Anyone interested in a super-extra-healthy October?

wantawaistagain · 28/09/2017 12:13

In Sept I started eating healthily and trying to get in some exercise and do 10000 steps most days. I did manage to drop 3lbs but I definitely wouldn't say I was the most organized or motivated about it-especially the exercise bit.
I'm on one of the Christmas weight loss threads but I thought I'd start this one too and see if anyone is interested in giving it 100% for October.

Does anyone mind if I scream extremely loudly.

I have lost 5lbs since last Thursday.

Beyond happy!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/10/2017 09:04

Wasn't so healthy last night as I shared a bottle of wine with Dh after a tough day. Food is great though- I've had very few carbs, no pasta/rice/potatoes/grains/sugar and keeping calories under 1000 even with wine. I have hidden the scales as I think I am actually addicted to weighing myself every day, and in a bid to focus on how I feel not how much I weigh. I have been more inclined these last 3 days to think about the benefits of the food not whether I could 'get away' with a cheat. I feel like I've lost weight which is good.

FannyTheFlamingo · 05/10/2017 09:15

Well done Silverking!! I'm ill, so going to take the opportunity to drink lots of water and not eat much!!

Had to have a serious chat with DP about takeaways last night. He loves them and he still manages to have zero fat on him Angry Am I fooling myself by thinking I can still have takeaway and it not be terrible for me? E.g to have Indian and just have a meat dish and some spinach, as long as it isn't a dish with loads of cream or butter? I have cauli rice at home that I could put with it.

Yazoop · 05/10/2017 09:47

Well done @silverking Smile that's fab!

Yazoop · 05/10/2017 09:58

@fanny I still have the odd takeaway. I think the key is the word odd. Before I started losing weight, takeaways sneakily started to become a standard part of me and my DPs life and we had 1-2 takeaways per week due to work pressures and lazy-itis.

We now have one every other week and I keep an eye on portions, not over ordering etc. Life's too short not to have a little of what you want, and also unrealistic to say you'll never eat takeaway again, but it can't be too often or too much or it will stop your progress.

I try to keep it within my calories for the day, so I'll plan ahead for the takeaway and cut back during the day so I can eat what I want later on. Before we'd just order takeaway on a whim so I had to change that mindset and plan meals ahead, which is a good thing. The thing is you are only estimating the calories in a takeaway, so of course you want to be eating home cooked food 90%-95% of the time - so your other half will have to get used to less takeaways or get his own!

Another thing you can experiment with less calorific "takeaway" style food that is good for a Friday Netflix session without all the cals. You can make versions of loads of Indian curries cheaply and fairly quickly. I'm trying oven baked "fried" chicken tomorrow, hope that goes well as my secret shame is a hankering for KFC GrinBlush

Yazoop · 05/10/2017 10:08

Oh and re: Indian takeaways, avoid pilau rice and naan (unless you really want them). These extras add up to lots of cals (sometimes as much as the main!).

Pilau is double the calories of plain rice (although your cauli rice sounds like much better option than either) - I was shocked by this, silly old me didn't know it was cooked with oil Shock

BusterTheBulldog · 05/10/2017 23:10

silverking I had the exact same 'mirror moment' as you-really caught me off guard! Well done on loss this week!

I have managed 7lbs! Taking me to 11stone. This was mainly caused by a violent bout of food poisoning which has knocked me off my feet for nearly 3 days - every cloud though Wink

BusterTheBulldog · 05/10/2017 23:11

Omg! Great info yazoop love a bit of pilau too Sad

silverking · 06/10/2017 06:33

Buster. Well done, 7lb is fantastic. Three days of food poisoning sounds grim. What caused it? I hope that you are now feeling better.

BusterTheBulldog · 06/10/2017 08:56

It really has been grim. I think pre packed salad leaves from Morrisons, I didn't wash them and it's the only thing I have eaten that I hadn't had some of before in the week or shared with anyone else. That's what I get for trying to be healthy!

Polkadotties · 06/10/2017 10:56

Haven't weighed this week, it's TOTM and I retain so much water. Dinner last night was ribeye steak with loads of garlic butter, sautéed leeks and halloumi

fannyanddick · 06/10/2017 11:28

Can I join in? I currently weigh 176 lb at 164cm. My longer term goal is 154 so 11 stone. But my short term goal is 1 stone 14 pounds. I think it could be possible by the end of the year if I really focus on eating well i.e. Less! Dec 15 I was 209 lb. my heaviest ever except when pregnant so I have lost 2 stone but nothing in the last month.

fannyanddick · 06/10/2017 11:28

I mean 1 stone/14lb!

