Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 4

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 13/03/2018 21:12

Hello, welcome to the fourth instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost 869 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing! Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Well done B1rd and keep going Nick it will pay off

Hope you're feeling better soon Post. I just did Wk 8 and still can't quite believe I can run for that long and love the high I get for the rest of the day. Wish my face wasn't a beetroot colour thoughGrin

nicknamehelp · 07/05/2018 14:55

Back in hospital with dd but determined to keep on track and not eat shoo out of choc. Think heat may help as not got much of an appetite.

honeysucklejasmine · 07/05/2018 15:47

Poor DD nickname. Does she have an ongoing condition? (Obviously don't say what it is unless you want to). My cousin's children are frequent flyers too, it's a huge strain.

We're messing about in the garden today. Have finally managed to install the vine eyes for my wire trellis. Just need to put the actual wire on, then train the plants up and on... Argh!

nicknamehelp · 07/05/2018 15:51

Yes she has complex issues and is well known on local children's ward been in and out for 10 yrs it never gets easier which being an emotional eater is one reason I'm on this thread with 100 plus lbs to loose.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/05/2018 19:45

Popping in quickly to wish your dd well nickname - hope you're home soon.

Also, to admit I've had 2 Calippos today Blush - horribly sugary but as they are only 100kcal each, and when everyone else around me has been scoffing pints of Ben and Jerrys, it feels like they were a more sensible choice.

Ta NoTractors looking like a long stay

B1rdonawire · 07/05/2018 21:06

Hope your DD has a comfortable night Nickname - and you too!

ScaredPAD · 07/05/2018 22:19

B1rd wow well done! I love hearing the successes here.
Nickname - I hope it will go as well as these things can go x

I had success at the BBQ. I said to myself I couild eat (some of) anything if i really truky wanted it. I did have a hot dog (it was yummy) but filles up on salad and melon. Quite happy not to have ice cream or cake as realised I didn't actually fancy it.

I'm realising how stuffed I used to feel after every meal and this not-stuffed feeling is new for me.

honeysucklejasmine · 07/05/2018 22:44

Well done scared! Glad you had a successful day, it's a great feeling!

Hope this stay isn't too long nickname

ScaredPAD · 08/05/2018 09:49

Weighed today
First 2lb off!
109 to go....

I didn't lose the first week so I suppose it evens out to a lb a week. I've got so many thoughts on my head at the beginning of this journey -

  • I thought I'd lose quickly to begin with and I haven't as everyone days you drop when you start.
  • I'm eating so much better and exercising more (I guess it's still not much but moving from inactive to lightly active I guess) and I'm not losing much.
  • Also doubting if it's a "real" loss. It might be because I ate less yesterday and in reality I'm not losing anything....

I'm panicky even though it was good. I want to weigh weekly to be accountable and to see progress and to deal with these emotions but I'm so scared I'm a failure and can't do this.

nicknamehelp · 08/05/2018 09:56

Ta all was a v hot sticky night with not much sleep as she wasn't too good from 2am so it was lights on and a room full of doctors and nurses! But she seems a bit better this morning. Now waiting ward round. So far I have resisted emptying shop of choc and have c.c everything.

AnotherOtter · 08/05/2018 12:20

Congratulations on the milestones, Honey and B1rd. Well done! Smile

The jump in times from week to the next in C25K looks like a shock on paper but there is some magic sauce in the programme that makes it doable. I tell myself this but not at all convinced I can do 20 minutes in ten days. How are you doing with week three, B1rd?

Hope you feel better soon, Post Thanks Sounds like a stressful living situation.

Really sorry to hear about your wee girl, Nickname Thanks Hope she is better and back home as soon as possible.

Scared, losing weight is an emotional rollercoaster I find and especially if you have a tendency to self-doubt and second guessing yourself. You can only try your best with the information and energy you have just now. Be kind to yourself. As Maya Angelou said, "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better".

MegJoBethAmyMarch · 08/05/2018 12:55

This is my first post ever on Mumsnet although I have been following various threads for a long time, and this one in particular since October when I decided to lose the 103.5 lbs I need to get down to a healthy BMI.

Is it OK to join you? I am feeling a bit glum as my weight loss has slowed right down to next to nothing although I have stuck to the diet. Am calorie counting using the NHS figure (eating no more than the lower end of the range) and monitoring via MFP.

28.5 weeks in -
Loss to date: 45.5 lbs
Left to lose: 58 lbs

I am in awe of those of you who are further along the road and have, presumably, worked through times like these. Can I expect a "whoosh" if I KOKO, or should I have a week on maintenance (and is that the top end of the NHS calorie range?)?

Advice would be really welcome...

ScaredPAD · 08/05/2018 14:34

Meg I don't know the answers as I'm just beginning but that's an incredible weight loss in that time - I'm so impressed!! I hope I can do similar. I've a similar amount to lose - are you in smaller clothes? Can you feel the difference? I'm cheering for you as you're so far ahead of where I am it looks amazing! Any tips? Was it linear progress or did it jump about?

Nickname so sorry about your little girl - go easy on yourself, the stress must be incredible ((((nickname))))

Another I am so impressed! Well done with the running. And thanks for the encouragement I have to believe in giving this a shot and remember I'm in it for the long long haul when I really want fast results. It's not a quick fix.

moonlight1705 · 08/05/2018 14:59

scared I'm a bit like you....I never lose in a big whoosh but if you think 1lb a week will be 3 1/2 stone in a year then it feels better.

