Anyone looking to lose 100lbs in 2017 - Part 2

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 04/05/2017 17:47

Hello, welcome to the second instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread Smile The first thread is here, if you want to read it: Part 1

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and we’re all starting to see some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food (at least, mine are changing!) Collectively we’ve lost 318 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time.

I will make one caveat, which I think is quite important for the spirit of the thread - we’re all here because we have a LOT of weight to lose. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this may not be the thread for you. Good luck with the weight loss, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that little speech done, I’ll shut up now Grin

Loss this week- 2lbs
Total- 31lbs 4oz
To lose- 69lbs

Spa day was lovely on Friday. Really enjoyed the swimming but suffering with my back since. Think it's the position I swim in, head and chin up so face doesn't get wet Grin

As instructed I am going to make a conscious effort to eat "proper lunch with protein" this week. It best not make me gain weight tho Hmm

stealth I try not to buy things like that so I can't make snap decisions as I don't always have the will power to take a breath and think about what's really wrong rather than stuffing my face. It's hard isn't it Flowers

mirabelle 5 stones is AMAZING Star

Can't scroll back so will read thread and catch up properly.

MirabelleTree · 16/07/2017 11:19

Thanks BreakingSad Ran it past friend who knows about these things and she sounded unconcerned and said it is because I'm fit - not entirely sure about that ! Well done on maintaining this week.

Well done Notanurse nearly a third of the way there now. So sorry about your gallbladder, I know how utterly debilitating it can be Flowers

Stealth I would love to go to Italy. Glad it was good ! That 4lb will be off soon and good practice for maintenance as it's the not letting a gain get out of hand which marks those who maintain and those who pile weight back on. Draw a line under Nutellagate. No suggestions re reading on emotional eating but hopefully someone has seen something.

Well done Chesty , glad the spa day was good. Sorry about the backache though. Maybe to give you confidence about this week with the lunch you could work out roughly how many calories your cereal bar and fruit was and replace it with a equivalent. Ideas off the top of my head are 2 egg mushroom and tomato omelette with salad, chicken breast marinate , new potato and veg, tuna salad. Mini babybel lights, humous, cheery tomatoes, chicken and rice cakes. Greek salad with small amount of feta and olives but lots of beg and balsamic vinegar dressing, chicken stir fry .Not exciting but relatively filling for not lots of calories.

Mirabelle I would agree with your friend on this one, mine is way to high but was like that ever since I was little. Only time it was more 'normal' was when I was exercising quite a lot around 12 years ago...
Well done on all the running and 5 stone is a massive weight loss.
Also it looks like you are over 2/3 of your weight loss.... well done!!!
Can I ask how you calculated your goal weight? Is it based on BMI?

swlondonnanny · 16/07/2017 17:56

Notanurse I am not a nurse actually, think the 'maternity nurse' job title is a bit misleading but that's what it is called. It is really 'maternity nanny' job. I don't do it anymore as it doesn't agree with me but I used to work 24/5 or 24/6 (short bookings from 2 weeks to up to 5mnths) in private households to help care for their new born, teach parents what to do, establish feeding / sleeping routine, support/advice on breastfeeding, do the night feeds if baby was bottle fed etc. It was exhausting - physically AND mentally. When I met my now DH and we decided to TTC I stopped and only did a mix of daytime nannying + some nights.
Sadly I am not fit...

MirabelleTree · 16/07/2017 18:32

Thanks SWlondonnanny. I think my goal weight my need to change a bit. At the moment it's 100lbs off on my scales which will be 2lbs lighter in reality. That still puts me 12lb over my BMI but I have a large frame and big chest so had decided that would probably be fine. I'm viewing it as phases - phase 1 was first half, phase 2 is second half of the 100lb. Phase 3 is re-evaluate goal weight and potentially lose further 12lbs plus lead into maintenance as I think after all this I would like to be just in a 'normal BMI.

swlondonnanny · 16/07/2017 19:06

Thank you Mirabelle I would need to lose another 4.5 stone (29kg) for my BMI to be

Calculating body frame size
Overview

Body frame size is determined by a person's wrist circumference in relation to his height. For example, a man whose height is over 5' 5" and wrist is 6" would fall into the small-boned category.

Determining frame size: To determine the body frame size, measure the wrist with a tape measure and use the following chart to determine whether the person is small, medium, or large boned.

Women:

Height under 5'2"
Small = wrist size less than 5.5"
Medium = wrist size 5.5" to 5.75"
Large = wrist size over 5.75"
Height 5'2" to 5' 5"
Small = wrist size less than 6"
Medium = wrist size 6" to 6.25"
Large = wrist size over 6.25"
Height over 5' 5"
Small = wrist size less than 6.25"
Medium = wrist size 6.25" to 6.5"
Large = wrist size over 6.5"
Men:

Height over 5' 5"
Small = wrist size 5.5" to 6.5"
Medium = wrist size 6.5" to 7.5"
Large = wrist size over 7.5"

I haven't been within normal bmi for about 25 years now but I have never run 5k before so all bets are off as far as I'm concerned! I think it is absolutely vital that we all think about what happens after weight loss as the stats re weight regain are quite depressing. I know that I'll have to work at this for the rest of my life or it will go back on again and I'm just not prepared to let that happen.

swlondonnanny · 16/07/2017 19:34

Thank you Mirabelle according to the above article I am medium frame (just). Couple of weeks ago my wrist was slightly bigger (based on my fit gear fit) so that would have put me in large frame. So guess I won't ever be very light and tiny....

