Pcos

Shnazzyshot · 24/01/2018 14:28

I've recently been told I have pcos. I know it's slightly harder to loose weight when you have this but I'm really struggling.

About a month ago I cut out all my binge eating and all snacks. I just eat 3 meals a day. I have no self
Control so if I have a snack, I will just keep snacking so the easiest thing for me is to not snack at all.

I've also joined the gym, started running and do hiit workouts at home.

No alcohol since I started.

Why am I not loosing any weight?

An example of what I'm eating...

Beakfaat... pancakes made with eggs, banana and protein powder

Lunch... roasted courgettes, peppers and onions with chicken in a high protein wrap.

Dinner shepards pie made with carrot and swede mash and broccoli and cauliflower.

I've honestly cut my food intake in half. I would easily eat a multi pack of chocolates in one sitting. Loads of junk every day.

Any advice?

@JaimesGoldenHand

If you're looking to low carb, go for the full fat yoghurt, not the 0%. A low carb diet is a high fat one

Shnazzyshot · 29/01/2018 13:20

Biwi is right. You need to have fat if you are cutting carbs.

I had chicken roasted veg and mozzarella for lunch.

I'm having steak and veg for dinner.

I had to laugh at the fact your avoiding coffee because it will make you want cake Grin you can put cream in your coffee if you are low carbing.

Itwentinmyeye, of course, everyone's welcome. How are you getting on with your diet so far?

JaimesGoldenHand · 29/01/2018 13:50

Thanks re yoghurt - I find it very hard to break the low fat habit! Plus am using up whatever I had in the house.

Lunch ended up being a pretty substantial portion of grilled turkey, plus salad and veg, including bean salad. Then a satsuma and a banana. Banana probably wasn't a brilliant choice. Cup of tea, rather than coffee (same reason!) afterwards.

ItWentInMyEye · 29/01/2018 17:55

My diet is going well thanks Smile my downfall is a glass of wine when the kids go to bed a few times a week! I've been having a different soup every lunch too which fills me up and I have a small cup as a snack between lunch and dinner if I'm still hungry.

ItWentInMyEye · 29/01/2018 17:55

Home made soup btw! Whatever I have in to make with.

welshmist · 29/01/2018 18:03

Can I ask how many calories in high protein powders?

BIWI · 29/01/2018 20:39

@JaimesGoldenHand - no the banana wasn't a good choice for low carbing! It's one of the carbiest fruits you could have chosen.

@welshmist - that will depend entirely on the brand/type you choose

Shnazzyshot · 30/01/2018 07:45

Well I weighed myself and I've already lost 1lb from low carving yesterday!Shock

Itwentinmyeye, I do love a homemade soup. Haven't made soup for ages actually so might have to make some soon.

PCOS is a bitch. If I want to lose weight then carbs have to be cut back seriously. I am with SW luckily my consultant also has PCOS she agrees with me that it is blooming hard. A good plan to follow is

Breakfast - two eggs cooked how you like.
Lunch - smoked salmon, rollmop herring, lots of mixed salad
Dinner - any meat with lots and lots of veg.
Supper - protein and three crackerbreads together with the milk allowance left.

This works for me but is very hard.

BlueKarou · 30/01/2018 14:55

I'd like to throw my lot in with you please. I need to lose about 20kg (this is to get down to a BMI of 30. I know BMI isn't always a great predictor of fitness and the like, but I'm short and round and not so muscly, so I think it's probably fairly accurate for me.)

I have PCOS, was on Metformin for an age, then came off it when I got pregnant, and now I'm done with bf I need to pop back to the GP to get back on the metformin.

Low carb is something I really need to look into, but lunches are what always trip me up, any advice on something I can pack for my work lunch?

The only way I've lost weight before was a strict low calorie diet, MVP and 1200cal. It was depressing, I was grouchy, I needed to do a lot to distract from feeling hungry. This time round I have a toddler to feed, and have half the energy I did back then!

BlueKarou · 30/01/2018 15:12

(MFP, not MVP)

ladybird69 · 30/01/2018 21:09

Thanks jaimes I’ll google them might help me get focused. I don’t think that I could face breakfast but the juice with peanut butter and banana sounds ok.

kaz86 · 31/01/2018 16:11

Hi guys im finding it difficult this week emotionally difficult 😂.
I have less spots though 🤷🏼‍♀️

Shnazzyshot · 01/02/2018 07:36

How are you feeling today kaz? Good news about the spots! Wish I could say the same haha

kaz86 · 01/02/2018 09:24

Thanks shnazzyshot, I'm full of cold today! So that's stopping my sweet tooth but I crave salt when my throat is sore lol.
How are you doing?
I don't normally loose spots so wondering if it's the liquorice. Although made no difference to facial hair.

mickeymacca · 01/02/2018 16:30

Shnazzyshot do you have regular periods? I struggled for years to fall pregnant and then started taking a high dose vitamin B complex from H and B - I was pregnant within 8 weeks of taking it. Weight loss is definately key aswell. Even if you lose 10% of your body weight it can kick start your fertility. All the best x

Shnazzyshot · 02/02/2018 15:46

Well they are semi regular. The longest I've gone without one was 3 months but normally they are between 5-9 weeks apart. I will look into that mickey. I'm sure I've read something about it before. Thank you!

JaimesGoldenHand · 14/02/2018 19:58

Two weeks- 5lbs off. Nuff said.

BlueKarou · 08/03/2018 17:34

Posting here in the hope people are still checking this thread.

I'm back on the metformin after about 2 1/2 years off whilst pregnant (stopped at 8 weeks) and then breastfeeding.

I was on 1 x 500mg per day for the first week and am now up to 2 x 500mg, aiming to be at 3 x 500mg next week. Already I'm struggling with the stomach side effects. Is there anything I can be doing to keep my stomach under control? Or is it just a case of powering through the next however many weeks until things have settled?

LetItGoToRuin · 09/03/2018 12:56

BlueKarou - are you taking them with meals? (one each with two meals) In the middle or end of meals rather than before?

Are you taking one with breakfast and one with the evening meal? Ie spaced out?

If you're still suffering at the end of week 2, perhaps do another week on just 2x 500mg before moving up to 3. Or alternate days with 2 and then 3.

Some people say that certain foods make the digestive problems worse, but I never really found a link. Maybe someone else can offer some do's and dont's.

If it's still really bad after several weeks of trying, you could go back to your GP and ask for the slow release version. It's a lot more expensive though, so they will only do it if really necessary.

BlueKarou · 10/03/2018 15:10

Thanks LetIt.

I was doing lunch and dinner, which may have been making things worse than they needed to be. Will do another week of 2, but breakfast and dinner. Am taking with or immediately after food, and with a full glass of water or squash as I read somewhere that could help.

Chooklass · 10/03/2018 18:35

Hi Ladies, are folk still active on this thread? Looking for some pcos diet pals! Just diagnosed last week x
