No S diet - would anything like to join me?

Hello!

There used to be a thread on here re the ‘No S’diet. I hope I’m not duplicating, but I can’t see any recent threads on here and I’m about to start tomorrow.

The rules are;

No sweets
No snacks
No seconds

Except on S days (Saturdays, Sundays and Special days like birthdays and Christmas).

It isn’t a quick fix, but theory goes that it’s easy to maintain once you’re in the habit.

I would like to lose a little weight, but breastfeeding seems to be helping me keep my weight down. I’m planning to stop breastfeeding next year, so I need to break some greedy habits I’ve picked up.

Hello! And welcome all new joiners!

Sorry I have been offline for the past couple of days.

How is everyone doing?

I need to read back through the thread properly, but very pleased to have more company.

I’ve been enjoying my S days. Ready for the start of next week.

TombStonebake · 21/10/2018 10:13

And yep, I can relate to the snacking (on crap) to cope with early days with babies. Nutella was my emotional crutch with dc1 - I ate it with a spoon Blush. I can’t think why I struggled to lose my baby weight Wink.

I like to think I’ve been better with dc2, but I definitely overdo the aeeet stuff.

PoesyCherish · 21/10/2018 11:28

@DontFundHate your reward system sounds fab. The £1 a week sounds like a good idea. How about £1 a week plus another £5 per month you stick it out (or an amount you feel is financially manageable).

Hope your weekends are all going well. I really enjoyed being able to eat dessert yesterday evening. It's nice actually to know I'm only having it once or twice a week now instead of every day.

Jamboree87 · 21/10/2018 11:32

Every week I stick to it I'm going to put what a diet class cost aside it's around £5 a week and every so often by some new clothes with the money! Theory being you'll be buying a smaller size so it will spur you on to continue 😊 xx

DontFundHate · 21/10/2018 13:18

Ooh yes I love the bonus £5 too. I may do £1 per day plus extra £5 per week that I stick to it... I think I'll find this motivating as it will reward me very often. good luck everyone

beela · 21/10/2018 20:29

@fuckitbuckit that was my starting weight and height. I'm still the same height, obviously! But 9st7 now.

I'm impressed that you are fitting into 10-12s, I was pushing a 16 at that weight Blush

fuckitbuckit · 21/10/2018 22:18

@beela I'm pushing a size 14 when I am bloated from AF. Body shape holds all the cards when it comes to where the fat ends up being stored so i bet we just have different shapes. After DC I have gone from my stomach holding nearly all of my fat, to very wide hips and massive boobs.

I am still in shock at the obese result. I am silently hoping that AF has added a few pounds and that is what has tipped me over the 30 BMI threshold

FaithInfinity · 22/10/2018 09:22

Hello, I’m in as well! I tried to bump the old thread a while ago but no-one answered! Confused Tried to go it alone but failed.

I am a sugar addict and binge eater. I am working on the bingeing - I’ve read Brain over binge by Kathryn Hansen and I’m listening to the podcast. I really want to break that habit and I know that no-s is the best way for me. I lost 3st with SW but I felt like I was denying myself all the time. I got ill. comfort ate. Not sure what I weigh - I’ll check in a minute - but I reckon I’m about 12 1/2 stone and at 5ft 4.5 I’m getting back to being obese. I have loads of clothes that are too small. I’ve decided to run a half marathon in the spring so I’m motivated to get running more and eat healthily in conjunction with that.

Jamboree87 · 22/10/2018 16:39

What's everyone doing when they have a snack craving or a wee bit hungry between meals? I've been trying to drink a wee bit more (non alcoholic unfortunately haha) and that's helped a bit but not sure how I'll cope in the evening as that's when I snack the most Xx

DontFundHate · 22/10/2018 18:38

I've been trying to keep distracted. I mainly snack when ds has his afternoon nap but today I kept busy, so no snacking and a tidy house Halloween Grin this evening I brushed my teeth after my main meal, put pjs on and a nice face oil so I feel pamapered and satisfied

You sound so motivated @faithinfinity Star

misskatamari · 22/10/2018 19:20

Welcome to the new joiners :) it's great to all be in the same boat doing this. I've had a good weekend, certainly enjoyed the s days lol! We baked chocolate cookies yesterday and I definitely ate too many, but I have resisted them today which feels like a huge achievement. I did have a satsuma and a dried apricot this afternoon for a snack as if had lunch early so was hungry, but apart from that it's been a success today :) I need to get my breakfasts sorted as today I just had some weetabix, which was fine but I did get hungry quite early on. Must make overnight oats as that really fills me up. I used to love eggs for breakfast but I had my gallbladder out a few months ago and they don't seem to agree with me in the morning anymore.

Someone asked above about tactics to avoid snacking, my main one is to have a hot drink as it seems to really help ward off a craving. I find that especially useful in the evening. My main downfall is snacking (sometimes binge eating) in the evenings once the kids are in bed. It's like a de-stress "must eat chocolate and relax". I really want to break the habit tho, and a nice decaf or herbal tea usually helps a lot. I hope everyone else is having a good day :)

DontFundHate · 22/10/2018 20:03

Oops I forgot to tag @jamboree87 , my post sounds a bit random! It was supposed to be in answer to how I stop snacking Halloween Biscuit

Herbal tea is a great idea too, thanks @misskatamari

DontFundHate · 22/10/2018 20:04

@misskatamari I made a granola at the weekend with whole nuts, oats, spices and maple syrup. I have this throughout the week with natural yoghurt, keeps me full for a long time Smile

FaithInfinity · 22/10/2018 20:28

Failed to run tonight as I’m too tired! I have avoided sugary snacks though, despite there being temptation in the cupboard, we also went out for lunch and I resisted cake even though the children (one mine, two I was looking after) had cake. I was motivated by looking down at my spare tyre! I braved the scales and I’m even heavier than anticipated..12st 13 and I’m only 5’ 4.5”! I said to DH I know this is the right way to go though. I feel less deprived than I did on SW.