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 16/07/2017 19:52

I've never thought to check waist to height swlondon. I'm guessing that it would be hard for me to ever get it in the right range as I'm extremely apple-shaped. The last time that I lost weight I took my measurements as I was loosing and in standard UK sizes my chest was a 16/18, my hips were a smallish 14 and my waist was a 22 verging on a 24. I have always had trouble getting trousers that fit my waist but don't have acres of flappy fabric around my hips. Uniqlo legging trousers are fab, btw, and Wallis do stretchy side-zipping trousers that are good too.

Thanks Mirabelle, I'm large-framed according to that article. I know that I would be though as even when I was a slim teenager I had trouble getting women's watches to fit my wrist. Still, on the positive side, nobody on either side of my family has ever had easily broken bones, which is a useful attribute to have considering how debilitating that is for an older person.

swlondonnanny · 16/07/2017 22:33

BlackAmericano I have issues with trousers as well. My natural waist is quite high and I am quite tall as well (5'11) so with the current fashion of trousers which sit 'just below waist' I can't fit into any and find it very uncomfortable. So just live in leggins (high waisted Grin) and dresses/tunics... anything for comfort

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 17/07/2017 10:30

Oh dear. I fell very badly off the wagon at the hotel - but I had such a nice time, that I'm not even a little contrite Blush Grin A bit of fun that was so very much needed.

DEFINITELY on the straight and narrow this week - off work this week too, so I'm going to the shops in a bit and will be shopping very healthily! Then off for a walk to burn some energy off the DCs Smile

Here's to a better week! Brew

Thanks for that scale Mirabelle, according to that I have a large frame which does make sense. At my lightest (13.4) I was still wearing a 16 and have broad shoulders and hips.

Hope you have a good week Notractors and glad you enjoyed the weekend!

I've been feeling really down lately and I'm having a lot of trouble expressing that to anyone irl. I feel lonely and a bit abandoned by my friends who only seem to get in touch when they want or need something. Dh is being brilliant though which helps a lot.

BreakingSad · 17/07/2017 23:18

Sorry you're feeling so down RumtopfFlowers It sounds like you have a wonderful dh by your side. Hope your friends come round, I'd be horrified if my friend was suffering and I hadn't realised. Be kind to yourself.

MirabelleTree · 18/07/2017 07:53

So sorry Rumtopf , it's horrible when that happens Flowers I ditched a couple of people like that once and felt much better for it.

Rumtopf · 18/07/2017 09:25

I'm actually considering joining the WI (although I need to find out first if they're all over 65) to find some like minded people. I was a childminder and since I closed my business down last year and stopped having everyone's children I'm clearly forgotten about which is rubbish but shows me truly what they're like.
I'm going to do the ironing in front of Nashville today so I can have a good sob and get it out of my system! Onwards and upwards.

Does anyone take their clothes in? Or just buy new in smaller sizes? I've got a couple of dresses from at my largest which could do with having the back and waist tightened a little as they're so lovely I'm loathe to get rid.

MirabelleTree · 18/07/2017 10:57

That's a good idea Rumtopf I think we go through phases and friendships change and also weight loss can change the dynamics. I did a spur of the moment evening class in January which took me wel, out of my comfort zone but I found for the first time I was meeting people who didn't know me in my role as Mother which was highly liberating.

I totally understand how you feel Rum - with my friends, I've always dug in when times got a little rocky, but the support just isn't there when I could do with it Hmm I've heard really good things about the WI (or SWI as it is up here) - someone I know is very active in it, and they have a real mix of ages, from mid 20s upwards. I might consider giving it a go myself in the future Smile

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/07/2017 16:15

Is it to do with being summer time Rumtopf? I find that all my friends are either away or juggling kids for the summer so I don't really see them until term starts again. If you text everyone and say something like 'I'm bored, anyone up for meeting for a coffee' do they generally ignore you? I know that time passes very quickly and my friends get caught up in daily life so I give them a little prompt to meet up if I haven't seen them for a while.

If they're always not there unless they need you then you definitely have space for some new friends.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/07/2017 16:18

This dieting thing has made me a lot more sympathetic to my dog. 😂 He's a terrier and basically always hungry, he's currently sitting right beside me singing for his dinner, which isn't due for another hour. I know how he feels, I'm not singing about it though.

swlondonnanny · 19/07/2017 09:42

Rumtopf sorry that you are feeling down. Friendships are complicated but if you don't get any support from your friends and they only contact you when they need something that they are not friends...
Re the clothes - I just buy new (or finally fit into some of my 'old' clothes) but I buy relatively cheap work dresses /leggins as I wash them all the time and they never last long time anyway so have to bin them quite often. Have a few lovely dresses and winter coat I bought last year and they are huge now so sending dresses to my sister who is due her 4th child in December (at least it saves he some money on maternity clothes and I won't feel guilty for wasting money as they were quite pricey) and the winter coat will go to my mum who really liked it last winter and fitted her well... the raincoat I bought last year I will still wear even though it is big as can't be wasting money on something I'll wear for about a month before I can wear winter coat (which luckily I have an 'old' one which fits again)....

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 19/07/2017 10:41

I'm not sure if this a non-scales victory or a wardrobe victory (as it has been so long since I've worn it) but today I'm wearing an ankle length crinkle skirt, which I'm swishing about in and feel almost glam. It was one I bought years ago in Long Tall Sally and has been unloved for many years - it doesn't look too frumpy either, I'm well chuffed! Grin

swlondonnanny · 19/07/2017 11:58

NoTractors yay!!!! I did a little dance for you! Must feel great for you to wear it today Grin

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 19/07/2017 12:04

Oooh, I love swishing. I wore an empire line maxi dress yesterday and swished all over the place. The dress used to be a bit snugger, and tbh it looked better snug as it made my boobs look great, but it was still nice to swish.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 19/07/2017 16:05

Can confirm that swishing, even while gutting the spare room, is infinitely better than not-swishing Smile The cat and the DCs think I'm quite mad Blush
