not toWink), mcdonalds today and lunch out tomorrow.

Then I'm working on Saturday at a fundraising event and there will be cake. Back on it from Sunday. No excuses next week. I think I'll stay off the scales this week.

AutumnNymph · 03/04/2019 21:26

I have been okay dietwise this week but have been feeling too tired and have definitely been less active than usual. And while I have stuck to my calorie limits it hasn’t definitely been more carbs and fat than veggies and protein.

Going to try and rehaul that. I have also had a crazy couple of weeks with work being very busy.

OP posts:
TVHubbyClaire · 04/04/2019 08:42

My walking has gone well the last 2 nights which has got my steps up and I try to introduce a few bigger hills along the way. Nothing like you Quim in terms of steps but getting to around 10,000 each day which is better than last week. I'm currently walking about an hour in evenings but would like to split some of that up and get out before work too. One nice little bonus to evening walking is that I treat myself to a decaff Americano at my local coffee shop before heading home. they have outdoor seating so its a nice treat to sit there for half an hour after walk and the coffee actually reduces my appetite, last night I just had a sandwich when I got in because it was later and I felt less hungry.

I am terrible for weighing myself each day, I know its not the recommended practice but positively I was at 11st 12 1/2 today which is definitely nearer 12st 10 than I was on Sunday so if I can avoid disaster at the weekend it may turn out to be a good week.

P.S. Bishop - you absolutely had to have and enjoy that curry Smile. There is always time and opportunity to shed that extra Linda

QuimReaper · 04/04/2019 11:59

TV what a great way to get yourself out in the evening, that sounds lovely! Coffee is definitely a great appetite suppressant, as is tea - I always hesitate to recommend it on here because it sounds a bit disordered, but I sip tea all day to keep the tummy grumbles at bay. (I didn't mean for that to rhyme, made it sound like a quaint proverb Grin ) I think 10K steps is perfectly sufficient, I'm just really going bananas trying to get the last three pounds off which have been hanging around all bloody year so I'm really trying to gun for it.

Also did you really mean 12st 10? 10 Lindas since Sunday is truly impressive work Wink

Kick may not be golden but it sounds fun - I'd definitely dodge the scales, enjoy every mouthful!

Autumn I expect your health troubles + a busy time at work must have you completely wiped, I'm not surprised you've been reaching for the carbs and taking it easy more. Sounds like both are what your body needs right now Flowers
