Age:45
Starting weight: 19st 10lbs on 01/01/17
Goal: 9st 10lbs
Plan: low carb, high fat

Well, it's the biggest I've ever been. Feel horrid, but determined to make this the last year of being a fat person. I''m going to diet the shit out of this mess I'm in! I've see threads to lose 100lbs, but not 140. If anyone else is in the same scary boat and fancies friendly, non-judgmental journey sharing, please say hello and share away.

So happy today 17st 5lbs, lost 5lbs after putting on 3lbs at the start.

PinotAndPlaydough · 18/01/2017 14:09

Can I join? I started calorie counting before xmas and I've lost just over a stone. But this week I've put in 2lbs Sad last Saturday was the first anniversary of my grandmas death and I ate my way through the upset and then spent the rest of the week kidding myself about what I was eating.

This is so hard and I'm so upset with myself that I can't maintain the will power to keep this up constantly with out slipping up.

So this is me-
Start weight: 17st 8lbs
Target: 10st
Interim target:16st

Welcome to our lovely thread Pinot. Sorry to hear about the loss of your Grandma Flowers Don't beat yourself up about having an off week, your emotions will sometimes take over and that's ok as long as you return to your path after the detour. You've done brilliantly losing the stone and you're still 12lbs lighter than when you started, so plenty to build on. Our road to success in this thing is likely to be very squiggly and nothing like a straight line, but as long as we keep going, we'll get there. Sorry about the mixed metaphors!

Harder....well done on this week's loss! You've nearly earned the shiny half stone off sticker.

Sunshine...your perseverance has paid off, brilliant news! I bet if feels great.

I hopped on the scales this morning and I was exactly the same as I was on Sunday, when normally I'd have lost a bit by the halfway point. However, I do feel a bit slimmer under my boobs and around my waist and my tum seems flatter. Annoyingly I've been too lazy to get measured so far, so no idea if I've lost inches, but it feels like I have and my jeans are not as tight. I always forget that we'll feel a little bit better as we go along and not just when we've lost it all. Every pound off makes us look and feel incrementally better. My all or nothing mentality stands in my way, when sometimes I should just enjoy the journey. I don't know if anyone else feels like this?

sneaks in

Hello all, really enjoying reading about everyone's progress. As for me I've not updated in a few days as it's all gone out the window for me.

Had a really really intense week of work, basically had to eat whatever I could in the small about of time I had free, and it didn't end well. I couldn't even spare the time to go to Tesco so had two takeaways!!!

Think I've decided I'm going to have to roll out drastic measures. Have told DP that we can't keep any rubbish in the house until I'm in the habit and I've just bought a gym membership and made my sister promise to kidnap me three times a week.

Good luck and well done everyone else! :)

10stonestolose · 19/01/2017 06:46

Hey Sikkinis, you may have fallen off the wagon this week, but by goodness you've had a word with yourself and climbed well and truly back on. Well done you and good luck with the gym! We're all going to have/had 'those' weeks when a perfect storm hits and we cave, but one bad week doesn't ruin it, it just slows it down very slightly.

Hello ,
I would like to join you , I am starting the blood sugar diet today ( 8 weeks ) , this will finish just before a weekend away I have planned with my friend .

Age 45
Starting weight : 17.9 stone
Interim target: 14 stone
Target : 11 stone

Have bought some cauliflower rice , hope it tastes better than it smells Smile

OhHolyFuck · 19/01/2017 08:02

Hello everyone, just checking in
pinot sorry it's been a hard time Flowers

Mixed emotions today, my baby is still in hospital, did really well in the day and then just crashed overnight (cannula back in and back to back nebulisers) and it's my eldest birthday today, a whole six years old!

Plans for going out for dinner obviously not happening so saving calories that way but trying to make good choices in a hospital is impossible, everything is chips and sponge puddings...tbh I'm not eating a lot as I don't want to leave ds2 but I am drinking coffee by the bucket load...

frumpet · 19/01/2017 09:26

OhHoly hope your little boy feels better soon Flowers sending flowers as virtually no calories , even if you eat them Wink

10stonestolose · 19/01/2017 12:27

holy, keeping everything crossed for your little boy to make a speedy recovery. And happy birthday to your big one, who'll I'm sure get extra fuss and celebrations once little bro is all better Flowers

Welcome along frumpet. A girly weekend away sounds like the perfect goal to keep you motivated. I love cauli rice, but I'm low carb/high fat, so fry mine in butter and olive oil until golden and nutty and it tastes delicious. Not sure if that's allowed on your plan? If not, you can just microwave or dry fry it and add spices for extra flavour.

