Shiny new thread!SmileSmileSmile
Support, advice and general chat for those who are following the NoS diet. We're all about good habits and moderation in our eating!

I have noticed a little voice in my head when something stressful happens, urging me to eat and saying 'you've earned it' - how ridiculous! So now I try to take out my stress on the little voice by ignoring it!

Makes me realise how many unconscious excuses I've had for eating in the past.

It's hard though, when society celebrates with cake and consoles with chocolate.

twofloorsup · 13/06/2017 14:23

Hi all how are you doing ?
16:8 (14:10) was a disaster for me. I didn't have my smoothie today as I had the worst headache imaginable.
So I fasted for 17 hours and now feel like death warmed up Hmm
I had a headache yesterday too so I think no breakfast before work just isn't something I can cope with.

AristonAndOn · 13/06/2017 16:01

Hi Two, I think you definitely need to listen to your body. Perhaps the fasting and no snacks are too much in one go?

PosiePootlePerkins · 13/06/2017 16:12

Ariston I agree, this does feel like a safe place where we can all be honest about our successes and struggles without being judged.
Beela oh gosh yes the social eating. Even when you politely say no some people still try and press food on you! My braces have provided the perfect excuse but I shouldn't really need one, no thank you should be sufficient!
Two sorry the fasting doesn't work. The 5:2 is one of my many failed diets, I lasted one day of fasting! I agree with Ariston that maybe your body is saying noSmile
All OK here, having some stress with poorly mother in law, she's been admitted to hospital. Luckily DH is in the country so able to do the visiting. Also my naughty cat had to go to the vets as he got himself an abscess by fighting! Trying to stick to routine and keep to NoS as much as possible.

AristonAndOn · 13/06/2017 17:29

Hope your Mother in Law and cat get better 💐 In looking after poorly DD and mother.

PosiePootlePerkins · 13/06/2017 17:40

Thank you and Flowersfor you too, it must be tough.

OP posts:
twofloorsup · 13/06/2017 18:27

I think you're both right it's just not an option for me.
Although nothing to stop me having the smoothie on days I'm too busy for breakfast- but at breakfast time not 3 hours later !
I wish I was one of these people who literally just eat to fuel their body but I enjoy the whole planning cooking eating thing far too much !
Flowers for the poorly ones but make sure you are taking care of yourselves too.

beela · 13/06/2017 19:28

I hope all the poorly ones get well soon.

two I like the planning cooking eating thing too. I have found it really strange though because I used to turn straight to the baking / desserts section of a cook book or recipe magazine. I am really enjoying discovering all the savory recipes now that desserts are off my menu.

bowbear · 13/06/2017 19:43

You've hit the nail on the head Posie, we're all still here and doing our best. I love reading about everyone's challenges and how they are tackling them. I'll take all the advice I can to stay on track and make this a lifestyle change.
I'm sorry to hear your experiment didn't go to plan Two, you never know til you try tho :)
No standing is haunting me Ariston, I'm horified at how many little 'tastes' I have whilst cooking dinner. I've yet to move past noticing them and address actually not doing it!!
I wish I could be more of a planner and opt for a little less winging it! My challenge is a house full of fussy eaters and me pandering to them! DD is veggie, I'm veggie plus fish, DH is a complete carnivore and DS, well depends which way the wind is blowing as to what he will eat!! Drives me mad! I usually have a meals planned for one half of the family and then wing it with the other half.
Your comment really rings true Beela, food underpins everything we do, and it's so hard not to 'celebrate' success with food. I need my brain rewiring :)

twofloorsup · 13/06/2017 20:24

Beela I'm thoroughly enjoying savoury tastes too which is so weird for me.
Bow I'm pescatarian too and due to my long periods between eating I tend to cook separately for my kids. Otherwise I get anxious about having to eat before I'm ready or eating something I don't really fancy , not feeling satisfied and triggering a binge.

PosiePootlePerkins · 13/06/2017 22:01

Actually I think we're all gaining really good insights into our eating habits and triggers. I love this thread, it really has become my support group! SmileSmileSmile

OP posts:
twofloorsup · 13/06/2017 23:02

It's fab isn't it Smile
Best thing is I don't bore friends and family with my foody weirdness anymore, you lot get it all Grin

beela · 14/06/2017 15:52

Urgh.

