Hi everyone...
I am regular visitor on mumsnet and all the stories r great. I was inpired so started last week with a healtier approach to food and i guess to life.I was always healty 68kg until i didn't have two preagnancies one after another and that realy killed my look-actualy it was me and my habit of eating. Have got a lot to loose(93kg atm), but started of last week. Feel bit better already.
Like the GI approach to food but just trying to basically eat less and excersise more.
b-special k(sustain-it's new-and great) witth 175ml ssm.
l-tuna sandwich(multigrain bread)+salad
Had a 7prunes as a midmorning snack, one cup of coffee and dinner will be soup(chunky veggi..)+slice of bread..
It looks alot when i compare with what some of you r eating----do you think i should decrease the intake of food????
And another question.what do you think of snack-a jack???
ps . started already step-class once a week and other days bit of brisk waling with other exc.

saggers · 29/04/2007 20:47

Wouldn't worry about your takeaway, snowwonder - at least you chose a healthier option. And you can't give up things like that completely, or you'd end up a recluse!
3andnomore - good to see you're still forging ahead with the whole thing! That last juice sounded delicious! I may end up investing in a juicer one of these days. I may read that Jason Vale's book next. I'm halfway through Chocolate Busters. Can't imagine EVER eating chocolate again. I'm horrified by the whole thing!
Hello smartestgiantintown, and welcome When I first read your post, I thought you meant you needed to lose 93kg, but I think you mean that's what you weigh now?! Personally, I don't think it sounds as if you're eating too much. If you're like me, if you starve yourself, you will end up hungry, and are more likely to end up bingeing. Also, your body will go into starvation mode and store fat more readily. I think just cut out the crap, and exercise more. I'm not a big fan of Snack-a-jacks myself - I'm trying to have 'real' food as snacks, to break my habit of reaching for chocolate or other such junk food. But if you like them and they help you, then there are worse things to snack on.
How's it going NuttyMuffins, Frascati, AFA?
I got caught out yesterday in the park. Stayed there longer than I'd planned to, and was hungry, but had nothing healthy on me to eat. I'd given my dds the only two bananas. I had to buy a packet of crisps (the closest thing to a healthy snack in the cafe!) but what I really wanted was an apple. I was really pleased though, that I didn't use it as an excuse to buy chocolate. (I think the McKenna/Vale combination has well and truly cured my cravings for the brown stuff! I hope it lasts!!) I get weighed tomorrow (It's Day 15). I hope it's good news when I step on the scales! Keep your fingers crossed for me...
xx

snowwonder · 30/04/2007 07:33

fingers crossed for you {smile}

welcome smartestgiantintown,

here is to a agood week for everyone, and it is the 1st of may tomorrow!!!

DANCESwithaFewExtraPounds · 30/04/2007 07:47

Hi all, sorry I've been MIA. Doing ok here too. I'm going to weigh myself on a Thursday so I'll find out then if I'm losing or not! I'm trying to restrict the junk to a minimum and all my meals are healthy and low fat, I'm also keeping up the exercise which I think is going to make a difference so we shall see...

Smartestgiant - you don't sound like you're eating too much, just right in fact! 3andnomore is still following the jason vale plan so she that is why she's not have alot (that's right isn't it?!)

Good luck this week everyone!

DANCESwithaFewExtraPounds · 30/04/2007 07:48

Dammit! I knew I'd out myself sooner or later I'm AFA! Not that you probably recognise this name anyway! Right, shall stick to this now, can't be farted with all the name changing anyway!

saggers · 30/04/2007 09:35

Ooohh, Dances... you minx! Glad it's sgoing well.
I weighed myself this morning. Have lost 6lbs. Not bad, but I was hoping for more, considering all the exercise I've been doing! Knowing that Dances lost 9 1/2 lbs and 3andnomore lost 7lbs in a week doesn't help! (The bastards!) Still, better off than on I suppose! x

saggers · 30/04/2007 09:36

Sorry, I know there's no s in going.

snowwonder · 30/04/2007 09:39

saggers that loss is fantsatic, what a motivation, good for you...

