As our old thread was almost full, here's a shiny new thread.
If there are any lurkers about, please do come and join us - we are a friendly, relaxed bunch. Although, hopefully not too relaxed as we need to see results
Summer is just around the corner, so let's do this...!

Thanks fiontar I reckon I've been eating too many carb calories. The other night it was crisps, cheese, foreign meats and bread. Then lots of toast as a substitute for dinner because i'm too busy. The good news is my stomach is still small and I actually wouldn't have had dinner last night but because I was on a date to have dinner made myself eat because I thought it would look odd not to. So I had a burger and I left one bun and half the chips. I can't emphasise enough how big a deal it is that after being brought up to eat everything on the plate I now don't need to.

Fiontar649 · 07/04/2019 10:51

I totally understand the lightbulb moment of realising "I don't have to finish this"

StealthNinjaMum · 07/04/2019 12:28

Without getting too deep I think it all comes from our childhood fiontar649 and I had parents (born in post war times of rationing) who made me clear the plate and 'think of all the starving children in Africa'. Both my parents used to say I was fat as a teenager (when I wasn't really) and now struggle with their weight so I get a nasty sense of satisfaction looking at them as they still clear their plate while I am relatively slim and have been since about 2005 (apart from the long periods around pregnancy).

WhenCanISleepAgain · 07/04/2019 13:33

I think a day off now and again is a good idea stealth and ding ... at least I’m telling myself that today after a day two days of excess. I’m glad you’ve had a good weekend stealth I’m hoping you get into the 13s by the Easter weekend Fiontar! I think you’re going to overtake me before too long!

TheHoundsofLove · 07/04/2019 14:30

I really do think that, as long as we're heading in the right general direction, we do need to accept that life will sometimes get in the way but hopefully not too often .
I'm glad your date went well Stealth .
Fiontar You can totally make the 13s by the Easter weekend!
When We all need a little bit of excess sometimes!
I managed 14k this morning, which I'm pleased with. This weight loss melarkey gets a bit expensive though doesn't it? I'm going to need new running kit again soon - my jacket (which was pretty tight when I started) is now really baggy! Grin

OP posts:
StealthNinjaMum · 07/04/2019 16:57

Well done hounds if I were you I'd buy a jacket or running gear from eBay if you're not near your target size. When I was losing weight before I used to buy lots of clothes that were bnwt (I think that stands for brand new with tags) rather than get brand new clothes that I didn't intend to wear for long.

TheHoundsofLove · 07/04/2019 18:55

That's a good idea Stealth . I'm a 12ish now and want to be an 8-10. I probably won't need a jacket much now until the Autumn anyway, so am going to try and make do. Then, when I get to goal I'm going to go on a Lycra exercise gear shopping spree...I'll be flaunting myself all over the place! 😂

Not much progress yet but thinking about what my motivation is. Previously it was fitting into dresses, looking good going out, body confidence. I feel like that changes as I get older, I feel confident in my body whatever (although not so good about how I look in some of my clothes now!). Also thinking about how I have always yo yo dieted. And the thought of not wanting to lose the weight and put it on again. Does this always happen or is it possible to break that pattern? It seems the best approach is to not be too rigid, aim in a generally healthy direction. Mainly for me its breaking the sugar habit, meal planning, and variety that work for me. My motivation is wanting to keep fit and healthy in my 40s.

Right I'm not coming back until I've done a meal plan and healthy shop. Healthy eating all Star

NobodysDogsbody · 07/04/2019 22:03

What day(s) of the week do you buy fresh stuff?

Its something (supermarkets) I really don't fancy doing on a weekend but I think I used to do Mondays and the veg was never replenished (Lidl). I did Thursdays for a while but I was always running out by Monday.

DingTheBell · 08/04/2019 07:41

Weighed myself this morning and it's a tiny gain. ....Only thing about being relaxed on a Saturday is it can roll into the Sunday too and that's no good.

Week of salads and soups coming up. And a day of cleaning so hopefully I'll burn some calories.

Have a good week everyone 🤞

@NobodysDogsbody I have the same problem and end up popping in for fresh bits most days

GreyandGrumpy48 · 08/04/2019 08:11

Back from holiday and weight is back to where I started on 1 January 😞 Had a good break seeing family and I think it has crystallised that I need to concentrate on me and not spend all my time worrying about what husband wants. So starting again this week with the aim to be 7 pounds lighter by first May bank holiday. Brought fruit and water bottle into work to try and resist the biscuits. You’re all doing so well.

TheHoundsofLove · 08/04/2019 16:29

Great to see you back Grey - you can do it!
Nobody I get fresh things daily, but then I live in Germany where that is very much the norm - I don't think that anyone does a 'big shop' in the way that people do in the UK.
Thinking about motivation, I would say that mine is still primarily vanity! Blush I'm still focusing on my 40th next year and am bloody determined that I am going to look absolutely shit hot for it! Grin maybe I'm having a midlife crisis...? But, being fitter and healthier is a definitive plus point too.

