Small amount to lose but want support?

Just weighed in after a couple of short breaks. I was allowing myself to eat / drink what I wanted and knew it would result in a gain which is fine but just feel I need to get straight on to losing it.

I am 5ft 5, 43 years old and this morning weigh 10st 4.6lbs. I want to lost at least half a stone, ideally 9lbs.

I know there are obviously lots of other threads available but often people have longer term goals on them. I started a "less than a stone" thread before and it was quite busy so thought I'd give it a go again Smile

Hello all, and well done to those with losses to report.

Weighed in this morning and I was my lowest this year, down 3.8kg since 18 April, not bad for two and a half weeks! I have 2kg to my end of half term target, which seems quite manageable right now. I've booked myself into legs, bums and tums both tomorrow and Sunday and I'll go for a run while I'm in the gym too.

Painting I agree, wholefoods, unprocessed foods are the way forward. Keeps your blood sugar much more stable and keeps the cravings at bay.

Joinourclub · 05/05/2017 20:29

I had a sneaky early weigh in today as I've been good all week , and i have just slipped below ten stone! Hopefully that motivates me to be good this weekend, as I usually over indulge in food and booze. Curry tonight, but I don't need to eat it ALL!

eltsihT · 06/05/2017 07:51

Giddy aunt thank you for the fizzy water tip. I drank much less than normal but always had a drink in my hand.

i had always thought a spritzer was made with lemonade whis I find makes the wine too sweet but this was lovely.

Giddyaunt18 · 06/05/2017 08:54

Morning eltishT glad that helped. Yes in a pub they normally ask lemonade or soda so I just order a white wine and soda. Beware though because they will put a whole measure of wine in and top up with soda whereas at home you can half your wine. Wink

I am whoop whooping this morning as 1lb off after no movement on the scales all week, so 9st 12 now. Grin it's working(even had a cheeky bottle of Becks last night!) Have a good weekend all.

*halve even!

Hello

I'm late joining but this feels like the right thread for me.
I've about 10lbs to lose (haven't weighed myself yet but I can guess it's about that) and I really need to get some control/structure around my eating. I'm usually ok all day and then I eat chocolate/ice cream/sweet stuff at the end of the day and totally lose the plot. It's comfort eating and I want to ditch it.
I exercise quite regularly (dynamic yoga twice a week, and try to cycle to work a few days). I've signed up for a mini triathlon later this year so I have a lot of training to get in but I wil enjoy that. The danger is that exercise just makes me hungrier!
Before Christmas I had lost a few lbs without trying too hard because I was running a bit, and I felt great for the first time in ages, but then I got injured and stopped running and the weight piled on.
Any tips that you have found helps?
I think I'll use mfp - at least for a couple of weeks - so I can get a reality check on my actual calorie intake.
X

theredjellybean · 06/05/2017 09:04

ok so i weighed this morning as my starting weight ( had gone out for dinner last night and did try to be goodish...had fish dish and only one glass of wine and no pudding).
I weighed 74.6 kg today..i want to be 70 kgs by 23 july for my holiday .
i know the extra couple of kgs have crept on becuase of snacking...i work from home 3 days a week for last yr and i am constantly opening the fridge door....must stop that !
I am going to think about getting to 72 kgs as my first goal..
i know it is small amount but i need small achievable steps
this week my aim is to not eat between meals

theredjellybean · 06/05/2017 09:08

hello bumble..i only joined thread yesterday and have same amount of weight to lose as you roughly
i am also a runner who put pounds on due to stopping running due to injury, been back at it since jan and running 10 k in a few weeks, managing three 7 k runs per week and one fast 4 k run.
doesnt seem to be doing anything for weight though :( possibly cus i have developed shocking snacking habits ( cocktail sausages anyone ?)
i am determined to get back to 70 kg..and am terrified of gaining all the weight i lost . I lost 4.5 st approx 5 yrs ago so really do not want to go back there

Bumblebzz · 06/05/2017 09:24

#theredjellybean
Wot that is a lot of running, well done!
I'm hoping that with a good level of exercise, by just making some obvious adjustments (I snack too and I'm sure I can consume a few hundred cals just 'picking' before I even sit down for my actual meal) it will be possible to start losing some weight, slowly but surely.
I've read back the whole thread now and there are some good tips, mindful eating probably being the most resonant one for me.

blowawayblonde · 06/05/2017 09:55

I didn't weigh myself on Friday, I didn't have a great week, (lots of party wine) didn't want to see the results in the scale!

