Age:45
Starting weight: 19st 10lbs on 01/01/17
Goal: 9st 10lbs
Plan: low carb, high fat

Well, it's the biggest I've ever been. Feel horrid, but determined to make this the last year of being a fat person. I''m going to diet the shit out of this mess I'm in! I've see threads to lose 100lbs, but not 140. If anyone else is in the same scary boat and fancies friendly, non-judgmental journey sharing, please say hello and share away.

Thank Holy, yes it was a great boost, but I'm not kidding myself I'm actually a real size 16 yet. Lots of size 18s in my wardrobe are fitting me now though, so I think I'm almost in a proper 18.

You'll probably be in those jeans well before Christmas Holy if you keep at it!

We are officially shrinking Smile

Run/walk done this morning and in the last couple of days I've managed about 80% of it running. My aim in the next few weeks is to be able to run the whole way and then I can start increasing the distance slightly and looking at my times. I want to be able to run 5k in a reasonable time. I'm determined to crack it!

Thanks for the tip 10stones will be nipping in on the way home from work! I'm down to 2 pairs of jeans that don't look like I have stolen them from a clown! (first world problem I know!) impressed with your running- I have been looking at doing a Pilates class but not confident enough yet.

I've had a pair of Next trousers in a 20 for years, which I can do up now but are a bit tight so fingers crossed Grin. I was a size 24/26 in December.

It's a beautiful positive day, cherry blossom & daffs are out, sun is shining, have a good day you gorgeous people! Wink

Hi there, me back again..

Fell off big time and felt too ashamed and low to confess, but here we are again.

It's the emotional eating thing, late at night. I had: my period, am perimenopausal and so infrequent but huge build up, desperate for carbs..; a v distressing funeral of a lovely young man, 22, with a long drive, over 300 miles in a day; a filthy cold; a rabies scare for DS,
; and going to see an ill elderly relative, another 200 or so miles in a day. Oh yes, and had to do something with DH he's been dreading and putting off.

So I need coping techniques that are not ingesting calories... help, please, o wise ones..

And I didn't get enough exercise..too exhausted.

But I'm now back to swimming and have found I'm fitter, even if not lighter. Can now do more lengths in pool...now need to get speed up. And DSis says my face is changing.

Have been reading the posts about saggy skin. The trick seems to be to lose weight slowly and exercise to tone at the same time.

So well done everyone for continuing , you are an inspiration.

OhHolyFuck · 16/03/2017 09:44

Welcome back Orlando, sounds like you had a hell of a time and it's no wonder being 'good' slipped down your priorities for a while
But, the important thing is, you're back now. Draw a line and clamber back on the wagon with us.
And it's not all been lost, you sound like you're a whizz in the pool now! 🏊

10stonestolose · 16/03/2017 14:21

Wobbly...hope you found the teeny jeans in Sainsbo's? I have a feeling we're all going to become clothes shopping addicts when we've lost the weight!

Orlanda....hey, we missed you! It's so good to have you back in the gang, thank you for being brave and not forgetting about us. What a time you've had! No wonder things have slipped a bit. In terms of not slipping, I've found that eating low-carb makes most of my cravings disappear, so danger times (like the evening comfort eating after an awful day) don't really happen anymore. It's like the less sugar you have, the less you'll crave it when times get tough. So I have almost no sugar at all and therefore my cravings have almost gone. So thinking this might be a way of you getting out of the habit of craving the bad stuff until you feel a bit stronger? You've only lost a few weeks, which is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Most of the year is still left to go at it, 41 1/2 weeks left in fact, so you have plenty of time to be sizzling hot by Christmas and I'm sure you will be Flowers

I seem to have had lots of "you're looking well" compliments in the last couple of days. I'm assuming this is not a backhanded compliment and is just what people say when they think asking if you've lost weight is a bit personal? I'm taking it that way anyway and despite being crap at accepting compliments, I'm trying to do so with good grace and it does feel nice. I'm starting to feel less abnormally huge too and this feeling can only grow as I shrink.

