As our old thread was almost full, here's a shiny new thread.
If there are any lurkers about, please do come and join us - we are a friendly, relaxed bunch. Although, hopefully not too relaxed as we need to see results
Summer is just around the corner, so let's do this...!

Well done When - you've finally got there!
Spring I also had to google EMS - it sounds interesting!
I've had a revelation using MyFitnessPal as I've only just realised that you can input recipes. Blush It makes using it so much easier!

Hiya, room for another? I've got 14 weeks til I have 3 different family events in one weekend and I'm desperate to have a group photo I'm not hideous in, so many other positives to weight loss too I've every reason to get my arse in gear and no reason my to.

Just need somewhere to report to as not much support in RL. I've downloaded MFP and I've been googling TDEEs BMRs BMIs - there's a lot to google!

DingTheBell · 03/04/2019 12:47

*no reason not to...knew I should have checked before posting Blush

WhenCanISleepAgain · 03/04/2019 12:52

Thank you all! Hopefully slow and steady will get me there eventually. My big incentive now is that I could possibly just about be 12 stone something by summer holidays which would be wonderful.

So I just googled EMS training! Wow sounds intense and possibly slightly painful? Shock You’ll have to let us know how it goes Spring

Welcome Ding 14 weeks is enough time to make big difference.

I’ve not got round to entering recipes on MFP either Hounds so I may need to experiment with that too.

TheHoundsofLove · 03/04/2019 13:00

Welcome aboard Ding !
When It's brilliant - if it's an internet recipe you can just import it and MFP looks all the ingredients up for you! Shock

That’s amazing House - I definitely need to look that up.

DingTheBell · 04/04/2019 00:13

So day 1 is down, I didn't struggle as much as I thought I would have, going to make a batch of soups tomorrow for the freezer - that's a pat on the back in itself as I'm a terrible cook!

DingTheBell · 04/04/2019 13:25

So do you think walking 11-16k steps a day is enough to shift anything or do I actually have to work out? I have a exercise bike but it's in the conservatory with the spiders so I'm avoiding it..

StealthNinjaMum · 04/04/2019 13:49

Well done Dingthebell my problem at the moment is I'm not cooking enough for myself but must start doing batches of soup again.

In terms of working out we're all different but at the start of a diet (not that I have really done many) I personally don't try to make too many changes or demands on myself so I would focus on drinking water and eating well, setting myself targets and giving myself non food treats (manicures etc).

So it's only in the last month I've started going to the gym and that's mainly because I am so happy with the results of my diet I feel really good and motivated. For me I think the danger is that if I aim to do too much at the start life will get in the way and I'll fail and get depressed.

Personally I think 11 - 16k steps would be a fantastic start if you can achieve it and then build on it. Some people start their diet with a bang and manage to maintain diet and exercise but I probably couldn't.

TheHoundsofLove · 04/04/2019 16:53

Ding Like Stealth said... try it and see how you get on. I know that I need to actively work out - it keeps me on track food-wise, is toning up the wobbly bits and has , I feel, massively helped to speed up my metabolism. It also means that I can eat a bit more! But, lots of people lose weight just by watching their food intake and walking a bit more. I do have an autoimmune thyroid condition though (causes it to be underactive), so maybe exercise has a disproportionate impact on me. Just on a personal level, I've always disagreed with the weightloss being 20% exercise 80% food thing: for me, exercise seems to account for a much higher percentage. But, I'm starting to accept that I'm not especially typical... Grin

DingTheBell · 04/04/2019 23:48

Thanks for the replies, I've found I'm all or nothing diet wise, so the smallest treat sets me off and I binge and give up, I just don't think I could survive low cal AND working out too, so this time round I'm low cal and just walking more (managed 15k today) just hope that's enough to start shifting it.

TheHoundsofLove · 05/04/2019 06:52

That sounds like a good plan Ding .
Has everyone else had a good week so far...?
I've felt quite focused this week...so hoping that the scales are kind to me tomorrow. I do weigh myself most days, so know there is a chance that I could make it to under 11st but today is Friday and wine consumption could bugger it all up

OP posts:
DingTheBell · 05/04/2019 20:20

Stealth did you used to be stealthpolarbear or something similar to that nn by any chance?

I've gone over cals today but stayed away from choc so I don't have the usual doom feeling I usually get before I give up, just writing out a shopping list for tomorrow-I need a bigger fridge!

