Tomorrow I quit sugar

OuchBollocks · 06/08/2017 17:29

I am OuchBollocks and I am a sugar addict. Not for me one square a day or a frozen curly wurly to take the edge off, no. I have it, I eat it, I want it more.

Last year I quit sugar for New Year, and stayed off minus one or two teeny slips until I got pregnant with DS, then being off alcohol and caffeine combined with the summer heat made the lure of a cold Fanta too hard to resist. Then I broke my leg and was bed bound and in pain and people brought chocolate to the hospital, and the meals all came with dessert, and then I had DS and more chocolate, then Easter and more chocolate, and although I've managed to drop a dress size so far with the 5:2 diet I need to jack in the white stuff. I am going to Ibiza in September '18 and I want to feel confident.

God help me,it's going to be hard. The rules are:
No sweet drinks, including artificial sweeteners
No chocolate, sweets, icecream, cake, sorbets, pastries, jam, marmalade etc etc
No crisps
Read labels of sauces carefully to check sugar levels.

I will update this thread for my own personal records. I am going to kiss sugar goodbye with the slice of cheesecake that is waiting for me after dinner. Goodbye sugar, it's been fun :(

Still keeping on

B: cup of tea ( overslept and late so no food)
L: 2 hard boiled eggs with big plate of mixed crudités and humous.
D: Indian takeaway- shared paneer tikka, tarka dhal and chicken jalfrezi with DH plus plain rice

Yesterday I went to a dinner and had some completely delicious flourless chocolate cake. Was amazing. Totally worth it.

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 07/10/2017 16:05

I am a sugar addict, I am 6 stone over what I was when I had my first child 8 years ago and it needs to stop. I eat vast quantities of chocolate, barely even taste it. That plus squash plus got chocolate plus cakes. Awful. Today is the first day and i’ll follow this thread with interest.

Cantseethewoods · 08/10/2017 00:55

Hi Totty. Welcome. It's pretty quiet now but I'm keeping the lights on in case we get a pre-Christmas influx, or if not, at least the New Year starters Grin. I am basically trying to cut down sugar. I am a stress induced sugar eater, but I'm more candy vs. chocolate. I just had a foot operation which has been quite a revelation because now that going to the shop to get Haribo isn't actually possible, I think about it a lot less. Maybe I should get the doc to just chop my feet off- ha ha.

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 08/10/2017 07:44

Ha! Hope you are recovering from the op!! Thanks also for replying! Perhaps i’ll Keep posting anyway even though it’s quiet - keep me on the straight and narrow. I too am a stress induced sugar eater. Stress, tiredness. If only knowing what it is made a difference to my habits. Still, I had an ok day yesterday - homemade soup, spag Bol, no chocolate etc which was actually quite a hallenge since we had the sleepover from hell here last night!!

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 08/10/2017 18:27

Not a bad day today... have been thinking I would ‘fast’ through breakfast it was starving this morning so had some Weetabix, then broccoli and leek soup with (probably too much) sourdough and then slow roast beef with veg and managed to forgo the Yorkshire pud, potatoes and parsnips (which is not actually my long term aim but just whilst I try and kick start weight loss). Anyway point being that I managed not to have any processed, sugary crap. Hurrah!

Cantseethewoods · 09/10/2017 01:55

I love green vegetable soups! Yesterday for me:

B: Protein shake and tea
S: Soy latte
L: Salmon tikka with salad and a load of crudities (peppers, carrot, cucumber, baby asparagus) with guacamole
D: Tuna sashimi, zoodles, rice and avocado.

Cantseethewoods · 09/10/2017 14:43

Today

B: protein shake
L: 2 hard boiled eggs, crudités, hummous, blackberries
D: roast chicken breast, mixed salad, glass of wine.

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 09/10/2017 17:04

B: weetabix and milk
L: leek and broccoli soup

D: leftover roast beef and whatever veg is lurking in the fridge!

Saw the doctor this morning as feel exhausted. Strongly suspect it is a result of terrible sugar addiction but we discussed weight and they have tested for diabetes etc. A real boot up the backside for me frankly.

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 10/10/2017 05:36

Well today will be a test - I usually work from home but today have to go into the office which is 5 hours away from me to a job I dislike. Tiredness and stress coupled with a boring car journey - my two triggers!! Wish me luck...

Battlescar · 10/10/2017 06:23

Good luck Totty! I'm a bugger for munching on sweets/snacks on long boring car journeys- I feel your pain! Stay strong 💪🏻

honeyroar · 10/10/2017 08:56

Hello everyone!

