Wow smd, your diet sounds amazing. Easy to manage within the constraints of having a family and crammed full of good, natural stuff, salad, fruit and veg. Don't worry too much about the calorific items such as avocado, they are packed full of goodness and keep you full for hours, all good fats etc.

You also sound really committed to the changes you want to make. I think that really 'owning' the goal is actually the key, it's not that difficult if you are fully on board. Go you!

Needastrongone · 25/02/2017 19:00

Not You know when you say about your gut being in bits? Does that inspire you to stick to stuff that doesn't cause such a reaction? I was thinking of when me and DH went out for our anniversary, and I ate tons of rich food and suffered so much for it. Won't do that again, no starter and a lighter curry next time.

My DH is away a lot. Always has been. I am a very sociable person but like my own company too so I understand.

My thai red curry tastes lovely (not ready yet) but isn't very red, despite following the recipe, so I have added okra for colour.

smd5018 · 25/02/2017 19:28

Yup, I'm very committed! I've been meaning to lose weight and get fit for a long time but always put it off. I'll start next week/in the new year/after my birthday type of thing. But somehow I've just clicked into the headspace of just doing it now. It's been a pleasant surprise to find I can do it without feeling deprived, luckily I really like fruit, veg and salads. (I also really like white bread and butter, and cake and chocolate bars and cornflakes with full fat milk with loads of sugar on and cheese on toast before bed) I haven't really cut anything specific out but I'm feeling loads better, I used to suffer from bloating after meals and get lots of wind but that's pretty much gone now so I'm really pleased about that and feeling pretty positive on the whole. (wait for tantrums when I next weigh myself and have put 2lb on.....)

Needastrongone · 25/02/2017 19:38

You know what? That was me! For about a year I just wore baggier stuff, blamed the clothes, mirrors, age etc. Still told myself I could eat what I liked. But... also checked how I was sitting to make sure my belly wasn't showing, felt self conscious etc. Hated not being fit but still sat on my arse every night doing nothing. I'm not saying I had tons to lose, but I totally get the comment about it 'just clicking' and just doing it. No more excuses, lapses etc.

And yes, I love cake and chocolate and sugar etc, but not as much as I love being fit and feeling healthy and liking myself!!!

Needastrongone · 25/02/2017 22:54

I win the prize for eating the most today! GrinGrinGrinCakeCakeCake

Needastrongone · 26/02/2017 07:36

Up having a coffee, race nerves!

Lolimax · 26/02/2017 10:22

Good luck Need. Not nice here today hope it's better where you are.

MumBod · 26/02/2017 14:29

Well, I'm back from Orlando...

...7lbs heavier Shock

JontyDoggle37 · 26/02/2017 15:53

Need hope the race went really well
mumbod its bloat, give it 3 days at least 4-5lbs of that will go

Needastrongone · 26/02/2017 16:00

I think 7lb for Orlando ain't that bad Mumbod. Grin It will disappear soon enough. I agree with Jonty, some may be bloat from travel and change etc.

Thanks, the race went well. Not as fast as I used to run a 10 miler in, but a line in the sand at 1 hour 16 mins. Placed 6th in my category. Very windy indeed, which was pretty tiring in itself. Fastest woman from all three local clubs, which is pleasing at age 45!!

Eaten like a horse since I got back, it's call refuelling or something...but I'm quite pogged..

B- Porridge with cocoa.
Race - energy gel x 2, banana and small piece of flapjack post race.
L - tuna wrap, massive bowl of fruit and yogurt. Banana loaf.
D - homemade lasagne with salad.

MumBod · 26/02/2017 16:05

Bloat aka pancakes, bacon, maple syrup, cornbread, fried chicken, sticky cinnamon buns...

totally worth it

Needastrongone · 26/02/2017 16:08

The bacon and maple syrup is often on the same plate in Orlando isn't it?!!

MumBod · 26/02/2017 16:15

Bacon, eggs, sausage, pancakes, maple syrup - all on the same plate.

And now all on the same hips Blush

Needastrongone · 26/02/2017 16:33

GrinGrinGrin

Needastrongone · 26/02/2017 19:04

Lasagne in oven, wine in hand (only one, I will fall asleep).

I'm feeling much better about my run, I was 55th out of 453 female competitors. I'm feeling motivated to push on now.

But knackered to be fair.... Grin

Needastrongone · 27/02/2017 06:37

Weight constant this morning so fuelling the training well at the minute. Smile

Not2bObvious · 27/02/2017 06:44

Welcome back mum, sounds like you had a great time. No doubt some of the gain is bloat, a few days of plenty of water and nice simple eating will see half of that 7lb gone, another week will see off the rest of it. Weight gained that quickly can be got shot of fairly quickly if taken in hand.
I faced the scales myself this morning and it was a grim sight. As the great man says (Dr Phil) you can't change won't you don't acknowledge - well Phil I acknowledge, now to change. Lent starts Wednesday so I'm on my usual no chocolate or crisps for 6 weeks. That'll certainly help. Sorry for lack of shout outs, in kick up own arse mode & planning the next few days food/exercise. Going to be v busy in work too which will help greatly. Have a good Monday all

OP posts:
Needastrongone · 27/02/2017 06:56

Hope you have a great week not. I like the idea of not being able to change what you can't acknowledge. That's how I felt 6 months ago, well summed up.

