Faith one of the best things about this diet is that it doesn't matter if you 'fail', you just mark it and move on. (I do go on about this quite a lot but it's important!) As I said before, the early days are about forming good habits. If you go wrong, don't panic. Try not to eat everything in sight just because of one small slip up, just get right back on track as soon as possible.
In practical terms, a glass of milk can help keep you going (I had one at 5pm today because I knew dinner wouldn't be until later) and yes, you are right to try and fill your plate with filling healthy food. You'll work out the balance over time, and your appetite will gradually decrease too.

Have a great weekend everyone! It is DHs birthday tomorrow and we are having family round for a meal. There will be Ss!Grin

FaithEverPresent · 05/01/2018 21:39

Thanks Bluebell! Yeah I just had the corned beef hash then waited for dinner - had a massive steak with chips and veg! I’m proud of myself for not eating everything in sight! I didn’t even sneak a grape Smile I’m so excited about S days this weekend! I have biscuits and chocolate puddings to have. Not going to go crazy just going to enjoy it.

Happy birthday to your DH Bluebell, enjoy the celebrations.

beela · 05/01/2018 22:26

Hi All, I'd like to join you all if thats ok?
I've been looking into No S for a while and I'm using my first day back at work post Christmas break to start. I'm feeling quite motivated as I did some meal prepping last night to help me with taking the thinking out of everything. Fairly boring as I'm having the same Salad for lunch and the same Curry for dinner for the next 4 days Blush but I'd just got off a long haul flight so I was pretty impressed with myself for getting organised enough to hit the ground running straight away even if prepping two meal was all I could manage!

Ruggles · 07/01/2018 06:47

Morning. Great to read how everyone is getting on.

I've had a week of S's as on holiday in London, but was much better than would usually be and the last two days would have fitted into a normal day. I had planned them as S-days, but looking at what I ate, it was all ok! I find that eating three proper meals a day helps enormously with my cravings and energy levels. I think with all this 5:2, IF and generally trying to eat tiny / v low fat portions, I had forgotten how to eat properly and that the three meal rule is giving me a good rhythmn. Also, looking forward to treats is a pleasure in itself. Might not be so easy next week with back to work / school runs etc.

I'm feeling so excited about all of these plans. I bought a new cookbook of one tray meals (The Roasting Tin) which I hope will make my evening cook simpler / faster. I will let you know what I think! Also Matthew Walker's book on why we sleep (and why we can't lose weight if we don't get enough :) :))

Is anyone else doing the daily habit log?.

Welcome NavyGold you sound very organised!

Enjoy the S Sunday!

beela · 07/01/2018 07:49

Morning everyone! Especially newbies Smile

I've just started a habit log this week ruggles, and managed four green days and one yellow (on account of one liquorice allsort!).

I was craving an S day by Friday, but once I'd had the last mince pie with the last of the brandy cream after lunch - mmmm - I was pretty moderate for the rest of the day.

Nearly back to my pre-christmas weight Grin

I managed to survive and enjoy my two S days over the weekend- enjoyed some lovely home baked treats and a nice lunch out yesterday. It gave me extra restraint on Friday night- where I turned down some ice cream in favour of a well earned reward on the weekend. How did everyone else get on?

Back to it today!

What is the habit tracker?

Ruggles · 08/01/2018 15:37

Well done Beela and Cinnamon.

Habit Tracker is part of the No S website and it's a simple way of tracking habits - not just the S ones.

I am doing well but have that dreaded feeling of another cold coming, this winter has been one cold after another and I had a really horrid version leading up to Christmas - days on end of mild temp and headache. When I have a cold I eat and eat and then eat and eat even more - I have put on 1stone since Oct Blush Angry Blush Angry

beela · 08/01/2018 18:52

Huh. A red day on my habit tracker today. I had some jelly earlier. Then picked at dc's tea. Now I've eaten a Christmas chocolate (just the one). Big fat fail. Once it all goes wrong I struggle to keep on track for the rest of the day.

Ruggles · 09/01/2018 06:32

Beela - I am the same - once I have one snack, I'm out the gates and off. Hmm. Don't loose heart, I think it takes a while to change your habits and we're bound to have some ups and downs in the early days.

FaithEverPresent · 09/01/2018 08:04

Don’t beat yourself up beela. The book says it’s inevitable. Sounds like it could have been a lot worse!