OP posts:
WhenCanISleepAgain · 08/04/2019 19:54

Welcome back grey and kudos for starting again! Just think how happy you’ll be on 1 Jan 2020 (or even on 1 Aug 2019!) if you get started again now! Well done on the water and fruit. I found a creme egg at work Hmm

Celebrating your 40th is a great aim Hounds.
I’ve still not really picked up properly since the weekend so need to get focused again... so my Friday and Saturday has run into Sunday and Monday Ding Blush

I’m just so very tired at the moment! I have an essay due on top of everything (14 month old and work) and haven’t managed to exercise for two weeks. I think often exercise helps motivate me.

Well done nobodys. My DH does most of the shopping and cooking and we don’t do a weekly shop.

mrbob · 08/04/2019 21:10

Just catching up and hounds excellent work on getting in the next bracket! I am 40 next year too and would love to look good for it.
Exciting date news stealth - I haven’t been on a date in well over a year and would be terrified at the prospect! I am glad it went well :)
I get my fresh food every 2-3 days too nobody but again am not in UK so it is easier and they seem to stock more frequently...
Went off piste this weekend for my brothers wedding but now up at 0530 to go to body pump and started back on low carb as soon as I touched down back in the desert so fingers crossed. Things haven’t moved really for a month or so because I have been so on and off but need to drive forward and actually look forward to the days I can be on plan- I feel so much better!
grey it is all possible and just needs your brain to decide it (sometimes without you!)

DingTheBell · 08/04/2019 23:58

It's so good when mfp tells you in 5 weeks from now you would be Xxst xxLb. (I've never managed 5 weeks in a row to see if it's true though! Blush)

mrbob · 09/04/2019 01:21

ding I am similar! But I guess it is a good incentive to think “if I did this for 5 weeks...”
I have just been invited for at another dinner Confused Is very hard when you just moved to a new place and need to be sociable but would prefer if people could just stop being nice and inviting you out because you want to fit in size 12 one day!

Fiontar649 · 09/04/2019 07:37

Good to see you again Grey - you sound motivated and ready to go!
Nobody - I food shop a few times a week. I work right beside the supermarket, so nip in on my way home.
Hounds and bob - I am 40 next year too. It is lurking in my mind, I don't mind the age, but I want to be healthy and fit and stunning
My few days away have stretched into Sunday / Minday too《massive eyeroll》and I have gained my 2 lbs again. Jesus.

TheHoundsofLove · 10/04/2019 06:32

Well, I had a terrible day yesterday - I just felt unmotivated and like I needed to eat stodge! But, I'm back on track today. Fiontar I think you have to see blips of a pound or 2 as par for the course and just make sure that you get back on track and focus on the downward trend.
I'm planning a run this morning and am going to try not to have too many carbs.

OP posts:
Fiontar649 · 10/04/2019 07:37

Hounds I know that feeling! I was the same yesterday, but by bed time I felt a bit "blah" and that I'd had enough.

I got a lot of lovely salad bits last night for my lunch, so feeling a bit more positive this morning.

StealthNinjaMum · 11/04/2019 12:24

I've put on about half a stone which is gutting. I have been eating so much carby crap with dc off and some lots of their Easter eggs too. The worst thing is that I can actually feel my clothes are tighter in the stomach area.

On the positive side my arms look more toned and my gym work is making a difference. I also took dc swimming the other day for about two hours and the weightloss has definitely made a difference to how much energy I have. I am not going to give this up.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 11/04/2019 13:32

Hi Summer Springers, just joining you if that's OK? I'm looking for a little incentive to finish my journey and move towards maintenance Blush

TheHoundsofLove · 11/04/2019 16:52

Stealth It is hard when children are around and you're not in your own routine isn't it? My biggest advice is to get that half stone off as soon as you can, otherwise it can so easily become almost a stone and then it's just so demoralising that it becomes a slippery slope. I have definitely learnt this the hard way in the past!
I am starting to think that carbs don't agree with me much... I wouldn't want to go super low carb (and not sure that I'd manage it as do quite a lot of exercise), but am definitely thinking of cutting out added sugar, bread and pasta. I don't think that I can face counting calories every day - I just find it so joyless and tedious. So, if I don't want to do that, something else has got to give... And I have definitely noticed that eating starchy carbs and sweet things definitely sets me off track very easily.
Welcome Nicelegs - how much have you still got to lose?

OP posts:
NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 11/04/2019 17:12

I've lost 36kg and would like to lose another 4kg to be where I want to be. Not far to go but the last bit of any journey can be quite tough Blush

WhenCanISleepAgain · 11/04/2019 17:47

Hello Legs and welcome! Amazing to hear you’ve lost 36KG - that’s incredible!

I’m sorry stealth. I haven’t bounced back yet this week either so still up about 2lbs. Hounds is probably right about tackling it soon because I know for me that my motivation is getting slacker the longer I wait - in the sense that ‘I might as well have something’ because I’ve already lost the plot anyway. I’ve been slightly more restrained today so can hopefully pick up again tomorrow.

TheHoundsofLove · 11/04/2019 18:01

Legs That is amazing - well done! How have you done it? And what top tips can you give us?
