Anyone looking to lose 100lbs in 2017 - Part 2

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 04/05/2017 17:47

Hello, welcome to the second instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread Smile The first thread is here, if you want to read it: Part 1

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and we’re all starting to see some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food (at least, mine are changing!) Collectively we’ve lost 318 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time.

I will make one caveat, which I think is quite important for the spirit of the thread - we’re all here because we have a LOT of weight to lose. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this may not be the thread for you. Good luck with the weight loss, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that little speech done, I’ll shut up now Grin

Thank you very much!

Hi guys, would like to jump in on this thread. Need the kick up the ass and more importantly a bit of support!
Need to lose 80lbs.
Any tips for the first week or 2? I need to stick with this, and a good start will motivate me!
Thanks

ZestyDragon · 29/05/2017 23:27

NoTractors* I live in NI. I think lads here are automatically a bit scared of anyone who looks old enough to be their mammy :-D

Welcome aboard Ash - make a plan. What will be your method? Slimming world, WW or my personal favourite MFP? Don't plan to get it perfect for the first week or two. It took me a while to adjust to eating less and calorie counting. Think about exercise. It does help. And post here. Keep posting even when its a bad week even when you eat three easter eggs in two days like me

MirabelleTree · 30/05/2017 07:51

Well done Snap8 cracking start !

Welcome Ash. As Zesty said it takes a bit of time to get into it at first. I brought some M and S low fat ready meals to have available in case things went a bit wrong and that did help. East a decent whack of protein as it staves off hunger. My new found thing is sugar free jelly which I found as a post surgery suggestion but that's going to be staying around. Also have a batch of soup made up you can quickly have. Not everyone's cup of tea but I quite enjoy munching on a rice cake. Cherry tomatoes are good snacks. A curry alternative is Aldi's Bombay potato (226 cal) or Saag Aloo (about 212 cal) . Add a bit of protein and some more veg and it's quite nice as are their Cajun or Caribbean chicken breasts (176 cal)

New potatoes are something I've been eating a lot, they are lower GI. Do allow treats, the Aldi version of Cadbury's animals come in packs and 109 calls each. I've been given a pack of Green and Black Chocolates, the little ones and they break into tiny swpquares and are about 85 calories each. I think it is Waitrose who do a pack of 4 chocolate eclairs which are 147 calls, lovely on the weekend with an afternoon cuppa to stave off feelings of deprivation.

Staving off deprivation is very important in my book. This is going to have to be long term so it has to be sustainable and it won't be if you feel too deprived as more likely to get a sod it moment. If you do get a sod it moment it doesn't matter, it on it's own does not undo what you have done, just keep logging. Logging gives you back control and you know exactly what you are dealing with. If you have gone over you either decide to draw a line under it or compensate over the rest of the week by your food and /or exercise.

If you haven't got one and can afford one consider a Fitbit. That way you can easily compare your ins versus outs. I was shocked at how inactive I would be at weekends which were when I tended to eat more. Aim to gradually increase your step count, it does make a difference and means you have a greater daily calorie allowance. Above all believe that you can do this and will get there but accept it is going to be a long road. For inspiration have a look at the My Fitness Pal success forum and have a look at some Extreme diet makeover episodes on YouTube.

mirabelle fab tips! This is the first time I've tried to loose weight and actually be consistent rather than starving all week and blowing it wth my face in the fridge by weekend.
I'm trying to develop a healthier relationship with food so being able to have a biscuit and not think I've ruined it and binge all day is a big thing for me and I'm proud that so far I've managed Smile

Ashgr0ve · 30/05/2017 09:51

Thanks everyone! I don't think I'm ready for SW or WW just yet, maybe when the first few lbs come off I'll feel confident enough to go. I'm 5ft1 so is like to lose a bit of my roundness Grin.

I'll do MFP, actually seeing what I'm eating will be helpful (if not depressing). I'll look into the fitbit, and some classes at the gym.
Thanks Zesty and Mirabelle. I'm going to do this, I will start as I mean to go on, and I will get into a pants with buttons and zips!

Cultofpersonality · 30/05/2017 11:16

So I've decided I WILL lose 2 stone this week (maybe more, more would be nice) to get to 3stone lost.
I've added the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk into my Feel Unique basket, and only when the 2 lbs are off will I allow myself to press 'check out'
I don't need anymore lip products in my life- probably won't for the next million years hahah- so working for it instead of just buying it will be good I think (:

ChestyNut · 30/05/2017 11:39

Cult do you mean 2lbs this week? Although 2 stone would be amazing Grin

Cultofpersonality · 30/05/2017 11:40

Oops, I meant 2 lbs haha. I WILL lose 2lbs this week.

MsHeffalump · 30/05/2017 11:57

Cult I can't make head nor tail of your second sentence! Lip cheat? Feel unique? Two stone in a week is possible but pretty drastic - I did it once by giving birth, or there's always the cutting off extraneous limbs option. Good luck for two pounds!

Chesty I'm in a similar place to you re: one slip potentially leading to a whole month day of bingefest. It's tricky, but Mirabelle's advice is good. I'm allowing myself one not very healthy treat per day if I want one. Mostly not wanting one, but it's good to have the option without the guilt.

