No S diet - would anything like to join me?

Hello!

There used to be a thread on here re the ‘No S’diet. I hope I’m not duplicating, but I can’t see any recent threads on here and I’m about to start tomorrow.

The rules are;

No sweets
No snacks
No seconds

Except on S days (Saturdays, Sundays and Special days like birthdays and Christmas).

It isn’t a quick fix, but theory goes that it’s easy to maintain once you’re in the habit.

I would like to lose a little weight, but breastfeeding seems to be helping me keep my weight down. I’m planning to stop breastfeeding next year, so I need to break some greedy habits I’ve picked up.

Oh sorry, I missed your post there mrs!

That does sound tough. I ate breakfast really late today, but my morning’s activities involved watching my dc at their activity! So not very active at all.

I think the book says you can have four meals in some circumstances? Could that work as a stop gap?

Or could you have a HUGE breakfast first thing and then have a late lunch?

Hi Stonebake (your user name reminds me of pizzaSmile) Im thinking Im going to have a protein bar or something similar ito keep me ticking on till lunch time.

I want to get back on track again & am going to plan for success!!

TombStonebake · 18/10/2018 13:22

Hi all!

I’ve changed my name (as part of the Halloween spooktacular name change thingammy)!

How is everyone getting on today?

mrs, how was your early start?

I’m doing ok, but again ate very late this morning. I had a massive breakfast at about 11. I have no idea what to have for lunch, but I’ll have it at about 2 - 3.

I don’t know if I’m likely to lose any weight at this rate; my meals seem very big... Hopefully when I’m used to just three meals I won’t feel the need to have huge platefuls all the time...

Onemorefortheroad · 18/10/2018 13:29

Hi All

Never joined in anything like this but weighed myself this morning and am 11st 5lbs which is the heaviest I have ever been, except during pregnancy! BMI is 26.4 so aiming to lose a stone by Christmas.

This feels realistic and would interested to hear what other people's meals consist of for ideas!

This morning I have had a bowl of bran flakes and for lunch I had a chicken salad roll and an apple.

TombStonebake · 18/10/2018 13:37

Welcome onemore!

Yesterday I had:

B: quiche, salad, crisps and a banana
L: ham and lentil soup
D: quorn burgers and veg

Today it’s:

B: boiled eggs with toast, a pear and an apple
L: don’t know yet! It’ll be a very late lunch at this rate as I’m still full from breakfast, which was also very late.
D: either paella or curry

No snacks (obviously), but I have been having cups of tea with one sugar. That’s another thing I’ll have to quit eventually, but I’m starting with the basic No S before I start cutting out sugar in tea and work on portion sizes etc.

Mrsbclinton · 18/10/2018 17:31

Tombstone it was ok, I had 2 scrambled eggs & toast.
Managed to last until lunch @ 12 which was turkey salad wrap, chopped pear yogurt & walnuts.
Dinner will be after 6pm as I need to do a drop off, shepards pie & veggies.
Im probably going to get a coffee now to fill me up till dinner!

purple8pig · 18/10/2018 17:43

ooh hello Grin

I had a little go of this the other month but made the mistake of weighing myself daily, didn't see the weight dropping off, so gave up Blush

ive done slimming world for a while and initially lost 2 stone 10 but ive gained back over a stone and a half of that as I have binge eating tendencies (actually think its a disorder due to the amounts, hiding it etc but not been diagnosed)

please can I join in this thread? I think slimming world is good but it doesn't help when you like to binge, as youre always thinking of something that's 'free' that you can eat. whereas with the No S you eat your meal, and that's that.

also on no S I could technically have a KFC (not all the time obv) but I would just class that as my meal so I wouldn't feel as though id blown it and eat crap the rest of the week, which is what I tend to do if I slip up whilst following the slimming world plan!

I will weigh myself in the morning but I think its around the 15 stone mark Blush

misskatamari · 18/10/2018 18:08

Hi everyone, thanks for the welcome, and welcome new joiners. Glad your day went well Mrs. If you do struggle with the early starts I think the idea of having 4 meals is a good one, I guess you'd just make sure two of them were smaller than a normal meal. That way you're prepared for it and don't get really hungry and reach for something not great. Although it sounds like today went well, so if sticking to three is working that's great too.

