1000 calories a day?

lifesjoys · 29/04/2017 23:09

2 weeks today, I have been on a 1000-1200 calorie a day diet.

Each day, I eat a bowl of bran flakes & either chilli con carne or spaghetti bolognase.

I may also have a 5kcal jelly pot if I have any!

I hit all my nutrient targets or as close to.

If I'm doing okay on it, can I carry on??

I've lost 35lbs in nearly 5 weeks.

If starvation mode is real, how come POWs and people from poor areas of the world are so skinny?
I lost weight (3 stone) very quickly by cutting out sugar and processed food. 2 stone came off in about 6 weeks, then I went through about 6 weeks of plateau and drop to lose another stone.
I used MFP for a short while, but started obsessing over food with all the logging (not to mention the different calories listed for the same foods which was very confusing) and if I had a few calories left at the end of the day I would eat some more even if I wasn't very hungry.
OP all I would say is that if it works for you (and I think there's a method for everyone to lose weight) brilliant!

PickAChew · 01/05/2017 14:31

Ok, I've been nosy and op has a newborn, so will lose weight a little faster than average.

I'd still speak to your GP at your 6 week check. Particularly because your body has a lot of recovering to do from growing a baby.

glenthebattleostrich · 01/05/2017 14:34

OP have a look at the blood sugar diet. The book explores crash diets and how they work and why as long as you are eating healthier it's fine to do.

Agoddessonamountaintop · 01/05/2017 14:35

I'm sorry if I came across as rude; I was perplexed that someone who was describing others' opinions as 'rubbish' and mocking their 'advice' was in fact doing the very same thing themselves - expressing an opinion without backing it up with facts.
Nothing wrong with that in itself - I do it all the time and MN would barely exist without it. But if I came on a thread to trash robustly oppose said opinions I think I'd at least try to provide a bit of proof to a potential convert.

DarkestBeforeDawn · 01/05/2017 14:51

I've lost almost three stone eating under 1200 cals p/day with no problems. You simple need to have a balanced diet to get all the nutrients. And starvation mode is a complete and utter myth.

lifesjoys · 01/05/2017 17:48

I started off at 17st 1lb on the 27th March this year.

I am now 14st 8lbs

Bit of info:
27 years
5ft 6in
No exercise currently (waiting for 6 week check next week)
My stomach is flabby only because I've had a baby
My BMI is currently: 32.9
My calorie intake should be:1600-2000 a day

OP posts:
lifesjoys · 01/05/2017 17:55

Oh & I was 16st 4lbs when I fell pregnant

Loubilou09 · 01/05/2017 17:55

Goddess you have spectacularly misread my posts and the thread. I haven't not offering advice or my opinion on any of them apart from the first post I made.

I therefore don't need to back up any of my "advice" or "opinions" with any facts...

My posts in themselves ARE the facts. It is a fact that Starvation Theory is a myth, I gave you the resources for you to check it yourself if you don't believe this fact, but that my statement is factual.

Its everyone else that is offering advice and opinions and not backing them up with anything factual. Because of this they could be misleading the OP into making a decision she doesn't want to make based on what is basically a load of old tosh.

dumplingstew · 01/05/2017 17:57

Lifesjoy I'm pretty much in the same boat. I started last Monday with the same idea of 1000 calories a day. In a week I've lost 9lb.
I'm also doing 30 day shred and making sure I drink 2litres of water a day.
The way I see it is surely it's got to be more healthy than being so over weight.
Good luck

lifesjoys · 01/05/2017 18:10

Dumpling

That's great!
I don't drink 2l a day at the min solely because I'm suffering a bit of SUI! Blush
Il also be introducing duck eggs into my diet (can't eat chicken eggs)
I have also done a bit of research & broccoli is low in carbs/calorie content & has enough nutrients not to need fruit (high in carbs)

GivenupontheGarden · 01/05/2017 18:18

Dumplingstew Yummy by the way! What do you eat typically in a day? I've got half a stone to lose.

Agoddessonamountaintop · 01/05/2017 20:23

Doh it never works when I get arsey!
Off to my friend google I go Blush.

Pigwitch · 01/05/2017 20:29

Lou what are you on about? It's all about personal opinion and you have no facts to back up your crap. And even if you did I wouldn't be interested because you're a confrontational aggressive twat.

Loubilou09 · 01/05/2017 21:04

It most certainly should not be about personal opinion though Pig? That's the whole point I am trying to bloody well make! Your opinions are complete and utter rubbish and irrelevant and you would have done better not posting but alas you did feel the need to opine sadly.

