Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 5

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/06/2018 20:04

Hello, welcome to the fifth instalment (wow!) of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible….........Star 1024lbs Star since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing! Grin Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Fate I still have bran flakes for breakfast but yes no other processed carbs. Thanks for the tip on quorn I'll give it a go.

I've noticed that I no longer have puffy ankles at the end of the day- not sure what's helped but really pleased 😁

I'm looking forward to weighing myself in three weeks. I really hope there's a big difference. Worked out my BMI today and it's about 39 😱 No wonder my knees hate me

But will KOKO

honeysucklejasmine · 03/08/2018 07:31

I wanted to eat all the food last night. I probably went over by a few hundred calories. Hoping it'll be ok though as the difference between the loss goal and maintenance is 800 calories and I certainly didn't eat that many. I am on my period so I guess that's why. I'm pleased I kept it under control though. Small steps.

Going away this weekend. Super stressed about food, because of all the allergies. Still, diet should be ok cause probably won't be much I can eat!

moonlight1705 · 03/08/2018 08:13

Waving to everyone! Sorry I haven't been around in a while. We're in Yorkshire on a mini holiday at the moment to celebrate our first year anniversary. DH and I were originally saving a nice bottle if wine for this but sadly will have to postpone.

So far my holiday eating is not bad, no cake and no wine is helping but have had a few sugary mockails Smile

I'll weigh in when I get back next Monday and catch up with all your posts.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 03/08/2018 19:27

That sounds lovely moonlight Smile and honey I hope you get to enjoy yours too.

stripey hooray for non puffy ankles! Mine have been far less puffy this summer ^^

Well done to all you runners too - the DCs are with ex-DH for this coming week and a bit, so I'm going to up my exercise now my head is firmly back in the game!

I've been very much on track this week - have treated myself to a new book and some yarn, so some reading/crafty times ahead Smile. I have plans for a crochet blanket, but need to make a trial sized version first Blush. I do have to clean at some point....but not tonight studiously avoids cat hair tumbleweed

Halo Top Oatmeal Cookie ice cream is 280 cals for the whole tub. It's really tasty SmileSmileSmile

I ran this morning and covered my furthest ever distance in the time (still slow but great progress for me, so v pleased). Assume I was subconsciously trying to avoid death-by-sun as it was 27 degrees when I started at 09.00 and 29 when I finished 40 mins later. Urgh.

As long as I don't go mad this evening, that's four good food days in a row, which feels like settling back in nicely after our hol. Hope your break is fab Moonlight

fezzesarecool · 03/08/2018 21:31

Ok bought a back pack and figured it’ll hold my water and phone plus will put my weights inside it so sort of like a weighted vest.

Any advice on what I should listen to? Is there anything with music that will also give a signal to when to channge between jogging and walking?

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 03/08/2018 21:47

A back pack is a really good idea fezzes!

I've been looking at various routes this evening, and I think I've found one I can take home from work, that a) would take me about an hour to walk, at a good pace (and I'm a fast walker) and b) won't end up in too many unsavoury neighbourhoods along the way.

Reckon a backpack and my lightweight trainers would make things much easier - going to try it on my way home on Monday Smile

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 03/08/2018 21:48

And by back pack, I mean 'borrowing' DD's old schoolbag. It's a nondescript Trespass one, I think I should be able to get away with it Wink not DS's Minecraft one

Lol mines a plain black one £4 out of Tesco School shop, I thought if this doesn’t turnt out to be my thing it won’t be a wasted purchase

Let me know how’s it goes, I’m out tomorrow night and working Sunday. So I’m either going to try this week or wait till holiday the next week, not sure yet.

Also if anyone’s looking go get some basic clothes for now, the non talented sewing people like me, Peacocks have a extra 15% off so I’ve picked up some tshirts for £3.40.

MagicKeysToAsda · 03/08/2018 22:01

The NHS live well ap talks you through when to walk / jog. It doesn't have music, so you play your own but the ap speaks over it whenever it needs to tell you you've got one minute to go, or you're halfway, or whatever. It's free to download, you choose the voice, and it does all the thinking for you Wink

We should all compare playlists! Mine is very, very cheesy. "The final countdown" is what gets me through the last five minutes Grin I know other people listen to audiobooks.

fezzesarecool · 03/08/2018 22:20

Mine will be the kids playlist, so Trolls and various Disney tunes!

Thanks I’ll look at the app

fezzesarecool · 03/08/2018 22:26

Sorry, got the app but where’s the running program?