My day's been okay ish, altho not really winning food wise. Breakfast was yummy overnight oats with almond butter and defrosted raspberries and blueberries, with pumpkin and chia seeds. So tasty. Lunch however was beige beige beige. Dh was off doing decorating so requested some pasty things from morrisons, so I had some too along with some breaded chicken things. I found it quite useful tho as i felt quite gross after eating them as I don't usually eat pastry things, so it will definietly make me more mindful of what i'm choosing to eat. Dinner was pizza and salad, which we had planned in already. I did have a few pieces of persimmon as a snack this afternoon too, but it's day 1 so i'm not beating myself up about it. I think my biggest challenge at the start of this is going to be resisting mindless snacking, e.g. grabbing a biscuit mid afternoon, and snacking in front of the telly in the evening. I hoping a couple of days of resisting them and it will get a lot easier.

On the plus side, my fitbit says i've done 14,000 steps today, walked 11km and had 92 active minutes, so that's good news! I need to weigh myself later (or tomorrow - i hate end of the day weight lol!), I think i'm up near the 14 stone mark and ideally would like to get down to 12. I'm 5'8 so carry it quite well, but i definitely need to slim down and tone up.

Purple - that's what i like about this "diet" - that you can eat foods like KFC without getting all the guilt and stuff associated with it. Obviously we shouldn't eat them everyday (or the foods i've had today), but I find diets like SW just make me have a really unhealthy mindset about food. Like you can eat mullerlights and mugshots til the cows come home but heaven forbid you go near an avocado or some nut butter! (I know they've changed some of that recently but still). I hope everyone else is doing well today x

misskatamari · 18/10/2018 19:58

Aargh this is the tricky time of day for me! Kids are in bed and I want chocolate!! 😬 resist resist resist!

KayM2 · 18/10/2018 20:08

I started a reduced sugar diet about 6 weeks ago. No cereals, no sugar in my porridge, no spuds or rice. very little milk, no cheese. Just natural sugars such as honey ( little dollop in my stirfrys!) . To my surprise I have lost 12 pounds , without effort. Another stone or so to go, but it's the only thing I have done that has worked. Ever. Bounced into it by my daughter.

PoesyCherish · 19/10/2018 08:51

Morning all weighed myself this morning am 8 st 6 lbs which puts my BMI at 22.5

I know it's within the healthy range but I still feel overweight. I think my happy weight is closer to 8 st.

Yesterday was good from a no S perspective. I didn't have any seconds, snacks or sweets. I did have a hot chocolate but then I guess it's the main reason I couldn't completely do no sugar as I love them too much.

Hope you all have a good Friday. It's nearly the weekend - yay!

DontFundHate · 19/10/2018 12:54

Hmmmm I have absolutely no will power at the moment. Probably because I'm so tired with ds2 up all night. Any suggestions? I thought perhaps I could reward myself if I stick to this, there's a very expensive eco conditioner I've got my eye on, maybe I could let myself buy it if I stick to this for X amount of time?

I usually get shopping delivered on a Monday but thinking of changing it to Saturday so I can order some sweet stuff to look forward to which will all be gone by Monday!

Mrsbclinton · 19/10/2018 14:35

Dontfundhate, the tiredness can play havoc, my youngest child was a desperate sleeper and I gained so much weight by eating chocolate with coffee to try and get through the day.
Its hard when you are exhausted but when you break the habit & eat three regular meals you will find the cravings will go.

beela · 19/10/2018 22:47

Hello! I was on the old threads. I've been doing no-s for over 18 months now (ama Grin) and the mn threads really helped me to get going in the beginning.

It has definitely worked for me, I've lost 3 stone Smile

Jamboree87 · 20/10/2018 10:53

Hey lovelies

Think I might also take up this challenge. I've been to Scottish slimmers and got to target but once I had my little one the weight has piled on and then some 🙄 and I don't really want to go back to calorie counting again.

