Fuck, it’s too late to back out isn’t it?

I’m fat. Very fat. Shortly before Christmas a friend approached me and asked if I’d like to join her at her slimming club in the new year. I know she was hinting that I need to tackle it because it’s true! My first session is Friday. I’ve just hopped on the scales to prepare myself and it’s much worse than I’d imagined- 18st+.

I really can’t let my lovely friend know I weigh that much. I’m truly mortified. It’s too late to back out isn’t it? Sad

She doesn't need to know how much you weigh. The only people that know are you and scales woman.

Mosaic123 · 02/01/2019 18:53

I don't think they broadcast what you weigh at slimming clubs. Just how much you lose or gain over each week. Just agree with your friend that the base number will be secret.

Rockbird · 02/01/2019 18:53

Sorry, that was a bit short. Got distracted eating chips Blush

Ishoos · 02/01/2019 18:54

If it’s slimming world or weightwatchers, they won’t annouunce your weight so you’re freind will never know. Do you want to give it a go - if you don’t it’s a waste of the weekly fee!

As someone who was almost 20stone, I say face you fear and do it.

I was always sweating away covered up in the summer as I didn’t want people to see. Looking back at the photos it didn’t matter as it was obvious.

So in the kindest way you friend probably knows what your weight is around. From what I hear the weight in number is private and you can always phone the sliming world leader beforehand for reassurance.

So if you feel ready go for it Flowers Honestly its worth it, you are worth it.

Luvey · 02/01/2019 18:56

Nobody will know how much you weigh other than the lady at the scales. She'll write it down in the back of your book. Your weight is never ever shared with anyone.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 02/01/2019 18:56

Presumably we’ll be together when we weigh though? She might throw a sneaky glance.

madcatladyforever · 02/01/2019 18:56

What does it matter, most people have a pretty good idea how much someone weighs by just looking at them.
They won't tell anyone anyway, each weigh in is confidential and you don't have to tell your friend.
I hit my all time high recently and it's depressing beyond belief. I tell everyone to give myself some incentive.

Chocolatecake12 · 02/01/2019 18:56

I think your friend sounds a fab friend asking you to go with her. She doesn’t have to know. Good luck!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 02/01/2019 18:58

She’s a very fab friend! That’s why I’d be so ashamed if she found out.

Reccy2018 · 02/01/2019 18:59

They set it up so people waiting, can't see! You could always say to your friend that you'd rather keep it a secret too, they sound very understanding and kind to have invited you in this way.

I think go for it, what's the worst that can happen?

HollowTalk · 02/01/2019 19:00

Why would she know? Your weight won't be announced on a tannoy!

Ethel36 · 02/01/2019 19:00

Me too...my jeans getting tight and I got out of breath running after the bin man today! I'm going for a run/walk/slump against some lampposts tomorrow morning to burn some christmas fat!!! Think joining a club will do you the world of good. Good luck.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 02/01/2019 19:06

Ok feeling a bit better. I hope what you say is right!

NewFitMe · 02/01/2019 19:07

I’m sure she wouldn’t care how much you weigh. Like if you find out how much she weighs, what would your reaction be? Probably pretty neutral right? So I can image if she’d find out your weight, she’d be neutral about it too. And more than likely she’s gonna support you as much as she can!

But probably like other people have said, she won’t find out. Do it for your health. We are all here to support you 😊

Don't worry - I walked into a slimming world group with a "skinny" friend in comparison to me with the same fears and I was 20 stone. There's a queue to pay first and a second queue for the scales with usually a cardboard stand up or chairs where you can get ready etc, it's really difficult to see. You could always ask the consultant to write it down and not tell you, they have done that for me before. Or just say to your friend I'll tell you my start weight once we hit our targets :)

Best of luck!

123rd · 02/01/2019 19:22

Also-fingers crosses the first week will be the heaviest and you will just get lighter and lighter...

Everytimeref · 02/01/2019 19:25

No your friend won't find out. You weigh on your own and no one needs to know what you weigh.

Northernlass45 · 02/01/2019 19:26

Best of luck - same thing happened to me and whilst it was nerve-racking the first time I wouldn't be where I am today without them!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 02/01/2019 21:02

Thanks for all the good luck messages. Here’s to being a smaller me very soon! 🥂

Argh! I’ve been really stressing about this today. It’s like knowing you’re going to the dentist, I feel better once it’s over.

Has anyone been a weigh in person themselves? What do you think when a really massive person turns up. I know the PC thing is to say you’re really impressed that they’ve decided to turn things around but a part of you must just think ‘Thank god I’m not them, fatty’ Blush

If it’s slimming world, they won’t announce your weight and it’s veey easy. And the diet is fab! I’ve lost a lot