TheHoundsofLove · 06/04/2019 09:23

Well... ...I am under 11 stones! I have lost 2.5lbs this week, taking me to 10st13.5! Grin
I've also measured myself and have so far lost 3 inches from my bust, 3.5 inches from my waist and 3.5 inches from my hips. Grin

DingTheBell · 06/04/2019 11:24

Hounds that's incredible well done!

StealthNinjaMum · 06/04/2019 11:35

DingTheBell not me but Stealthpolarbear still regularly posts on other threads, she seems to have been around for years. I think I wanted to call myself ''ninjamum' but someone else had taken it.

Hounds of Love Amazing! Have you done the thing where you get your tape measure and set it to your original size to really see what you were like before. When I started my waist was 41 inches. So I sometimes set the tape measure to 41 inches and stand inside it!

Dietwise I have fallen off the wagon big time! I am too scared to even weigh myself. I went to a friends house one night and just ate ridiculous amounts of cheese and salami and alcohol and in general I am living off carbs.

But I know I am going to get back on it. Being more positive I went to the gym. I'm still relatively unfit but for the first time ever I'm in quite tight clothes and I don't care! Maybe it's an age thing as well as a weight thing but I do feel so confident.

So I am going to get back on the diet tomorrow. Another date tonight and I am going to enjoy myself.

DingTheBell · 06/04/2019 12:09

That's a good idea I may have to measure myself so I can do it when I eventually get there!

Oh ok, I was on a weight loss thread years ago with her and I saw your name last night and thought it was the same - I'm actually 6lb heavier than back then so that's a bit shit to be in same position, Though I have had dc2 since so will blame that!

WhenCanISleepAgain · 06/04/2019 13:19

Fantastic Hounds! That’s totally brilliant - incredible loss this week but represents many weeks of hard work. Such a lost to see such significant results on the scales and in measurements.

I’m a bit like stealth and haven’t had a great end to the last week and enjoyed a rather lovely dinner with friends last night. Weighed myself today and I’ve gained 2lbs taking me back to 14 stone something Confused Hopefully some water weight etc!

StealthNinjaMum · 06/04/2019 14:42

DingTheBell you have a good excuse to be 6lbs heavier! I lost about 5 stone 7 years ago and put about 3 of it on again with no wonderful baby to show for it. This time I am determined to not get into bad habits again.

whencanIsleepagain we'll lose it again it won't take long. At least you weighed yourself, I'm too scared!

TheHoundsofLove · 06/04/2019 15:14

Thanks, ladies.
Stealth and When You'll soon get back on track. I'm planning not to count calories on a Saturday - I'm not going to go mad, but want to have a day where I don't have to log everything. I do my 'long' run on a Sunday morning, so I think that should counteract it.

OP posts:
DingTheBell · 06/04/2019 15:40

Dh has just been saying the same to me, he said there's more chance of sticking to it long term if you allow yourself some slack on one day, then if you are struggling instead of blowing it you can tell yourself it's only till Saturday and are less likely to fail....no idea if he's talking shit or not but seems to make sense..

TheHoundsofLove · 06/04/2019 19:36

I think so too, Ding . Plus, it means there's one day when my husband can cook whatever he fancies or we can have dinner out and I can just enjoy it. I'm going to try it and see if I can still manage to head in the right direction...
Good luck with the date tonight, Stealth !

Fiontar649 · 07/04/2019 08:18

Hi everyone. I have been away for a few days, but got home last night. I have eaten totally off plan, but I am ok with it. I have to get to the place where a few days eating extra cals when away, doesn't turn into a fortnight of picking at things at home too. Stealth and When - we'll get back on it... my next target point is Easter weekend. I want to be in 13s properly by then.

Welcome Ding - it sounds like you are off to a good start!

Hounds - that is a great result! Well done!

StealthNinjaMum · 07/04/2019 10:18

I weighed myself and I'm sure I've put on 2kg in the last week but need to check my weight app. That's about 4 lbs so pretty shit. I actually feel fatter in my clothes. (Wore skinny jeans to my date last night and definitely felt less confident than a week ago).

But I know I can turn it around. I am not going to turn it into a negative spiral of eating more crap because I feel shit about myself. Also i think it helps that I'm more committed to the gym than I have been before so I do feel positive about that aspect of things.

The date went well by the way. I got a little snog at the end and he wants a third date next week.

oooh this made me give a little "squeee" - that sounds lovely, and new, and fun. DH is great, and I was shit at dating, but it's exciting to have new experiences.

I reckon your weight gain is salt/water bloat if you were eating heavier than normal food. It will drop off.