Will be much better behaved next week, and get this shifted.

FitbitAddict · 06/05/2017 11:20

bumble and jellybean as a fellow runner I have to say that weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise. I try not to eat between 8pm and at least 10.30am, often not until lunch. Some days I'm so busy that lunch doesn't happen either so I usually take something I can eat while multitasking.

What's working for me is intermittent fasting (5:2) and mostly avoiding sugar and processed foods, say 6 days a week. I lost 2st a few years ago but one of them had found me again as I'd taken my eye off the ball! If I eat crap I could run for miles and yet still gain weight. I'm 49 btw so no spring chicken unfortunately.

PaintingOwls · 06/05/2017 11:27

Morning all!

I had a good Parkrun today, I managed to cut 4 minutes off my previous 5k, so I'm feeling really good about that. Bit nervous that I've pulled my hamstring though, trying to rest it.

Had my first protein cookie which was nice until I got to the last bits and the taste of protein powder really started to build up.

SuperFlyHigh · 06/05/2017 11:34

Can I join you?

5 ft 4 and a half and just 11 stone at a guess, will weigh another morning. Would dearly like to lose a stone.

So far this morning had one small slice Vogel soya and grain toast with flora provamel spread and marmite. 3 x cups tea with skimmed milk. 1 x digestive biscuit and 1 marmite cheddar bite. Also 1 big bag BBQ hula hoops which I see are 250g! Oh and a small M&S white chocolate egg (left over from Easter).

Last night was out with friends had tapas (all the usual suspects including calamari, patatas bravas, chorizo etc. shared jug of sangria and had glass cava.

Yesterday I walked 7km and climbed 5 flights of stairs (I phone health app thing).

My downfall and probably can be cut is lunches at work. I tend to have more things with eg a sandwich. Also there's a "treat area" in our office which always seems full of chocolate biscuits which I try to walk past but some days it's treat time.

BlueSofaPinkLamp · 06/05/2017 13:19

Hey, I'd love to join you all if that's okay?

I need to lose 3-4lb in two weeks prior to going on holiday as my trousers are still feeling snug from our last holiday in April and if I don't get my weight down before I go away again I'm going to end up with nothing that fits me by the time I get back Blush.

I am usually fine during the week but then I have one or two days where I either go out or we have people over and I'm like a woman possessed and undo all the hard work. I also run 3x a week, 6-7 miles a time, and walk everywhere so if I didn't eat so much at the weekend my weight would come down quickly!

I've meal planned a bit more carefully this week, planning breakfast and lunch as well as dinner, and trying not to be so extreme during the week so that hopefully come the weekend I'll be able to remain a little more in control!

This morning I had oatbran with some chopped banana and peanut butter, lunch was a veg heavy chilli with whole grain rice and peas, followed by some fruit and a dollop of Greek yoghurt. Dinner will either be a sandwich/toast or something light and I'll be going for a 5 mile run this afternoon.

theredjellybean · 06/05/2017 13:27

fitbit...i agree completely , wt loss through exercise , even running loads is pretty nigh on impossible. My exdh runs marathons and he said that he found the weight loss only started when he was not drinking alcohol and running 10-15 miles 5 times a week...sigh....i cannot imagine getting to that point, love the running for other reasons so wouldnt swap it but yes absolutely need to drop the calories too ...the running just speeds up the wt loss from lower calories.
bugger..i want to run so i can eat more !

theredjellybean · 06/05/2017 13:28

i am also another non breakfast eater, used to skip lunch too, often but now find i am starving by 11 am and then start snacking out of fridge..the perils of working from home. also the perils of the menopause..i am 52 btw

Bumblebzz · 06/05/2017 19:54

I'm having a good first day, planning my meals, enjoying them and not snacking has been the theme.