I'm not on this journey with you but have been lurking silently collecting all the recipe/meal ideas and healthy eating ideas. Just wanted to say how well you are all doing! Flowers

ToEarlyForDecorations · 16/03/2017 15:18

Age 49
Weight 18st 11bs
Height 5'3"

I started outdoor circuit training, one session a week back in February. Honouring a promise I made to myself to address my weight this year.

I thought I was trying hard not to comfort eat or over eat. I do a hypnotherapy meditation for weight loss every day. It makes me feel more relaxed around food i.e. no urge to finish the packet or eat as a response to stress, boredom, disappointment etc. I also notice I start to lose interest in food the more full I get from eating when I'm having a balanced meal.

Weighed myself yesterday and my weight has not moved in ten days since I last weighed myself. Not even a pound. Or half a pound. No loss. No gain.

Come on scales (electronic ones in Boots that issue a discrete 'ticket' with my readout of my weight and BMI with a helpful suggestion of what my weight and BMI should be to be healthy. That was funny. Got anymore ?) Can't believe I'm only, 'maintaining' my weight. There's people who've lost weight that can't do that. So if I carry on as I am I'll stay the same weight. Gee thanks.

Lotsawobblybits · 16/03/2017 20:29

Welcome back Orlanda & you must never ever feel ashamed, you have done fantastic keeping up with the swimming. Someone at the start of this thread (apologies can't remember who) recommended The Beck Solution- that has loads of coping techniques. Make sure you give yourself credit for the things you have done & and think of responses for when you do start thinking off plan. Flowers

Welcome Toearly.

10stones yes I did- sat here typing in my slinky slinky jeans Grin. They are like those magic gloves for kids- just kept on stretching! If I'm wearing them then that's what size I am - vanity sizing can do one!!!

That's really kind Twenty.

OrlandaFuriosa · 16/03/2017 22:36

Thanks so much, everyone. Another not good day, but marginally healthier but too tired to go swimming.

But I can now swim 1/2 mile... whereas when I began I couldn't! V slow, looking a bit like Queen Victoria, fat, regal , unamused.. and I do make sure I alternate fast and slow in the treading water exercises,

And tomorrow is another day.

I just hover a little above the next stone marker.. down, up, down, up..

I really really want to lose 3 lb over the next 2 weeks but am going out to start least one lunch.

I'll look at the Beck solution.

When people say " you're looking well" , if you've been putting on weight, it means just that, but when you've been taking it off, it means you are looking trimmer and fitter. Or such is my experience.

I'm going to play Shakespeare quotations, or other quotations, or jokes, to cheer us up. Anyone join me? Quotation for tomorrow

Oh that this too too solid flesh would melt..

10stonestolose · 17/03/2017 07:53

Twenty welcome and thank you! It's nice to think that the thread is useful to others. Feel free to lurk away.

Toearly welcome along! I think the only thing that would help you realise where you might be adding unnoticed calories would be to log everything you eat on an app like MFP, but I realise that is an utterly tedious exercise and not for everyone, including me. Maybe just do it for a couple of weeks?

Wobbly I'm so pleased that you got the jeans. They are stretchy fabulousness aren't they?! I'm going to wear mine today Smile

Orlanda I think easing yourself back in gently is the way to go. I'm a bit like queen Victoria when o swim too, but I haven't even been brave enough to dig my cossie out.

I take your Shakespeare quote and raise you:

Shakespeare Henry IV Part 1 (Act 2, Scene 4)
“Thou art as fat as butter.” Grin^

Had to chuckle at this, as I've said this for years "I am as fat as butter" and had no idea it was from Shakespeare.^

ToEarlyForDecorations · 17/03/2017 09:10

ten stones to lose

Thanks for the welcome.