I had a good day yesterday. My first week fail made me realise I need to feed myself more and more filling foods. Yesterday and I had cereal and two kinds of fruit for breakfast, cooked ‘breakfast’ for lunch (not quite full English and grilled) and that took me through til dinner. I was definitely afraid of eating too much at meals before but also just of letting myself get hungry! SW is well-ingrained - ‘Eat when you’re hungry’ but I was eating at the first signs of hunger! I found my S days quite strange, I’ve either been strictly doing SW or rebelliously not doing SW so to have permission to eat whatever I liked was weird! I ended up having a packet of biscuits (I had 4 one day, 4 the next) and a two pack of sponge puddings for dessert, one each day and a couple of hot chocolates. I really enjoyed them but I think I was afraid to go mad! I’m sure that’ll get easier in time. I’m sure my belly has gone down already. I’m going to weigh myself tomorrow so we’ll see what the scales say.

beela · 09/01/2018 09:15

Thanks guys - thing is ruggles I'm nearly 12 months in! Just trying to reset after Christmas I think. But today is a new day and I've had a big bowl of greek yoghurt and apple for breakfast so that will keep me going til lunch.

Does anyone else get different sorts of hunger? I find I don't mind the empty / rumbling tummy feeling but there's definitely another type (maybe low blood sugar??) that I find much harder to ignore.

FaithEverPresent · 09/01/2018 11:12

Yes beela! Low blood sugar is awful. That’s why I had a fail day on Friday and have to have something mid-afternoon. I knew I’d get a bad headache if I didn’t. That’s why I’m trying to eat bigger portions and more protein to get me through. I was fine yesterday when I ate a (mostly grilled) ‘fry up’ for lunch.

FaithEverPresent · 12/01/2018 13:07

How is everyone getting on?

I’ve been doing pretty well. 7 full days No S since New Year. I’ve lost 1lb which is good. I’d kind of like more but I keep reminding myself it’s slow and steady. It’s got easier to stop snacking with time. Does the guilt on S days ease?! I’m having a planned S day. Not much else planned this month, off to the pub later so I figured I might as well but I have the guilts! Even though it’s planned. I think it’s years of dieting and forgoing treats.

Ruggles · 15/01/2018 07:41

I am doing well. Or was until the weekend. I too find the S day's difficult - was quite moderate on Saturday, but of course, in the swing of it by Sunday :) :). Eating too much / grazing is def a habit. I had breakfast at 6:30 this morning and I'm already feeling a bit peckish!! I haven't weighed myself as trying to do that once a month. I am worried that too much weekend eating will de-rail everything.

beela · 15/01/2018 13:41

Don't worry faith and ruggles, it takes a little while to get used to the s days. Even if you do go crazy, there is a limit to how much damage you can do in 2 days. 3500 calories = 1lb and it's hard to over eat by that much in one weekend.

I'm still resetting myself after most of December Christmas. We've still got loads of Christmas chocolate and biscuits. I might have to take some into work or we'll still be working our way through them at Easter.

BluebellTheDonkey · 15/01/2018 19:20

Hi everyone. Beela I am also still resetting after Christmas. Had a dreadful couple of days last week and then it continued into the weekend. Just wanted to eat and eat. I think I am possibly at that stage where I've lost a certain amount of weight and want to fall back into the old yoyo dieting pattern. I cannot afford to do this, nothing has worked as well as NoS for me, I know I need to just reset my habits and hang on in there. So frustrating though after 16 months of solid progress.
So today has been successful, and I need to have 4 more the same!
Hope everyone has a good week.

beela · 18/01/2018 07:00

self indulgent post warning

So today is the 1 year anniversary of my first weigh in (I started no-s a couple of weeks earlier but was too scared to stand on the scales).

In the last 12 months I have lost:

  • 18.6kg / 2 stone 12 and a bit
  • 7 inches from my waist and chest, 5 from my hips
  • 2 dress sizes, from 14-16 to 10-12
  • 2 ring sizes
  • lots of cup sizes
  • a shoe size Confused

My bmi has gone from 30.5 to 23.4.

More importantly, I have a sensible relationship with food and a way of eating that I can see working for ever. The old snacking and sugar habits are still there under the surface but the longer I eat like this the more alien they seem.

I have never 'dieted' before (although have lost weight in the past due to misery and stress). I think my eating habits lost their way when I was pregnant / had a non sleeping child and now I feel that I am back on track and then some. I'm bloody proud of myself! But also wanted to say thank you to everyone on this thread who has supported me along the way Flowers

FaithEverPresent · 18/01/2018 07:07

Wow beela that’s amazing! Shock What a diffirence. I lost the plot when I was BF and sleep deprived too. I’m glad it’s made such a difference to you.

healthandwealth · 18/01/2018 08:00

Beela that's truly amazing! Well done. You should be so proud of your achievements. You've also inspired me to get back on board, so thank you Thanks

Ruggles · 18/01/2018 16:36

Beela - congratulations, that is remarkable and such a wonderful achievement. Don't apologise for being proud. StarStarStarStar
It is so motivating and inspiring to read your post and your results - rock on!!

Bluebell - hang in there, you have my sympathy. I am still re-setting from the weekend. GrinBlushGrinBlush. First proper day back in the swing today, so going to have a slightly different approach this weekend and focus on a treat meal each day, rather than grazing (which is the habit) I am trying to break.

beela · 18/01/2018 19:42

Thanks all Smile if I can do it then anyone can.