Gingernaut · 06/10/2017 11:33

I won a week's free gym membership as a raffle prize.

I've just called them up to arrange a start date.....😱

wantawaistagain · 06/10/2017 13:46

Well done everyone who lost weight this week.

I did 10,000 step yesterday and a whole morning of gardening already today so getting along OK with exercise.

I'm not sure about weight-my scales is saying 141 to 145lb depending on how I stand on it. I think it's really on it's last legs. I measured my waist around my belly button and that came out at 33''. Waist measuring is complicated by the fact that I don't really go in anywhere . My size 12 pants that I'm aiming to get into are still too tight but I think they are a little less tight than they were. I plan do do a lot of walking this weekend and at least a few sit-ups and planks.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/10/2017 14:24

I have lost 4lb since Monday so I'm pretty pleased with that, although it's now the weekend and things never continue in the way I start the week. Hoping not to drink tonight as that always gets me off in the wrong foot. We have rib eye steak tonight with salad.

Greatdomestic · 06/10/2017 21:39

hi all.

Well done buster & silver, it's good to see results from your efforts.

I was tempted by some chilli chocolate this evening and have checked this thread to keep me motivated and remind me why I'm avoiding the treats.

I avoided the carb fest which is fat Friday at work today, which is no mean feat. I haven't quite managed an hour, only 40 mins each day but hope to do more over the weekend.

I'm feeling a bit less bloated but don't want to weigh myself again until Sunday.

I will be gutted if there is no loss but I guess a stone did not go on in one week, so therefore it will take time to come off.

Stay strong everyone!!

Greatdomestic · 06/10/2017 21:40

that should be an hour walking the dog.

BusterTheBulldog · 06/10/2017 23:18

Well done avoiding the chocolate greatdomestic I hate fat Fridays, friday is generally my treat day-I don't want to waste it at work!

silverking · 07/10/2017 09:18

I was doing so well and then last night I ate my body wright in chocolate and crisps.

Not sure why it happened, I even drove six miles to the shop to buy it.

I feel so annoyed with myself. It has given me a headache and I feel a bit sick.

I'm a twat.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/10/2017 09:47

Silverking you're not a twat. We've all done it at some point. Dust yourself off and draw a line, today is a new day. The real damage is done if you then say 'sod it' and continue all weekend!

I've had a good week. Had a few glasses of wine last night, but I've stuck really well to my diet, and had no pasta, rice, potatoes, grains or sugar since Monday. I've lost 6.5lb so far, 8.5lb in total. Need to keep my mojo up for the weekend though. I am going to go for a run although I haven't managed all week so might feel a bit unfit, plus we will probably do some sort of outdoor activity with the dc. My biggest problem at the weekend is grazing though so I need to just be mindful about what I'm actually eating.

silverking · 07/10/2017 10:20

Thanks The, I'm defiantly back on track today. Smile

Polkadotties · 07/10/2017 10:43

silverking next time you are tempted just remember how rubbish you felt.
I had a dominos binge about a month ago, the next day I felt so awful, it's really put me off.

I always struggle at the weekends, my OH agrees to eat low carb with me during the week as long as he gets the weekends to eat what he wants. That's fine for him but due to my PCOS and insulin resistance it really slows me down, takes me until about Wednesday/Thursday to feel good again then it's the weekend.

Greatdomestic · 07/10/2017 12:41

Silver, that is exactly the kind of thing I do. And I don't even enjoy it most of the time. Well done for acknowledging it and how crap it made you feel.

My DH sat last night and guzzled several packs of crisps and some chocolate, whilst I sat with my small pot of soya yogurt.

Grazing is a problem for me at the weekend, so I really want to try and be mindful of what I am actually eating, how it makes me feel etc.

I bought a new dress last in a second hand shop, and it is a bit on the sausage skin tight side, but I think it will give me a bit of focus to keep going. It is only a work dress, but because I have expanded, I am wearing the same things on rotation.

Ginger, did you get booked in at the gym?

Gingernaut · 07/10/2017 15:54

I've called and I've set myself up for half term week.

I'm meeting Katie @ 10am Sunday....
