Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 5

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/06/2018 20:04

Hello, welcome to the fifth instalment (wow!) of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible….........Star 1024lbs Star since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing! Grin Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

AnotherOtter - you can do it Smile

notanurse2017 · 23/07/2018 10:21

FATE - what amazing statistics! You've done so well.

notanurse2017 · 23/07/2018 10:22

B1rdonawire - size 14 swimming cossie is wonderful. Hope you have a great holiday.

jingscrivvens · 23/07/2018 10:28

Oh Scarlett good luck with the potty training! It's tough at the start but keep with it and you'll be grand. Mind you DS was 3.5 before he potty trained but got it in a couple of days, had had about 6 aborted attempts before that Blush.

I had a calorie filled weekend that had been planned beforehand so as much as I could've prob eaten slightly less (looking at you the 2 mini pork pies that were in the fridge and bag of popcorn that found its way into my mouth) I'm not beating myself up about it too much. I don't weigh until Wed so will wait and see how it goes. But KOKO this week, seeing if I can increase to 4 jogs this week. Will decide come tomorrow and how my legs are after tonight!

Have a great Monday everyone!

ChickenFriedMice · 23/07/2018 12:15

I've finally weighed myself for a proper figure.

Starting weight
328lbs Sad
23st 6lbs

The last time I'll see it! You are all so inspiring I know I can do it too.

Punta · 23/07/2018 12:35

Wow just found this group and really motivated by the posts I have seen so far. Here’s mine:

Start weight early May 251 lbs (I was a bit more before that but I couldn’t bring myself to weigh myself)
Today’s weight 223lbs

Loss so far - 28lbs

I am going on holiday tomorrow for the summer and my target was to get under 16 stone so I have just hit my short term target - yay!

I have been following mainly a low carb diet and walking the dog that I got early in May twice or three times a day.

I will also be adding swimming into my daily routine now I don’t feel too big to get into my swimming costume!

I am hoping to lose another 10 lbs to a stone over the next 6 weeks and perhaps even down nearer to 200 lbs but the end of September. That’s my new short term target.

strawberrypig · 23/07/2018 22:45

Hello all the new peeps, you too will be total losers if you hang out with us! Too many posts today to name check but I am in awe of you lot who have managed to lose so much and have such great NSVs.

I had the most amazing NSV today, a lady I work with came up to me today and said that she had started to try and lose weight as she was so inspired by my weight loss! I haven't announced I am on a diet, so this was lovely and this was the first that someone has noticed my weight loss apart from my mum!

Stripeybum · 24/07/2018 00:02

B1rd and Fate wow just wow!! Amazing 🙏🏻

And all of us for either sticking to plan or jumping straight back on the wagon if you fall. I find that the hardest, someone said earlier that they've noticed naturally slim people do this. I must get into this habit too.

You are all so welcoming. I'm going to stick to it this time. Definitely. Oh and another thing is I can't drink alcohol at the moment (medication) and I'm hoping that will help especially as if I was a bit tipsy I'd stuff the diet and eat for Britain 😔

KOKO

What a lovely complement, strawberrypig.

My DH has recently started losing weight (he has a few life limiting conditions) and I read a letter from his consultant to his GP. It said "Mr notanurse17's wife has recently lost a significant amount of weight and changed her lifestyle and this has inspired him to do the same". I was really quite proud of that.

ChickenFriedMice · 24/07/2018 13:16

notanurse that's lovely that you've inspired change, so definitely be proud of yourself! You too strawberry Smile

I'm very down in the dumps today, not sure why. Dc's have been ill so I hope I'm not coming down with it too.

notanurse2017 · 24/07/2018 14:02

ChickenFried, have your dcs got a v and d bug by any chance? There seems to be a lot of bugs going round, hope they recover soon.

Just wondering what everyone’s opinions are on buying smaller sizes?

So just got through the nightmare that was finding something for the Hen night. I’m currently a size 18-20 depending on the shop.

I got the gold skirt that I posted about earlier and it was £52 down to £6 and as I really love it, for that price ordered it again in a 16 for later as I’m bigger in my bottom half.

Now I’m looking around and there’s sales on and in general seeing stuff I like and very tempted to order 14 or 12 for later.

I’ve cleared out most of my wardrobe and currently have 1 pair of jeans, 1 pair of cropped jean and 3/4 tshirts that fit me. I plan just to buy a few basics to see me over every season until I get to goal.

But like I said I’m seeing stuff I really love now that I know later on I won’t be able to get. Is it a good idea?

fezzesarecool · 24/07/2018 16:20

In general I’m wearing my big clothes at home and saving the things that fit for when I leave the house!

I will add to my basics in a couple of weeks before holiday which should last me till winter

honeysucklejasmine · 24/07/2018 16:38

Fezzes I am exactly the same. I'm currently wearing size 18 trousers and a size 20 vest top. I think I'm a 16-18 shop depending. I have bought one t shirt in a 12, and I am constantly browsing clothes and putting size 12s in my basket. Haven't bought them yet though. I don't object to doing so but we're quite poor so best to wait until I actually need them, and hope they are in the sale in the mean time.