I do long drives to and from work - I now take a punnet of grapes with me or sliced carrot batons to nibble on the way..

Cantseethewoods · 10/10/2017 11:49

Me too. My most shameful moment was when my mum gave me a bag of jelly snakes for the DC on a car journey. They both fell asleep and by the time they woke up I'd eaten the lot!

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 10/10/2017 20:07

Well I made it. Last hour was hard and I need to do something like the carrot suggestion otherwise after my initial resolve goes I will be back to old habits!
Just having some leftover beef and veg for dinner then bed!

Cantseethewoods · 11/10/2017 05:45

Good job Totty. I'm sure my car munching got worse after I got stuck in a freak snowjam during that terrible weather in Jan 2003. I was stuck on the A31 for 7 hours not moving while they got a snowplough and I was STARVING (also had to pee between the car doors but that's a whole other issue). I think it scarred me and now I cant go in the car without 3000 calories for company Grin.

Yesterday -

B: Protein shake
L: cheese and pickle baguette, crudities and hummous, raspberries
D: mozzerella, tomato and avocado salad.

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 11/10/2017 21:06

B: berocca
L: leek and brocolli soup
D: gammon with fried egg and cauliflower cheese

Snack - I ate some left over bolognaise from the kids dinner. Actually in addition to car journeys and sugar, eating leftovers is also my downfall.

Still, no sugar (by a whisker, I had to steel myself against a bar of chocolate in co op earlier).

Cantseethewoods · 12/10/2017 07:00

Yeah, before I had kids couldn't understand why anyone ate kids' leftovers but when you're starving at 5.30, even the most picked over morsels are tempting

B: protein shake
L: 2 hard boiled eggs, crudités and humous, pineapple
D: baked salmon and salad, glass of wine

Cantseethewoods · 12/10/2017 14:05

I'll do today while I'm here

B: latte
L: random selection of buffet carbs ( conference)
D: chorizo, pepper and spinach frittata and salad, glass of wine.

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 12/10/2017 16:22

B: berocca
L: leek soup
S: 4 Sainsbury’s chipolatas and a Slice of cheese ☺️ Necessary otherwise I would have eaten play date cakes
D: haddock with pesto and veg

Time of the month and sugar cravings are creeping up on me. Ugh.

Cantseethewoods · 14/10/2017 02:02

The donut got me (but it was a mini one, so that's fine, right? Grin

B: Protein shake
L: tofu bipimbap (basically, tofu, various veg and rice)
S: Mini iced donut to celebrate LGBT day at work (it was really good- from a famous Taiwanese donut place)
D: Korean shrimp and veg rolls (like California rolls but the filling bit is bigger and the rice bit much thinner), glass wine (x2- hell it's the weekend)

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 14/10/2017 08:57

The donut sounds lush! Am impressed it was only one - one would send me spiralling and eating the rest 🙄

I fell spectacularly off the wagon last night, went out and drank gallons of red wine. Have awful hangover and am going to have to steel myself to get through the day without reaching for coke, cake, pizza etc. I’ll report back later.

On the plus side I had lost 5llbs when I checked yesterday.

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 14/10/2017 19:27

B: scrambled egg

L: leek soup

S: a lot of leftover cheese

D: chilli with avocado and cheese

Cantseethewoods · 15/10/2017 00:38

Hope you had a good night and well done for getting back on track. I probably would have had more than one doughnut if I could walk but as it was I was at the mercy of my colleagues. Yesterday:

B: protein shake. These are a massive diet hack. 25g protein for 150 cals ( My Protein Total Protein) providing you don't mind downing them with water. I know they're massively processed but they are also massively filling.

L: Korean rolls leftover from Friday plus kiwi, raspberries and pineapple

D: Thai green curry with chicken, peppers, French beans and baby corn. Glass wine.

DH scoffed a bar

Cantseethewoods · 15/10/2017 00:41

... of fruit and nut and I didn't have any or even really want it.

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 15/10/2017 18:08

B: Greek yoghurt

L: ham, cheese, avocado

D: roast pork

Cantseethewoods · 16/10/2017 01:32

B: Protein shake
L: 2 bananas
D: half a pepperoni pizza, 4 squares milk chocolate, glass of wine

Er, not the best really, but could be worse. We had a typhoon so trapped inside with whatever food was in the house. Basically an enforced duvet /TV day, which I hate at the best of times.