One success, which I've been meaning to try for ages (as I adore ice cream) was blending frozen chopped bananas with a dollop of natural yoghurt and a tablespoon of peanut butter. It genuinely tasted as nice as any ice cream and totally sorted my usual sweet tooth after dinner.
Also had a few herbal teas between meals.

Giddyaunt18 · 06/05/2017 20:44

I love that Bumblebzz or even blended frozen bananas without the rest is great if eaten immediately! Had a lovely steak tonight cooked by DH but only with veg(he had fries) a couple of white wines followed. Trying hard to stay out of the kitchen!!!

wrinkleseverywhere · 06/05/2017 22:10

painting - that's amazing!

I'm glad to see some others haven't lost as I haven't either this week. Last weekend's treats mean that, despite having only eaten around 1000 cals for the past few days, I have stayed the same and possible even gained as the scales flickered between 10st 7 & 10st8.

Orangecake123 · 07/05/2017 06:56

I've been feeling good- I completed my 45 min run. Going back to the gym and aiming for an hour of cycling and stair climbing. I declined to go to an american burger bar with my friend yesterday- as the offer was last minute- and I'd already eaten over half my allocated calories for the day.

@Bumblebzz- It might sound simplistic, but do you have a lot going on in your life at the moment with regards to stress? I found buying mini sized chocolate bars helped at first, and I later also switched to dark chocolate instead of milk- anything with around 72% and higher I was okay with just one 10g square because it has a much stronger taste. Depending on the type of injury it was- you could try doing a lot of low impact things like swimming or work on an elliptical.

@Giddyaunt- wooooo congrats o the weight loss! ;)

@PaintingOwls- well done on the reduced time! What is it now? ;)

@Superflyhigh- hello ;). Well done on the 7km walk! Maybe with the treats at work you could tell yourself you are allowed to have a set amount but only on X and Y days.

@Bluesofapinklamp- Hello ;). It's definaelty possible to lose that amount in two weeks. Your food plan looks good- I forgot i had peanut butter!

@wrinkleseverywhere- keep going. it will move in no time soon!

GolyHuacamole · 07/05/2017 08:03

Can I join the party? I know I'm late but I need some motivation!

5'9" and I need to lose about 5kg, ideally I'd like to be under 70kg so my aim is 69kg. I weighed myself on Friday and I was 74.9kg I was nearly 76, mixture of not drinking and I'm now running (slowly & badly) but I am getting faster and really enjoying it. I do need to step away from the biscuits though!

butlerchauffer · 07/05/2017 09:27

I've joined MFP this am - 1200 calories doesn't get you very much roast dinner!!! Hey ho. I'm taking everyone's best bits of advice, going for low carb ( &whole grain if I do) plus full fat protein and loads of veg / salad. I love my soup maker and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone trying to lose weight or not. It's so easy, chop ( or buy prepped) veg, chuck it in and leave it and 20 mins later it's done. You can use frozen chopped veg / herbs too, it's brilliant and that for lunch will allow me a g n t tonight!

butlerchauffer · 07/05/2017 09:30

Joinourclub and Giddyaunt - congratulations on loss this week, I can't wait to see a 9 on the scales instead of a 10 - it's really keeping me going!

wrinkleseverywhere · 07/05/2017 10:04

I woke up this morning feeling slim so leapt on the scales anticipating a loss and have gained a lb!!! In rebellion, I have just had a slice of toast, a glass of apple juice and a milky coffee and savoured every mouthful/sip but am kicking myself as it is less than a week until a minor event for which I need to be at least 3lbs lighter & 3 weeks until I need to be 5lbs lighter...which all sounds so achievable until I remember than after two weeks of being on this thread I have only lost 1lb and in the period from NY to Easter I only lost 2lbs.

wrinkleseverywhere · 07/05/2017 10:07

By the way, sorry for venting so much on here but I'm trying not to become a diet bore in real life.