MagicKeysToAsda · 03/08/2018 22:41

It's here: www.nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/couch-to-5k.aspx sorry think I got the name of it wrong in my last post

fezzesarecool · 03/08/2018 22:46

Found it, very impressed with the app!

Like I said, not 100% this is for me but loving the app

FATEdestiny · 03/08/2018 23:03

I would recommend the NHS Couch to 5K podcasts, here:

www.nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/Couch-to-5K-running-plan.aspx

They have speciality designed music to run to, which specific tempos. As well as this it includes brilliant coaching and tips along the way - to tell you when you to run/walk, time checks for how long left and recommendations and tips for good running styles.

I would also think twice about running with weights. Focus on completing runs in full and removing any barriers to you completing.

If you feel the need to run with lots of water, while this is fine it might be worth realising that thus is almost all physiological. You don't need to drink this amount during exercise, you just think you do.

I'd your running over one hour non-stop and are sweating profusely, then you might sweat maybe 100ml - but that's all. Really it is. You don't need to drink during a run*, you don't physically sweat that much. You're not going you suffer any ill-effects by not drinking for an hour, as long as your well hydrated for the rest of the day.

It's much easier you run (or for any exercise) without water sloshing around in your tummy. That water in your stomach will just slow you down and won't help you in any way (aside from psychological).

I run 5-10k every morning having not eaten since 6pm the previous night and having only drank 1 cup of tea in the morning. I then have a cold 1.5 litre beaker of squash waiting for my in the fridge when I get home, and have at least another 1.5l throughout the day.

  • full disclosure. You don't need to drink during a run unless it's over an hour constant running or or if it's 5k and very, very hot. I take two 125ml beakers if it's very hot or I'm running over 10k and only drink 125ml per hour, so my stomach isn't too full.
fezzesarecool · 03/08/2018 23:48

FATEdestiny Thanks for the tips.

Sorry at this point I should say the the whole running thing isn’t about me doing 5k at the end of it. It’s about exploring another exercise option, getting confident and use to my body and what I can now do fitness wise.

If I do take to it and complete it great but if I’m happy at a certain week and want to carry on but not going above that level then that’s fine too.

I’m not putting myself under any pressure as in I must complete this and my whole weight loss journey is about no pressure, let’s just see what I can do sort of thing. So now the playing around’s come into it, Clubercise, jogging and dance classes to just see.

Waterwise great advice but in my case I’ve always drink at least a litre durning exercise because of my medical condition and the Drs advice regarding that and having that in my stomach during that time is comfortable. However I will look at that again if I choose to go to the higher level.

The weights I will definitely be using, that’s a total non negotiable. My long term goal is to build muscle and fitness trainers advice is to use a weighted vest or a weighted ruck sack. I’ve built up my level to the amount I can use and I’ve checked the limits that are advised for running, or in my case a jog! Lol

All exercise I do have always included weights and I’ve seen the difference in my strength and endurance in my every day life because of it.

Sorry if I’m being a bit negative but I’ve been thinking about this for a while and this is the way I’m looking to do it to suit my needs.

I’ll definitely be playing around with the different apps in the meantime though, thank you. I also found local running clubs too if this does turn out to be my thing.

I’m thinking I need to have a type of exercise for School time, which is my DVDs , something fun and something for the school holidays. This summer’s turning into a bit of practice now for whats going to suit when I get to maintenance.

fezzesarecool · 04/08/2018 00:00

Really what I’m saying in a very long winded way is that I’m really happy with my DVDs. The exercising in public stuff is primarily proving to myself that I’m now becoming a ‘normal’ sized person with a better fitness level.

It’s about me seeing myself for how I really am now and challenging myself to be brave by getting outside my comfort zone.

PostNotInHaste · 04/08/2018 06:38

Lovely looking ankle there Tractors! Mine have been much better this summer, puffy yesterday evening after a day of travelling and scales showed a 7lb gain. A bit horrifying for a moment but I need to put money where my mouth is , not panic anf know it’s water as I went over a bit on 3 days but nowhere near enough to put that on.

I’m fine with eating carbs but generally do limit them a bit and this week turned into a carb fest at times which actually I didn’t massively enjoy so actually looking forward to lots of fruit and veg this weekend. Want to be as healthy as poss for Tuesday and Hospital. It was so hot just couldn’t face running over there and didn’t see many who were so going to Parkrun slowly today, good chance to catch up with a couple of people too.