3andnomore · 30/04/2007 13:06

Hi All,
well, must say, I am a bit pissed off today! I only lost 1 Ib this week, sigh...measurementwise though, I lost a centimeter each on Hips, Waist, and both thighs...so, must assume that I am building muscle, which weighs more then fat...and I suppose that would make sense, because well, I have exercised 2x a day, and over the weekend did Davinas Power of 3 workout andalso did Nell McAndrews workout, aswell, as Tae bo and freestyling on my rebounder.
Hohum...just a bit disappointed, I suppose....! It's not so much that I feel deprived, and I didn't feel I missed anything not having wine, etc...just wished for the scales to show a bigger loss,
Halfway through the JV Slim4life book and it's brill.
Oh, was in Morrisons earlier and they had DVD's on offer, 2 for £5 and there was some exercise ones there, too...so bought....wait for it............................
.................................................................................................................
.................................................................................................................
Anthony's (BB) 70's Disco Workout
rofl, and also bought Kirsty Gallacher Body Sculpt (which looks reasonable good)....the other ones they had was some womans Twin workout (post natal sort of , by the looks of it and Carol Vordermans, Detox thing, but there was only 2 x 20 minute workout on there...so, no good to me)....I just thought a girl can't have to many of those DVD's....for the odd change, and all that, lol!
Anyone watched that programme last night with thsaat fat bloke from america bringing a message across to the UK...i.e. that we should eat better if we don't want to end up looking like that....!

sgit, welcome on this part of the board I don't think it sounds to much at all what you are eating, as you can eat more when you are heavier....i.e. if you do SW or WW then you have more sins/points which decrease as you loose weight. I really must say, I think for my welbeing the exercise is the part that makes the most difference....it's amazing how quickly your fitness levels go up if you do something twice daily.
Saggars, glad you liked the JV book, honest the Slim4 life one is brill...same approach as the chocolate buster one really....! And well done for not going for teh chocolate Must say, whenever I look at chocolate now, I start imagining Cockroaches....lol!
And well done on loosing 6Ibs that is brill...see..bet I cheered you up then with my news that I only lost 1 Ibs
Snowwonder, how you getting on?
Lol DwaFEP...Afa was a bit shorter, lol....like it though, your new name Hope the scales are kinder for you then for me.

OP posts:
DANCESwithaFewExtraPounds · 30/04/2007 15:40

3andno Oh I understand why you'd be disappointed! I'm sort of stuck at the same weight this week (did a naughty mid week check this morning) I think your body needs a week or so to re-acclimatise to eating. Bugger.
Saggers - that's blardy fantastic, well done!
Keep going girls, feel a bit of aerobics coming on tonight after the no loss on the scales this morning...ah well, by the time I go on holiday I will be a toned goddess...ahem....

smartestgiantintown · 01/05/2007 06:51

Goodmorning guys...
Was very busy but finaly this is the time
when i can have 5min for myself ...
Doing v.well -last night was bit down -my older daughter is very sick so maybe i was only looking for bit of comfort-but definitly not an option-extra food or snack at 11pm.
Didnt sleep at all...o another good news i lost 2kg-in 7days...Thank you all for inspiration...
b-having a special k with ssm
l-it will be chicken sandwich+salad and pear
d-i am working late today so it will be something lite and i will have some healthy snacks....good day to everyone...

DANCESwithaFewExtraPounds · 01/05/2007 16:48

Hi everyone

Not doing too badly today. Good breakfast, lunch was jkt potato with tiny bit of cheese, salad and two slices of ham BUT friend who came round brought flapjacks with her so I was 'forced' to have one. Nevermind, I'll have a lean tea and if I feel motivated might do my aerobics video again!
Keep the faith girls

3andnomore · 01/05/2007 18:21

HI All,
had a good day...went back to my WW meeting, lol, because the scales are better, and I thought that way I still have that part of the incentive going....!
Almost finished the Slim4Life Book and it really is the Book for anyone with a food addiction of any kind, imho...because it so makes you realise that eating healthy is not about will power, but that when you look at the so called "food" it really isn't so appealing and you sort of stop craving it. Must say, now that my system is so nicely flushed out of all the horrid crap food things, I don't crave anything...I truely don't actually want it, now that is brilliant news
Done a Tae Bo advance get ripped workout, which is an hour, an my oh my, I was sweating, but I really enjoyed it and was very proud of myself for doing it
Did one of the DVD's I bought yesterday, last night, and well, that Kirsty Gallacher one is kinda rubbish rreally, as they constantly take breaks and talk, rather then encouraging you to move, and it is sooo boring...glad I only spend £2.50 on it, lol!
I suppose it's one of those I will do, when I don't feel up to do something more high energy like Nell, or even Davina,or Tae bo, lol!

