I need your help, I have been an eating machine since the beginning of December. I am getting fatter and fatter by the day and am so miserable.

Today I put my brave head on and got on the scales. I weigh 11 stone 4.5lbs. I am not very tall so I am barrelesque and wobbly.

Things really have to change, honestly none of my clothes fit and I only have three dresses that I can currently fit into. My jeans do not fit and are so tight I can barely do them up let alone breathe.

Please join me in sorting my fat act out.

Fluffy, don't lose heart! I always gain during my period, but then you get the big bonus of a big drop afterwards. Weighing in once a week can mean you can just hit a bad day, and it looks like you haven't lost when you have. I weigh myself every day and have a spreadsheet with a graph that smooths out the loss, I find it much more encouraging, but it's not for everyone. I think the happy scales app pp have mentioned does the same thing.
I've lost my Christmas pounds quite quickly, and it's slowing down. Need some motivation, and also to run, but it's bloody grim out there and I've got a cold. All I want to do is eat buttery toast!

mintyneb · 16/01/2018 08:11

I was watching a tv programme last night about diets (Sorry can't remember the title) and they did an experiment to show that your weight can fluctuate massively even during one day. All to do with fluid content and how your body processes it.

But they also showed that whilst the person's weight changed their %age body fat didn't. So the message to come out was - I think - a change in weight from one day to the next is largely down to the processing of fluid, the change from one week to the next is down to changes in fat.

I'm drawing strength from that as i too went up 2lb from Sun to yesterday (but I'm back down again this morning!)

naughtycurly · 16/01/2018 08:17

Minty, i watched it too. It was called How to lose weight well on channel 4. It was really interesting. I was wondering if any of you guys had seen it.

Yep that's the one! The thing I took away from it is that whilst extreme diets do work, long term you have to pick something that will just become part of hour lifestyle.

The lady who lost 3st did brilliantly but I can't help but wonder if she went straight back on the chocolate afterwards as she was missing it so much?

naughtycurly · 16/01/2018 08:52

Minty yes the three stone weight loss lady did brilliantly but I agree that as soon as she starts eating everyday foods the weight would pile back on, there is no way that you could sustain a diet that restricting.

I think there is a place for those extreme diets, but probably best suited to people with just a few pounds to lose that aren't food pigs to start with.

Inspiring nevertheless Smile

Agree with the weight loss fluctuation! I never really lose every week as such. I always tend to lose every 2 weeks but end up losing a bigger amount (2-3lb). I lost 1lb this week mind, which is a bit unusual as I haven't been on plan 100% all week but I'm not complaining lol! I am going to have to watch that programme you all speaking about on channel4! Sounds really interesting. Xxx

TalkinPeace · 16/01/2018 09:02

Instead of 1200 calories
try to eat a number that has meaning for you

Use the TDEE calculator and work out how many calories your body will need for its sedentary TDEE at your ideal happy weight in one year's time

It will be different for everybody
but if you get into the habit of eating that amount, when you get to happy weight
you'll stay there Smile

naughtycurly · 16/01/2018 09:05

Working well done on your 1lb loss.

How to lose weight well is a series, haven't watched it until last night. I'm going to download the first episode which was on last week.

There's a series on Amazon Prime called something like "Why are we fat?". Watched the first episode last night and once again it comes down to sugar rather than fat intake. As a family we already have full fat everything but I need to look at our white rice/white bread/processed foods to cut back on sugar a bit more.

(This is ignoring DH's chocolate habit - mine has only been curtailed because I'm EBF and DS2 is intolerant/allergic to dairy and soya!)

IsabelleSE19 · 16/01/2018 11:22

I really could take or leave chocolate - crisps, cheese and butter are another matter altogether though…

Managed the fast day yesterday albeit with a cheaty miso soup at lunchtime, and just been for a 5k run (well, 30 mins anyway, I think at the pace I run it may well not be 5k I'm covering!). Have had banana and peanut butter on granary toast since and am now sitting here trying not to think about all the crisps in the cupboard…

LittleFryingPan · 16/01/2018 14:04

There are biscuits going round the office. I SAID NO!! It's killing me watching everyone eat them

Will power going strong. Tempted to start something like yoga a couple of times a week at home. Anyone tried it before?

