Anyone looking to lose 100lbs in 2017 - Part 2

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 04/05/2017 17:47

Hello, welcome to the second instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread Smile The first thread is here, if you want to read it: Part 1

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and we’re all starting to see some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food (at least, mine are changing!) Collectively we’ve lost 318 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time.

I will make one caveat, which I think is quite important for the spirit of the thread - we’re all here because we have a LOT of weight to lose. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this may not be the thread for you. Good luck with the weight loss, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that little speech done, I’ll shut up now Grin

Of topic but does anyone have any tips for softening stiff fabric?

I have some new work dresses in a smaller size Grin can't wear them tho because they are STIFF!! Like wearing cardboard.
I've washed them but no joy.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 20/08/2017 20:20

FFS. I'm in such a bad mood. Such a bad mood, that I'm almost enjoying being in such a vile temper (it's just me at home tonight, bar the cat, so no witnesses!).

I've put on 4lbs Blush, near severed an artery whilst shaving my legs (mild exaggeration, perhaps), I've realised I left all of my work stuff at work, so I'm going to be woefully underprepared for a meeting, I'm bloated and spotty AND have washed that dress I was going to wear to the wedding and it has shrunk beyond all realms of decency, so I need to find something else to wear

So unimpressed! (but feel better for that little rant Grin)

Lost Gained this week: 4lb
To lose: 124 lbs
Lost to date: 27 lbs
Left to lose: 97 lbs

Tomorrow is another day... Wink

Can I join you guys too?
I dread to think how much I have to lose buts it's easily over 100 pounds, probably closer to 150 Blush
Literally woke up this morning with fresh determination but no real plan other than cutting out junk.
What is everyone else doing? Any advice please

Hi Everyone, can I please join you on the road to the 100lb down club? :) I'm 35F, 5'9, 245lbs, 42% body fat Shock I'm looking to lose 100lbs of fat. I want to get back to the gym and gain back some muscle, so my ideal finishing weight would be more like 165lb than 145lb.

My weight has gone up and up and up over the past 5 years, partly due to endometriosis & hypothyroidism which weren't diagnosed until last year. Still finding my way with the thyroid problem, lots of blood tests and doctors visits to try and get back to normal. HOWEVER, weight gain is also down to lack of exercise and very poor food choices. I was trying really hard to lose weight for years and was mystified why I was having making no progress, plus the total exhaustion from the thyroid, just made me give up and seek comfort in food.

I'm hoping that now I'm on the right track with my thyroid medication, losing weight will actually be possible if I get my diet and exercise sorted out. But I'm scared to start ... all those tried and failed attempts over the past 5 years, where it felt like I was trying to fight my body to shed weight when it didn't want to. I tried everything, CICO, Weight Watchers, 5:2, juice fasts, Atkins, Dukan and nothing worked ... I feel like I've got no idea what a healthy diet and exercise plan even looks like anymore, my head has been stuffed full of diet fads.
I also get a bit anxious when I have to track food (as much as WW or My Fitness Pal ask), I suffered with anorexia and bulimia throughout my teens and early 20s, and during this time was obsessed with tracking everything. I've found (from all those tried and failed recent diet attempts!) that tracking makes me feel stressed and leads me to restricting too much for a few weeks and then bingeing, and then giving up.

So basically, I want to start but I don't know how and I'm scared of the most popular weight loss method (tracking calories) Blush

Welcome kaleidoscope101 and MyrandaRoyce and I'd start small changes MyrandaRoyce don't get overwhelm.

I have the same mindset of Notanurse, no food forbidden and flexible. MFP has made me mindful of what I'm eating, which has helped me enormously with bad habits, it's just trying to find what works and is sustainable for the long haul.

Hope you're having a better time of it Notractors Flowers

MirabelleTree · 22/08/2017 13:35

Welcome Kaleidoscope and MyrandaRoyce

Myranda I think you are right to be careful. I got too thin about age 20, then turned to bingeing after so I have DH and thin friend who told me I had gone to far primed just to keep a gentle eye on me, not that I think I am likely to do the same all these years later but view it as a sensible precaution.

Maybe for now focus on breakfast, lunch and dinner with a variety of foods, having a good balance of protein, carbs and veg. I think maybe the having a third of your plate as vegetables might be helpful here. Maybe build in something you really enjoy as a treat, and aim to have a more relaxed day at the weekend where you have a sensible breakfast and lunch plus a main meal that you would usually do.

Focus on health and eating when you are hungry, don't ban anything but try to keep those things you know are high in fat or sugar to a small amount and look at introducing some exercise if you haven't done any - a lot of us have had a lot of success walking.I wonder whether given your history your GP might be able to refer you to someone who could help?

Went swimming earlier. My chest hasn't shrunk much but my arse has and my swimsuit is baggy at the bottom. It accumulated water then let it all out as I got out of the pool, sure it looked like I wet myself !