NarcsBegone · 19/01/2017 13:31

Holy I hope things improve soon.

I wrote a post yesterday or the day before but must not have actually posted.

I found a record from early 2024 and I'd gone from 15st to 14st, since then I've gone up to 16st 3 and now at my 15st 3. I get so annoyed with myself as my weight just yoyos.
I totally get that all or nothing mentality you mentioned 10. It's my biggest issue.

I'm really pleased with my food intake so far and I haven't had one slip up yet this week.

Is anyone else using fitness pal? Or just understand these things? I'm trying to keep my carbs and fat lower but I'm not eating enough calories. My calorie goal is 1200 but I'm often below that, sometimes 600 below and have to add empty calories on it to get it to complete the day. According to what's on FP I don't see why weight isn't dropping off. I'm not feeling very hungry although the urge for a pecan slice right now is massive!

Lotsawobblybits · 19/01/2017 14:02

Holy Happy Birthday to your to your eldest - I hope you get to have some special time. Sorry to hear your little one is still ill hoping today is a better day for you.

Sikkinis keep at it- we all have bad weeks but it sounds like you have found your motivation. My DP has a secret stash of goodies (in the top draw of his study desk) that I don't know about- somehow I can resist this, but put it in the kitchen cupboard and i'm like a one woman locust swarm!

10stonestolose I can empathise with that. The feeling of almost disappointment when the results aren't instant. The Marathon rather than100m sprint- channel Mo Farrah rather than Usain Bolt slow and steady keep plugging!

The Vodka Prawns was a bit like a hot seafood bloody mary, DP was a bit Confused mainly- nice for 341 Calories -but I would just save the vodka and drink it with a tonic next time, but add more chilli's. It was a Star Star Star out of 5! I do like an experiment though- saves getting bored from the same old diet food & I love cooking.

Managed to get through yesterday and stay within daily target, which I was a little worried about & so far so good today. Carrot & celery sticks have been my friend today. The 1 stone target is in my sights. Have a good rest of the day everyone.

Lotsawobblybits · 19/01/2017 14:30

Narcs- Out of interest just found an old slimming world book from Jan 2012 and I was 2.5 stone lighter than I was at Christmas 2016 before my current purge. Grrrrr........why do I do it to myself! rather than YoYo I just tend to Yo...... bigger. This is the last time.

10stonestolose · 19/01/2017 15:33

Hi Narc...I'm with you on the yo-yo lark! 20 years ago I went from 9st 10lbs up to 14st 5lbs, lost it all, then have put it back on plus more each time and lost it countless times. It's infuriating isn't it?! And they reckon yo-yoing is more dangerous for your health than just staying obese.

Well this is the year we won't lose it and put it all back on and we won't have that all or nothing mentality. This is the year that we keep going, however many slip ups we have, until it's all off and then we'll bloody we'll keep it off!

THIS IS THE LAST YEAR WE WILL BE OBESE. PERIOD.

10stonestolose · 19/01/2017 15:37

Wobbly, yes to the yo...bigger!! You're right we need to be Mo rather than Usain. Im gonna do the Mo-bot every time I feel like giving in...Haha...except we need to call it the yo-bot!