Thanks for the suggestion of MFP. I did start MFP last year but laboriously logging everything I eat got boring. It's a good calorie reckoner, however, I did a similar thing with a Rosemary Conley diet I did a few years ago. Which was useful.

It's useful because I can copy & paste a meal from a previous week into the current week. It's also good because adding a recipe, the calories can be calculated as I data entry the ingredients. I can also data entry the exercise done. But, tbh, it's all a bit of a heart sink to be honest. All that data entry on MFP just to reiterate what I already know. Also, not all the ingredients are listed in their database.

I do keep a food diary. Most times it's just an idea of the week's meals so I know what groceries I need to get and to make sure we just don't have the same meals every week ! It's an attempt at variety.

I make a record of the exercise done too. To be honest the only data I'm interested in is what the scales and/or tape measure are telling me.

So I will continue with my hand written food diary. It's a good deterrent when I'm telling myself, 'you'll have to write that down' / 'you know that'll get recorded' regarding something calorific that I want but don't need.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 17/03/2017 09:21

Nah, you're right. It's the large bottle of cider I had. I mean 500ml not 3 litres !

Also the family bag of crisps I ate. I got them because they were a novelty flavour - cheese on toast with Guiness flavour.

Plus the bag of crisps that are baked not fried. Plus my share of the family bag of my husband's kettle chips.

Plus the large serving of roast meat that I had because weighing my 4 ounce portion seems to have gone out of the window. I've gone back to weighing my potatoes i.e. 6oz which is about 150g. I peel them then weigh them prior to boiling or roasting etc.

Wine with dinner. Then the lovely but calorific cheesecake that my husband and I shared between us over the weekend.

I snack on cold meat when making my husband sandwiches. My baked potato that I have with cottage cheese is huge.

Although I'm a big fan of eat slowly, mindfully, enjoying every mouthful and don't stop until you are full. With that in mind, the portion size shouldn't matter. Finishing my portion should not be taken as a deadline.

PippaFawcett · 17/03/2017 09:24

Morning all

It was a weigh in day for me today and I have only lost 1lb, which I am disapppinted about as I'm now 17.02 according to my scales and I really wanted to duck below 17. I'm not great at eating a proper dinner but I have been so, so good at resisting the multiple opportunities each day I have to eat crap so rather disheartened. I am thinking about trying to start couch to 5k but summoning the energy is difficult. I will
admit I have been having two Freddos every evening in front of the television but I thought there were within my daily calorie intake. Pfft.

OhHolyFuck · 17/03/2017 10:13

Hello! Signing in, how's it going everyone?

Has to confess my syns sins, I had a takeaway last night - a chicken fajita wrap and a flapjack and rocky road, could have been worse but means I need to be really good if I still want a loss this week

I'm optimistic for this weekend, I'm at work most of it so 'eating crap' opportunities should be very limited and I'm going to have salmon and a salad for dinner so on track-ish

Koko guys!

c00k1e · 17/03/2017 10:18

Guys could I please join? Twice I have been asked when the baby is due :(
Age:40
Weight:17st 5
Goal:9st

PippaFawcett · 17/03/2017 10:56

Hello Cook1e, you have a similar starting weight to me and I am now hovering just over 17stones. What plan are you going to follow?

PippaFawcett · 17/03/2017 10:57

And ouch about the baby comments Blush

BowiesBlueEye · 17/03/2017 11:25

Hi! Can I join please? I am struggling with consistency and no one around me "gets it".

I started at 19.2 six weeks ago. I'm now 18.5. My goal weight is 11 stone.

Starting to do weights every morning but have a poorly DS at the moment so I haven't had much sleep. I've eaten nearly my whole days worth of calories this morning already Sad

Hoping that posting on here and ranting/confessing/cheering will help me mentally.

I have 2 weddings to attend this summer and in absolutely shitting myself about them as I hate how I look.

