Age:45
Starting weight: 19st 10lbs on 01/01/17
Goal: 9st 10lbs
Plan: low carb, high fat

Well, it's the biggest I've ever been. Feel horrid, but determined to make this the last year of being a fat person. I''m going to diet the shit out of this mess I'm in! I've see threads to lose 100lbs, but not 140. If anyone else is in the same scary boat and fancies friendly, non-judgmental journey sharing, please say hello and share away.

Making multiple loss goals of 10% of whatever your body weight is at the time might make the weight loss a bit less daunting. Will also give you the opportunity to gradually cut calories and review calorie infake with your new weight goal, which will make loss easier too. At 19 st you will be able to lose weight on a less restricted diet than at 13 stones.

harderandharder2breathe · 08/01/2017 14:54

10stone congratulations!

littlemissfuckingsunshine · 08/01/2017 16:11

That's amazing 10.

Looking forward to getting started tomorrow but worrying a little bit about lunches. Got breakfasts and dinners sorted.

PositiveAttitude · 08/01/2017 16:31

Well done for all you starting out here. I am so encouraged to come here and read your stories and how you are doing. Thank you for starting this thread, 10stone and well done on your fantastic start!

I so like to read a weight loss thread that is not filled with "Oh I am so gross I weigh 10stone!!" That just really has always made me feel so crap because the people that think like that must look at me and think I am such a massive lump of lard! So nice to be with people who are in the same boat as me. I don't think I will ever be slim, but just a healthy size 14 would make me very happy.

have a good weekend everyone and if you slip off the wagon just climb straight back on in the morning and don't dwell on any slip-ups. We are in this for the long journey, so a little slip up wont matter, just don't let it get you down. Draw a line.

OrlandaFuriosa · 08/01/2017 17:53

May I join? Not quite ten but heading that way..and just put on 5 1/2 lbs over new year. Feel gutted ( wish I were).

harderandharder2breathe · 08/01/2017 18:42

I'm only on my first week and have had three bad food days including today. The first two binged on crisps and chocolate, so I decided fine I won't have any in the house. Then today I had a shit day personally so just scarfed down a ton of chocolate (chocolate reindeer rom Christmas). I'm fully aware that this just makes me feel even shitter than I did already.

I shouldn't be this bad at the beginning! The beginning should be all "woo yay change" and has been when I've tried before.

My meals have all been perfect slimming world, then I binge and ruin all that good work. I know I know it's not ruined. Tomorrow is a new day and all that bollocks.

AndersArms · 08/01/2017 19:19

Someone once gave me a great analogy.

If you get a flat tyre, you wouldn't then slash the other three for good measure. You fix the tyre and put it behind you.

I'm trying to remember this when I slip up - not use it as an excuse to go mental for the next 3 meals plus binging on junk late at night, but move on and make a good choice at the next meal.

harderandharder2breathe · 08/01/2017 19:54

That is a good analogy thank you Anders

Slimmingsnake · 08/01/2017 22:01

Hi all....tomorrow will be difficult for me..I'm stuck in waiting for a broken freezer to be collected..my eating goes to pot at home..I'm much more controlled out of the house....hope there will be someone around I can chat to ...be ready to say....snake step away from the vegan chesse and white crusty loaf🥖I'm Christmas snake..I name changed as it's not Christmas now sob sob

wtffgs · 08/01/2017 22:23

I use food as an emotional crutch - it makes me happy. I am a single mum work full time with a chronic illness and depression/anxiety to boot... otherwise known as a "hot mess" I just dislike myself so much and I turn to food to block those feelings.... if I don't have food, what do I do??

Are you me? Brew To all those on a weight loss journey. I need to lose weight but need the ADs to kick in first.

marywinchester · 08/01/2017 22:47

hi everyone and well done to all of you. i'm sort of at the other end having lost 16 stone with about 2 more (12lbs) to go. i just wanted to say that i haven't got loads of loose skin and i was a size 32 to start with so you might not have any either. bloody emotional eating is the biggest bitch i've had to deal with, still working on that one.

Breagha85 · 08/01/2017 22:49

Age: 31
Weight: 20st 9lb on 7/1/17
Target: 10st 7lb
Plan: Weight Watchers

I lost four stone for my wedding using the Cambridge diet but put on five after I stopped!

My (substantially thinner) friend lost two stone prior to hers on WeightWatchers and roped me in to going.

I wasn't keen at first as had failed to follow it in my late teens but am blown away with how easy it is ten years on - and in my case it's down to technology. The app is a major help in helping make the right choices.

So now I'm feeling really positive, despite having ten stone to lose.

YorkieDorkie · 08/01/2017 22:51

Your target weight is the same as mine OP.

Age: 28
Starting weight: 14st 10lbs on 4.1.17
Goal: 9st 10lbs
Plan: Slimming World

70lbs to go - or half a person, as you say 🙈.

10stonestolose · 08/01/2017 23:42

Waves and welcomes to Daily, Positive, Orlanda, Wtffgs, Mary, Breagha and Yorkie

Aww thanks everyone for your wonderful messages of encouragement about my weigh in. It helps a lot, it really does!

Wobbly....like the sound of your chicken tagine. I'm so with you on the hating photo taken thing. And don't you just love it when 'friends' tag you in a photo that's a brilliant one of them, whilst you like a sweaty heffalump. Grr....projecting much?!! Haha!! Just you keep visualising yourself in that designer dress, it's really help you in weaker moments.