I have been thinking about my eating habits and hope that writing them down might help me see where the best changes for life can be made , there are a couple of glaringly obvious changes !
OK morning's before I set off for work , so 6-8 involves me drinking at least 6 cups of instant coffee with milk ( with the same number of cigarettes ).
8-1pm I eat nothing , may have a drink of water . Stop off at shop and buy lunch , so sandwhich , crisps , diet coke , usually also buy biscuits to share at work . I often buy another sandwhich which I will eat in the car or a net of babybels , again eat these in the car so no-one knows about these extra's .
1-5pm after lunch and some of the biscuits , eat nothing else or drink anything else .
5-10pm a few more coffee's , open the wine , more cigarettes , usually eat between 8-9pm , often a salad with a massive crusty bagette .
And repeat !
So I tend to binge eat midday , think I am confusing hunger and being thirsty , need to increase my good fluids , have bought a sports bottle to fill with water to keep with me in the morning and refill for the afternoon .
Will be giving up the wine for the 8 weeks , so that should make a difference too . Keep umming and aahing about breakfast , a meal I have never eaten unless on holiday and then it cannot be before 10am .
Sorry for epic post , just wondered if the rest of you had worked out your 'bad' times of the day , worst habits etc ?

Flibbertyjibbit · 19/01/2017 18:09

Please can I join you all? I started on Monday, weighed in at 19stone 10.

I've been low carbing since Monday, I aim to lose 9 stone as my goal weight is 10 stone. To keep track of portion sizes I am using my fitness pal to log everything I eat.

I'm getting married in 2018 so would really like to shift as much weight as possible.

10stonestolose · 19/01/2017 18:56

Frumpet...that's a fair old caffeine habit you have there. With all the coffees and Diet Coke, do you not feel your heart racing or feel anxious or headachy or suffer from insomnia? If I have 2 strong coffees I can really feel it, but maybe I'm sensitive to it? All your meals seem carb heavy too. These are definitely my biggest downfall, basically all sweets, bread and stodge at ANY time of the day, so I've had to cut them out altogether. The problem with them is that I get huge blood sugar dips, which then make me binge more. Your blood sugar diet, I assume, will get you eating low GI foods, so you won't get those dips and crave the carbs as much. So this sounds a good diet for you. Good luck with giving up the wine, it's difficult if you're used to drinking every night. You'll feel like a new woman in no time, esp if you ditch all the coffees for a healthy breakfast.

Hey welcome Flibberty! Your starting weight is exactly the same as mine. I reckon you could get the lot off in time for your wedding in 2018. Imagine how exciting the dress shopping will be! We'll be your virtual (very slim) bridesmaids.

Hah no I never feel jittery with the coffee , but I have just bog standard nescafe , so not sure it counts .If I wake in the night because of a bad dream , I will have a coffee and then go straight back to sleep ! I used to have a terrible diet coke habit aswell , but I only have one 2 or 3 times a week now as opposed to 4 or 5 a day Blush

Corneliasedet · 19/01/2017 19:17

It's really interesting that mostly we all seem to have yo yo'd. I've gone from 8 stone 12 to 12 stone, down to 10, up to 14 stone, down again and now back to 17 stone 10. It's scary to think how it ratchets up each to time. I'm trying out Paul McKenna's freedom from emotional eating. I've done one lot of his dvd sessions and it was the most relaxed I've felt in a very long time so I do wonder if it's actually going to be helpful! I couldn't walk today because of work so I'm aiming to see if my dusty and very unloved exercise bike still works tomorrow. The idea that may be we could be svelte by summer is a very lovely one. I had to buy those shorts to wear under dresses to stop my legs rubbing together last summer and, crikey, the shame!!

10stonestolose · 19/01/2017 19:20

You must be immune to caffeine then Frumpet. I must be really sensitive to coffee then; my heart races, I get a headache and then I can't sleep. But that is 2 strong black americanos, so probably 4 shots in all. So I tend to just have one and it makes me feel a bit euphoric, it's weird. As I'm low carbing, I sometimes do a bulletproof coffee, which is black filter coffee with butter and coconut oil. It fills me up and stops me craving if I'm in the house alone (another trigger time for me...also a bit of a secret eater)

OP posts:
10stonestolose · 19/01/2017 19:29

Hi Cornelia, yes it's weird how we end up bigger after each loss isn't it. I imagine it's because we've screwed our metabolisms up with all the binge/starve eating. This article seems to explain it quite well

www.intuitiveeating.com/content/warning-dieting-increases-your-risk-gaining-more-weight-update

Yes I think by the summer we should have lost about half what we need to lose. So normal clothes (size 16 at most I would have thought). Sounds nice doesn't it?!