Cultofpersonality · 30/05/2017 12:12

MsHeffalump
Feel Unique is a website. Lip Cheat is the poncy name CT gave their lipliners!
I already have the lipstick and I've been wanting the liner for months. So this is how I'm going to get it.
Think I'll keep all my limbs and just go for the 2lbs 😂

ChestyNut · 30/05/2017 13:11

Cult 😂

heffalump what treats are you having?

MsHeffalump · 30/05/2017 14:26

Cult I see! Excellent idea, having non-food-based rewards. Will have to give some that to that, though not lip stuff specifically as the whole makeup thing passed me by.

Chesty today I have a mini magnum in the freezer and there's a couple of fig rolls in the cupboard. AF due Sunday so I'm planning to get some chocolate raisins in to deal with the inevitable urge to eat all the chocolate in the world. May join DD in having a couple of cookies when we visit my dad later in the week. That's about it treat-wise at the moment.

ChestyNut · 30/05/2017 15:24

So I did it! I've booked into physio for my back, hoping they dont judge me too much.

I'm trying to be kinder to self and stop neglecting me "no point because I'm too fat"
I've shaved my legs, had a smear and going to paint my toe nails Grin

stealtheatingtunnocks · 30/05/2017 15:37

Can I join the gang?

I'm just very close to being 5 stones overweight. I've always been far too fat, but, a low mood, family stress, working from home has added another dollop of 2 stones or so.

I'm REALLY good at dieting/fitness. For the first month I'm amazing at it, really motivated. Then, "something" will happen and I'll use it as an excuse to spoil my efforts. The something could be - kid being poorly, a night out, losing half a stone, feeling fitter, dropping a dress size, being busy, being bored, being sad, being happy...

So, this time I'm doing basics like avoiding carbs, batch cooking, not eating after 8pm, wine on the weekend. And, I've joined a gym - so, I'm either swimming, walking or doing a class every day.

I've lost 3lbs in a month, which, is rubbish - BUT, that's nearly 2" off my waist.

The scales are awful for my self image/belief, so, I'm going to concentrate on non-scale victories.

My current aim is to do a burpee without my massive gut getting in the way.

Me too Stealth its long term I need to concentrate on.

I'm sooo hungry, off to bed Smile

ZestyDragon · 30/05/2017 23:27

Stealth welcome :) I couldn't do the no carb thing myself as I would fail straight away so well done for managing it. Currently I am also 5 stone overweight even after losing the weight I have. Three pounds may not seem a lot but it looks like the exercise is having a very positive impact for you.

herebehippos · 31/05/2017 10:38

Have lost 1lb this week which is a small start and pretty good considering I went out for a three course dinner and ate a lot of cake. Hoping for the same again this week! Slow steady and sustainable is what I'm telling myself!

MsHeffalump · 31/05/2017 12:29

Nice one, hippos! 1lb off is great, when you consider it could have been a gain. And a pound lost with cake is definitely a win.

Weigh in day for me as well. Thanks to the lost spreadsheet I had to scroll upthread to see where I was last week. 5lbs down this week, a stone down in total, scales registering no change since Saturday for which I'm going to blame premenstrual bloat.

BreakingSad · 31/05/2017 14:36

Well done Msheffalump and herebehippos.

I've reverted to maintenance mode on MFP, as I'm completely out of sync this week. It's half term here and my routine has gone completely out of the window and I really do need routine.

herebehippos · 31/05/2017 16:38

Half term here too which is making a routine rather difficult here as well! However I have been walking a lot to get the kids some fresh air so it could be worse!

MirabelleTree · 01/06/2017 07:23

Welcome Stealth

Good news Chesty that you've booked the Physio and you're doing well with the eating a biscuit doesn't mean I've blown it thing.

Well done Msheffalump and herebehippos congratulations on your first stone MsH.

Sensible to revert to maintenance when things are difficult. Keeping up the walking is good if you can fit it in.

Great recovery here. 1 week in and nearly back to normal. Have averaged about 10k steps the last 3 days and I do I feel that all the walking I did before op has helped me to bounce back quickly, though I think I've been lucky to a large extent. Will do a 2 week weigh in tomorrow. Not managed to eat maintenance calories as finding I do better with little and often at the moment.

ChestyNut · 01/06/2017 09:19

I'm miserable today, pelvis hurts and feel exhausted and grumpy.
I just want to eat crap Sad

stealtheatingtunnocks · 01/06/2017 10:40

Yes, I get that, Chesty.

I console myself with eating crap. In fact, I bloody LOVE eating crap. Sincerely, I think I am at my happiest alone on the settee, cosy blanket on my lap, sewing or knitting, watching some tv with a glass of something nice and a packet of tunnocks teacakes. It's like my natural habitat, I feel very relaxed.

And, then, annoyingly, I get up from the settee. And, my gut flops onto my thighs. And my thighs rub together. And I feel a bit sick and a bit stiff and quite a lot ashamed.

Don't eat crap, it won't help. What MIGHT help is deciding "I really want to have a portion of Crap Of My Choice. I am going to have one portion and look forward to it and enjoy it. I will have Crap Of My Choice after I have done x, y or z". Then, you've done it consciously and that's ok. Crap's not bad - a tonne of crap is bad.

Have you looked at pain management techniques? They work, takes a bit of research and discipline, but, they do work. This guy's good, I know him online. www.paintoolkit.org