Had 2 Juices again, today, and am gonna have fresh haddock cooked in the oven and put loads of veggies in with it and some Spya Sauce and Tabasco sauce, etc...should taste nice

Dances, you still doing exercise twice a day?

Smart, well done on the weightloss!

How is everyone else doing?

OP posts:
DANCESwithaFewExtraPounds · 01/05/2007 18:29

Ummm...no,not doing exercise twice a day still! I am doing it 3 times a week which is still 3 times more than I was doing pre-detox!

saggers · 01/05/2007 22:10

Giant- good news about your loss. Well done. Hope your dd is feeling better soon.
Dances - I don't think I could have turned down a homemade flapjack. I think you did well to stop at one!
3andnomore - you put me to shame with all your exercise! I went for a run last night and have just been to a yoga class. Am trying to do yoga at home on the days I don't run. I used to be quite good at it (when I was 3 stone lighter) but now my extra weight gets in the way! Still, it should be good to see if I improve as I lose weight and visa versa.
xx

3andnomore · 02/05/2007 10:28

Norty Dances, remember what JV says...there is 24 hours in just a day, and 168 I think) hours in a week...so, 3 hours isn't that much in the grand scheme of things, but you are rihgt if you didn't do anything before then 3 times a week is of course a big improvement...lol...must say, I really do feel the difference with exercising every day twice...I am upping it now to an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon/evening...where it's possible...means I have to get up earlier (got up today at 5.15 instead of 5.45, but will make that 5am tomorrow, I think.)
Did a Tae Bo advance workout yesterday, for the first time, and I remember from a past experience, years ago, that back then I couldn't do an advance one, gave up halfway, and so was rather impressed with myself to get through the whole workout...if rather sweaty of course, lol! But it truely felt good. Did the Power of 3 (Davina) this morning. Really hoping that by the time my dh comes home for his R&R in about 3 weeks time, he will notice the differenceAnd by the time he comes back properly, in August, I am hoping to teak his Breath away, lol (like that is gonna happen, lol)...!
Was so funny, last night...get this....I craved apples....I am seriously getting weird, me thinks...!

Saggars, I am sure that the more you do it, the easier it will ebcome, and the more fun it becomes and the more likely you are to up the exercise.
And it doesn't have to be over exerting yourself, like a run can, but taking a long walk everyday, and not a slow one, lol, could help and would count as exercise.
Or even running about with teh Kids,in teh Park or things like that....it's all exercise, even if we don't always think of it as exercise, indeed, it's possibly the best kind of exercise, lol!
How is everyone else doing?
I can't believe I am already on Day 10 of the Turbo charge programme, this means, I am now 17 days Junk free...lol...which is probably why I have now overcome my cravings for unhealthy crap food, lol!

OP posts:
3andnomore · 03/05/2007 19:39

Where are you all? Talking to myself, sigh, lol!
Anyway, all in all a good day, but had my first bit of Junk today, obviously not part of the Turbo charge Plan, lol...but I am not going to feel bad about it!
Had a bit of cake, as we went to my FIL to his Birthday, and well, I 'm sorry, not gonna be rude and say no to a bit of cake, lol!
Also had a cup of Tea with milk (haven't had that neither since I started, lol...).
BUt I am glad to say, that even though I still liked the cake, I felt it was rather sweet, for my liking...so, I suppose my tastebutts aren't used to the taste anymore. But I would lie if I said I didn't still enjoy it! But a small piece was all I wanted and needed, and I didn't get the urge to have more, or anything.
Other than that I had a Juice in the morning, had some of yesterdays soup for Lunch and for Dinner I made myself that marinated Rainbowtrout again, with mushrooms,Peppers, Tomatoes, Spring Onions , and Garlic, with Coriander...similar to what I had the other night, and it's delicious!
Exercise wise did Beverly Callard this morning and Davina's Power of 3 in the afternoon!
Did a different Tae Bo advance yesterday, but wasn't that sure about that one. Oh, well, can't be all brilliant.
Anyway, what is everyone else up too?