Bathsheba3 · 27/02/2017 07:32

Fresh start today here as well. I'll be joining you on 40-days no chocolate & crisps not, and will add cake and other sugar too. Almost didn't recognise myself this morning with my puffy-eyes. Tis the sugar (alcohol) I'm sure. I need to cut down out the wine again. I managed September, wonder if I could do March too?

Other than the gain - which could have been a whole lot worse mum - did you have a nice time?

JontyDoggle37 · 27/02/2017 08:01

Further update later, but for now, a motto for today (in addition to Not's one!): Failure to plan means failure to lose weight
Most of last week's detail came down to not having a meal plan in place, and not having thought about the structure of the week enough, which had some new elements time-wise, so then everything went out the window. Meal plan being done this morning, especially as the bloomin' scales showed a 3.75lb increase this morning (focaccia and chocolate cake last night) 🙄

JontyDoggle37 · 27/02/2017 08:02

Derail not detail!

Not2bObvious · 27/02/2017 08:04

Be nice to have company bath, don't try give up everything as you might just buckle. Not having the chocolate will adjust the taste buds anyway, you probably won't find yourself craving the sugar as much. I used to do alcohol as well but f'it - life's too short. Egg and hm brown bread for breakfast, hm veg soup for lunch, shepards pie & a little mash for dinner. Either gym or Zumba this evening to ease back into it.

bath I started in April last year on 12st4, having already lost half a stone since the start of 2016. My goal was 11st3, as that would’ve fitted me nicely back into my size 14s – which is where my body found its natural balance following life-changing weight loss of 4-5st. I kept going post goal to get to healthy bmi initially, and then a bit beyond. I have been maintaining for 3m now on 9st8-10lb.

jonty good luck with running your workshop this week. And with your new meal plan in place, I’m sure you will be back on the other stuff! Smile

can’t well done on 3 weeks of losses. I had mfp set on half a pound a week the whole time I was losing, which gave me around 1600. I wouldn’t have been able to do it on less.

smd welcome

not I’m sorry the dress didn’t work out, but I’m sure that you will get into it for a different occasion soon enough.

mum I’m sure the holiday was worth it. The 7lb probably won’t all be real gain either - a few days of eating healthily will probably make a dent, and I’m sure that the rest will shift quick enough once you are back on it.

need well done on the race, I think that’s an amazing time too! You deserve all the refuelling cals you can get your hands on! Cake

loli I’m glad you’re feeling a little better. I’m sure that you’ll find the balance that works for you very soon! Flowers. I’m working on it too.

I’m planning pancakes tomorrow (no plans to lent happy just to select the best bits from the world religions ). I reckon if I make them small and choose healthier fillings I’ll plan for 2 savoury and 2 sweet (maybe yoghurt/berries, else a small sprinkling of sugar) greedy . I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for how to make a traditional pancake recipe that little bit healthier?

Needastrongone · 27/02/2017 15:52

Wow Sesame, I didn't know that you had lost that much weight. Kudos to you. That's brilliant. No wonder I see your name pop up on the Hush shopping thread, you absolutely deserve a whole set of new clothes.

I have no plans for lent either. I am not religious and don't feel I need to give anything up! But good luck to you Bath and Not, I will be encouraging you all the way.

Don't worry Jonty, you are pretty focused overall, and any gains will soon be lost.

My motto for today was If your'e tired of starting over, stop giving up but that's not appropriate now with Lent ha ha GrinGrinGrin

Menu.
B - Bircher muesli and mango.
L - chicken breast bagel with salad, apple, small banana.
D - Veggie and lentil Bolognese (meat free Monday!)

Exercise - A 6 mile lovely slow run to stretch the legs. Back into base training as I've done tons of speed work recently.

DawheadAwgusEeentock · 27/02/2017 18:06

Need your mottos are great - I really like the binge one and I'm going to try it next time. Well done on the race yesterday! And good stuff that the training fuel is working. I can probably beat your cal total on Saturday though Wink.

Not great to have a fresh start today. Last week had a lot of distractions, so you still did well all things considered. I bet you'll be amazed at the difference in a few days time.

Cant well done on the loss Star 3 weeks of losses is brilliant. How was the day in London?

Jonty that increase has to be bloat - I've probably used this phrase before but you'd be a medical miracle (in the wrong way) if you gained that much in 2 days! I like the idea of Bath's body armour for tackling horrible work - the next month will pass and you will come out the other side stronger. How are all your chest issues?

Loli oh gosh I'm so relieved you don't need that procedure - it does sound draining - physically and mentally. It's so brilliant that your weight loss has improved the side effects over the last year.

Sesame I can't help with healty recipes as usual, but yay for maintenance working!

Bath great to have a fresh start today as well, but would echo Not don't tackle everything - 1 or 2 things would be great. Also Flowers for Irish mammies and their overwhelming desire to feed us Wink.

smd welcome Flowers and wow you are doing really well! I'm slightly jealous that you enjoy all the health foods Wink. Are you setting specific loss goals or just going to see how it goes?

MumBod you weren't at an iHop by any chance were you Wink. Glad you had a lovely time - I agree with PPs 7lb isn't bad at all!

Hope I've caught everyone. Going ok-ish since Friday, weekly average is at 1395 including today. Came in at 1500 on Saturday and 1645 on Sunday which isn't bad for a weekend by my standards. I've missed 2 dog walks though, so I'm feeling a bit tired and sluggish. Also had an early meeting this morning that really threw me off balance today. Normally I'd be up anyway and walking the dog at that time, but it really hit me having to have my brain active so early Blush. Old. Age. Sad