Meg - welcome, I love your name! Well done getting this far, you must feel so proud.

Nickname hope your DD is ok today - at least the weather is meant to be getting cooler from today onward.

Tractors I had two fruit pastel lollies over the weekend - they were so lovely and not ice-cream so am feeling pretty pleased about that choice. Callipos are my absolute favourite!

Chesty - amazing!! 50lb is such an achievement - hope you are celebrating in a non-foody way Smile

Post You seem to be doing so well especially with a crowded house. How has it been this week after all that nice weather? Hope everyone has been out sunning themselves.

Another & B1rd I tried C25K and found it ok until I reached about week 4 then struggled through to week 7 whereupon it became easier again for some reason. I have not continued as I realise I actively hate running - it doesn't do anything for my mood. Now I've found my sport elsewhere and am actually enjoying short bursts of running (across a large room and back). Well done for keeping it going though.

Sorry if I've missed anyone, this thread is moving on so quickly. I've got a dinner party tonight so am making a healthy lasagne with salad and then as a treat I've made a 150 calorie rhubarb and ginger creme brule. Grin

MegJoBethAmyMarch · 08/05/2018 15:15

Scared - Thanks and yes I have bought a few items in a smaller size to tide me over and it feels great! I am using safety pins with some of my work clothes, but it is when I wear the new stuff that people notice. And yes I can feel the difference. Until recently, the weight has come off every 7-9 days, but has definitely slowed down in the last month.

Moonlight - Your comment is helping me put my current frustration at my lack of recent progress into perspective, so thank you!

honeysucklejasmine · 08/05/2018 18:09

Wow Meg that's amazing! You've made fantastic progress already! I don't know anything about the NHS calorie allowances, I use mfp.

Scared don't let fear of failure stop you attempting things, especially because you've actually lost weight.

Will type more later but DD has the mischief today and I need to stop her killing herself.

PostNotInHaste · 08/05/2018 20:14

That’s great BreakingSad, I agree about the feeling after and sympathise on the beetroot front! Envy those who gently glow.

Nicknamehelp really sorry about your DD, glad she was a bit better this morning and hope she has continued to improve through out the day. I think you are doing incredibly to be even thinking of this in the circumstances Flowers

NoTractors we should probably gave a lolly list for this weather. I like a Solero when I can get them , 98 for the Exotic ones I think. What does everyone else have ?

AnotherOtter you can do 20 mins in 10 days time ! It is a bit like some weird magic as it only seems like a few days where 60 seconds was horrendous but it does work.

Scared I was expecting the big loss thing at the start and it didn’t happen , I got a pound which was a touch deflating and I had to shift a stone to get referred for Surgery. You can do this, it will take a long time but that’s good asc it gives you plenty of time to become more confident with it and gradually change habits. It is bloody scary being faced with a large amount of weight to lose, especially if you have tried before, lost then regained. But you can’t do anything about that, only about what comes next.

Welcome MegJo, that is brilliant. I’ve found it does go phases where it goes a bit weird but sorts itself out again, often with a whoosh. What are your figures for April? I Think a week or two at maintenance can really help. With the NHS figures are they the ones off the BMI calculator? I use my Fitbit but it correlates pretty well with tdeecalculator.net/ figures.

Moonlight that sounds highly tasty, wish I was coming !

Honeysuckle that sounds like hard work.

Been a hard day as I am so tired I've not eaten like a saint but then I've not hinges and dh left work early so I could have an hour in the gym. Which did me good. Hoping we will get home tomorrow tea time.

nicknamehelp · 09/05/2018 19:17

Meant also to add thanks for your support ive really appreciated it last few days - had more support on here than in real life but that's a whole other thread!

honeysucklejasmine · 09/05/2018 19:25

Hey. Also had a difficult day - I am really getting worn down by trying to feed DS. But he's pleased me greatly by wolfing down his dinner (veggiechick.com/slow-cooker-thai-yellow-curry-vegan/ with rice noodles) and is currently trying to ram blueberries in to his mouth. What a relief. He's just crying when faced with food most of the time, bless him.

Dinner was nice though.

B1rdonawire · 09/05/2018 20:39

Nickname you must be shattered. Glad to hear things are heading in the right direction for your DD. I know things never run quite to plan in hosp, but crossing my fingers you all manage to get back home tomorrow.

Honeysuckle that is so good about DS's meal tonight. All of the different restrictions sound incredibly hard, on you both, no wonder it's a strain on you.

MegJoBethAmyMarch · 09/05/2018 22:01

PostNotInHaste Thanks for confirming that it can go a bit weird. I lost 3.5 lbs in April, instead of half a stone which I had got used to! And May is proving even slower and more frustrating so far - actually up from the end of the month without a dip again. I've been through the menopause so it's not that.
I have been thinking about a week at maintenance. It's great to know that it can work - and about the tdee calculator and what calories to go to to maintain. I'm going to stick it out for a few more days and then if nothing changes up the calories.

notanurse Thanks for your encouragement. Smile

Hi all, sounds like everyone is doing well! NickName thinking of you and DD!

I’m looking for a bit of Fitbit advice! The above picture is a screenshot of my dashboard. My problem is, the calories burnt looks so high! The same put into MFP is about 30% of those calories and I’m just wondering how seriously I should take it. Is it because I’m extremely heavy to begin with so will burn more anyway or did the last spin in the washing machine mess it up (although it was similar before!)