I have a few skirts I've made, by cutting down old dresses. I'm now gradually taking them in as I go, so that's a cheap way to still have nice clothes. "Take them in" is literally sew down the sides and cut off the excess fabric. Takes about 2 minutes.

fezzesarecool · 24/07/2018 17:01

honeysucklejasmine My problem is that I find it very hard to resist a bargain! I have a spare cupboard full of clothes for the kids in the next size up so I’m very tempted to add small sizes of anything nice I see now the sales are on!

Wish I had your skills, no way could I attempt any taking in. I have a couple of nice things in my big size that I will be taking to a dress maker at some point to see if they can be saved

strawberrypig · 24/07/2018 18:16

It's bras that I'm umming about, I have mahoooosive boobs so they are shrinking rapidly. Bras are so expensive though so really not buying a new bra every few weeks.

fezzesarecool · 24/07/2018 18:54

I’ve got a sports bra for at home, it’s taking ages for my boobs to shrink though I’ve got a m and s gift card and thought I’d save it for bras

FATEdestiny · 24/07/2018 19:19

I'm going down a bra size about every month. My cup size isn't shrinking though, just my chest measurement.

I'm finding the ASDA £4 bra a godsend. Cheap and cheerful, but do the job. I also run daily, so need sports bras as well as normal bras. The saving grace with sports bras is they come in sizes like S/M/L/XL - so last a range of different bra sizes.

My last bras, about 3 weeks ago, were 34F (I was wearing 46D when I first started dieting in January). I'm currently measuring 33"chest so may need to go down again soon. But for sports bras, I've been in Medium since being a 36" chest and dont feel they are too big yet.

I then keep my now-too-big sports bras for just when lounging around at home.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 24/07/2018 19:29

I’m not buying smaller clothes yet - I’m just using a belt with work dresses for a bit. I’ll review once I’ve lost more!

fezzesarecool · 24/07/2018 19:45

NoTractorsAtTheTable You’re so good!

I think it’s just that because I had trouble buying something for this event and reading on the style board about wardrobe culling and how to build it into clothes you love has got me itching to buy

Until now I didn’t want to buy any smaller sizes at all as I’m still in the 20’s

It’s a shame that I It’s a couple of my bigger clothes I really love them and I know I definitely won’t get that sort of thing again so I’m on the fence

MagicKeysToAsda · 24/07/2018 21:25

(Name-change from B1rd Smile)

I haven't needed to buy many clothes - I had 2 pairs of jeans in an 18 that were the clothes that confronted me with the NEED to lose weight when I ordered them and couldn't get them on. So I worked towards them, and then when they got too loose, bought a size 16 pair from the supermarket. I have one skirt in that size too. Otherwise it's sagging leggings or jersey dresses that are big but still wearable. I did buy 3 new smaller work tops because the old ones were gaping rather a lot and I thought I might scare my young impressionable co-workers Grin Still wear the loose stuff at home or on weekends though, and recently cut the legs off one of those pairs of size 18 jeans to make some emergency shorts (fine with a belt).

I guess we have a small house so I'm probably over-focused on keeping a lid on "stuff" - I get twitchy if I know the cupboards are over-full. Not very good at applying the same principles to the kitchen cupboards though...

FATEdestiny · 25/07/2018 08:53

As I've been losing weight, I've had loads of stuff given to me.

My best friend dieted from Size 18 to size 10 last year and has maintained, so she's given me a load of clothes slimmed out of. My mother-in-law hovers around the sizes 12-14 range and is something of a clothes hoarder. She had a wardrobe clear out to give me loads of stuff. Then my friend dieted several years ago down to a size 14 but is now in sizes 20+, she has offered me her smaller clothes if I want them.

I have a young family (4 children aged 3-13) so it's not dissimilar to passing grown out of children's clothes to other families. We're fairly low income so it's always been the way.

Therefore I have far too many clothes in smaller sizes, but have bought myself very little!

LellyM · 25/07/2018 10:42

Hi folks,

mind if I join you? I am sitting here with around 110 lbs to lose and any support will be very welcome. I have already lost about 38lbs since January but right now I seem to have ground to a halt.

In truth I don't think I could eat any less. I will try to cut out alcohol as well for a while to see if that kick starts things. I don't drink a lot but I do like a glass of red wine......

Exercise is difficult to fit in as I leave the house at 7am and get home 12 hours (or more) later.

Right now I am trying to log everything I eat or drink on an app to see how I fare. The app has given me a calorie target for each day and so far, 2 days in, I am eating less than target so it should work.

So lets see how it goes eh?

Lel.

MagicKeysToAsda · 25/07/2018 11:08

Hi Lelly sounds like you've made good progress so far, well done! I hear you about the long days. It was about 8/9 months into changed eating habits before I managed to fit in any exercise, and it remains a challenge. I think lots of people on here have tried different ways to squeeze it into very limited time - home exercise options, or running (because you can literally start from your front door if you don't have nosy neighbours so don't have any travel time) seem to be the favourites.

Hope you have a really good day.

keyboardjellyfish · 25/07/2018 11:19

Hello all! Hope its ok to join in. I am currently 16 and a half stone and would like to get down to 8 and a half stone, so 8 stone/112lb to lose. I am 5ft and currently look a bit like a beachball. I have PCOS so I need to be careful with different foods etc. I'm going to be seeing a personal trainer and then doing couch to 5k