Glasses...fingers crossed rosemary conley works for you. I'm now picturing you in dayglo workout gear circa 1983, doing a mad lizzie-esque workout.

Sikkinis....sounds like a plan! Pleased you're feeling better and upping the water is always a good idea. I don't think I've drank enough today, so must make more effort to drink more.

Daily...thanks for the tip about the 10% thing. I love obsessing over the numbers, it spurs me on and gives me something to focus on.

Sunshine...how about making a nice soup for your lunches? Filling and healthy if you can bear to ditch the bread.

Positive...oh yes, the skinny people who talk about being huge whilst you're stood next to them and double their size. Very hard not to poke them in the eye, isn't it?!Great advice on getting over slip ups quickly, that's still something I need to learn.

Orlanda.....great to have you on board. Hopefully we can help you get your healthy eating mojo back after the festivities.

Harder....sorry you've had a rubbish time of it. Sounds like you need to try something to break the rut. Can you plan to do something else at your usual trickiest time? It's all a head thing isn't it, so something just needs retuning, though I know that's easier said than done!!

Arms...great analogy. I imagine this thread is full of former tyre slashers (me included!) I say former, because we're not going to think like that anymore are we? Oh no we're not! Grin

Snake...love the name change! I will try to keep an eye on the thread tom in case we need to talk you down from the cheese and bread. Write yourself a note and stick it on the fridge. "Thou shalt not jeopardise my diet by eating naughty shit".

Wtffgs....thanks for the coffee. Be kind to yourself and we'll be here when you're ready for action (or indeed anytime you want to say hello).

Mary...just wow! What a star you are losing all that weight. Thank you for sharing and for giving us all hope on the loose skin issue too.

Breagha....a lot of it is finding the right plan for you, so good job you found WW. And your positive thinking is very welcome.

Yorkie....just imagine how amazing we'll look at 9st 10lbs! I'll soon have that extra half a person off. You can get there first and let me know just how fab it feels and that'll spur me on to lose the last half a person. Perfect!

I'm so excited that our little thread is so full of lovely people, all at different places in our battles, but all understanding where each other are coming from. Good luck for the new week ahead everyone. Great time for a fresh start for anyone struggling to get their head in the game. Night night and thanks again for all your support.

I'm home alone,no people to collect the freezer yet....anyone on here to chat to???

Slimmingsnake · 09/01/2017 11:36

I'm drinking endless cups of tea with sugar in.....has anyone advice on how I stop that? I'm vegan and don't really enjoy my meals...I prefer crisps and sugary tea...so my New Years resolution was to neither eat or buy junk food....so no crisps....I should of included sugar in that ....I try to do one resolution each yr and make sure I stick to it...last years was to go vegan...this yrs to cut out the junk....even vegan ,there is still plenty of junk.there is so much vegan chocolate crisps and sweets out there...but not in here luckily or I would be munching by now

Slimmingsnake · 09/01/2017 11:41

I will just chat to myself then...why couldn't it of been smoking or drink why did I have to have a problem with food...a smoker can just cut it out.so can an alcoholic..but a food addict can't .you have to learn to eat in moderation when the reality is you would be better off ,easier just cutting it out...but obviously we can't...

lotsawobblybits · 09/01/2017 11:54

Slimmingsnake I agree, it is almost like an addiction - but you have to have it to live unlike Alcohol and Fags.

When people say loosing weight is easy just eat less and move more- they are forgetting the whole emotional/psychological thing which goes with this. It is used as reward & comfort, as control and punishment, but we need it to live.

And why oh why don't we get the same satisfaction from kale or lettuce as we do from the endorphins from eating chocolate or a buttery croissant?

Is there anything you can do to keep your mind of it- something active with your hands?

Slimmingsnake · 09/01/2017 11:58

You are so right wobblybits

Slimmingsnake · 09/01/2017 12:01

I should use this time to do some cleaning.but I'm cold...it's a fridge freezer.only 10 months old just before Xmas the fridge bit stopped working..didn't realise at first till everything was going off....all through Christmas with no fridge have I got to keep milk and stuff in the car....nightmare

10stonestolose · 09/01/2017 12:06

Hey snake and wobbly!

Could you bear sweetener instead of sugar snake? Totally agree with you both about having to face your addiction three times a day when it's food, but drugs, booze, cigarettes can be almost avoided completely. It's so much harder in that respect.

I'm feeling a little sorry for myself today as have giant swollen cold sore lips and feel really run down and tired. My body must be taking its time adjusting to no sugar.

Any freezer action yet snake?

lotsawobblybits · 09/01/2017 12:21

We were keeping stuff outside at Christmas as we had run out of fridge space- bonus when I pulled the recycling bin out and found an unopened bottle of Proscecco Grin. No fridge at all though ...what a nightmare!

Candy crush is a good time killer/procrastination device.

What about switching to fruit teas, they are lovely with no sugar & reduce a bit of caffeine?

Oh No 10stone there is loads of lurgy going round just now as well, this is hot bath and early bed weather! Hope you feeling better soon. Flowers

10stonestolose · 09/01/2017 12:37

Thanks wobbly...that's exactly what I'll be doing later. I'm turning into an early night regular these days! Still have some work to do, but should be finished by 4.30 and will do quick walk, then a nice soak and bed.

How are you doing today?