Lotsawobblybits · 17/03/2017 14:24

Orlanda Loving the Shakespeare theme as Lady Macbeth said 'Do not be like the cat who wanted a fish but was afraid to get his paws wet.' though she said a few other things which I maybe won't follow!
Haha 10stones I say that sometimes too, you will have to surely change your user name soon you must have less than 10 St now!

Welcome BowiesBlue always good to have a target such as a wedding to aim for.

Welcome c00k1e & Well done PippaFawcett a loss is still a loss to be celebrated!

Holy Sending positive vibes that you have a good weekend.

Out for Tea tonight - been super strict today & hoping I won't sabotage myself. Looking at the menu beforehand didn't help as it is Burger and Beer night - I love burgers more than Elvis did!

CrazyDuchess · 17/03/2017 18:28

Still here peeps and bloody shattered- what a week!

Last night my dinner was a bag of sweets Blush totally blew my calorie count but kept under today.

I don't think this will be a good week but I'll be happy with any loss! Can't believe I made into 4 weeks in - a minor achievement.

Really need to get cracking with the exercise I know I know I say this every week!

10stonestolose · 17/03/2017 21:53

Cookie of course you can join us, lovely to have you aboard! The baby thing makes me so cross, it's happened to me a couple of times and I just think they're utterly insensitive twats. Both times I was too upset to give them an earful, though I wish I had. I'm almost the same weight as you are now.

Bowie welcome along! The good thing is, we do get it. We know exactly what you're going through, so you're in the right place. Well done on your weight loss so far, that's a great start. I have a wedding to go to in May and I'm already agonising about what I might wear. One good thing is that we'll definitely look miles better than we would have done if we'd not dieted. Rant, cheer, confess away.

Toearly Spot on that finishing everything on your plate should not be a deadline. I think there are times when we all keep eating long after we know we should stop, just because there's still food on our plates.

Pippa Congrats on the pound off, just remember that every little pound is a pound closer to your goal. I'm kind of doing couch to 5k, but not following anyone's plan. I just run until I feel like it's too much and then walk for a bit. I'm now runnning about 20 out of the 30 mins. You could try one Freddo instead of two if it isn't too painful to give one up?

Holy Good job you have work to keep you out of mischief this weekend! I on the other hand had 3 G&Ts this afternoon in an impromptu St. Patrick's day celebration and I'm out tom night too.

Wobbly Have fun with the beer and burgers. Think we'll all have to change our usernames after this. Yours will be No Bloody Wobbly Bits Here!

Duchess well done on getting 4 weeks under your belt. Sweets are but a small blip if you KOKO.

PippaFawcett · 17/03/2017 22:21

Good advice, ten stones. No Freddos so far tonight because I, rather amazingly, have been for a swim! I feel so much better for getting away from the TV and the sugar temptation and I came home and had a banana when I came in instead of chocolate. Now I just need to go to bed so I don't undo it all by having a post 10pm binge!

10stonestolose · 17/03/2017 22:30

Very impressed with your motivation to go for a swim. And no Freddos. Well done you!!

OP posts:
OrlandaFuriosa · 17/03/2017 23:24

Marginally better today, but still not good, because:

" thou seeest I have more flesh than another man, and therefore more frailty".

Henry 4 Act 3

No, I never knew as fat as butter was the bard, Grin
and had forgotten that bit of Lady Macbeth.

Oh this is going to cheer me up,

10stonestolose · 18/03/2017 06:52

Brilliant quote Orlanda! Try not to worry about the odd slip, the fact that you're trying to sort it will make all the difference. It's when you stop trying that you need to worry.

I'm having some issues with TOTM... it's arrived 9 days early! Hope it's just a freak month, so not worrying yet, but realise it might affect my weight loss. And it's bloody annoying!

I need to have a frock trying on session later, going to a do tonight and have no idea what fits me. It could be messy!

Have a great weekend everyone, but beware of eating too much, or....
