Anyone interested in a super-extra-healthy October?

wantawaistagain · 28/09/2017 12:13

In Sept I started eating healthily and trying to get in some exercise and do 10000 steps most days. I did manage to drop 3lbs but I definitely wouldn't say I was the most organized or motivated about it-especially the exercise bit.
I'm on one of the Christmas weight loss threads but I thought I'd start this one too and see if anyone is interested in giving it 100% for October.

It happens, Silverking! As others have said, the key is to get back to being healthy the next day and don't feel guilty or bad - just move on. One bad day won't have much impact in the long term, just make sure it doesn't become several bad days!

One thing I've found helpful is mindfully integrating things like a little bit of chocolate or the odd small bag of crisps into my calorie allowance, so I don't feel deprived and then "binge" on the stuff when I've had a bad day. This has largely worked, although I'm not going to lie and say I still don't get my moments!

BusterTheBulldog · 08/10/2017 18:45

Don't worry silverking it's okay to fall off the healthy wagon, as long as you get back on!

I do that too yazoop we have 'second tier' biscuits in (malted milk, ginger biscuits, nice etc) that I allow myself to have as a snack. Sometimes I just need a biscuit! If I don't have anything in, I'll end up at the shops inhaling a sharing (not that they bloody have much in these days!) pack of minstrels in the car park.😬

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/10/2017 19:10

I've had a good weekend. Not been 'super healthy' but have been mindful and healthier and feel positive as a result which is half the battle I guess. I've been for a run, I've stayed very low carb, I've resisted cake today, and these all balance out the not so good behaviour (such as small detour from righteous path in the way of mars bar yesterday!) and the few glasses of wine.,

Week ahead also looking good, meals planned, activity put in the diary and generally I'm feeling good. It's my weigh in tomorrow; I was 12.5 at the start of September, was 12.3 at the start of October (which was a bit unfair as I'd been pretty good!), and my mid week weigh in this week suggested 11.9 ish, although I think that might rise slightly due to the weekend's excesses.

My aim this week is to drink more water, and stop the afternoon grazing. Even though it's all low carb stuff, the calories quickly mount up, so hopefully by stopping that I could have a reasonable loss again next week.

Greatdomestic · 08/10/2017 22:35

I did my weigh in this morning and have lost 2lbs. Not great, but better than 2 on.

I have managed almost an hour out with the dog both today and yesterday and have avoided grazing. Spent a few hours in the garden to keep thoughts of grazing at bay, so am absolutely knackered now.

I'm feeling positive too the new and hope that you see a good number on the scales tomorrow,

wantawaistagain · 08/10/2017 23:57

I bought a new digital scales. It thinks I'm 139lbs. Old scales thinks I'm 144 to 146lbs. So I'm either down 2 lbs down or 3 to 5 lbs up in the last week. I think the too-tight trouser test might be the way to go.

Lost 1lb this week. Takes me to 25lbs lost in total.

Happy with steady progress at this stage, its getting harder to get anything over a 1lb loss per week but I'm continuing in the right direction. Plus I had a couple of cocktails and a dirty pub burger this weekend Grin (although I was pretty good for the rest of the week).

@Buster yum, Minstrels.... the devil in a packet!

BusterTheBulldog · 11/10/2017 14:18

Well done yazoop! Hoping to be 1lb down on fri also

fishonabicycle · 11/10/2017 17:21

Sounds like you are all doing well 😁 I want to join in - I lost about a stone last year which I have maintained. However, I am starting to eat more sweet stuff again and want to stop it between now and Xmas (with a small break at half term when we go walking in the peak District). I've even been eating biscuits and i don't really like them!

wantawaistagain · 13/10/2017 11:22

I'm a lb down since last weekend according to my new scales. I've done 10,00 step or exercise DVD every day this week and my too-tight trouser are a smidgin looser. I haven't stuck to the not eating after 6 this week even though I've been eating sensibly so my aim for the next week is to keep up the exercise and no food after 6.

10,000 steps-1,000 wouldn't be very impressive.

I'm doing ok..... Sometimes I'm very very good. But a few times I've ended up with my head in the biscuit tin, and ten minutes scoffing biscuits can undo literally hours of being good so....I'm not exactly losing loads of weight.

Just done a run and feel better for it, although l've been feeling rough all week. I must force myself more often. Out at a PTA function tonight so provided I don't go home via the off licence and/or chippy I'll be fine. It's actually less time to potentially be eating.

Greatdomestic · 13/10/2017 19:25

I hope everyone has had a good week.

I have once again avoided fat Friday and the vending machine at work today, so feeling a bit virtuous this evening.

