Happy new year everyone!

Grin I know what you mean about the chocolate!

I'm hoping the nos habits will quickly return when I get back in to a routine.

All the best for this year Smile

FaithEverPresent · 02/01/2018 10:47

Morning all, can I join? I’ve done all sorts of diets over the years - WW, low carb, Curves. Lost over 3 stone with SW but that still allowed for my sugar addiction! I used most of my syns on sugary treats. I’ve just finished reading the ‘No S diet’ book, I’ve previously read ‘Brain over binge’. I feel I’ve had my eyes opened to my bad habits and I can’t ’unknow’ what I know! I’ve massively over-indulged over Christmas.

I started this morning. I had extra cereal and a slice of toast to fill me up. I’ve switched from skimmed to semi-skimmed milk too.

One question - what do you drink to keep things varied? I drink tea - I like gingerbread tea and redbush vanilla. I’m trying to avoid sugar free squash and I don’t think it’s helpful to my sugar cravings. I’ll get bored with just tea and water!

beela · 02/01/2018 13:02

Hi faith. I have managed to convince myself that sparkling water is a treat Grin or you could try one of those bottles that you put fruit in to make the water slightly flavoured.

Loose leaf tea is great as there are so many different varieties. We've got a specialist shop near us which is amazing. I have a few different types on the go at any one time, so I don't get bored.

FaithEverPresent · 02/01/2018 14:34

Thanks beela. I realised after I posted I have sparkling water so I popped in the fridge. I’ve got frozen lemon and lime slices so I’ve added one. It does feel like a nice drink after plain water. I have one of those fruit infusers too so I’ll dig that out!

BluebellTheDonkey · 02/01/2018 21:49

Hi everyone, its me Posie I have name changed! Wishing you all a very Happy New Year. I have been eating far too much over Christmas and have been unwell with a virus too, so I know the scales will not be kind tomorrow! However I will be back to NoS for the remainder of this week and am back at work Thurs which although I am not looking forward to, will help me get back on track.
Welcome all new joiners, I have been doing this for 15 months now and it has been fab.

FaithEverPresent · 02/01/2018 22:41

Day 1 almost successfully! I only caved on seconds for tea because I was still starving! But I figured better leftover veggie chilli than a sugary snack. I’ve made it through the day without any excess sugar! Since I’ve done SW for a year I habitually count syns and I’m on about 17 (typical limit is 15) so no worse off from that perspective. I really need to kick my sugar habit though so I’ll push on with this. I’m really looking forward to the chocolate sponge puddings and biscuits I bought for the weekend! Smile I didn’t realise how much I snacked until I decided to stop.

AristonAndOn · 04/01/2018 08:59

Can I tentatively poke my head back in? So good to see so many of you still here. 🤗

BluebellTheDonkey · 04/01/2018 17:11

Ariston hello there! (Its Posie - have name changedSmile) Happy New Year and lovely to see your name pop up again.
Faith sounds like a great start. I was exactly the same with snacking in the early days of NoS, I'd go to put something in my mouth many many times a day and have to catch myself! Its all about establishing the habits so hang on in there, it does get easier.

FaithEverPresent · 04/01/2018 17:20

Thanks Bluebell! I just keep catching myself going to snack! Interestingly I’d have said I struggle with low blood sugar but I’ve been okay, like I’m hungry now but I can wait an hour and a half til dinner. I’ve been drinking loads of water (dug out my water with infuser, I’ve got lemon and lime and am keeping it in the fridge).

Hello Ariston!

beela · 04/01/2018 18:23

Hi ariston! Good to see you back. And posie / bluebell.

Sounds like a great start faith.

I'm trying to do a green day / red day log. Can I count it as a green day if my only slip up was one liquorice allsort I wonder?? I'm also doing dry January, fine at the mo but I think I'll miss my Friday evening glass of red tomorrow - and I won't even be able to replace it with chocolate!

BluebellTheDonkey · 04/01/2018 18:36

Beela I think some people on the NoS forum use a yellow for days with a very minor slip up, sounds like that's all you had.** One liquorice allsort will not make you gain weight! Good luck with dry January.
Faith you will surprise yourself with how strong you can be between meals, I always thought I had no willpower, NoS has shown me that I do! Just not to stick to stupid rigid diets 24/7Grin

BluebellTheDonkey · 04/01/2018 18:37

Oh, bold fail, oopsBlush

beela · 04/01/2018 19:04

Good point bluebell. Yellow day it is. I'll take that, after my long run of red days in December!