The only problem with only 3 opportunities to eat is that it is terrible when one opportunity is wasted! I just had a deeply disappointing chicken baguette for my lunch and now I can't eat again until tea time. I had a chocolate digestive in protest Blush

(But I agree - this is a great thread and you lot are all fab Grin)

PosiePootlePerkins · 14/06/2017 19:53

Oh no beela nothing worse than a disappointing meal! Hope dinner was betterSmile

OP posts:
beela · 14/06/2017 19:58

Much better! Spanish omelette and lots of salad. Now off for a swim Smile

twofloorsup · 14/06/2017 20:12

Disappointment is one of my biggest problems !
No headache today as I had a proper breakfast at the right time.
Made the mistake of having a smoothie for lunch so ended up ravenous and eating a cheese scone , a crumpet and a mahoosive bowl of cereal with fruit and nuts for my dinner.
I really fancied jacket potato but just couldn't wait any longer !

Mummybear1984 · 14/06/2017 21:33

Hi everyone,
I have been doing lots of reading about the no s diet and today has been my first day. I'm 5ft 2 and weigh 206 3/4 lbs!!!

Today I've had
b- 40g weetabix minis with strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.
L- 2 x whole meal protein sandwich thins with Chinese chicken. Some sliced mixed peppers and tomatoes.
D- 3 x small venison sausages, homemade wedges, beans, egg, carrots and cabbage.

I've also drank lots of water.

Does this sound right?

I'm going to bed soon as I'm hungry! Determined not to give in!

twofloorsup · 14/06/2017 21:44

Hi mummybear that sounds like a great first day well done and welcome Smile

Mummybear1984 · 14/06/2017 21:58

Thank you two 😁

GoatsInATree · 15/06/2017 18:09

Hello everyone, I've name changed for this thread, and I'd like to join you if you think No S may help me.

I've skimmed this thread and I think I remember a previous one too. I will try to read this one properly when I get time.
I've been to the No S website and I understand the rules. I think Wink

I've had issued with food since I was 17. Sometimes I feel as if I can't stop eating. I'm having one of those days today.
I'm obese, middle aged and scared of what I'm doing to my health.
I know I need to lose weight - 3st minimum, realistically more like 5st - but I can't face another conventional diet.

I like what I've read about No S. It seems sane. I realise I probably won't lose weight quickly but the benefit of a sane way of eating makes up for that.
My biggest concern is being very hungry between meals. I'm used to eating pretty much all day long. If I get too hungry I'll use it as an excuse and go off on a binge.

If any of this resonates with any of you, do you think No S will help me? If so how do I deal with feeling hungry between meals? I can cope with some hunger - I know that's normal - but I'm worried that I may become ravenous.

Sorry for epic first post!

twofloorsup · 15/06/2017 18:22

Hi Goats and welcome.
I have been a binge eater since I was 15 (42 now).
This New Year I decided to give No S a try. To start with it was very difficult waiting to eat , but very quickly I got used to it and began to enjoy planning tasty meals to look forward to.
I now can go much longer between meals and don't panic if I have to skip one for any reason. I've also gone off sweet food and now have a much more savoury palate.
I've not lost loads of weight (don't weigh regularly) but I feel so much better and my emotional ties to food are long gone. Brilliant support to be had here , you'll have to excuse my wittering at times though Grin

PosiePootlePerkins · 15/06/2017 21:15

Hi Goats and welcome. Yes, all of that resonates with me! Yoyo dieter for all of my adult life, and have had many days where I've pretty much eaten non stop until I feel overfull and uncomfortable. I have been following NoS for 8 and a half months and honestly, its been life changing. I am calm around food, I can eat what my family eats, I don't have to count or weigh anything, I feel so much better about myself. I'm still overweight, I've lost 23lbs so far, and its been very slow. But the benefits to my mental wellbeing have been huge.
Enough about me, my best advice for beginners is to stick to the rules as closely as possible and get the habits ingrained. Don't worry too much about weight loss in the early days. If you fail, our mantra is 'mark it and move on'.
We're a friendly bunch so any questions just ask and we'll do our best to support you.
Mummybear looks like you're off to a good start, hope today has gone well.
Two have I only just discovered we're both 42? Not sure if we've mentioned it before - a fine age like a mature wine haha!GrinGrinGrin

PosiePootlePerkins · 15/06/2017 21:17

Oh Goats regarding the hunger, yes it is hard in the beginning, make sure you fill your plate and don't worry about having too much, drink lots of drinks, hot drinks are fine with a spoonful of sugar if you need to. A glass of milk also fine. You will get used to it, it just takes a little time.

OP posts:
twofloorsup · 15/06/2017 21:25

Posie I'm not sure if it's come up before Smile
It's taken me til 40 to feel comfortable in my own skin Shock
Now I know I'm a bit weird I'm happy with that Grin

twofloorsup · 15/06/2017 21:26

Goats I'm nearly 5 months in and still piling my plates sky high.
The fear of hunger is much worse than the actual feeling !