IsabelleSE19 · 16/01/2018 14:36

If it's possible to binge on Ryvita then I just did that for lunch.

Mywifenow · 16/01/2018 14:38

Hello..do you have room for a little one?
I'm 5ft and was 11st 1 on last weigh in.

I'm another who starts fads enthusiastically so looking for a new way of life to take me into my 40s.

Talkin peace _Can i ask you please? I just calculated my tdee with my goal weight of 9st and it gave 1414. What is this figure? the calories I should have to lose weight? Seems a lot. I've been trying to stick to 1200 and not really losing.

I'm trying to gear myself up to exercise but really hate it. I'm doing 10k steps most days. Does anyone believe the calories burned by steps? Always seems generous!

Looking forward to your succeses:)

ObiJuanKenobi · 16/01/2018 16:15

After my pizza slip up last night I decided to hit the diet hard this morning.
Today has been a good day! I've discover these lovely little pots from Sainsbury's and they're so good!! I had one at 2pm and that's all I've had so far today and I'm feeling full and satisfied.

Oh Fuck, I am 2.5 stone over weight.

Ask yourself - did all of your colleagues wash their hands before handling the biscuits
or are there bits of snot and worse on there now Wink

That is the number of calories you will need to eat (measured accurately with no adding back for exercise EVER) to stay at that weight.
The number drops every year sadly

Weight loss is 90% food reduction, 10% exercise increase

exercise is good for you and makes you healthier but will not burn off a pack of donuts Grin

pickledparsnip · 16/01/2018 19:38

I started couch to 5k today!!! Fucking hell it killed me! Probably didn't help that I was yapping to my friend as I was going. My lungs felt heavy, like they suddenly remembered every cigarette I'd ever smoked (ex smoker now). Is that what being unfit and running feels like? Was horrible!
Felt great afterwards though!

pickledparsnip · 16/01/2018 19:39

Have eaten about 1,500 calories the past two days. Need to get it down to 1,200. I have really been kidding myself about the amount I nibble on.

LittleFryingPan · 16/01/2018 19:48

TalkinPeace they definitely didn't wash their hands EnvyEnvy

How's the weather where you guys all are? Was planning on taking the dog out for a run but jeez the snow! Don't trust myself to not slip on ice and break something

TalkinPeace · 16/01/2018 19:51

Littlefring
Now you have an image that will stop you snacking at work for ever Grin

CoperCabana · 16/01/2018 19:52

I am having the most chaotic time at work but will try and catch up with everyone news over the next few days. On my part, due to work chaos and sick kids I have had takeaway but on the plus side, my scales have run out of battery. Must get back on track. Must get back on track.

ObiJuanKenobi · 16/01/2018 19:56

FryingPan no snow but wet and windy down here in 'sunny Bournemouth' so I've had a very inactive day. Need to up the steps from 2,000 and start hitting the 10,000 mark!
Jealous of the snow though, we haven't had any this winter.

fluffygreenmonsterhoody · 16/01/2018 19:58

Today’s been a good day. Working from home due to snow, which normally means stuffing my face all day. However. I resisted!

Calculated my TDEE and apparently 1200 cals is about right. I like the idea of only weighing every two weeks but I’m too impatient for that!

We’re coming into the twilight snacking hour - stay strong everyone!

HeffalumpsnWoozles · 16/01/2018 20:06

Glad to see lots of you that have a TDEE of 1200, I felt like a freak as most people on RH Fitness were on a minimum of 1500.

Was a good day today until I scoffed 2 butter shortbreads, must try harder tomorrow! Omelette maker is a hit for work though, makes a change from the usual sandwich.