OP posts:
saggers · 03/05/2007 21:04

Hello. 3andnomore - Glad the cake didn't send you off the rails. I had some chips again tonight. Just a few, and they did taste good, with a tuna steak. I wouldn't ever cook them, but I was out, and 'forgot' to ask for the meal without chips.
I've stopped drinking tea and coffee too. I used to have decaff anyway, but think it's better to do without completely. At home I have a nettle tea in the evening (really lovely- worth trying if you haven't already!) and just hot water if I'm out, when I would normally have had a coffee.
Went for my run last night. 2 1/4 miles. Knocked a couple of minutes off my time. Then did 20 mins yoga before bed. Will do the same tonight. Run again tomorrow.
Does the Jason Vale Slim4Life book have recipe ideas? Is there one that does? For food, I mean, not just juicing.

saggers · 03/05/2007 21:21

Wonder if LondonMamma is back from her holiday? It'd be good if she'd drop in and give us some advice.

3andnomore · 04/05/2007 07:37

HI Saggars,
there aren't any recipes in the Slim4Life Book, just a guidesection of food combining at the end...by what I can fathom. However, there are a fair few recipes in the Turbo Charge Book, for some uices/Smoothies, and a fair few Lunch and Dinner ones, and some Soups and Salads, too...!

OP posts:
3andnomore · 05/05/2007 22:33

Where is everybody?
Finished the Slim4Life Book now and after getting a bit worried that it would end to be just another diet book, it isn't....I really think that the Slim4LIfe approach will enable me to have a healthy relationship to food.
Anyway, had a good day today, well, with the TUrbo charge part of it anyway, done Nell and Tae Bo today for exercise and had a smoothie, the yummy Berry/almond one this morning, had some apples and a Banana for Lunch, as I was to lazy to start Juicing and had my Breakie so late, etc...and for Dinner I marinated some Chickenbreast and made some Kebabs wiht it, Just pineapple and chickenbreast, and had some salad with it!
The not so good part of the day were my 2 younger sons....sigh...they are winding me up sooo much, today they just were naughty from beginning to end...or that is how it felt to me, sigh!
So, how is everyone else holding up then?

OP posts:
saggers · 06/05/2007 09:08

Hello I'm here! Glad you're still going strong.
I'm still reading Chocolate Busters - I can't seem to find time to finish it, now that I've started doing yoga every night before bed. I will definitely read Slim4Life next - it sounds great. I went for an impromptu run last night. Just really felt like it. And I can already see an improvement in my yoga moves. My clothes are definitely looser, and I'm feeling slimmer, but I made the mistake this morning of trying on an old pair of jeans. I couldn't even quite get them up to the top of my legs, and they are miles away from fastening! So, still a long way to go!
How's everyone else doing?

3andnomore · 06/05/2007 12:08

Saggars...I bought a Yoga DVD (Aerobics Oz Style one) and can't say I am to keen on it...Yoga is to boring for me...it didn't relax me, it made me restless, as I didn't feel that I had exercised.
Made me laugh though, because she would always say if you cna't do this or that yet, give our body time, blablabla...and I know, I suppose I dont apreciate just how supple and agile I am actually (used to do Gymnastics, etc..)....but I thought I needed to get a Beginners one, as I had never done Yoga before....think I shall sell that one on again, or give it away over freecycle, as well, I really feel more relaxed after a really good workout, lol!
Anyway, really msut go...want to buy teh Kids some new shoes, and things...
Speak later.

OP posts:
3andnomore · 06/05/2007 12:11

Oh, and sorry to ehar that your Jeans don't quite fit yet...but you will get there
When I did my belt up earlier I realised that I could actually tighten them anohter hole, but I don't think it would be comfortable all day like that!

OP posts:
saggers · 06/05/2007 16:51

I can understand that some people would think yoga was boring. I love it though. I used to do it before DD1 and while I was pregnant. I was really slim and toned. I used to swim 100 lengths 4x a week, and run 2 or3x a week, and do yoga to relax and tone me up. I don't have time to swim now, but am running for my aerobic exercise, and yoga will hopefully firm my muscles up and put me back in touch with my body!
Like you, I used to do gymnastics, and do think that's helped me in the past - I know in time I will be flexible and supple again, it's just that I need to shift some of this excess weight that's getting in the way!