I stave off snacking by drinking, I sometimes have flavoured tea like Twinings Gingerbread and dark mint tea, gives the notion of sweetness without sugar. What else do you drink if you don’t have sugar or sweeteners? I get bored of just tea and water!

PrivateParkin · 22/10/2018 20:57

That tea sounds lovely. I like twinings buttermint tea, it's just like Murray mints Smile

Fennel tea is nice too and is supposed to suppress appetite (not sure that works though). I've done ok today, no snacks and no sweets - just about to have dinner (too late, again!).

Hope everyone is doing well.

DontFundHate · 23/10/2018 01:23

Nooo I have a vomiting bug. Next few days should be easy anyway Sad

GoatsInATree · 24/10/2018 14:57

I'd like to join in.
Have been on a couple of No S threads some time ago but life was pretty hectic at that time and I just didn't get stuck in.

Have a history of many, many years of disordered eating.
After trying - and failing at - yet another diet I'm ready to give this a real go.
I know that weight loss won't be fast, coming to terms with that is important for me because I do have a lot to lose, but slow and steady and above all sane weight loss is more important than failing at another strict diet.

PrivateParkin · 24/10/2018 21:29

How is everyone doing? I've managed to do no-S again today, although I did have a coffee with sugar this afternoon (I don't normally take sugar) as I was flagging a bit. I had a long day though and had my breakfast at 6.45, so I was shattered and lacking energy. But not bad all in all.

I stupidly just ventured into the thread about scones and clotted cream, and now I'm craving a scone! Will have to make some at the weekend...

misskatamari · 25/10/2018 09:19

@DontFundHate I hope you're feeling better soon, sickbugs are the worst! Sorry I'm rubbish at tagging people in posts, it's hard to remember usernames when on the phone app. The twinings teas mentioned above sound gorgeous tho, will have to get some. I have a bursting herbal tea cupboard already tho so dh will not be impressed lol. Drinks wise, I'm trying to cut back on fizzy soft drinks. I don't drink many really but dh loves Pepsi Max so I'll usually have a small cup most days. I've started making water kefir and kombucha tho, so am having those more (and hoping they improve my guy health, I've got quite interested in our gut flora and fermented foods after reading a few books on it).

I'm doing pretty well I think. Had a few grapes yesterday morning as a snack, and we did have McDonald's for lunch (treating the kids). I couldn't finish it tho and really didn't enjoy it. I think this is definitely making me more conscious of wanting to eat decent nourishing foods. Ds has a 4am hospital trip to a&e with croup Monday night and I didn't reach for the biscuit tin despite it being a super long knackering day (he's fine now thankfully, just needed some meds to help his breathing). I think my biggest accomplishment this week has been not eating in the evenings. It's usually my downfall but I haven't really be fancying food after dinner. I did have one of our homemade cookies straight after tea last night, so some sugar, but usually if devour about five so I'm classing it as a win

Overall so far I feel like I'm thinking about food less. I'm hoping keeping up with reducing sugar will be a big help in curbing cravings. Thanks to whoever mentioned granola above (again sorry I can't scroll back and check username). I made some a while ago and it was a hit but had forgotten about it, will get the ingredients to make some this weekend :)

Time to brave softplay with the kids. Hope everyone has a good day

FaithInfinity · 25/10/2018 11:02

Get well soon Dontfundhate.

That sounds very controlled misskatamari. Hope your DS is better soon.

I’m doing okay. 4th day back on it, resisted chocolates this morning. The more I do no S, the easier I find it to go without snacks. I still find it tough to quit sugar to start with but the cravings are subsiding now.

fuckitbuckit · 25/10/2018 14:29

We ordered food Monday, went out for dinner Tuesday and ordered food again yesterday . To be fair they were all S days. Probably wasn't the best week for me to start. I am meant to be out for tea again tonight but I'm trying to get out of it.

Shopping delivery is coming later on and there are no snacks to be seen! Today will be my first proper day, let's hope it isn't too hard.

Jamboree87 · 25/10/2018 14:54

I'm finding it not too bad! If I really need a snack I'm having a bit of fruit to keep me going inbetween meals. I only caved once this week and had a packet of skips but it was because I hadn't eaten much during the day so after tea I was still starving.

DontFundHate · 28/10/2018 07:05

@misskatamari I hope your ds is ok now.

Thanks for all the well wishes! Feeling a bit better. Made this week very easy anyway as I've barley eaten anything. But glad to be better to enjoy the weekend a little. Hope you're all enjoying it too. Well done everyone

misskatamari · 29/10/2018 10:04

Thanks @DontFundHate he's still got a bit of a cold but fine in himself thankfully. Glad you're on the mend. Oops I ate waaay too much rubbish this weekend, but I guess that's the thing about this way of eating, it's a slow process of adjusting you're eating long term, without all the guilt of normal diets etc. Have had a few pieces of persimmon this morning as ds was having some but hopefully on it besides that today :)

DontFundHate · 03/11/2018 08:18

How's everyone doing? I've found this week hard, lack of sleep + Halloween sweets = not very successful! Will enjoy the weekend and try again next week
