Fuck, it’s too late to back out isn’t it?

I’m fat. Very fat. Shortly before Christmas a friend approached me and asked if I’d like to join her at her slimming club in the new year. I know she was hinting that I need to tackle it because it’s true! My first session is Friday. I’ve just hopped on the scales to prepare myself and it’s much worse than I’d imagined- 18st+.

I really can’t let my lovely friend know I weigh that much. I’m truly mortified. It’s too late to back out isn’t it? Sad

Please don't worry, two of the slim helpers at my class have both lost over 4 stone each. Nobody will think you are fat, we are all there to help you loose weight.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 03/01/2019 20:25

It is slimming world yes. I just think of my friend and I are together she might come to the scales with me? Maybe to try and be supportive or something?

Mil is a slimming world leader

The weigh person will just write your weight down on your card , not even say it out loud if you ask

They would never tell anyone else your weight

They won’t judge , and I’m pretty sure they’ve seen it all before ( and people much heavier than you )

Aardvarkitsabloodyaardvark · 03/01/2019 20:39

Have done weigh ins myself. Never judge anyone as we are all there for the same reason. Please try not to worry, good luck to you Flowers

FiveNightsAtMummys · 03/01/2019 20:42

If you do want your friend to see then get infront of her in the que, you'll get weighed first and she'll probably still be paying. If not you could say you don't want to see your weight just yet and cover it up with your book. (I've heard on mumsnet that they do that).

I don't judge anyone who comes in, I'm too worried people will be judging me. I actually love my group, love the characters that come and I like to hear how they have done every week. I started in November and I weighed 14 stone 8 which is my largest. I'm down to 12 stone 12 now about half way to target almost.

ElfrideSwancourt · 03/01/2019 20:43

I've been a weigh-in person - no judgement from us, only support we have been where you are.

It will be set up so your friend can't see your weight - also the digital readout of the scales is quite small so would be v difficult unless standing much too close.

At my group we also had a small screen on the table round the scale readout for extra privacy.

potatoscone · 03/01/2019 20:47

I have weighted people. Genuine pay no attention to what people way and just focus on writing the numbers in the right space

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 03/01/2019 21:05

Thank you. Have you ever had anyone cry at how fat they are? (I won’t- just worried I might!)

OP posts:
tabulahrasa · 03/01/2019 21:34

I’ve been a weigh person at slimming world - on your joining night you’re weighed after existing members one on one by the consultant, so no your friend can’t see.

That’ll give you a chance to see how the weigh in works for next time.

And nope you don’t when weighing people think anything of their weight, firstly nobody joined slimming world because they were fine with their weight and in all honesty, you don’t pay much attention or remember what people weigh, you’re looking for the change that week and just writing it in the book as quickly as you can.

DianaT1969 · 03/01/2019 22:08

On the plus side OP, you are likely to see excellent weightloss in the first few weeks. It seems to slow down as you get closer to goal. You'll be able to pat yourself on the back with 5-8lb weekly weightloss, while others are being strict but seeing half a pound loss. Of course it isn't a race and healthy, sustainable weightloss is the goal. But it's highly motivating to achieve such large losses when you start.
Hope it goes well for you this eve.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 05/01/2019 10:41

Just a little update, I went!

It was ok. There was actually no one behind me at weigh in, they were still at the pay bit. The weigh in lady was very lovely (though she did say my weight out loud!) and told me that was her starting weight too.

So my weight loss journey begins. (Again).

TeaMeBasil · 05/01/2019 10:50

All done! I restarted this week, determined to stick to it!

Am a bit surprised the weigh lady said your weight out loud though! Hopefully she wasn't too loud & she was just trying to be supportive.

TeaMeBasil · 05/01/2019 10:51

Well done that was meant to be! Fat fingers you see! Grin

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 05/01/2019 11:32

No she wasn’t loud, it was more when she was talking to me about me goal weight.

My friend was lovely and I’m going to look forward to meeting with her regularly each week.

Simonsaysitschristmas · 05/01/2019 14:08

So glad you went OP! I have been the weigh in lady before and honestly I was in such a tizz trying to make sure I wrote the correct thing down in the correct place peoples weights did not register with me. I have also seen many MANY people cry over their weight at slimming world and I have never thought anything of it. Remember that everyone in that room wants the same thing as you and we all face the same struggles, it can be a lovely supportive community. I wish you all the best with your weight loss :)

CookPassBabtridge · 05/01/2019 14:12

There will have been hundreds of people weighing what you weigh, you seem to think you're unusual OP!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 05/01/2019 16:42

Good to know cook, thanks.

Wonkydonkey44 · 05/01/2019 16:53

I joined today and really unhappy with my starting number ! But they didn’t announce it and I sat in shame vowing silently in my head that I’m never going to see that number again!
Good luck!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 05/01/2019 17:33

wonkeydonkey I felt like that too! I’m hoping next week I will drop in to the 17s and vow never to see the 18 on the scales ever again. Best of luck ⭐️

OP posts:
Aardvarkitsabloodyaardvark · 05/01/2019 17:38

Well they really shouldn't have said your weight out loud that's not good (I'm guessing slimming world) and that should be addressed with your consultant.
I
That's not in the guidelines that helpers have signed up to

itsboiledeggsagain · 07/01/2019 22:09

Welldone. I really want to know how you get on! What is the food list like? I am thinking of joining next week as it is nearby and might motivate me

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 12/01/2019 16:31

I meant to update yesterday, I lost 3lb. Bit disappointed tbh.

OP posts:
Simonsaysitschristmas · 12/01/2019 16:57

Georgie don’t be disappointed. So easy to compare when you hear of others big losses in the first week but that’s just a reflection of how poorly their diet was before. No one is actually losing 10lb of fat in a week - the majority of it is water weight.

3lb is much more realistic and sustainable. If you keep that up you’ll have a stone off in another 4 weeks which is amazing!!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 12/01/2019 17:46

Thanks you. I’m trying but I know the first week is the best loss so it’s won’t be three pounds every week. I’ll be lucky with one!

OP posts:
tabulahrasa · 12/01/2019 18:57

“I’m trying but I know the first week is the best loss”

Not always, some people get a bigger one the second week, some people don’t get that big one, just nice consistent losses...