I've been trying to eat mindfully eating when I'm actually hungry which I've lost a wee bit but want a wee bit more structure.

I'm sitting at 12.2 at the moment and want to lose about 2 stone. Xx

PoesyCherish · 20/10/2018 12:01

Wow @beela that's amazing! Did you find it got easier as time went on? How much weight have you lost doing it?

@DontFundHate tiredness is awful. I don't have a DC who doesn't sleep, unfortunately I'm an insomniac and the medication I take to combat that/ depression causes huge drowsiness. I think it's why I put so much weight on as I was using sugar to combat the exhaustion. @Mrsbclinton is right though, it does get easier when you eat proper meals.

@Jamboree87 welcome Smile

I bought the M&S pizza meal deal last night so will be sharing that with DP this evening although we're going to keep the one side for tomorrow's evening meal.

What is everyone else eating this weekend?

beela · 20/10/2018 12:21

@poesycherish yes it does get easier, it's definitely all about habit building.

I have lost 3 stone altogether, it took just over 12 months (I was averaging around 1lb per week) and I have easily maintained ever since. And I didn't have to give anything up CakeWine

It's so hard when you are tired, isn't it? I got into the habit of using sugar for an energy boost when ds was tiny, hence the need to lose 3 stone!

Jamboree87 · 20/10/2018 15:44

I'm having Chinese tonight and mac and cheese tomorrow 😊. I'm so excited to start this see how I fair.

DontFundHate · 21/10/2018 07:44

Well done everyone! I'm going to give this a proper go starting on Monday. What do you all think of my reward for sticking to the plan? I'd like to get a (very...) expensive eco conditioner as a reward for sticking to plan. How long do you think I should stick to it?? Until Xmas?

DontFundHate · 21/10/2018 07:47

Ooh or maybe I could give myself a pound per week I stick to it? That would make more sense wouldn't it. It would take me a long time to afford the conditioner (wow Ive just worked it out... It would take about 2 years!!!!) But I could spend my £s on something nice couldn't I, and it would be nice to be "rewarded" with my £1 every week. I don't want to base anything on weight lost as Im mainly trying to eat healthier

PrivateParkin · 21/10/2018 07:58

Morning all, may I join you? I work at home 50% of the week and the temptation to snack is awful - I have no willpower and end up eating rubbish all day, and then not having a proper lunch. Also we tend to eat our main meal really late (ie about 9-9.30, which is obviously not good in itself) so I'm always starving in the early evening so I snack then as well. It's all a bit of a mess really.

I lurked on your old threads beela but never really got going with No-S, but I'm actually getting worried now about my bad habits! I have never dieted because I don't believe in the rubbish attitude that slimming world etc has (like the example about mug shots etc above) but No-s just seems like a sensible way to eat that I could get on with.

I also have the issue of long days as I travel for work sometimes, and end up eating rubbish then too!!

I have started a "habit tracker" for a few different things recently, and have now added No-S to it, so am planning on giving it a proper go this time. I need to get a grip!

ArabellaUmbrella · 21/10/2018 07:58

Hi I'd like to join please. I did this very successfully a couple of years ago and lost a total of 2 stone (it came off very slowly) but have put almost all of it back on again
Realistically I know this is the only thing that works for me, I just keep putting off going back to it.
I'm going to stay away from the scales, I get obsessed and then give up if I've not lost any weight. I just need to commit to this and make proper lifestyle changes. I'm also going to aim for 3 brisk half hour walks a week.

PrivateParkin · 21/10/2018 08:01

DontFundHate I like your idea of a reward Smile but I think I'd need something more regular myself. Christmas seems a long time to wait. I think your idea of smaller rewards more often is a good one, then you could build up to the bigger treat as well?

fuckitbuckit · 21/10/2018 08:30

Would love to join. I am at 12st8 and 5"4 which gives me a BMI of 30.2!!!? NHS website has just called me obese I am 2 stone 2 pounds from a healthy weight. Would love to be a size 6/8 again but right now I am wearing size 10-12.

I am yet another one who is here because they got into the habit of sugar snacking to cope with lack of newborn sleep. Ignore the fact he is now 2yo
