Who's with me for couch to 5k?!

I'm going to start Couch to 5k when my new trainers arrive (today/tomorrow/weekend) and wondered if anyone wants to start too and we can have a little support group going?

I'm 39, 2 stone overweight, haven't done any running for over 10 years and even then I couldn't run 5k without walking. I have 2 young children and want to shape up. I currently swim twice a week and walk a lot (9,000 steps a day). But I'm still pretty unfit. I need to get my heart rate up!

So who is going to join me?! You need to be able to commit to 3 runs a week (30 minutes) for 9 weeks. Have a google of couch to 5k to see what it involves if you're not sure. I'll be using an app on my phone.

Who's in?!

Thanks everyone. I'm feeling a lot better today. Still have a sore throat and swollen glands but a lot chirpier! I even managed a 30 minute swim this morning. I'm going to continue with C25k from tomorrow. I had completed W2R2 so was going to go back in at W2R3, that should be okay shouldn't it?

Glad you're feeling better, well done on the swim. That should be fine going back to W2R3.

So glad it is cool now.

Badgoushk · 24/06/2017 15:10

Thanks MirabelleTree. My last run was a week ago but it was in that 32 degree heat so hopefully tomorrow will be fine!

I am in awe that you could do it in that heat !

W5R1 went wrong, but I'm a good way. It threw me as it said run 1 of 3 and I was expecting 4 runs so paused. Pressed to restart but it didn't.

DH was with me and after it became obvious it had stopped we decided to keep going on the route I had earmarked for run 3 of this week. My fitbit has logged 29 mins, think that us a bit long but I think it was 25ish mins . Who'd have thought that i'd ever be able to do that I'm a million years !

Week 4 complete! We go on holiday on Thursday, I'll hopefully manage to run on Monday, but not sure about Wednesday. Will take my trainers & sports bra but not sure I'll manage to run.

beepbeeprichie · 25/06/2017 16:54

Well done MoreProseccoNow!
I've done W4R1. The long run was daunting. I actually can't believe I managed it Smile
May try to do R2 tomorrow depending on baby naps.

MirabelleTree · 25/06/2017 17:56

Well done Prosecco and Beepbeep!

beepbeeprichie · 25/06/2017 18:14

You too MirabelleTree especially carrying on and focussing without the app!! It's interesting how today I was thinking "oh a 3 minute run well I know I can do that" whereas a week or two ago I was dreading even that.

Badgoushk · 26/06/2017 00:34

Well done everyone! I did my first run after being unwell tonight and it was fine. My knees felt a bit creaky and sore but it was otherwise okay. I start week 3 on Tuesday evening. I can't imagine how that will go!!

Well done Badgoushk Hopefully no heatwave this week to make things easier for us all.

MoreProseccoNow · 26/06/2017 21:59

W5 R1 complete! I found it totally fine, was really pleased. It was 5 min run & 3 min walk x3. I do find Jo Whiley really great to listen to - very encouraging with ideas like having a motto & wearing something silly - it keeps me going!

Had a sneaky preview of R2 & it sounds quite a step up (8 mins run & 3 mins walk x 2, I think)

Will take my trainers & sports bra on holiday, although I suspect it will be maintenance or walking rather than running.

MirabelleTree · 27/06/2017 06:48

Well done Prosecco and hope you have a lovely holiday. I'm doing W5R2 to,Ortiz which is 8 min jog, 5 min walk and 8 min jog. There isn't any talking on the Zen labs app. DH claims he is getting up and coming with me, let's see.

beepbeeprichie · 27/06/2017 12:25

Nice work Prosecco and Mirabelle!!
I've got one more run of W4 to do. Hopefully sticking with it to the halfway point bodes well for finishing all 9 weeks

Badgoushk · 27/06/2017 14:37

Well done guys! Has anyone tried running in the rain yet? I may need to do so tonight.

I just did W3R1 in the drizzle. It was okay! It was 90s, 3m, 90s, 3m with walking in between. The 3m runs weren't as bad as I had expected. In fact I preferred this week because it had fewer actual runs!!

OP posts:
MirabelleTree · 27/06/2017 18:00

Well done Badgoushk! Very impressed you got out in the drizzle. I agree about the fewer runs, find that better as I like having a quarter of the runs done after the first one,

Beepbeep nearly halfway is great.

Had a look at my app and I have 8 weeks not 9.

Pumperthepumper · 27/06/2017 19:54

I also did W3R1 in the rain tonight! Was really good actually, felt like I could have gone longer (famous last words!)

Badgoushk · 27/06/2017 23:00

Thanks MirabelleTree.

Pumper, I felt that too! I was a bit disappointed it was over.

MirabelleTree · 28/06/2017 07:08

Well done Bumper and Badgoushk I read somewhere that feeling that you can do more is a good thing and that program working.

W5R2 done in the rain.

Pumperthepumper · 28/06/2017 09:38

I used to run a lot (years ago before two kids!) and I honestly believe it's easier to run for a long time rather than stop-start-stop-start, I never really get the time to get the pace right on the short bursts so I'm knackered much quicker.

Pumperthepumper · 28/06/2017 09:38

PS also enjoyed the bit on W3 where he said 'you can call me Sanj now' ohhhhhhh 😍😍

Badgoushk · 28/06/2017 20:43

Ha ha! Pumperthepumper, I liked that bit too. I have never seen him on TV, I just listened to the voices and liked his best. He makes me feel like he really cares!

I definitely had to start off with stop/start as I wasn't fit enough to keep running initially!

Well done MirabelleTree!

MirabelleTree · 29/06/2017 10:44

Well done Pumper . I could barely manage 60 secs af the beginning so this longer amount of time is very new to me!

Badgoushk · 29/06/2017 22:41

Yay! Completed W3R2 tonight. I really enjoyed it!