I need water when I run , not to drink particularly (though I do sip it a bit when very hot) but to throw over my beetroot sweaty face! Have a couple of running albums downloaded and work my way through that. Favourites on them are Eye of the Tiger, G And Roses Sweet Child of Mine and Adele Rolling in the Deep. I listen to the playlists when walking too as am not a naturallynfast walker and have tendency to dawdle . Belt is made of legging cut up the centre and ends sown together which works well.

honeysucklejasmine · 04/08/2018 09:22

Morning all. Weighing in early this week as we're going away this weekend.

Loss this week: 1.75lbs
Total lost: 63.75lbs (over 4.5 stones)
To lose: 39lbs

I don't drink when I'm doing C25K. I have a drink when I get back - I don't like to exercise on a full stomach. I know exactly what you mean, FATE, about water sloshing around.

Right. Wish me luck. Staying with the ILs. MIL is renowned for cooking a huge tonne of meat and barely any vegetables - hang over if three teenage boys I think - so will be doing my best to stick to goal.

Overall I think I will be aiming to maintain this week.

fezzesarecool · 04/08/2018 10:40

Start 278

Last week 198
Week 23 Exercise Week 19 Calorie counting
This week 197

Week loss -1
Total loss -80

Goal 136lb
Left to lose 66lb
Start to lose 142lb

Quick weigh in, 1 pound down, very happy especially as I again I didnt get any exercise in this week and due to circumstances had some maintenance calorie days.

Had a realisation of how much difference a couple of pounds really make. I bought a size 18 tshirt a few weeks back which was clingy on my lumps and bumps and now -3/4 pounds later it is much less clingy.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. Tonight is my official night off plan and I won’t be logging into mfp. Fingers crossed I get a wow moment at the Hen and if not a few vodkas will help me get over that!

AChickenCalledKorma · 04/08/2018 11:53

I think it's time I came and joined you all, if that's OK. Just back from a family holiday where my excess weight really stopped me joining in fully. For the first time, my 12 year old exercise-phobic daughter was leaving me behind. I'm struggling in the heat, struggling to get up hills, got permanently sore feet and my weight continues to climb slowly upwards.

Currently at 128kg (just over 20 stone) and I know this can't go on.

I did manage to lose a few kg last year and then my mum died just after Christmas. Emotional eating has helped me pile it all back on and then some. Ironically, it was obesity related conditions that killed her and I need to face up to the fact that if I don't do something, my daughters could be grieving for me at a much too early age Sad.

It's very good to be able to be in contact with others who understand. Looking forward to getting to know you better.

On the bright side, I actually lost 1.5kg on holiday, as a result of trying to keep up with everyone and eating less ice cream than they did!!

fezzesarecool · 04/08/2018 11:58

AChickenCalledKorma Welcome and we’ll done on your loss so far.

Everyone on here is doing different things the main thing is that we’re in it together and we can do this.

MagicKeysToAsda · 04/08/2018 13:29

Welcome Korma I know what you mean - you can totally do this, last summer I was over 19 stone and this year almost down to 14. I'm so sorry you lost your mum, I can only imagine how hard that must still be. My mum is in poor health and has had 2 serious scares, also related to weight, so my reasons for trying to get control of this are the same as yours really.

I am far from the fastest or biggest loser on here, but steadily chipping away at it, and starting to really enjoy feeling different. I am still moaning about the heat Grin but I was faster up a hill than my 6 year old the other day!

Is there one thing you'd like to focus on first, or what approach do you think would fit best for you? As Fezzes said, we're not all doing the same thing but I think we're each happy with how things are going. It's finding that mythical balance between something that gets results, and something we can commit to very long term.

honeysucklejasmine · 04/08/2018 13:47

Hi Korma, welcome. Well done on your first step! 1.5kg loss is fab! This is very much the long haul so we really do need to focus on just the few pounds in front of us. It's nice to step back and look at the big picture now and then, but that can be really overwhelming so it's good to focus small. You say you're just over 20 stone. How much do you need to lose so you're 20 stone exactly? Focus on that, get to it, wave goodbye to 20 stone forever, and enjoy being in the 19s. Grin

AChickenCalledKorma · 04/08/2018 14:30

Thanks for the welcome. It's good to read that people are succeeding in losing some significant amounts. (And on the other hand, honeysucklejasmine it turns out that I only need to lose 2 pounds to get back under 20 stone, so that probably counts as a manageable first target!)

Whenever I've managed to lose weight in the past, it's been because I've been tracking what I eat. I've dusted off the FitBit app on my phone and I'll see how I get on with getting back into that habit. What I haven't really tried before is finding other people to support me. My husband is slim and fit and has no emotional issues with food whatsoever. Conversations about losing weight always go badly because he doesn't understand why it's hard and I get upset very quickly.

So here I am to try and find a community of people that "get it"!