There are plenty of facts to back up my statements - I have told you where they are...it's very simple to look it up for yourself dear.

PaintingOwls · 01/05/2017 21:09

You're likely losing water and muscle mass. That's dangerous. You should start exercising, especially weight training, and increase your calories because this is not sustainable. For one, what will you do when you reach your goal weight?

lifesjoys · 01/05/2017 21:23

I will simply tweak my diet to maintain.

I'm constantly tweaking my diet to ensure I don't hit a plateau.

I eat between 1000-1200 a day, 1600 is far too much, I don't lose.

I will be starting gentle exercise next week once I've been given the all clear from the doctor.

In April 2014, I weighed 17st 11lbs by October 2014 I weighed 14st.

Between oct 14 & April 16, I obviously fluctuated between 14-15st but went back down to 14.

I only gained the weight again because I fell pregnant.

I take my eating habits very seriously now, whereas before, I fell off track whenever I went out for food, on weekends, met someone new.

I'm always researching.

I started a 1000 calorie a day diet solely to kick start my weight loss & to "fast", I was seriously falling back into the hole of eating a ridiculous amount of chocolate & wanted to get rid of my cravings.

budgiegirl · 01/05/2017 21:24

Umm, maybe she'll eat a bit more? Enough that she doesn't lose any more weight but doesn't gain either. She doesn't have to stick to 1000 cals for the rest of her life, just while she's losing weight.

I do agree that she should do some exercise, to protect against muscle loss.

ThatsWotSheSaid · 01/05/2017 21:37

I am on a diet and I have read that magnisum and potassium levels are the biggest worry. Why don't you ask your GP? people get very upset about VLCD's (very low calorie diets) so much so I do it in secret. It's the only diet that has ever worked for me. If I could just eat sensibly then I would but for some reason I find being exreme is the only way I can do it.

dumplingstew · 01/05/2017 21:45

I've been skipping breakfast (which I have always done) for lunch I will have a ham sandwich on whole meal bread and Philadelphia. Dinner I'll have a small portion of spag Bol, stir fry, chicken salad, sausage and veg. And snacks I'll have low cal popcorn, hummus and cucumber, fruit, small kit Kat.

lifesjoys · 01/05/2017 22:36

f I could just eat sensibly then I would but for some reason I find being exreme is the only way I can do it.

Shock me too!!

It's all or nothing, no in between.

I couldn't eat a dessert one day & then not again for say 2 weeks, I eat it everyday or not at all.

If I eat a lot, I EAT a good 4000 calories a day Blush hence the 1000 a day diet!

Yep, will be starting exercise next week, I want to start now but keep getting told to speak with the doc first 😡

phoenixtherabbit · 01/05/2017 22:39

7lb a we is unhealthy and unsustainable.

If you're only eating two meals a day that's not particularly healthy either in my opinion.

I would feel incredibly hungry on your diet. I do 1500 calories a day and find that plenty. I lose around 1-2lbs a week on a 'perfect' week. I would up it to 1300 at the least if I'm honest.

lifesjoys · 01/05/2017 22:41

Dumpling, I admire you!

The fact you have control to eat ONE kit Kat is worthy of a knighthood by the queen! (Obviously the female version).

If I eat one kit Kat, it's like I suddenly turn into a crazy person & eat a ridiculous amount!

I shamelessly went to Iceland (whilst pregnant) & bought a share size chocolate bar, a pack of French fancies & finally those gold egg things.

I ATE THE LOT!

It's been over 2 weeks (into my 3rd week) since I've touched chocolate, crisps, sweets, anything with added sugar.

I do however eat those Hartley jelly pots (6 calories might I add!).

I ate four of them today.

OP posts:
lifesjoys · 01/05/2017 22:43

1000 calories a day currently works for me only because I do no exercise, I simply walk to the car & back.

Once I start exercise, I will be adding in lunch each day.

OP posts:
phoenixtherabbit · 01/05/2017 22:43

Oh and whoever said about the friend eating 600 cals a day - you can't be a very good friend to that person if you know they're eating so little and letting them get on with it.

I'd be incredibly worried about my friend if they were doing that because it's unhealthy and not a brilliant way to lose weight.

phoenixtherabbit · 01/05/2017 22:44

I still think 1000 calories is too low regardless of how much or how little exercise you're doing. I'm surprised you don't feel like crap all the time to be honest!