Hopefully this will be reflected on the scales on Sunday.

I know the new, it is really hard to avoid the biscuit tin, but worth it. Instead of my usual choc fest for the evening, it is 2 satsumas for me.

BusterTheBulldog · 13/10/2017 19:31

I am the same this week, bit annoyed as exercised every day and apart from a couple of tier two biscuit incidents have eaten well. At least I haven't put on though.

Well done everyone!

Greatdomestic · 15/10/2017 15:55

I hear you buster. A disappointing 3/4 of a pound off this week when I weighed in this morning.

I guess I need to up the ante. This is normally the time in any healthy eating/dieting that I tend to think F* it.

when I reflect, I did scoff some cheese when making lasangna during the week, and had a bit - a large bit- of sticky toffee pudding last night as well as a handful of salted peanuts.

I haven't been calorie counting per se, I just thought by cutting down on my non stop grazing that this would have an immediate and profound effect on my weight, lol.

I hope that you are all having a good weekend.

BusterTheBulldog · 19/10/2017 09:09

I am similar great cutting my grazing has definitely made a difference but I also realised I need to really cut my carbs. I've been making pasta salads (brown pasta), only a small amount of pasta but it all counts! I've cut that this week and It has made a difference as I've lost 2lbs this week Smile

Hope everyone is doing well!

Yazoop · 19/10/2017 09:45

Hi everyone! Sounds like you are all going in the right direction - @buster and @ greatdomestic, don't worry too much if you've had a slow week. Anything from water retention after a recent salty meal to where you are in your monthly cycle can add a pound or two on the day - a weekly weigh in is not a trend, you can only judge a plateau over a number of weeks really (I weigh-in weekly but try to look at how much I lose in monthly blocks, as I tend to retain water at different points in my cycle, it's quite amazing to see the patterns once you have been tracking for a while).

If you have been largely sticking to your eating plans, you will continue to lose weight!

Unfortunately, my week hasn't been too great. My dad had a heart attack (he's going to be ok, thankfully) and I've not been home much to cook. I've stayed the same this week, which I'm actually quite pleased with. Back to normal-ish now, so onwards and upwards!

wantawaistagain · 19/10/2017 13:28

I am still being ultra-healthy in spirit and eating well but my exercise went to hell this week. I'm in Ireland so the hurricane followed by no electricity or water meant it was a strange week. Now we have a yellow rain warning so I don't think I'll be doing my 10,000 steps today.

Sorry to hear about you dad, Yazoop. Hopefully he'll get home soon.

Well done buster!

Sorry to hear about your dad Yazoop.

BusterTheBulldog · 20/10/2017 10:09

Thanks great- have 3 meals out this weekend though so need to be careful! Noticing my clothes fitting better which is a good spur on too.

Sorry to hear about your dad yazoopFlowers hope he recovers soon.

Sounds like you had quite the week wantawaistagain! Well done on the eating well-that is my biggest struggle.

Lost a filing this week which can't be replaced until the 24th Nov!! That will limit me eating anything crunchy I guess Confused

Greatdomestic · 23/10/2017 19:41

Hi all, only a one pound loss this week, but better than one on.

I'm going to try to keep the faith.

How's everyone doing?

BusterTheBulldog · 23/10/2017 21:50

Well done greatdomestic - it all counts!

I have had a very carb heavy weekend, I did manage to exercise every day but not enough to counteract-won’t get on the scales until wed probably...

Yazoop · 24/10/2017 18:45

Thanks for all your well wishes, dad is doing well, thankfully Smile

I lost 3/4 pound this week! Hmm it is time of the month, so not too disappointed really. It's better than nowt!

BusterTheBulldog · 26/10/2017 09:38

Glad your Dad is doing well yazoop.

It’s still a loss! I’m the same this week Angry I’ve just eaten 3 count Colin caterpillar cakes in frustration. They were lovely though.

On a plus side I could get into my skinny jeans that I couldn’t get over my thighs a month ago. Not pretty mind, but still a positive!

This thread has been great, definitely carrying on into November.

wantawaistagain · 26/10/2017 11:55

A denim skirt that was just a bit too tight is fitting me again and I definitely can see a difference around my middle. I haven't really done much exercise except trying to get in the 10,000 steps but I'm really watching what I eat. If I'm hungry at night I just have 2 Ryvita with a bit of tuna. No mid afternoon toast either and I'm making myself eat a non-bread breakfast.
I'm definitely going to try to keep it up until Christmas. I want a waist much more than jewellery or a new phone or anything like that.