Hercy · 22/08/2017 16:08

Hello all :)

I've been slowly finding my feet with getting back to healthy eating and upping the walking. Next step is getting back to the gym! And I must get into the habit of posting stats here every week (I weigh myself on Mondays). Last week I lost 4lbs, would be nice for the same again next week.......

Just wanted to share that I've just made an annoying mistake.... I needed to kill some time in Sainsburys so had a wander and choose a 1l bottle of Volvic touch of fruit to drink in the office this afternoon (normally drink herbal tea). I've just finished it and noticed it has nearly 200 calories! What a bloody waste of calories. I thought it was spring water with a touch of real lemon in it which would have been minimal calories. Serves me right for not checking the label. Let no-one else get burnt by the so-called "water"!!!

Hello all Smile and welcome to Kaleidoscope and Myranda

I'm in a much better mood today - and have even found myself a new dress in Primark, so all sorted Smile. (Mirabelle 's saggy arse story cheered me up quite a bit too Grin)

hercy what a pain, but just goes to show how insidious sugar can be in our diets without realising it. I did see this online recently dont use it as ironing water so it could be worse Wink

Waves to everyone else, will pop back in tomorrow for a full name check and catch up.

Hercy · 23/08/2017 14:56

I'm still annoyed about it today, although at least I suppose I didn't ruin my iron with it. Herbal tea only this afternoon...

Feeling horribly bloated at the moment, which I think is due to ovulation, but I'm going to blame on that evil Volvic water as well!

Am on track today, have done 10k steps and have a healthy dinner planned. But am generally finding it hard not to be frustrated with myself for putting so much back on. Grrrr.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 23/08/2017 20:20

Well done for today hercy - 10k before 3pm is good going! I've only just hit that now - I really need to get moving more. I curse my former self too, but I remember how this feels, and how I'm determined never to feel this way again. We're going to lose this, and lose it for good Smile

NoTractors, I've got a dog so go for a walk before work which is when I get most of my steps in. And then a walk to the shops at lunch time from either the office or home is only 10 minutes each way, which covers the rest.

If I didn't have a dog or didn't have shops so close, I think I would really struggle to get the steps in, so I'm pretty luck in that respect. My gym is also a 10 minute walk, so again very easy when I take the plunge to get back into it.

Congratulations to NotaNurse :) It's amazing how much of a positive effect weight loss can have on confidence and general mental state.

MirabelleTree · 24/08/2017 14:26

Congratulations NotaNurse , that really is brilliant news. I agree losing weight can definitely boost confidence levels.

We're all on the right track with the walking according to the News today www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-41030630. , apologies to the under 40's of you ! I make myself get the bulk of my steps in before 10.30am with dog walk or combination of jogging (I'm getting slower again) and dog walk. But I'm lucky I have the time in the morning currently to be able to do this. Currently doing a good sloth impression, need to get up and do something productive.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 24/08/2017 14:37

Congratulations NotaNurse.

Welcome to the new newbies. The more, the merrier here. Grin

I'm glad you have a new dress NoTractors, I'm still quite sad about the old one shrinking though, it was a very pretty dress.

Hercy · 24/08/2017 16:10

Well, I'm having a productive afternoon at work internet clothes shopping Grin

Struggling with the old dilemma of what size to buy - not wanting to buy at my current size because I hope I'm not at it for much longer, but having hardly anything to wear at the moment because I got rid of a load of my fat clothes last year. But I don't want to waste money on things that will hopefully be unwearable in a few months, but then I have a holiday and some social events coming up and I want nice things to wear.

Gah, it's a minefield. I think I might go for a combination of my current size plus one size down and hope for the best!

ChestyNut · 24/08/2017 18:06

Excellent nota Star

I've lost 2stone 9lb so I must look different, right?
Why can't I tell? Sad

ChestyNut · 24/08/2017 18:07

hercy me too, holiday in November and if I leave it all the summer clothes will have gone but if I buy now they might be too big by then!

Hercy · 25/08/2017 08:40

Chesty, if you're anything like me, you'll have good days and bad days. I can remember when I had lost about 4 stone I felt fatter than ever. I knew I had gone down at least 3 dress sizes, but I just felt bigger. Then i'd lose a couple of pounds/have a good workout and look at myself positively and think I'm looking half decent, but I was looking the same as I did when I felt enormous. It's weird. It's so much to do with attitude. I think exercise can really help with the mental side of things.

Not sure what to suggest on clothes, I still haven't decided and my basket is sitting waiting to be checked out with several of the same items in three different sizes!

swlondonnanny · 25/08/2017 09:54

Chesty I find leggins and short dresses/tunics (mostly stretchy ) very useful. Something you are happy to wear a bit tight but also a bit roomy if needed. Maybe slightly cheaper supermarket/primark/TKMaxx ones so you don't regret spending money on it