AristonAndOn · 04/01/2018 22:04

Hello everyone! Starting again, same time as last year and sadly heavier 😢
I have sought extra medical help for binge eating as I really felt so helpless on my yo yo cycle and I have been excepted for extra help. There is a waiting list, but at least I am on it. When I had my assessment I explained about noS and they hadn't heard of it, they were happy with its principles and said they were similar to their recommended plan, except they like you to snack.
I'm going to ease myself back into the plan, I've lost my confidence, but reading this thread as before will inspire me. Thanks for being here 💐💐💐

BluebellTheDonkey · 04/01/2018 22:21

Ariston a huge well done and respect to you for seeking help with the binge eating. I imagine that was a hard step to take, but now that you have done it you are on the road to getting the support you need. I really hope it helps you, and in the meantime delighted to see you posting on here. Any support we can give you or if you just want a chat, go ahead! I will be checking in here a bit more regularly this year, I did slack off towards the end of 2017.

AristonAndOn · 04/01/2018 22:38

Hi Bluebell. Will be lovely to have your support. It was not easy to get the help as it feels so shameful, but I'm thankful my issues are being taken seriously. I'm convinced noS is the right way, I felt so empowered last year. I've decided to ease myself slowly back in, but I think it's so important that I get my head out of the sand I've been hiding in.

Cinnamontwirl · 04/01/2018 22:42

Hi everyone, can I join? I've been doing no s for about 3 days and enjoying the freedom of not obsessing about food in between meals. It's made me realise how much I snack and how most of my eating is due to boredom and procrastination rather than actual hunger! I'd really like to continue and actually lose some weight. Have people found this way of eating has led to weight loss?

As the weekend is approaching i'd love to hear any tips or tricks for not going completely crackers and maintaining balance on S days.

FaithEverPresent · 05/01/2018 07:13

Hi Cinnamon! We started at the same time then.

Any tips on not feeling hungry at bedtime? I think I’m full after dinner (usually about 7) but then I am hungry by bedtime. I’m guessing I just need to eat a bit more?

FaithEverPresent · 05/01/2018 07:15

Bluebell, well done for recognising you have a problem. Have you read Brain over binge? I found it really enlightening and it might help you while you wait for the therapy to come through.

Mrsbclinton · 05/01/2018 11:16

Im popping in for some support, had a very successful 2017 of no S up until about the start of November.

I started a new jobaround then and I gradually let old habits slip back in.

I feel so bloated and unhealthy I really want to get the 7lbs I gained off and get back in control of my eating!

FaithEverPresent · 05/01/2018 15:58

Hello Mrsbclinton! Welcome back!

I don’t think I had enough lunch, I’m starving! I had homemade soup and bread, an apple and some grapes. Probably not enough. I might have to cave and eat a snack because we don’t usually have dinner til 7.30 ish. Seems a long time away!

Mrsbclinton · 05/01/2018 16:24

Thanks FaithEverPresent!
Could you have a coffee or tea to fill you up till dinner?

FaithEverPresent · 05/01/2018 16:50

I caved! I’d already tried staving off the hunger with tea and water. I’d started to get a headache and they can turn into humdingers if I’m not careful. I just had a small portion of corned beef hash I had to hand. I’ll chalk today up to experience. I need more protein at lunch time!

beela · 05/01/2018 18:21

Don't worry faith, you are doing really well! Protein and fat both keep me going longer than carbs. I was living mainly on avocados and eggs at one point over the summer Grin

FaithEverPresent · 05/01/2018 19:31

Ah thanks beela! I think it’s been pretty straightforward. I’ve done SW for so long I habitually count my ‘Syns’ still and I don’t think I’ve gone much over 20 anyway (you’re allowed 15). I had soup for lunch the other days but I bunged red lentils in, clearly the protein kept me going. I’m still recovering from a long-term ilness and did more today so it’s probably all contributed. Still didn’t have sugary stuff though which I’m really pleased about!
