1000 calories a day?

lifesjoys · 29/04/2017 23:09

2 weeks today, I have been on a 1000-1200 calorie a day diet.

Each day, I eat a bowl of bran flakes & either chilli con carne or spaghetti bolognase.

I may also have a 5kcal jelly pot if I have any!

I hit all my nutrient targets or as close to.

If I'm doing okay on it, can I carry on??

I've lost 35lbs in nearly 5 weeks.

Last summer, I lost 11lbs in 2 weeks before a holiday.

I ate 600 cals a day, did loads of exercise and felt completely fine. I find it really easy to skip breakfast as I rarely eat it. I'd just eat about 200 cals for lunch and then 400 for dinner.

I had no lack of tone, or loose skin.

I was able to eat whatever I wanted on holiday (although I still ran every day) and I only gained 3lbs.

I don't know about doing it long term, but I love doing it once a year or so - it really works for me.

Phoenix - my friend is doing a VLCD. She's a very good friend and yes I am letting her get on with it seeing as she a) is an adult b) intelligent enough to decide for herself whether to carry on with the diet or not c) consulted her gp before going on the diet and d) looks and feels amazing.

I am not in the slightest bit worried about her, neither is her diet consultant or her GP so you don't need to worry yourself either.

I cannot believe a gp would be ok with a 600 calorie a day diet!

People on the 800 calorie a day BSD all rave about how good they feel.

I'm not worried, I don't know her. I'd be worried if she was my friend, and I'd be telling her to ditch her 'diet consultant' whatever one of those is and switch to a more responsible gp!

People off their faces on coke rave about how good they feel too, doesn't mean it's healthy or you should recommend it.

Lou - I'm not interested . You're a twat

You have to get GP approval before doing a VLCD Phoenix so whilst you "can't believe it". I suggest you also do some research and find out the facts before offering your opinion. It's well documented.

You have to get gp approval?

That's bollocks though isn't it? Unless you gp watches your every move and does your food shop with you? How on earth would they know you were doing it unless you told them?

Loubilou09 · 01/05/2017 22:55

The company won't let you undertake the diet without a signed and stamped GP approval form. Again it's well documented - look it up for yourself instead of arguing the toss with me, it's very tiresome.

The company?

So I'm guessing she's living off shakes and not eating any actual food?

Yes bet she feels amazing.

I've just googled it and vlcd's are only recommended if you're obese, you have tied to lose weight other ways and failed and you're not continuing to lose weight. A doctor is not going to recommend that to someone lightly surely.

gold egg things do you mean the galaxy ones? They are my crack!
I find if I eat any sugar or carbs it starts my cravings off but my major downfall is alcohol. There is always a birthday/wedding/holiday and I love a drink. Then obviously I need to eat a fry up the next day too.
I also love low cal jelly

Phoenix I don't really understand what point you are trying to make and what questions you would like answering.

As I said my friend is doing a VLCD which has been approved by her GP. It's her choice, her life and her body and I will leave her to continue to make her own decisions about her life and her body without sticking my nose in. Her GP is happy with her choice and he is well aware of her medical history.

I don't actually give a crap Lou. It s funny that my opinions on weight loss allow me to be fit , trim and healthy . My theory can't be that wrong can it.

My point is you cannot recommend diets like that to people unless you're qualified to do so (which I'm guessing you're not)

It's really irresponsible to spout all this 'my friend eats 600 calories a day and she feels amazing' shit on the Internet.

If you're friend is genuinely doing this with gp approval she must have been very overweight, with a high bmi, and have struggled to lose weight SENSIBLY before hand.

If you read the nhs website it says diets like this aren't suitable for most people. There are healthier ways to lose weight which are more sustainable.

Eating more, but better healthier, actual food, rather than meal replacement shit, and exercising (which op I do appreciate you will do when you can which is great) is so much better than doing one of these shit crash diets that are designed to make money out of people who do it and then regain the weight when they start eating actual food again.

Have you ever thought someone vulnerable could be reading this? Someone who has self esteem issues or is on the path to an eating disorder? They might read your comment and think oh well her friend eats an apple and some dust a day and feels great I'll do that. That can be so dangerous, especially in teenagers and young adults who are still developing etc.

You're acting like you've got a PhD in nutrition when really I'm guessing you've just been spouted some bullshit by someone on the Cambridge diet.

Are you bf'ing OP? I think I just read you have a new baby. If you are then you probably need more calories anyway to feed your baby.

Phoenix - I haven't recommended the diet to anyone. Please point me to the post where I did that. All I did was tell the facts which are that a) my friend is doing a VLCD which equates to 600 calories a day b) she feels and looks amazing c) it's been approved by her GP.

None of this is in the slightest bit irresponsible as it's a true statement of something happening in real life right now. Nowhere did I say my friend eats an apple and some dust a day. Pauline Quirk talks about her weight loss on the same diet in the papers, on TV as does Denise Welch - are you going to tell them off for being irresponsible too? Grin

In fact there are some VLCD threads on this very site....are you going to tell all those people off for being irresponsible?

Every bite of the bsd is nutritious, though. It's a far cry from sugary bran flakes and a small portion of tomatoey mince with pasta or rice, every day.
